Thanks to TVMONKEY for the heads up.

Brendan Fraser has departed TNT’s drama pilot Legends. The Mummy star was set to make his series debut with the project, developed by Howard Gordon, Jeffrey Nachmanoff and Mark Bomback from the novel by Robert Littell. He was to play the lead, Martin Odum, a deep-cover operative who has an uncanny ability to transform himself into a different person for each job. The parting of the ways happened after the actor and showrunner Gordon did not see eye to eye on the character and couldn’t bridge their creative differences. The role will now be recast.

  1. I think this is good news. Fraser was tolerable when he was younger but the older he gets the creepier he seems.

  2. Yeah, it's hard to really recapture the charm he had in Encino Man. :)

I'm kidding. I still like him.

  5. Those were fun popcorn movies. However, I always believed that anyone could have played Fraser's role just as well as he did.

  6. Brendan Fraser has always been extremely hit and miss with me honestly.

I quite enjoyed him in School Ties and Gods and Monsters when he was younger as far as real drama performances go.... and that's about it. Some of his more comedic roles like Blast from the Past were fun. The light adventure roles like Inkheart and the Mummy etc have been fun too, but hardly challenging or real heavy lifting as far as drama goes. He seems stuck in goofball-mode and I have not liked him in the majority of his roles over the recent years.. His role on SCRUBS was quite fun, but George of The Jungle and his other projects.... not so much.

This role seemed wrong for him IMO so I'm not sad to see him go despite having some minor interest in seeing him try something different, more adult and more dramatic.
