KIDDING! Sorry, I just wanted to get that out of the way. Most of tonight's episode was listened to rather than watched. Shaky cameras have always made me lose interest in a show if the effect is used for more than a few seconds. Add that to the trap a lot of these shows fall into, having characters we’ve loved for years introduce themselves and others as if we were new to the show again but in a less organic way than the original, and you’ve got an episode that I would typically sleep thru on the DVD. Except, and here’s the difference between most of them, this episode isn’t really that different of an episode of the show. Sure we lacked Martha and Alexis, but we’ve missed them in the past and it didn’t suck. You see there was still the ever looming threat Capt. Gates could find out about their relationship and Ryan and Espo still had their carguments (to borrow a phrase from the Hawaii 5-O lexicon). Take out the cameras and this episode could have been any other episode; I mean that in a good way. So while this episode is not my favorite, it played well. Well played Castle team, well played.
That doesn’t mean I want more of these episodes so TV execs if you read this take note NO MORE DOCUMENTARY/FOUND FOOTAGE EPISODES!!! But this one didn’t suck and was actually a pleasant surprise. And as one last note, I loved that the film team hid the footage of Beckett and Castle together from Gates and that Beckett locked one of the cameramen in a janitor's closet.

the title of this episode is wrong, This is a Swan Song review Not After Hours.
ReplyDeleteThis review is for Swan Song, not After Hours. After Hours is next week.
ReplyDeleteAlright! Changed.
ReplyDeleteAlright! Changed. Neither is what I would have called this episode so...
ReplyDeleteCheck your episodes..11/12 = Swan Song
ReplyDeletePS: Your dog is adorable!
ReplyDeleteI get the dislike of the handheld camera vibe, as I don't like it either. But if you can power through some of it, I think you'd enjoy it a bit more. Some of the looks into the camera and portions without dialogue were what made the episode for me. It was cheesy, but I loved it.
ReplyDeletea source at ABC and works on Castle reveled that season 6 of castle if approved.
ReplyDeleteWill be a max 15 episode due to the face stana katic has been offered a big movie role on a feature film (unknown title) which will then be made into a TV series like twilight and she will be the lead.
all we now at this point is that it will be produced by CBS to become the next front runner for ncis.
The worst episode of Castle ever! We ever gonna get a good episode that gives us the satisfaction that ALWAYS set us up for? I'm so disappointed .. :0/
ReplyDeleteCan you stop trolling with this nonsense everywhere? I've seen it posted on 3 different sites, without a verifiable source being named. Plus no station would ever plan that far ahead without knowing whether the Movie would be a hit or not, and then the tv-series would take some more time to plan as well.
ReplyDeleteThis is really a pretty pathetic way to seek attention as a whole, please go troll somewhere else.
Great review, thx.
ReplyDeleteIf your "source" is well informed or not, only time will tell...
ReplyDeleteAnyway, even loving the show, I know it won´t last forever, and it´s normal that the actors want to do different things. The only thing I hope is that, when they decide that Castle will end, they do it a proper way, like tying all the knots and giving an amazing final to an amazing show!!
I still remember how furious I was a few years ago, when a show I liked so much - "Crossing Jordan" - was cancelled with so much to tell:(
Loved that show too, I really hope Castle gets the ending they deserve and doesn't do themselves in. I'm loving this season so far even though last night wasnt a top episode for me I still enjoyed the relationships stuff between the team and of course Caskett. I think the little slip where he tucked her hair was so cute.
ReplyDeleteAm I the only person who loved this ep ???
ReplyDeleteNope I liked the episode quite a bit, but not loved it. I did like the nice focus on the tragicness of the victim, it was nice veering off the overly comic cases, and actually play some respects on the victim and the circumstances behind the murder.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, I don't like documentary-style episodes, so it will never be a favorite episode of mine. It\s still not as bad as the Limey or Heartbreak Hotel from last year ofc.
Best moment for me: Beckett and Castle's stolen moment
Ranking up there: Them getting called into Gates office looking like 2 kids who are called into the principle's office for having been caught doing some naughty. It was rather hilarious.
I kinda disagree with you. I love this episode, even more than Final Frontier. I love it when they try something new, and at least for me, it works! My cloudy day is finally brightened up, and boy did I need it. And this may be an unpopular opinion, but I think this is one of the best episodes of Castle
ReplyDeleteThank you. His name is Dimitri
ReplyDelete'Castle' just did six episodes in a row that were very satisfying IMHO, so it's really hard to keep such a streak alive. That being said, this epi wasn't bad, I enjoyed the story and enjoyed them trying to ham it up (except Castle, he prob. did it too much). It'll be interesting, November sweeps is upon us and it'll be interesting if they can top the first 6 this season.
ReplyDeletevery difficult to believe any TV show approves next season this early and during November sweeps. We all wish for Stana to have great success after Castle, but I'm not buying this story...
ReplyDeleteI hated the shaky camera- pictures! but other than that (to my surprise) I loved this episode. It was really fun, when everyone except for Beckett wanted to be on camera so badly. especially Lanie and Castle cracked me up. Castle narrating and explaining everything, and Lanie calling Caskett down to the morgue just to be on camera :D
ReplyDeletehowever the unsteady pictures didn't really make the whole episode too much fun to (re)watch.
