This is terrible. Thats what happens when your'e loaded into the Friday night death slot. Hopefully it gets adjusted up in the finals, but im not looking forward to anything.
This flat out sucks. Nikita is a wonderful show and the actors work their asses off to give us an hour of action, romance (but not too mushy-gushy) and character development. It deserves a lot more viewers than it gets and it deserves more promotion, like, way more promotion. I believe I've seen exactly one video promotion the new season of Nikita. What did the other shows get? Five? Including posters, banners and what not. Nikita's promo was more like the network throwing a bone at us.
Man, this sucks hard. I'm trying to put it out there, to get my friends to watch but it doesn't seem to be working. It's such a good show I'm almost paralyzed with fear now that it will get cancelled midseason! :(
Doesn't help that it has the crappiest lead in, with America's Next Top Model.
ugh. How do we get this show the audience it deserves????
I definitely put it down to lack of promotion... CW threw themselves into promoting the new shows and I think Nikita was forgotten in the glut of other programming. Other returning shows - Supernatural, Hart of Dixie and Gossip Girl even had more promotion - and they had larger audiences at end of their previous seasons too so were in less need of promotion.
I hope CW give it a chance... and more promotion... as I thought it was excellent - the new storyline/dynamic is very cool and has a lot of potential.
Actually if the numbers don't change in the finals, Gossip Girl and Emily Owens had equal lead-in numbers as Nikita did. 90210, Hart of Dixie, and ANTM all scored a 0.6. All of them were also better than Nikita's numbers last year as the lead-in to Supernatural. In fact last year Nikita had better lead-in numbers than Supernatural did and it's lead-in was local programming. Nikita simply does not have a strong Nielsen fan base although it apparently has a large international fan base. I like Nikita and am saddened that more people don't watch it. It and Arrow are the best action-oriented shows on network TV and you know how I love a good action sequence. But its numbers aren't because of its lead-in. By year 3 a show should be able to stand on its own and Nikita obviously cannot. It was surprising it got renewed last year.
I do not think it will be canceled midseason though. This is the CW and there really isn't anything to replace it with unless they try some reality thing which usually doesn't work well for the CW or they can revamp The Selection and move it to a midseason premiere instead of summer. If Nikita stays at a 0.3 it should keep its full season order, especially if Emily Owens tanks and Beauty and the Beast keeps shedding viewers. Plus Nikita is one season away from syndication levels and is part of the Netflix package. I don't think you need to worry yet.
Wonder why it is being listed as a 0.4 in some places and a 0.3 in others. Should be interesting to see what the finals are. Hopefully it will be a 0.4, consistent with the end of last year.
Was it just me or was the promotion for the series on the low end? I was startled when I finally saw a promo. Would have missed it if I hadn't had the timer still set from last season. I watched on the DVR last night. Next week it'll be up against Grimm AND Fringe. I hope the DVR numbers help it out.
I like Emily Owens too, so the fact it's not doing well and likely to be cancelled makes me sad. As for Nikita, you have a point about the midseason thing; but I have doubts about a season 4. I have to admit that I don't understand ratings scores at all, and while a third season of a show should have a built in audience I feel like pairing Nikita with ANTM is a terrible move. The lead-in may not be a reason for the decline, but it's not helping, IMO. I sincerely doubt that anyone has these two shows on their schedule for appt TV (though who, besides people without cable/DVR capabilities like me, even has appt TV anymore...). Also having Nikita in the 9pm slot instead of 8pm might have something to do with declining numbers. I don't know, I'm just guessing. I'm hopeful DVR and online views bring the rating higher. I just want this show to be successful because it's not the typical love-triangle, angsty, soapy crap that is on the CW otherwise. SPN, Arrow, and Nikita are shows deserving of larger audiences and I feel like the reason they don't have it is the network they are on. High action indeed! Also - it might help if the CW did ANYTHING to promote Nikita. A 5-second "sexy" image of a character does not count, nor sell me on watching a show. Man. This network...
WHAT?! One of my favourite shows, I don't understand why it got such a low rating. I knew it would happen, they've used less than par promos, and it's competing on Friday nights. I live in England and I'm gonna watch it online tonight. I will be upset if it is really good, as I have heard it is.
Just started watching Nikita, and really like the versatility. So sad to hear that it's on the edge of being canceled.. it's makes me want to not watch the new shows anymore..
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
That really sucks. If this leads to a cancellation, hopefully they're prepared for it and are able to write a proper ending.
ReplyDelete:( Crappy news for one of the better CW shows imo.. and it's gonna get tougher when Fringe returns.. I hope the dvr numbers help out some

ReplyDeleteit was a great episode, but has had almost no promotion and aired on a random day in october so i am not surprised.
ReplyDeleteI like Nikita. If they end up canceling it though, then I'll wish they'd kept the Secret Circle instead.
