According to The Hollywood Reporter, The CW and actress Reese Witherspoon are developing a modern reimagining of Charles Dickens' classic novel "The Great Expectations."

Titled Expectations, the series follows revolves around a small-town girl with big dreams of making it in the city who is quickly disillusioned by the harsh reality of living in San Francisco -- that is until her fortunes unexpectedly turn thanks to an anonymous benefactor.

  1. I'd give good odds this won't make it to the pilot stage. Just a hunch.

  2. Reese Witherspoon is a big name for the CW.

  3. Sounds good. Anything based on Dickens' books has to be half-decent.
Then I always like to root for the underdog, and the CW is a Chihuahua amongst the Dobermanns.:)

  4. Nothing wrong with Dickens and the original story , but when I read the phrase 'modern reimagining,' I am afraid my expectations for the show sink considerably... and centrering on a 'small town girl' and they sink even lower.

  5. Even with Reese Witherspoon, I'm not sure I should expect anything much from this.

  6. She might only be involved as a producer or sth else... I don't really see her acting on the CW:

  7. This sounds like a good idea!
