okay let me start by saying vdiaries is my FAVORITE show and i love it!! but i did not love this episode I'm not really sure what it was, maybe i was just so excited and expected so much that it just couldn't live up to my expectations but i feel like i waited the entire episode for something to happen and it never did. the new council stuff was interesting i guess but it never really grabbed my attention and other then that what really happened that we didn't know from the season finale? maybe this is just my opinion and i still love the show and ill probably watch the episode again to see if maybe i just missed stuff but yeah didn't love the episode
"What can be more horrible than you turning into a vampire?" Is it just me or did he asked Anna to turn him. And he took Annas blood and sleeping pills to kill himself.
Becca is such a bitch. Mocking about killing Elena and watching her die again. But at least she finally got it. Klaus never cared about her. Or the rest of his family. Only for his f*****g army of slaves. Good revenge. Destroying his blood supplies. I just hope he isn't taking it out on Elena.
Besides: Who was stupid enough to let him out of the coffin? When his soul returned into his body, he was still in there, wasn't he? At least I didn't saw his body lying around. But he would be stupid to let his body in there while returning into it.
Yuuhuu, big bad vampire out here. Damon was priceless.
I really expected it would be Matts blood that completed Elenas transition. Stefan was right. Matt needs to prove that he is worth of living.
I like Carolines ring better than Elenas.
Why was the pastor killing them all? Compelled by Damon?
Pretty good. I'd say it's somewhere between okay and great so I rounded up.
- Elena's uncontrollable laughter wasn't Dobrev's greatest acting moment. - Stefan admitted Damon was right for once. It's a miracle. - Rebekah is still so difficult to like but I'm hanging in there. She did help Elena and she's finally fed up with her douchebag brother so that's a start. Yay! for no more hybrids. - Grams c*ckblocked Bonnie from saving Elena. Her intentions were good but I still wanted to smack her in that moment. - Poor Matt. Please don't go all mopey-emo guy because of what happened. - Where the f*ck did a priest find his own SEAL team six to take out all those vamps? What a load of crap (#1). Did those people have infrared goggles to see through the closed curtains too? Those shots into the house were pretty miraculous, especially the stake though Bekah's chest. - How does a town council just snap their fingers and take over a hospital and an entire law enforcement agency? Oh, and they arrested the mayor with no legal reason to do so. This is load of crap # 2. - Damon is still being Damon. Some things don't change and I'm grateful. - I wasn't getting good vibes from Jeremy in this episode. He better not turn out to be some anti-supernatural dick this season. - Vampires need to start using weapons. Things would be so much easier. As soon as the priest came to the door, Damon could have put a bullet in his head. No invitation necessary. - WTF was up with that suicide-bomby ending? That was crazypants.
Anyway, it was a solid overall story with a few irritating believability problems.
The episode was just okay for me, honestly I thought it would be better. I thought the Elena feeding bit was pathetic, licking the blood from the guy on the floor they should have had her actually bite someone. The episode just lacked oomph really, I was expecting it to be much better.
While I really enjoy TVD being back on tv, this episode was just so-so. Thought they would have a more spectacular way of turning Elena (of course it was just in time, but come on, we all knew she would turn in some way).
The pastor and his council members... never seen any of their faces, not even during some of the scenes in previous seasons where there was a council meeting (like when Alaric outed the gang). So them being part of some kind of movement, not sure where they are going with this? Are they going to be ghosts who have the ability to infiltrate and kill vampires while not actually being there in human form? Or is/was the pastor just some crazy nut, believing that their cause will bring them back in some way?
Loved the whole Caroline/Tyler/Klaus story line... thought they would keep Klaus inside Tyler's body a bit longer though, never expected Caroline to find out so soon, would've been funny how long Klaus would've been left undetected =P
Your first point, the uncontrollable laughter wasn't the only moment when I thought that it wasn't Nina Dobrev greatest acting moment. Also the first few minutes when she woke up and realized what had happened and knew she would become a vampire were a little strange. Luckily there was Ian Somerhalder to save the day with his blunt reaction, "you either feed, or you die".
Overall, the episode was just a bit too repetitive, but maybe they are trying to get new viewers...??
I bet that Klaus will have a big part in saving the day this season. He might have been the big baddie for the past 2 seasons, but since they have to come up with something new each year, the group might need this evil Original to help them out, after all, he cannot die.
TVD is CW's highest rated drama, so I don't think there is anything to worry about. Besides unless you have one of the rating boxes it does not matter how you watch it.
I'm with rehabber. It would be great if more people with Nielsen boxes watched it live but TVD's ratings are quite respectable for a CW show and it isn't in danger of being canceled if that's what you're worried about.
Certain themes were highlighted in a way to summarize the past 3 seasons, Elena not wanting to be a vampire, being completely fine to die to save her friends; Stefan and his (almost compulsive) behavior to always do what Elena wishes even when it means it will get her killed; Bonnie not being able to perform her magic (she's been trying to become powerful for 3 seasons, and has not really succeeded so far); Matt mainly used as bait etc.
Don't get me wrong, the Tyler/Caroline/Klaus story line, totally invested in that + of course I didn't see Grams coming either. This episode just didn't tell us anything new, which seems weird, since this show normally tells us at least one thing we didn't already know. (Of course I didn't see that explosion coming, but since I wasn't invested in any of those, never seen before, council members, for me it didn't create the cliffhanger vibe as TVD normally does really well)
Just a bit disappointed, not the best season opener ever.
I see what you mean. The premiere did highlight a handful of previously established themes. Plus, since most of the premiere was action oriented, there wasn't a lot of time for many exposition-heavy scenes to move past it. In that sense, I understand where you're coming from. Also, since the premiere was so heavily covered, teased, and previewed, there wasn't a lot of opportunity for surprise.
Yeah, maybe it is also because the past 3 years TVD started early September, so in that sense, since the start of production (and Comic-Con) it had an extra month of getting the viewers excited. And since it was about the transition of Elena, everyone knew that she would turn, since killing of your lead actress is not-done, even for a show like TVD.
I expected to hate it. I firmly believe they should have let Klaus go at the end of season 2. I firmly believe they should have let Klaus go at the end of season 3. Klaus is still there. Fine. I'll have to put up with his childish temper tantrums some more.
Despite that. I loved the episode. Loved Elena constantly reminding Stefan that he did what she asks and thanking him for it. As Damon was being Damon. (and gloriously so) Loved Stefan telling Matt to quit feeling sorry for himself. Really hoping Rebekah...finally gets a clue and stops nipping at Klaus' heels. (That character is starting to feel like an abused child to me. Really hoping this is the start of her growing up and into her own. She's a great character and I'd love to see her start marching to her won drum.
That final scene with the reverend made me laugh out loud. When he started his speech I was thinking....shoot they diminished this by turning it into vampire hunting cult drivel then I realized that none of his minions *knew* what he was doing! They were just citizens in the know trying to right/save their town and didn't realize until too late that his six pack was empty.
That whole scene felt like a magical plan. I think we're going to see them again..in some supernatural form or another.
A few of my favorites things:
Caroline twigging to Klaus being in Tyler so quickly. It was the other reason I thought I was going to hate this premiere. I was worried I'd have to endure at least half a season of watching Klaus trying to pretend to be Tyler. And I must be fair...points to Klaus for trying to stop the sex session...knowing that he wasn't who Caroline thought she was kissing.
And GRAMS!!! Loved seeing Grams back. Though I fear she's gone for good.
I didn't get the impression that most of the people with the pastor were council members. When he was talking to the Sheriff didn't he declare that the entire council was corrupted (not the exact words) and that he had her deputies and 'other people' to help him?
According to the recaps on tvline.com and Entertainment Weekly it were council members, which meant that the vampires are safe for now... I'm also sure that those people will be back again, why blow yourself up if you are not sure that you will.
I'd excised the laughing scene from my memory. Not happy you reminded me of it. :-D
Hasn't Matt always been 'mopey-emo guy' Love that! I'm hoping Stefan's get a grip speech made a dent.
As for the SEAL team six...I assumed those were the Sheriff's deputies that the pastor turned...or, more likely, simply informed that since their boss was now fighting for the other side they should work with him.
I didn't have a problem with the 'take over' aspects of the story. We're dealing with a small town that's had a clandestine authority system in place for nearly a century....lots of time to indoctrinate... so the idea of someone swaying the foot soldiers to follow them wasn't difficult for me to buy.
- The pastor said he'd "taken" Liz' deputies. I don't know if that means he switched their allegiances or he relieved them of duty or detained them or what. So, you could be right. - Up until this premiere, that clandestine authority system has seemed rather inept since the beginning of the series, except in flashbacks. That's why I have a problem with it. I don't buy that they all miraculously got their sh*t together. - " I'm hoping Stefan's get a grip speech made a dent." So am I. If the speech doesn't work, I'm sure he'll be too busy dealing with and fending off Rebekah to mope too much.
@Bruce_F:disqus - Up until this premiere, that clandestine authority system has seemed rather inept since the beginning of the series, except in flashbacks. That's why I have a problem with it. I don't buy that they all miraculously got their sh*t together.
The idea of um...not villains...adversaries that are as smart of the heroes is still something that happens way too rarely in film. I'm really hoping that since the Council is supposed to actually be on the playing field this season that they will be given brain cells and actually, be contenders, in stead of a plot convenience that's mentioned only as 'local color'
The council may be in play this season but it'll have to be on another plane of existence because they all done got blowed up. According to some Julie Plec interviews, after the premiere, the immediate danger they were all in from the council has gone away because of what the priest did. That's why I'm thinking this cult-like sacrifice at the end of the show will ultimately be used as some sort of soul-fuel for a super hunter later on in the season, much in the same way witches draw power from their bloodline.
The episode was OK. They've been going back and forth between Stefan and Damon too much. She belongs with Damon, not the boring stefan. Either way, Elena is getting boring. The fact that she remembers everything was handled very underwhelming IMO. I don't know, somehow I just don't really care what happens anymore. I do however still like Caroline and Rebekah.
it was very good. I liked how they did everything. I dont care much for the bonnie parts, they are a bit too much out there for me, but apart from that very nicely done. And glad klaus is back in his body already. Tyler and Caroline are my favorite pair from the show. Also loved how they got Elena's memories back. I had low expectations for this because i was angry with vampire diaries late last season but it was good
I agree with your every word. Like everything. I firmly hate the fact that Klauss is still there so I have to try to get past that every episode, becausr the rest of the show is still very enjoyable. So I expected to hate the premiere but ended up liking it much more than it thought (even when i am angry with the vampire diaries, i never actually hate them though). Also, I loved that Caroline also found out that Tyler wasn't Tyler very early on. I love them together and I would stand her having sex with false Tyler. It would be too much for me.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Hold on tight I think we are for a bumpy ride of a season.
ReplyDeleteAWESOME! This season is gonna be so great!
ReplyDeleteGreat start. Excited about the new season. :D

ReplyDelete..fast acting resolve and create problems episode but very cool in a way
ReplyDeleteDid not disappoint moved fast and left me with a lot of questions for next ep. I loved the scene with Elena remembering Damon saying I love you. sigh
ReplyDeleteI loved it and can't wait for more!! next week looks interesting!!!
ReplyDeleteOK. Felt a little choppy. For a show I enjoy quite a lot I found this to be an overall mediocre episode.
ReplyDeletefinally stefan and elena! also some great storytelling. oh and can we get rid of klaus.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't a strong episode, but looking forward for the others.
ReplyDeleteCool intro.
ReplyDelete"I'm human. At least I was."
