The Green Bay Packers at the Houston Texans on Sunday Night Football kept NBC in the overnight winner’s circle with an estimated 12.8 rating/20 share for the primetime portion from 8:30-11 p.m. And that, of course, finished a solid first in each half-hour. Coverage of the game in the 11 p.m. half-hour scored a 10.6/19. As a reminder, results for any live sporting event are always estimated.
Earlier in the evening on NBC was pre-game Football Night in America at a 1.6/ 3 at 7 p.m. (#4), a 4.3/ 7 at 7:30 p.m. (#3) and a dominant 8.3/13 at 8 p.m.
Fox also traveled the sports route, but Game 1 of The National League Baseball Championship Series (in place of the regularly scheduled animated comedies) paled in comparison with an approximate 4.6/ 7 from 8:30-11 p.m. The Baseball Pre-Game scored a 5.3/ 9 at 8 p.m. (#4). Earlier in the evening on Fox was a football overrun at a very dominant 12.2/21 in the 7 p.m. half-hour, followed by post-game The OT at a 7.7/13 (#2) at 7:30 p.m.
Over at CBS, it was business as usual care of the regularly scheduled combination of granddaddy 60 Minutes (#2: 9.1/15), which will never go off the air, The Amazing Race (#3: 6.7/10), older-skewing The Good Wife (#2: 7.0/10) and relocated The Mentalist (#2: 7.6/12), which built from The Good Wife by nine percent. Year-to-year, The Mentalist also increased from former occupant CSI: Miami (6.7/11 on 10/16/11) by 13 percent.
ABC, meanwhile, had more mixed news on this third Sunday of the new TV season with its line-up of veteran America’s Funniest Home Videos (#3: 3.7/ 6), sophomore Once Upon a Time (#3: 6.4/10), relocated Revenge (#3: 5.9/ 9) and week three of 666 Park Avenue (#4: 3.7/ 6). Although 666 Park Avenue did level off from one week earlier, comparably it was still down by 21 percent from failed year-ago occupant Pan Am (4.7/ 8 on 10/16/11). Three week overnight track for 666 Park Avenue: 5.3/ 9 – 3.7/ 6 – 3.7/ 6).
Revenge, meanwhile, remained close to year-ago overnight levels from former occupant Desperate Housewives (6.2/ 9 on 10/16/11), and demo friendly Once Upon a Time built from the 7:30 p.m. portion of America’s Funniest Home Videos (4.2/ 7) by a considerable 52 percent. Considering Desperate Housewives was at record low ratings last season, Revenge is a bit of a disappointment on Sunday.

So happy for OUAT!
ReplyDeleteAnd fuck, 666 Park Avenue. I have a really bad feeling it's going to be cancelled pretty soon.
That proves it, Football does NOT hurt Once Upon a Time! What should the 18-49 demo be? I find Marc Berman's posts to be quite confusing. Can't wait to see the #'s for The Walking Dead!
ReplyDeletethis time Football didn't hurt any shows.
ReplyDeleteI think it's partially to blame on the name. Many people might not want to watch (out of religious faith, superstition, etc) a show with 666 on it's title.
ReplyDeleteI believe the same happened with Good Christian Belles, which was supposed to be Good Christian Bitches and the more conservative folks didn't like it. I don't know if the show was consistently good, but I had read an article about how biased people were toward the show because of it's title.
I'm glad that OUaT is one of the winners.
ReplyDeleteps.: I had never noticed how weird sundays are on ABC: OUAT, The Good Wife and then 666 Park Avenue? Very different target audiences IMO.
The Good Wife is on CBS. Revenge is on ABC In that slot...so the night is female, melodrama-centric.
ReplyDeleteHope the rating for Walking Dead is good.
ReplyDeleteAnd that's what happen when I sleep less than 6 hours. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for pointin that out. But is 666 Park Avenue "female, melodrama-centric"? (Asking, because it seemed so dark). Well, focusing on women makes sense, since men are watching sports on sundays...
I only watched the pilot, so I can't comment past that...but yeah, I would classify it. The pilot at least didn't fulfill it's hype of being dark or scary. It's very domestic, female heroine, lots of neighbor/small isolated community drama. But that's just me and like I said I only watched the pilot.
ReplyDeleteWhy AMC's ratings ( or another cable ratings) are never on this sheet?
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised football fan and OUAT fan are probably not often found in the same person. So the viewers of Once watch because they are not normally interested in football. I'm sure there are some people who watch Once that do, but not a lot, I'd imagine.
ReplyDeleteYou'd think horror fans wouldn't care about that.
ReplyDeleteI found it dark enough, but then again, I don't like things too scary. Not a fan of horror really, yet I like the show because of its creepiness and mystery.
ReplyDeleteOne cannot underestimate people's superstitions, because they are not rational. But yeah, one would expect horror fans to be used to the whole "devil" thing.
ReplyDeleteIf i'm correct, the obtainment of ratings from networks and cable networks are different hence no cable ratings ever posted here in this particular posts
ReplyDeleteOh, since I don't like the genre I didn't watch it, but I had no idea the woman was the lead. I though it was either her husband or Locke. Makes sense now.
ReplyDeleteWhy does he have to compare with last year? Pan Am failed too so It's better to keep 666 Park Avenue independent of that reading. At least it sort of stabilized. Just to add, assuming it does get cancelled (which I hope it won't) I don't think Red Widow(the show people insist will take over that slot assuming 666PA gets cancelled for it would be a good companion to Revenge) will rate as well because I don't think people would want to pick up on another new show. I think ABC should just build up Sundays as is just so ratings can stabilize and so they can have a solid 10pm Sunday timeslot
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't say Revenge is a disappointment AT ALL. If it's keeping steady with its Season 1 ratings and holding up in the mid-high 2's, then that is excellent news for ABC. It's very rare a show can hold its season 1 numbers, especially a show like Revenge. So, saying it's a "bit of a disappointment" is completely false news. It's not surprising given how great a show Revenge is though and how awesome this season is starting off already.
ReplyDeleteWell they post The CW's... But thanks! I just wanted to see how the Walking Dead did!
ReplyDeleteThat's because CW is one of the regular stations, like ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC. AMC is cable and completely different.
ReplyDeleteDespite the fall of OUAT, I'm glad. Moreover, Revenge progresses! But I'm really sad about 666 Park Avenue, because this series will be canceled and it is my new favorite!
ReplyDeleteI always thought CW was cable -_- woow thanks!
ReplyDeleteWow, I'm sad for 666 Park Avenue. I now thing they will cancel it and replace it by RED WIDOW, maybe from January 2013 -.-
ReplyDeleteAgreed and it moved nights as well so it is doing quite well all things considering.
ReplyDeleteYeah because the CW is a network, in anycase I read that the Walking Dead premiere broke records
