  3. i agree and the didn't even get a million viewers for there season premiere!

  4. WHY DO PEOPLE NOT WATCH NIKITA!!!??? i honestly dont understand! Arrow is doing extremely well and nikita is of the same caliber if not better!

  5. I feel the same. I don't understand. There's action and romance, what more would anyone want? :(

  6. the action scenes are better than any other show, it has comedy, drama and romance too not to mention amazing writers! I honestly think they need to advertise it me (we got ONE trailer in the lead up and some very horribly done promo shots - one of a wall sticks out in my mind) i really think they shouldve paired it with arrow which they gave plenty of buzz for!

  7. I look forward to a time where the CW no longer considers these ratings super important. I think they are slowly moving in that direction. Thanks Pedowitz!

  8. Pairing Supernatural and Arrow together was not an attempt to make Supernatural better. It was an attempt to ensure Arrow was a hit. The CW took their two highest rated shows and paired them with their two most promising new shows in hopes that the new shows would do much better than the original shows. It worked with Arrow. Not so much with Beauty and the Beast. Yes, Supernatural is reaping the benefits of Arrow, but hindsight is 20/20. After all, Ringer was supposed to be a huge hit and it flopped. Secret Circle the same. Next year I expect the CW to do the same thing. Take its top 3 shows and put them all on different days (so SPN and Arrow will likely not be back-to-back next season) to attempt to get more traction throughout the week. I honestly would expect to see Supernatural on Monday or Tuesday next season in an attempt to keep the CW from the disaster that is this year so far.

  9. YAY The Vampire Diaries came in first! Best show on tv. Glad to see Supernatural came in 5th but I think it should have been 2nd bc thats the 2nd best show on TV. Arrow seems to be doing pretty good, but Ringer was doing pretty good to but they got cancelled as the season went on, so you never know. Im surprised Beauty and the Beast did well, hopefully it stays its a good show. Glad to see my favorite shows are doing good:)

  10. I don't know if SPN will have a next season:( because it seems like this one is the last one, but than again, we all thought that season 5 was the last season. So, hopefully it stays, Id rather it be on a Monday because my Tuesdays are full with Pretty Little Liars, and Id like my shows to be spread out over the week, so I have something to look forward to.

  11. Unless things change drastically, Supernatural is all but guaranteed to have a season 9. Jensen and Jared are contracted through season 10, SPN is the third highest rated show on the CW, and Warner Brothers is making tons of money through the DVDs, syndication, conventions, and merchandising. There is absolutely no indication at this time that season 8 will be the last. The biggest question right now to me is whether we will have a season 10 (things look promising but it is far, far too early to tell) or beyond.

  12. It's good to see that Supernatural is stable. And I should probably check out Arrow - I've heard good things.

  13. Stop bashing Arrow and comparing it to Ringer ! Arrow is not Ringer and you can't predict for sure that Arrow will be cancelled ! For now, Arrow has the best figure in total viewers and is stable on 18-49 share. CW is not only about TVD or SPN ! I really hope that Arrow will have a full pick up season and will be renewed, the show has a LOT of potential.

  14. Supernatural is my favorite show on any network, with TVD next. I am loving Arrow, but when watching Beauty last week I kept thinking this woman is to stupid to live and if at the end she had not said the same thing it would have been my last ep for the show. Since she now knows what she did was dumb and hopefully is changing I will give it another try. Just don't understand why it is higher than SPN and bet it won't be next week. Did not care for Emily but will watch a few more eps, but NIKITA was the best ep from them in a long time..I loved it. Hart of Dixie was fun as usual and have never watched GG, 90210, or the model thing. CW is my favorite network.

  15. actually Ringer was nor doing pretty good

  16. I totally see SPN moving to 9pm on Monday or Tuesday next season. TVD, Arrow and SPN will each anchor a night (as it stands).

Its way to early to judge what will happen with the other shows but if Mark Pedowitz has been told to clean house I expect a lot of cancellations.

  17. YAY HoD!!!!!!!!!!
(I was very confident SPN would be doing good so that's why I'm not yaying for them... ;D)

  18. Supernatural is now 4th - likely to soon be 5th. Just because the actors have a contract does not guarantee there will be another season. Pedowitz really likes the show and that's a positive, but the CW has never ordered as many scripts to pilot as it has this year. The ratings are better than last year, but I feel less confident than last year considering how much better in the ratings TVD, Arrow, and B&B are doing. Fans of Supernatural can't be complacent and rely on the fact that the actors have signed. They need to keep watching - and a little less griping about the storylines would likely go a long way too... but maybe that's just me...

    ReplyDelete
  19. These ratings will continue to be important - Pedowitz is simply relying more on DVR numbers +3 and +7. The problem is that ratings are what _advertisers_ look at. No show can be made without a steady flow of cash... syndication and merch etc help, but will never replace upfront advertising dollars. At least not as the system stands now.

  20. This week the only shows that had higher demos than Supernatural were The Vampire Diaries and Arrow, hence it is the third best this week. Beauty and the Beast had a huge drop to a 0.7, which by the way was what Supernatural was making most of last spring. That is not good for a show in their second episode and does not bode well for its success. Plus it was the second week in a row that the first half hour got better numbers than the second. Again not a good sign for a new show. It is possible that Beauty and the Beast will go up again but it would be surprising if it topped a 1.0 unless last week was just a fluke. I'm not sure which other show you also think will top Supernatural. It's hard to believe any of the Monday, Tuesday, or Friday shows will get a 1.0 or higher. Carrie Diaries has promise with all the good reviews but that's not until midseason and Cult will have a difficult time just staying on the air.

I agree that the CW may clean house but I don't believe they have it in their budget to launch 5 new shows so either way Supernatural should stay safe if their ratings stay at a 0.7 or above. Heck even at a 0.5 or 0.6 I'd bet it would get a final season since the CW is famous for those. However the biggest thing for SPN besides being one of the best rated shows on the network is that Warner Brothers is one half of Pedowitz's boss and I don't see them letting go of a show that still brings in the money.

    ReplyDelete
  21. You have seen some of the other shows Warner Brothers produces, right? They make a LOT more money than Supernatural. My comments here are not to try to explain how the system works, but simply to caution people who say these numbers don't matter. They do. I, personally, would like to see Supernatural get a full season 9 and 10, but if people don't tune in, that is simply not going to happen. It's also a dangerous game to say well all these other shows are going to fail - if they do, the CW could have trouble staying on the air... There's no doubt that the tv landscape is changing and how that landscape is assessed is changing, and that's one of the things that has me worried. Supernatural has traditionally gone way up in DVR numbers - that doesn't seem to be the case this season. I'm going to keep urging all my friends to keep watching or start watching. Supernatural is better than ever this season.

  22. I personally don't think the CW is going to exist as we know it after 2016. I predict a huge affiliate withdrawal the moment they can legally do so. I never said that numbers do not matter. Money is all that matters. For most TV that means demo numbers and Supernatural is doing very well in those. We are at a 1.0 in demo and the third best ratings on the CW. That's what counts. No matter where Emily Owens, Beauty and the Beast, 90210, Hart of Dixie, and Nikita ultimately fall out, right now they are behind Supernatural so those are the only numbers I can use at this time. Anything of course is possible, but at this time there is no reason to fear that this will be the last season for Supernatural. Too say otherwise is to discount what the demos are saying. Perhaps the DVR numbers you are worried about are simply because more people can watch SPN live and are doing so, which helps SPN's chances.

  23. These numbers I am specifically talking about are women ages 18-34. Most other networks look at people 18-49 and I am looking forward to the CW getting there too. The niche focus on this subgroup is what has caused the CW to fail in the first place in my opinion and it is one Pedowitz seems to share by the way. He has stated over and over again that he would like to broaden the CW's viewing audience, especially to get more men watching the CW. I think that is a great plan but it is probably too little too late. Pedowitz is not to my knowledge looking any harder at DVR +3 and +7 numbers than anyone else. I'd love to see your link to that info. Those are the numbers that publicity and marketing love to tout but they don't have a lot of bearing. It's C3 numbers that ultimately count and DVR doesn't usually help that since people skip the commercials.

What Pedowitz is trying to do is market online viewing. Right now that won't come anywhere close to making up for a lack of advertising dollars. I doubt it will in time to save the CW but if he comes up with some innovative ideas, he's going to find himself another job very quickly. Just for the record, no Netflix and Hulu deals won't be able to float the CW in lieu of advertising dollars either. I do expect the system to change at sometime but it won't come anytime soon. The best thing Pedowitz can do is try as much out of the box thinking as he can and look for other shows like Arrow to promote to try to draw a diverse crowd to the netlet. I think Ostroff left the CW in too big a mess for him to turn around in 5 years but I do expect to see Pedowitz's name leading another network if he can prove that he has ideas to help lead them into a new age of TV marketing.

  24. I am really loving Arrow. It's the best new show of the season to me, mostly because it has fabulous pacing, lots or action, and a mystery I am already invested in and it's only the second episode. I highly urge you to try it.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Beauty and the Beast is higher in women 18-34. It is not higher in the overall demo. While people keep saying this demo is the most important to the CW, it's hard to prove with actual data. After all Secret Circle and Ringer were doing better in this subset than Nikita was and it was Nikita that was renewed. I think Pedowitz has been shying away from this subset in an attempt to make the CW have a broader viewing audience so I'm not sure if these numbers have much bearing anymore. They certainly matter less to him than they did to Ostroff.

  26. how did this turn into a supernatural debate/discussion/ post? my concern was for Nikita and what I originally meant was for arrow to lead in nikita (as there was plenty of buzz and advertising for arrow when compared to nikita which is doing badly) i realise its unfeasible but I am desperate to save my favourite show and cant understand why people dont watch it! even moving it midseason to after arrow might save it because theyre similar shows in quality genre etc. *and my two cents on supernatural is that has run farr too long and there cant be much further to take it surely... i thought this season would be its last honestly

    ReplyDelete
  27. Boy do I agree with you on the griping, it would be a big turn off to any new people wanting to check out SPN. Even the worse ep of SPN is better than most of what I find on TV..IMHO.

  28. Here's the link. http://paidcontent.org/2012/05/30/how-netflix-really-did-save-the-cw/ The specific comments about the DVR number were made at a symposium for Entertainment lawyers at UCLA- which I attended, so I guess you'll have to take my word on that source. I think you'll be surprised at what the entertainment industry has in the pipeline for tv and I think you'll be surprised at how quickly things may change. I would also like to mention that I find your very condescending tone off-putting.

  29. Thanks for the added recommendation - I think I will!

  30. Much of this article reiterates what I was trying to say - the CW under Pedowitz is attempting to broaden into digital marketing by using out of the box thinking but that digital marketing does not help their case in persuading affiliates to stick around after 2016. It highlights the CW streaming content much faster than anyone else and how they are attempting to construct an advertising model that does not rely solely on Nielsen numbers, which I believe will help brand Pedowitz as a TV innovator. Historically TV like many big industries have taken a long time to change business models so I am skeptical about big changes happening quickly. I would love to see it but since they still haven't managed to capitalized on the worldwide market, I will take a believe it when I see it attitude. By the way, I also found your posts condescending which is why I should never have responded so late at night. I know better than that. So in the interest of peace, I will no longer respond to your posts even if you continue to reply to what I post.

  31. Random question - I just started watching Supernatural on netflix and am about halfway through the second season.... I really got into some of it but have been really bored with most of this season minus a few episodes.... debating if it may just be a boring season or if the show isn't for me - any thoughts?

    ReplyDelete
  32. I don't know what to tell you, there have been very few ep of SPN that I have not liked. For me even the slow ones are better than most of what is on TV. Some of my favorite ep in season 2 are In My Time of Dying, Hunted, Born Under a Bad Sign, What is and What Should Never Be. and All Hell Breaks Loose, but saying that, when I do a marathon I don't skip any of S2. J2 are awesome actors and Jensen can get to me with a misty eye. lol

  33. I think my problem is I'm not crazy about alot of the single episode storylines. Like the few mini-story arcs they've done... I've been hoping they at least start doing longer onces as the show goeson

    ReplyDelete
  34. One of my main problems with this show is you have to really watch it, can't be doing something else or you miss things. So much is just done without words, looks pass between them or motions. Very few of the eps don't have something to move the story along. The Winchesters are just members of my family and I care what happens to them..I laugh and cry with and for them.
