There is some behind-the-scenes drama on AMC‘s Hell On Wheels. The Western drama on Monday was given a 10-episode third-season renewal, but it was picked up without its creators/executive producers Joe and Tony Gayton, who left their day-to-day duties on the show with a possibility to consult when their contract was not renewed. At the time, AMC said John Shiban would continue as executive producer/showrunner. Now I hear that veteran showrunner Shiban has informed the network that he won’t be coming back after two years on the show. As a result, I hear the show’s pickup has been put on hold until a new showrunner is found.

Ouch
ReplyDeleteI feel like AMC always have drama with their dramas! Both Mad Men and Breaking Bad had contract/no of episodes issues.
ReplyDeleteYeah that is a severe blow to the series... at least for now.
ReplyDeleteI suppose it's possible the previous tandem could have their contract wishes met and resume a larger role - If their contract issues were even about money or time etc... They could just have wanted to do something else.
Hopefully it all works out soon since I would think if too much time is lost finding a new showrunner they may just cancel the series! :(
Indeed.
ReplyDeleteOnce is bad circumstances, twice could be a coincidenceI guess, but three times is a definitive pattern to me
And I just remembered the Walking Dead/Frank Darabont blow up as well.Definitely issues over there.
ReplyDeleteGuess it's an AMC thing...
ReplyDeleteI tend to think that "Executive Meddling" it's a bad thing, because most times it is. But I'm not sure about AMC. Sure, they are soulless automata, but they might have found the formula to highest profit/highest quality balance ratio.
ReplyDeleteSure, Darabont's ideas for season 2 of TWD sounded awesome, but it could have been a extravaganza clusterfrek as well
Mad Men, Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead and now this... Honestly, AMC does not know how to handle it's shows...
