I'm probably going to get lynched for this, but this was my least favorite episode. The posturing in front of the camera, the stupid lines Esposito kept coming up with to draw attention, all of it made me cringe. The constant "I'm so clever" looks at the camera made me regret every scene that had the camera in it, which was just about all of them.
I know a lot of people are going to find this episode funny, but I didn't.
Not my favorite either. The camera work was making me nauseous and I didn't like all the posturing either. The whole Castle making faces behind the Captain was really inane. They did not do Richard Castle any justice. I did love John Heurtas singing at the end though.
You were definitely not the only one. Also, it's like we had more of Caskett before they were Caskett, you know. Really disliked both last week's and this week's episodes, and didn't like "Probable Cause" much either. Like it has been said before by some people who work there, including Stana, that it's like they're on a completely different show lately, and I feel that the writers are trying too hard to bring new viewers in and they forget the old viewers who have been there from the beginning. Please no more comic con episodes, no more documentary style episodes, just go back to what they used to be but now with Castle and Beckett as a couple. Is that so hard? Next week's episode, with the "meet the parents" dinner better be a helluva lot better than the past two episodes, at least.
I loved how everyone was mugging for the cameras. I loved how even Gates was affected! Too Funny! I found this murder much more satisfying. There were 3 red herrings usually there is only 2. The bassist was the ultimate murderer.Too Cool! I loved how the camera caught a candid caressing between the two lovers.
UGH! This was ALOT better! Rather than completely breaking up the team it really worked as a complete ensemble. It also kept the Caskett connection - all while giving us Fillion at his trademark funny best. The story flow was great - as opposed to choppy - even with the documentary style filming. So much fun in this one!
Stana's comment about being on a different show was not meant in a negative light. If I recall correctly they've been talking a lot about getting back to the fun of the early seasons and away from all the angst. I think they've done a great job in that department and I could see this ep, and the comic-con one, fitting right in the early seasons.
The whole point of their behavior was that people aren't themselves when you put them in front of a camera. One of the hardest things about making a documentary is getting the subjects to behave naturally while being filmed. I think they nailed it.
Gates trying to play it cool for the cameras was one of the best parts. You know if those cameras hadn't been there she would have busted their asses for watching that sex tape out in the open like that.
I can´t make up my mind? Did I like it? mmmhhhh.... there were good Parts but it ist my least favorite episode this far I must say. But it was not totally bad.
Oh, and re: Esposito, he was perfectly in character. He's always been overly concerned about his image. Think back to the stripper one and how he acted when the manager "dissed" him.
For me it was a filler episode but it was a good filler episode regardless. Episodes like these are tricky to pull off, if not I know a few philes might remember X-Cops. It makes sense that this episode got moved around to where it was to now because it was slightly non committal to if people knew or not that they were together and it added up to a few moments of the relationship and what not but it wasn't the center piece of it, is like others have said, how much people change when they're on camera. About if this is a different show now, I agree it is, but is not on a negative sense like some people think, Stana referred to it in a positive manner because the humor is lighter and they're going back to the basics of the show that included so much of this comedy. I liked Swan Song, but for me is just an OK episode and not the greatness that Probable Cause was or even Final Frontier. I don't understand the people that didn't like those, then again each fan has their likes and that's great. Can't wait for next weeks!
Once I got past my hatred of the handheld camera/documentary vibe, I enjoyed the episode for the most part. I wouldn't call it fantastic or anything, but I think some of the quiet moments were my favorite. Simple glances into the camera and everyone's attempts to look good for the filmmaker contributed subtle humor that I really enjoyed. So I don't think that this is going to be praised as an hour-long masterpiece, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
i liked it. thought it was hilarious. Espo was hilarious and so was Beckett, she hates the camera. the case was a really clever one, haven't gotten one like this in a while. and to top all that of, the ending. wow.
so-so episode, documentary style not really my thing, X-files did it better 12 years ago. One more thing: red charger as unmarked police car? Seriously!?
i think the fans have been spoiled.there have been some great episodes so far this season thats why when we get a average episode we are disapointed anyway thats my opinion.
It was silly, but OK; I thought the case was better than the other parts of the episode, especially showing Esposito singing. Yes I know he's trying to get a singing career, but .... not on 'Castle', please.
I did like the film crew saving Caskett's bacon; found Castle's mugging and acting out over the top for the character, a bit. Still, it's better than any episode that tries to make us think they will break up.
As usual an excellent production by Andrew W. Marlowe & Company. Everyone acts a bit squirrely when thrust in front of a live camera unexpectedly. Hell, we act squirrely even without a camera on occasion, just because. I like that we get to see ALL the facets of these characters, and get to watch them grow, change or reveal unknown qualities and/or quirks to their personalities. It's the human condition played out in front of us each week as seen through the minds and hearts of the writers, and I for one am loving every moment. Keep up the good works.
It was awkwardly funny. Did you notice how the teams changed and in this episode, Ryan sticked more to Beckett than to Castle? Oh, I was so sure that Gates is going to find out but well, you can't have everything. And how cute was the last scene where Stana locked the camera crew? Bottom line is, it wasn't the best episode but still it was a good one.
I agree that "Swan Song" isn´t among the best episodes, but I completely disagree about "Final Frontier" and especially about "Probable Cause"... When I first watched last week´s episode I didn´t like it very much, but ater watching a 2nd time I enjoyed it a lot more. And , IMO, "Probable Cause" is among the best of all seasons! But we all have the right to our opinions... But I believe when SK says it´s like a different show, she doesn´t say it in the same way you do... from what I read, she´s pleased with that:)
This episode is my least favorite of all castle serie, not because they din't prove the point of how people react on front of the camara.i like that even Gates was affected by ( very funny) & "The bassist was the ultimate murderer", I know that since he appear on stage & almost can't hold on the instrument (guitar bass). Also another great part when Kate's little closet trick on the camera crew at the end... I still VOTE "AWESOME" FOR THE SHOW BECAUSE I LOVE CASTLE. But pls I hope the rest of all episode for this season continue & get better & better like "Probable Cause " & "Final Frontier",I hope there are more intimate scene & explore this new stage & continue to explore new situations & is well known that the best among them two (Caskett) is that they are crazy about each other and that is what makes them unique.
You are so true, i think Stana says it´s like a diferente show because the relationship with Castle but she like it. i agree Swang Song is not the best but it was very performed and was really hilarious Final Frontier was amazing and Probable Cause is a really Castle´s episode 3XK is part of Castle history. This season is amazing and i´m so proud to be a Castle´s fan
You are not alone at all. This is one of my least favorite episodes. I didn't find it funny at all. This one was even worse than the one they did on The Mentalist once.
"More Caskett before there was Caskett". Agreed. They said this was going to be the honeymoon phase, but in my eyes it`s been a rather boring honeymoon. Glad the fun from season 1-3 is back though.
First, one has to realize it's only a TV show and not real life. I can't see real homicide detectives allowing a film crew to continually contaminate a crime scene or be let in on every detail. At first, it was really annoying and I was having bad Supernatural epi flashbacks. I have to say Esposito absolutely stole the show. Wow, def saw him in a new sexy light. Hammy is what Nathan Fillion does and it is always entertaining.
just watched the episode. Read some bad opinions here and there but i thought it was quite entertaining. Best COTW in a very long time. I don't like that kind of style of filming - makes me sick, but surprisingly it didn't bother me here. I'm shocked because I feared the worst, lol.
The execution of that "documentary style" wasn't very impressive. At the same time this gimmick provided some funny moments.
I can't believe people didn't care for this episode ( to put it mildly) this episode was a day in the life.and i thought it was done well.I don't understand why people consider it just the Castle and Beckett show, its more than that,it was certainly more that that before they hooked up,but now it seems all most people want is to see them becoming one,and to hell with everyone else. Yeah, sure people are happy they finally got together, but there is more to this show than just them....And of course i am not speaking of everyone feeling this way, yes,i know i'm going to get slammed for this!
For me....i felt like the actors were talking to me (to us) and not to the cameras....so i felt kind of special that everything they said was to me (to us).....if that makes any kind of sense, lol...☺...
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
cheesily excellent!
ReplyDeleteIt was sooo
Oh no that promo, are we kidding ourselves? no don't do this to us
ReplyDeleteLoved it. Probably the funniest episode since the Atlantic City ep.
ReplyDeleteI'm probably going to get lynched for this, but this was my least favorite episode. So. Much. FUN! Loved it!

ReplyDeleteHAHA Love it. Really funny!
ReplyDeleteI liked it.
ReplyDeleteGod, that episode was horrible and this one isn't that good either. I agree with everyone that thought Esposito was annoying and intense.
ReplyDeleteI can´t make up my mind? Did I like it? mmmhhhh.... there were good Parts but it ist my least favorite episode this far I must say. But it was not totally bad.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't aware so many people disliked the Atlantic City ep lol. It's one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised about the mixed reaction to this one though. Documentary-style episodes always seem to split the fans.
Oh, and re: Esposito, he was perfectly in character. He's always been overly concerned about his image. Think back to the stripper one and how he acted when the manager "dissed" him.

exactly, it was pretty good to see them act awkward and castle all fine with it hahahah. The camera wasnt so bad, but yea it kinda made me dazed too

ReplyDeleteIncredibly cheesy, incredibly fun. Ryan and Espo stole the show. Gates was hilarious. Lanie too. Can't wait for next week.

ReplyDeleteVoted great for the first time of this season. I liked the episode. Especially loved Esposito's singing.

I agree, the boys where so funny, but always compliment each other in front of the Cameras.Esposito and his tight shirt :-9
ReplyDeleteI liked how Castle wanted every one to see that Kate is a great Cop! That was nice.
Not my favorite Episode but better then I expected.
This episode is my least favorite of all castle serie, not because they din't prove the point of how people react on front of the camara.i like that even Gates was affected by ( very funny) & "The bassist was the ultimate murderer", I know that since he appear on stage & almost can't hold on the instrument (guitar bass). ReplyDeleteCastle wanting everybody to see how extraordinary Beckett is was so sweet.
ReplyDeleteFor this episode, this would be counted as unpopular opinion, but I love it, even more than Murder, He wrote or Final Frontier
ReplyDeleteYou are so true, i think Stana says it´s like a diferente show because the relationship with Castle but she like it. i agree Swang Song is not the best but it was very performed and was really hilarious Final Frontier was amazing and Probable Cause is a really Castle´s episode 3XK is part of Castle history. ReplyDeleteOh wow, I'm surprised that some people disliked it. I really loved it! Everyone freaking out about the cameras, Esposito singing. It was great!
ReplyDelete..WOOW...very funny episode and esposito singing cool pitch with groovy mode
ReplyDeleteYou are not alone at all. This is one of my least favorite episodes. I didn't find it funny at all. This one was even worse than the one they did on The Mentalist once.
ReplyDeleteit was ok but not the best of the yr. story was all muddled in the hamming for the camera. Hard to follow.
ReplyDeleteThat is for sure! Gates was totally different sort of the way she was in Secret's Safe with Me.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you. More Caskett before there was Caskett. It's a different show, not the one that attracted me to the show in the first place.
ReplyDeleteSad that you don't feel comfortable posting contrary opinions.
ReplyDeleteThat's true, but it isn't necessarily good television.
ReplyDelete"More Caskett before there was Caskett". Agreed. They said this was going to be the honeymoon phase, but in my eyes it`s been a rather boring honeymoon. Glad the fun from season 1-3 is back though.
ReplyDeleteEspecially when she stuck her tongue at them.
ReplyDeleteCastle fans are batshit crazy when someone dislikes anything about the show. :P

ReplyDeleteIt wasn't the best of episodes but it was ok, probably didn't like it much because it was a documnetary style ep, hate when shows do a documnetary ep.
ReplyDeleteFor me....i felt like the actors were talking to me (to us) and not to the cameras....so i felt kind of special that everything they said was to me (to us).....if that makes any kind of sense, lol...☺...
ReplyDeleteI don't know what some people were expecting, that they'd be holding hands 24/7? I love the amount of romance we have on the show. It's just right.
ReplyDelete
