What was going on with the blink and you miss it Thea appearance in this promo? They make it look like she's spying on Oliver at his Arrow HQ but that could be some creative editing at work.
No, she was spying on Laurel and Tommy or that's at least my thoughts after reading the synopsis for the episode as it mentions Tommy asking Thea for advice but that it becomes awkward when she realizes the advice is about Laurel.
Why would she spy on them? Their being together isn't really a secret. Besides, Thea looks like she's in a basement or at some industrial complex and why would Tommy and Laurel be someplace like that together?
According to the show runners, Thea becomes "Speedy" - one of the Green Arrow's comic version sidekicks. It makes sense that she would be the first of his "canon" sidekicks to discover his secret - she's very much his protege in the comics.
Laurel's superhero alter ego, Black Canary, is following very closely to the source material in that she and Oliver had a very complex relationship fraught by hits, misses, ups and downs with more than a twinge of ships passing in the night.
In the comics Black Canary is a more skilled tactician than the Green Arrow and is generally counted with the greats - Batman and Superman, notably. That said, Green Arrow is more "bad ass". One on one, she could probably take Oliver - except that he'd have some just slightly left of "sportsmanlike" trick up his sleeve - the Green Arrow is *all* about the end justifying the means while the Black Canary is more likely to draw a firm moral line.
I'm aware that, according to the producers, someone besides Diggle is supposed to find out Oliver's secret and I figured it would be Thea. I just didn't expect it to happen so quickly. That being said, I'd be okay if she finds out right away. It would give her character more to do.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
