Aw, I love that Garth took over. That's sweet.
ReplyDeleteWhat's Dean complaining about. It's not like he'd want to be Hunter Librarian Central if he had been around the past year. Sam, maybe, but Dean???
ReplyDeleteYeah, Dean seems whiny so far this season...
ReplyDeleteI kinda like how Sam's like "Just get over it." lol
I don't think he wanted the job, I guess he just thinks that Bobby is irreplaceable. Sometimes it hurts a little to know that someone took over the spot of a loved one.
ReplyDeleteNot sure its just being whiny^^; Going from Bobby to Garth...... (not sure if they're talking about being the knowledge guy and/or the phone guy)...that's a big step in the wrong direction. Doesn't sound like it's ''honoring Bobby's memory'' or whatever^^; if it wasme not sure I would love to see that the person who I love and who was doing a great job got 'remplace' by someone who can't stay alive on his own
ReplyDeleteYou said it a lot better than I did. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteSince Garth is still alive without the guys help, guess he is doing OK on his own. He has been on his own for many years. Hard to find someone you think is unqualified filling Bobby's shoes.
ReplyDelete;P Don,t get me wrong, I love Garth, i'm taking about Dean's POV.
ReplyDeleteI know Bobby job had to be done, I've been wondering last year and this summer too who is going to help the hunters community now, someone has to. Just think that there's more competant people out there
Oh, you're probably right. I think I'm reacting to the tone used by the person who wrote the blurb combined with Dean's behavior/attitude so far this season. Plus, at this stage, with no spoilers in my mind, I would bet a nickel that Dean's biggest issue is Garth.
ReplyDeleteExactly. This I can understand Dean being upset about.
ReplyDeleteDean's been too on Sam's case, I agree. It's the one flaw to me, about Dean's story this year- the rest I love. But he's annoying me with his 'you have to hunt' thing. Like Sam has no choice. And this is coming from a person who loves his character, a lot.
ReplyDeleteIts times like these I really sympathize with Sam when it comes to Dean having his 'moments'. Other time was at the beginning of Season 3 when Sam was trying to find a way out of the deal and Dean was being 'mean' as I described it at the time. I got so excited when Sam did his "I want you to be my brother again" speech in Fresh Blood because I wanted Dean to be more his normal self too.
If Dean wants it done his way then he should do it himself, which we all know he won't. He complains but won't actually do anything. He just wants to be in control of everything.
ReplyDeleteAs always, I'm not sure how I feel about Garth coming back... but the animosity about Sam not coming after Dean and dropping the ball on Kevin and the hunt doesn't seem to be going away anytime soon. That "someone needed to do it" claim is going to haunt Sam for a while, which is really going to annoy me. Please don't beat it into the ground, writers. We get it, and the brothers work better when they're not taking serious shots at each other all the time.
ReplyDeleteReturn of Garth? Dear god, no thanks. He seriously gets on my nerves. ._.
ReplyDeleteNot really seeing why Dean would be pissed at Garth. Someone had to take over as hunter support central from Bobby.
ReplyDeleteDean is coming off as odd to me this season. Its like nothing is good enough for him. He thinks everyone is letting him down.
And don't get me started on the ludicrous decision to give Sam a character transplant and have him a) not look for Dean and b) not even seem that happy that he is back. This poor and unsympathetic characterisation is infecting the whole show. It is causing the dynamic between them to feel cold, and 'off' somehow. There doesn't feel to me to be the slightest vestige there of the solid bond that has connected Dean and Sam through bad times and good since the Pilot. Its just not coming across.
JC has started this season with a huge misjudgement IMO. I just hope he can get things back on track.
Okay...But is everyone for getting the man has spent a year in purgatory!! I be mad if someone wouldnt look for me. Dean been a one man army for a while. He needs his brother so he can feel a bondness.
ReplyDeleteI understand he's mad, but it doesn't mean he should constantly bring it up. It bugs him, he should ask Sam for more reason, and get past it instead of lingering cause 'nagging' on Sam, for lack of a better term, isn't going to make Sam want to stay more.
ReplyDeleteOkay...read enough. People your missing the whole point why hes pissed at Sam and why he doesn't think Garth would be a good "hunter support central" Looking at Dean's POV. First Garth...really??? come on. I love Garth. But his character really hast been centralized to much to give anyone any faith that he can do it justice. Now I'm willing to say Dean is whining about it. But hell ...really....? idjits? (kidding)...Do you really think he can pull out a wealth of info or play FBI. Now that said, if they develop his character and not make him a once in the while thing...great. Then there is all kinds of good story lines that they could do with his Barney-five character. But if its just the one time. Nah.
ReplyDeleteNow Sam...Plz...People Dean, just spent a whole year in purgatory Fighting a one man army and then having to take a Vamp as a war buddy to survive. Come on now. He has every right to feel as though Sam didn't care enough about him to even look. Not once. As I said to another poster. Hes looking for the brother bond he had before. One that cared and fought beside him. I see this pushing him over to the vamp war buddy to get that buddy/brother feeling back. You know the one I have your back one. Sam should be a shame of himself. Its not like he was sent to hell or jump in the pit. He just simply vanished. He feels that Sam ran with the opportunity to say hell with everything. No one to answer for it ...so why the hell not.So to me Dean as every right to be whiny or in my eyes pissed.
Lets give the season a chance. Its going to take time to build a story off it. Its only the 3 episode. We have 20 more to go to see where they are taking this! If your supernatural fan you know there is lulls in the story lines, then the ones you keep on the edge.
Okay off my soap box.
Peace
Aww. Yeah, I love Garth, I hope they don't kill him off in this episode!
ReplyDeleteGeordiegirl, you explained it perfectly!! TY!
ReplyDeleteWell Dean has been in a war zone for 12 months where is only support has been a vampire and a angel of dubious mental state fighting for his life on a daily basis (as well as getting a tan it seems)
ReplyDeleteIf he hasn't gotten a serious need to control his surroundings out of that then he is more screwed up than in season 7. And also during that period what was his response to anything that he didn't control - kill it or beat it to a pulp until it does as it is told. So I'm thinking whining is annoying and we wish he could get over it but probably better than the alternative we could be seeing.
As for Garth, thinking that Dean maybe annoyed that Bobby was replaced by someone he deems is isn't fit to lick Bobby boots while Sam is going to do the 'see everyone was okay without me' dance yet again. But think the annoying little man with his sock puppet and hot tub fetish is going to actually do more about knocking some perspective into both boys heads.
Yeah, but didn't Dean kind've...enjoy that? It seemed like he had to revert a bit to a primal state (lol a bit, it was probably much more than a bit) and I do understand that, but both of them have been stuck in Hell...from a relative point of view it shouldn't be that big of a deal...The lore on this show has always been deep and well-done, so when they start sort've falling into other dimensions, it's sort've like "well, Sam or Dean died again today... Can't wait to see how they get out of the ________ world." It almost becomes similar to "monster of the week" to me in a sense.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm thinking there's more to it.
ReplyDeleteOr I'm hoping there is... if Dean's being grumpy for no apparent reason, it's kinda just beating a dead horse. It just feels like we've had this same conversation like 10000 times since around season 5. I was sort've hoping for a more "hell yeah I'm back, let's kill shit...Oh you don't hunt again? That's weird. Hey look, a damsel in distress" sort of situation...Angst-less and fun/return to simpler times. BUT I am intrigued with the storyline that's going on. It just feels like they're writing Dean to be a little overdone...
Yeah, in episode 2 where he beat that prisoner up while flashbacks showed him systematically killing something was pretty awesome, and I sort've prefer that way for Dean to expel his animosity...not the other way, it's not as exciting or well done.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree. But let's endure it, hopefully we only have to endure Garth for one episode this season.
ReplyDeleteBobby's duties *snort* as if Garth would be qualified.
Sorry, Mr. Carver but you were supposed to right the wrongs of the past 2 seasons, not repeat them.
Garth. *snort*
Yes I agree that was a good scene. But if that was all we got we'd quickly descend in to criminal minds territory as Dean starts killing spree.
ReplyDeleteAlso have to admit even though the whining can be grating but I am kind interested that he seems to only be able to act one step up from petulant child or full on killing machine with everyone except when he was talking to Benny or the Angel talked about Cas.
We are only on episode 3 - we have to see it all play out.
Bobby thought enough of Garth to send him to help Dean.
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree.
ReplyDeletecompetent maybe willing? well Garth seems to be the only one who stepped up to the plate? Who knows maybe he's really good at it or will be once he has more years of experience under his belt like Bobby? I'm sure Bobby wasn't the perfect hunter right from the start?
ReplyDeleteGarth is back:) And even though I'm not okay with anyone taking over Bobby's duties, at least it's not a complete stranger.
ReplyDeleteI think Dean is supposed to be seen like that at the moment because so far all we're getting his perception of things that have transpired
ReplyDeleteI think it has to do more with his struggling to adjust back to his old life and perhaps his trying to hard to do so when he really craves what he had in Purgatory the 'pureness' of it. Purgatory in a sence was an easier exsistance for Dean because there essentially were no rules, everything was black and white with none of those pesky shades of grey and Dean doesnt do well with shades of grey.
ReplyDeleteHopefully Garth can prove Dean and all the doubters wrong, I hope he does a good job.
ReplyDeleteBobby wasn't exactly the ace of spades when he started the job.
ReplyDeleteI hope so! If he's in more than one episode.... Yikes.
ReplyDeleteI doubt he'd be qualified enough to take over Bobby's work. He, well, I don't know if he's the absolute worst ever, but he's definitely not the best hunter out there.
Hm. Like Garth. Like the concept. (hate that anyone would possibly think they could replace Bobby, but that's mostly because I hate that Bobby's gone) Good ol' fashioned avenging ghost. Sounds like this might be a good episode. I'm looking forward to it.
ReplyDeleteI agree and disagree with aspects here. I think the season's started pretty strong, with interesting concepts thrown in and some really interesting scenes. Some of it has been pretty dang awesome. That's the part I disagree with you on.
ReplyDeleteThe part I agree with you on is how Sam's being handled this year. I do think he was very happy to see his brother, but seriously.. not even /looking/ for Dean???? That's VERY ooc, and I'm hoping that it's a twist on the 'perception' being key this season thin, and that we just haven't seen enough to piece it together. IE, I'm hoping he did look for Dean and just didn't tell him because of something or another. I dont' buy for a second Sam falling in love with someone and just abandoning /everything/ else, especially his brother, for some apple pie life. I know Sam wants normal, but seriously.. Sam wouldn't abandon Dean like that.
So long as his sock puppet doesn't make a comeback I will be good with him.
ReplyDeleteHey... Give Garth some credit! He has done just fine this whole time Sam and Dean were MIA. He's got guts and determination to be a good hunter. Give him a break, Garth is just getting started! I was very excited to see the return of Garth! Bobby had enough confidence to send him to help Dean. I can't believe the crappy attitude about this character! How shallow can you guys get?
ReplyDeleteAgree and I said the same thing about Bobby sending him to help Dean. I like Garth and after watching the sock puppet a few times, even came to enjoy that also...;)
ReplyDelete..GARTH..had bobby job pick up the phones fantastic this episode will be so fun to watch..yess garth deserve some appreciation and sam and dean must take a cold shower and follow the flow
ReplyDeleteIA with all you said. As long as Garth taking over manning the phones/being hunter central for Bobby isn't another escuse for Dean to get on Sam's case again, I'm fine with Garth.
ReplyDeleteThe writers have already windexed Dean's brain of the year he spent living normal with Lisa and Ben, also not hunting or saving lives. This is not a criticism of Dean, it's a major criticism of JC and the writing staff.
Good, God. The village idiot is back. Well, we now know that Sam and Dean are at the top of the food chain as hunters. With Garth at the helm for the last year, all other hunters are now dead. Not happy one bit to see Garth again. Come on, Carver. Get rid of those awful characters SG brought on-board and make new and interesting ones. You've got a good start with Benny.
