    Now I agree that sam is hiding something about his year ''off'', after years of hunting he never thought about how to send a demon back in someone...but all the sudden he learned/thought about it one day while he was walking his dog or whatever??? That's suspicious

    I KNEW Castiel didn't just abandon Dean for no reason... that scene between them broke my heart a little... typical Dean Winchester, refusing to take no for an answer when it comes to those closest to him.


    And my heart broke even further when Kevin's mom bid her soul to save her son. I actually really liked her... and Crowley possessing her? Definitely didn't see that one coming. I'm glad she's back to normal, though. I hope she sticks around.


    And oh my gosh... Sam beaning the auction guy over the head with Thor's hammer? Priceless. That's a weapon that could really come in handy.


    I still think they're doing a really great job of integrating the flashbacks in the fabric of the narrative. They don't feel forced, and the cross cutting that they did with Dean getting information out of the creature in purgatory and the prisoner in real time was fantastic.


    And that tidbit at the end? Looks like we have some insight into why Dean looks so haunted every time Cas is mentioned - it looks like maybe he left him to die. I still don't believe they killed him for good, though.

    Your last paragraph and the reaction from Alfie when he asked Dean about Cas.said it all. He looked like his dog just got run over. Cas having too big of a heart and still trying to make it up to Dean.

    Sorry it just feels like they've gone back to season 7 ways of showcasing guest stars above the main characters. I don't like episodes that are light on Sam and Dean. I don't care that much about random guest stars sorry.

    Loved the episode and I love Kevin's mom. She was great in the pawn shop. I laughing during that whole scene. Loved Dean's memories of purgatory and Cas. I also figured that Cas left Dean to protect him from something. Cas would never abandon Dean.

    This episode.. in all aspects.. was beyond amazing. Everything from splashing tiger momma with water and soap, to the angels expressing concern for Castiel, to Dean's super dark nature and flashbacks coinciding with what's happening was seriously awesome. Dean is incredibly interesting this season, in a way I haven't felt since the earlier seasons, if even then. At the same time he's both his casual, funny self.. and a downright beast; so collected, focused, and intense. The flashbacks with Cas were amazing (though I'm sure some will disagree), and even Benny's pointing out Cas just leaving Dean (and Cas' explanation) felt so real and well thought out.

    Definitely liking Carver as the new show runner. Loving it.

    Solid second outing. I'm quite interested to see how this season plays out. Though I have to say it's painful to watch Dean be so resigned and having given up on hope and his own humanity. He's just so cold and distant this season. I do believe he's finally reached his limit. Fingers crossed the character's storyline will be getting back in touch with himself and the people around him.

    This! He really did. And that last scene really made me wonder, because Cas' eyes are so huge, and it's almost like he's shocked, even as he reaches out ot Dean and cries out for his help. Kind of like either Dean left him? or turned on him in some way? And with how Dean's been behaving this season, especially this episode, I get the impression that Dean is willing to do anything to meet his goals. Even kill innocent people. God, Dean's intensity is amazing, and Jensen's acting is spectacular this season. Its like Dean's had a psychotic, crazed killer break. I'd be terrified of him if he faced me like he did that prisoner/monster.

    Kevin's mom was pretty awesome. I love how she took the tattoo like it was nothing, but Kevin was squirming. lol Honestly, he took it way better than I could ever have (I have an issue with needles).


    Dean was pretty scary when he wrapped his tie around the guy's throat. He doesn't mess around. Definitely darker this season.


    Crowley: "D is for dumbass". lol Sarcastic as ever. And turning out to be a great villain for the season.


    Question: Was it me, or was Crowley's smoke red? Did I see that right???? If so, I wonder why? Even other crossroad demons have all had black smoke as far as I remember?


    Also, I wonder who Kevin's father is??????


    I liked the new angel and what he said about Cas. I think I recognize the actor, but I don't know from where. The clothes were so funny- I don't think we've seen an angel out of a suit before besides Cas.


    Loved that Dean finally hugged Cas! I was kinda expecting it after seeing Dean hug Benny when they got out of Purgatory. That scene is now one of my favorite Dean and Cas scenes between that hug, Castiel's reason for leaving Dean alone, and Dean refusing to leave Cas behind in Purgatory. It showed how real their friendship is, though they haven't always seen eye to eye. I'm really anxious to see what happened at the end- it's going to bug me until we see it.


    That was quite a rough ending there with Kevin. I can understand his worry but he really isn't safer alone. The demons will find him eventually. Though I suppose, he did survive a long while alone without Sam and Dean.


    Lastly, I want to say- That was Thor's hammer! lol Sam should keep it! He looked great wielding it. ;D

    Ironic how it seems like Dean was more in touch with his feelings in Purgatory, than he is now. Personally, I thought this was the best episode Supernatural has offered in a while.

    Overall a strong episode. Two consecutive weeks of smart Sam. Yay!!! Did we beat last year's record yet??


    So my thoughts ...


    So we know demons are twisted human souls and Crowley said he doesn't have a soul. Did Crowley just confirm he's not a demon?


    Speaking of demons, I really need for this show to spell out the rules. Demons hate holy water, but Ruby in season 3 said a demon of Lilith's stature wouldn't sweat holy water, but holy water took down Crowley last week. In the old days, the rules of transport were simple. They traveled in a smoke cloud until they were in a human host. When they were in a human, they were governed by human limitations, unless they smoked out again. Now demons can sometimes teleport in and out and they sometimes smoke out. So my question this week is why Crowley, who had no problem overpowering Sam and Dean last week and kidnaping Kevin (until Kevin doused him with holy water), this week left without Kevin - because he was too close to the Winchesters? I'm confused!!


    This episode made a strong case for Sam's desire to leave hunting. A typical day in the job, they killed three humans (demon hosts), killed three demons, caused one nice woman to almost lose her soul and apparently lose her sanity, they lost their profit and their word of God tablet. Did I miss anything?


    After last week hearing Dean being a jerk about Sam having a dog in the car, was anyone else chanting "do it, do it, do it" when Sam was considering putting Baby on the block?

    This ep was even better than last week, something is going on with Sam and Dean. I kept thinking that Dean was going to go ballistic, even more than he did with the prisoner and Sam is hiding something. I mean he had never put a demon back in someone before. I don't think he learned that from the vet although last week she was mean enough to be a Demon. lol

    Loved Kevin's mom and I groaned when they let her come along, but it worked out. Crowley was excellent as usual, the plan "D" for Dummy was so funny.

    Will watch a couple more times tomorrow, once with CC turned on to make sure I did not miss any words. Really excited about this season.

    I see your point but I think the episode had to take that angle to further the story as it is being written. It would almost be harder to put the guest stars in the stand alone episodes. Kevin's a huge part of the story now and his girlfriend had her turn last week and this may be the last we see of his mom now. Kind of like Kevin has been dropped into Cas' spot.

    Crowley is a regular demon who's managed to take control of hell and has a swelled head. I get the impression he clings to his power, as opposed to has actually earned it. He was just there to pick up the pieces after Lucifer and all the rest lost everything.

    Lilith, if I remember right, was one of the first ever demons. Molded by Lucifer himself. She was as old as his reign in hell, and Very powerful because of all this. Not sure though, because yellow eyes was old to, one of the first too, if I remember right, and holy water still hurt him. *shrug*

    I've been wondering this for a long time now. Everything..or almost, we saw in The End happened...Cas becoming human, LuciSam, the croatoan, Bobby getting killed by gunshot...etc. Lucifer did told that they could change details, order or whatever and they would still end up there. It's like they change orders of those things happening, some came and go...but still happened


    Maybe something big will happen in 2014

    I've thought about this before too! That everything in The End is coming to pass in one fashion or another. This is rather brilliant foresight if so. Dean this season seems worse then the Dean of the End, and you can definitely see the similarities. I'd love, love, LOVE to see an episode where the old Dean pops up in this time and is like, WTH??? Dude, chill out! Remove the stick and value the good things in life! People matter! They do! Lol ;)

    But then shouldn't it be easier for them to kill Crowley then it was to kill YED or Lilith? Somehow it seems harder. And was Crowley's host laying outside the room when he was in Mrs. Tran? Why is it that they can't get anywhere near Crowley with the knife when he is in his Crowley suit, but Dean could have killed him when he was in Mrs. Tran?

    Honestly, I was a bit worried about this episode because lets' face it, does anyone really want Kevin and his mom riding in the back seat of the Impala all season? But I think it went way better than expected. This was a very solid episode that furthered the mystery of Purgatory and Dean's new outlook on life, and gave us a little Crowley-time. I think the flashbacks worked a bit better this week. They didn't seem to be forced in (although to be fair, they had to put them in the premiere to jumpstart the story!) Nice to see a smart Sam. Saying an exorcism backwards works? Huh. Who woulda thought? But I did like how he jumped in with the answer to the math problem -- it was like he was competing with Advanced Placement Kevin. :) A nice reminder that Sam was no slouch in the brains department.


    Dean was much darker than he's been in recent seasons, and I for one applaud his new outlook. Although Kevin believing Crowley's rhetoric about the Winchesters always getting people killed is a bit short sighted of him. Yes, Sam did ignore his calls for a year, but he's supposed to be a smart kid. Does he actually believe he's better off protecting his mom than two hunters who've been saving people all their lives? Dean would never defend himself, but I hope Sam gets the chance to remind Kevin that his brother has saved the world a few times without any thanks. People do die around the Winchesters, but I hardly think the blame falls on them.


    I liked Alfie. He kind of reminded me of a young cross between Tom Cruise and Scott Wolfe. I swear I've seen him before, but really can't place him. So the angels didn't know Cas went to Purgatory either? Apparently they don't pay attention at all. Loved Thor's Hammer. I thought the magic of the hammer was that only Thor could wield it. I guess Sam has some 'Avenger' in him. It would've been funny to throw a Captain America quip in there somewhere, too. :)


    As for Cas, leaving Dean alone in a place full of monsters to protect him? OK. A bit lame, but OK. Leviathans may be looking for him, but I'm guessing they're a little ticked at Dean, too. Better to have each other's backs than to run with no explanation, i'm glad Dean was adamant about not leaving without him, but not sure Castiel got the implication. Really interested to find out what happen to force Dean to leave alone. I like Benny. He seems to have Dean's back since he needs him, and I am looking forward to episode 5 where Sam finds out about him. Oughta be some fireworks there. :)


    A great start to season 8! Darker, full of mystery, action and intrigue. A great new direction.

    You've got lots of good points. 1) The demon IS the soul. So it would be like a soul having a soul. 2) I said the same about Crowley and the holy water last week. Seems like demonology is fluid! 3) Crowley must have other plans or needs to regroup after not being able to hold Kevin before. He may think he's got all the demon destruction spells memorized or so. Sam needs an unwanted pregnancy to really get his head spinning!

    Just a quick note about the Kevin thing. I think its mostly that he saw Dean about to slit his mother's throat.. more then anything else. I'd say that pretty much qualifies for staying FAR away from these two men. From Dean specifically. I don't care what is going on around me, if my mom's throat is about to be cut by the man whose supposed to be protecting her, I'd be pissed and scared to death too. Good for Kevin. The kid really /is/ smart. I'm so happy the secondary characters this season are acting intelligent instead of just accepting things as they are.

    The flashbacks worked very well as did the entire episode for me. i think the telling point in where Dean is headed was the interrogation scene. Dean lost track of which world he was in and I loved the parallel between the two.

    I would have hoped Smart Sam would have held on to that darn hammer. But then nobody there should have been able to lift it. (Nice catch, by the way)

    I liked the angel also and thought, as you, that it was weird that they didn't know where Cas was. But then I would have thought they would have just taken the tablet by force instead of offering up the Vatican.

    I also wondered how the Leviathan were back in Purgatory. Didn't they "hold on" when the rest of the souls were expunged? That would leave them all topside to get whacked.

    And I just thought Cas had cold feet at the end. He always wanted to get out with Dean but was too proud to admit it. Until it was too late.

    That's a really good point. I equate him in Purgatory to a question someone asked me recently. I was asked if I could find out the date of my death, would I want to know? I said yes, of course. Imagine all the things you could do knowing you can't die. Dean seems to have realized he is the one being hunted and he has the satisfaction of knowing that all he needs to do is kill as that is his destiny. All his decisions are made. What he does he does for himself.

    The actual plot of the thing, I thought could have been better. There was a lot of poorly handled exposition; and unnecessarily convoluted, or improperly set up plot elements; and lackluster dialogue.


    Kevin's mom has awesome-potential, especially once someone else gets to write her, I think.


    Crowley was a delight, as always.


    BUT OH MY GOD. EVERYTHING TO DO WITH CASTIEL.


    That alone is worth the awesome rating.


    "Too much heart was always Castiel's problem."


    "I'm not leaving here without you."

    For a Dabb and Loflin script, this was pretty great, one of their best I think. Loved Kevin's mom, Sam wielding Mjolnir (and a frost giant finger bone, lol!), the flashbacks were very effective (especially in the interrogation scene - pretty awesome use!), lots of baby scenes (Dean's freak out to Sam "I'll kill you, your kids, and your grandkids"). The final scene(s) was pretty powerful...










    Another strong episode. Season seven started out just as strong then took a turn for the worse from ep 3 to about 8...so I'm hoping next week's keeps up the awesome pace. I think I'm really going to like the use of flashbacks.

    I liked everything about this episode except Kevin trusting them all the way till the end when Dean just puts the blade to Kevins mom and Crowley says his line and all the sudden, Kevin don't trust them. The worst though is seeing Crowley in smoke, dropping the tablet (the same thing he was supposedly going to kill Kevin's mom for............and then stands there. Crowley has enough time to get out of one body, into another room, behind a door and open the door and take the tablet........guess the tablet wasn't to big of a deal to get cause they had a good minute at least to grab it.

    Other than that, it was amusing and pretty cool.

    /That/ I have no idea. I've seen several instances when Dean or sam should have been able to gank Crowley. Crowley's smart, but he leaves himself open. He's cocky. Dean and Sam arren't stupid. I think it fully has to do with the fact that Crowley is VERY popular with fans, and most don't want him going anywhere. Originally, Castiel actually killed Crowley by burning his bones. Later it was taken back, and they just said Cas pretended to kill Crowley, because fans were so upset. I can't blame them. Crowley is the best demon around. Love his accent and wit :)

    Haha I was thinking the same thing about the body too. Like.. okay, did he leave his body right outside the door or something? Though it could explain why crowley was dusting himself off when he came through the door, as though he'd left it on the ground, discarded.

SPN's secondary characters flesh out and add so much to the story, and they always have on SPN. John, Ruby, Azazel, Bobby, Jo, etc, etc.

    I was surprised at the lack of Winchester brothers doing well anything in the second episode too. I enjoyed the episode on a secondary character level but all in all it was strange to put the brothers in the back corner so early in the season.

    The gardener wasn't even the scary part. He killed the woman, the mother's 'friend', very coldly, despite her being the last demon there and them surely having other methods. Hell, putting her in a circle until they could escape, so Crowley wouldn't come afte rthem for instance. Or jsut not being there when crowley came up after the demon went back to hell to tell him. Nope, Dean just ganked the woman, stabbed her in the heart, and gave off the excuse 'oh she's not human' >.<

    While I disagree about the plot being poorly handled, and the dialog being lackluster (Loved everything about this episode), I will HIGHLY agree that the Castiel stuff was amazing! I do understand those feelings, because I felt them too! I had no idea it was coming and it hit me hard! My jaw dropped! Was dumbfounded from the moment Dean crossed that distance with a big ol' smile on his face and hugged Cas like a long lost brother, to the moment he said he was /not/ leaving without Cas, and not leaving Cas along, leviathans be damned.

    It was I hoped for, and never dared believe could be remotely possible, especially during those dark days of last season when Gamble told us Castiel was definitely dead.

    I'm about ready to kiss Carver's toes and ask him if he'd like a porshe with that.

    Oh it works. It doesn't prevent the demon from locating someone, just from entering their body. And, Crowley already knew where she was. Actually though, it might not have even been Crowley who burned off the tattoo, because I think the other guy was working with him and so was the one to do it. Either way, by the time crowley entered her, the tattoo was gone. Remember the scar on her wrist and the fire the guy was using to burn her?

    The look on Kevin's face when his Mom said it wouldn't be her first tattoo was worth the price of admission! Kevin's Mom is an awesome character!


    Loved the episode.


    I've been wondering at the fact that the writers seemed to have just stopped giving a flying fig about the people being possessed. Somewhere, a few seasons ago, they seem to have stopped caring (not necessarily, but the writers.) So, it was good to hear them have to answer the question.


    I was so happy when Kevin told Dean to shut up. He was getting to be a little much. I am worried that I'm going to spend at least half the season wanting to smack Dean upside the head. :-)

    Loved this ep. It was just really really great.

    First, Mrs. Tran. I loved her. Which of course means we don't get to keep her, but still she was awesome.


    I found it really weird that Dean is mad at Sam for not looking for him but also mad at Kevin for wanting to go look for his mom. I love Dean, but he can be a giant hypocrite sometimes.


    Unlike a lot of people I don't think his stint in purgatory is supposed to be a net positive for his character. I don't want him to feel guilty over stuff that's not his fault, but shifting all the way towards, "kill whoever you want, feel guilt later" is not good. He almost iced that dude in the police station. I mean that was just a guy, a thief, but not some monster. I totally understand why such things are necessary in purgatory, but now that he's back on earth, he'll need to adjust. Which of course may take time.


    About Kevin's mom though, I can't say I would have done differently were I in his shoes. It's unfortunate that Kevin had to see it, but it's not like they haven't killed people to get the demon before and they can't really have special rules for people's moms.


    I loved geeky smart Sam in this ep! I laughed when he gave the answer to Mrs. Tran's math question. Also the hammer. Plz chuck, say that Sam kept that hammer.


    The flashbacks were great. The hug!


    Benny is still shady to me. First he tried to tell Dean the guy/monster didn't know anything. Was he lying on purpose, or did he just really not think the guy knew? Hmm. He also appeared to be pretty eager to derail Cas and Dean's reunion. Interesting.


    I'm pretty positive that the kid who played the angel is the same kid from Bugs in season 1. He was an interesting character, but I'm not sure where they were going with that. Will he show up again?


    That last scene. Yeah that explains why Dean's been acting kind of odd/guilty whenever Cas is mentioned. But I don't know. It just looked to me like he was trying to pull Cas up but he couldn't hold on. Do people think he would have let go on purpose?

    I see it as Purgatory gave Dean an easier exsistance. Everythign there was black or white and none of those annoying shades of grey that he struggles with. He was able to kill without prejadice, do things without them playing on his concience because he could tell himself he was doing it to survive. Now he's back he's trying to carry on in the same mind set but obviously the rules are different now. He cant just go around doing whatever without there being concequences/concience. My guess is as the season goes on he'll be called on his behaviour. Benny represents the easy 'Pure' life Dean liked in Purgatory where Sam will be a reminder of what it is to be human. I can see Dean struggling with this and leaning more towards Benny than Sam.

    Positive points for me were Kevin's mom, pretty cool lady, and Crowley, who always is great, and the flashbacks to Purgatory, for what little we got of them.

    Still, the episode seemed a bit jumbled and I was kind of tuning out during the auction. The flashbacks, while cool, just break the flow for me and I wish we had just spent 3-4 episodes in Purgatory with some interesting Sam stuff on the side and call it good.

    Only voted ok because that's all it was for me, not great overall but not bad overall. I will say it is better than most of Season 6 and 7.

    I don't think Dean left Cas to die. I think he was at the portal and trying to bring Cas with him. Trying to hold on to him, but for some reason he couldn't bring Cas through the portal and they couldn't hold on to each other and were ripped apart as Dean went through the portal. I believe that Dean wouldn't willingly leave Cas behind or turn his back on him.

    I generally don't like episodes that ignore Sam and Dean, but I thought this one did OK in that regard. Sam had brains, independent opinions, and a few cool action shots, which puts this episode above about two-thirds of those from last season. We got a deeper look at Dean's PTSD, how it has changed him, and what happened in Purgatory, so there was considerable focus on Dean's story, even if it wasn't the main plot.

    First of all, another really good eppy! S8 is starting off very solid! Love it.

    Second...did anyone else think Angel boy looked alot like a young Tom Cruise? That was weird.

    I absolutely love how they are using the flashbacks of Purgatory. It's not overdone, the clips are short and to the point. It's the perfect use of them. And then of course, paralleling them to Dean's moment in the now. I have this feeling that at some point, Dean is gonna go right off the reservation and go nuts on someone.

    I know the Sam story is still building (we knew the first eps were more Dean heavy), but I really do love this new Sam. He's always been able to keep his cool more than Dean, but he seems even more Zen this year. That year away from hunting did him good....and I think in his mind (and as we saw for the preview for 8.3) he really thinks he'll be able to just drop hunting again after this is over and return to a normal life. We all know that won't happen...but I love that he's clinging to that need he has.

    Kevin's mom was awesome! I wasn't sure about her at first, but she was feisty! And I have to say, seeing her standing next to Jared was very funny. Tiny and Extra Tall.

    All in all, it's so early, but the progression of the storyline so far is the perfect pace and next week we'll learn a bit more about Sam's year of normal....and we'll get to see just how dramatically different it was from Deans. The good life vs the monster life.

    kevins mum was great!!! she was one of my fave parts of the episode, especially when she punched crowley in the face.
    i loved the auction and when it all got twisted and the hammer of thor was simply awesome. but why didn't sam keep it??
    i still think something is up with crowley but just can't put my finger on it.
    anyone else think that kevin's dissapearance and the note seemed fishy?
    loved what we've been given so far and can't wait for more!!!

    I only voted OK. For me s8 has started VERY badly.


    Firstly the ludicrous and ooc story that Sam didn't look for Dean. I will never accept that as anything other than a total red herring (which remains to be seen) or rank bad writing.


    Then the Sam&Dean free zone that was this weeks ep. There is no love coming across from their relationship. It is unrecognisable from previous seasons. They don't even seem that pleased to be reunited. They barely spoke to each other, or made eye contact this week. And as for previous reunions, the miraculous nature of the resurrection is not remotely addressed and is glossed over, when actually they should be showing how much they appreciate being back in the real world (for Dean) and back together.

    So we get zero from Sam and Dean's relationship. Meanwhile I am expected to care about Dean/Cas (I like Cas fine as part of TFW, but have NEVER understood/seen/got/cared about a special relationship between D and C) and Dean/Benny and Sam/Amelia? Sorry if you give me Sam and Dean as the central and strongest relationship in the show then there is room for me to care about other relationships ASWELL. But when you give us them INSTEAD of Dean and Sam's, while simultaneously undermining the strength and importance of that relationship in order to make the others look better in comparison - then sorry I'm not buying.
    That pretty fundamental issue aside, there was lots to like. The cinematography from Purgatory is great. Loved Mrs Tran. Loved genius Sam. I really like Kevin and Crowley is always good fun. The performances are great. Jared is playing Sam very softly; he is sad, quiet, grave almost, and looks exhausted which you wouldn't expect after a year of (alleged) domestic bliss. Jensen is knocking it out of the park as always.
    There were hints that something is going on with Sam. Where did he learn to do a reverse exorcism? He couldn't do that when Dean disappeared. If he's been out of hunting ever since that moment where did that trick come from? Also he's not coming across as at all rusty.
    But overall the bad outweighed the good for me. If there is a twist coming that shows Sam in a better, more in character, light, and if the relationship is meant to be back stronger then they need to make some pretty rapid progress. Having a great destination in mind may not be enough to keep people on board if the journey takes too long and isn't fun. I nearly bailed during the interminable soulless Sam, bro-bond free zone that was early s6. I'm feeling that way again.

    Sorry but that is an argument for throwing character development and continuity out of the window. If I wanted to watch new characters develop new relationships I'll start watching Revolution or Arrow. I watch SPN for Dean, Sam and their relationship. I'm not interested in everything we have lived through with these characters undone just to give the writers a new direction to go in.

    Like I said in another post, I'm starting to thing that Sam is hiding something about the ''none-hunting stuff'', since all the sudden, after a year ''without doing anything'' he learned/understood how to say the exorcism backward knowing it was going to send the demon back in the body and he didn't seem surprise that it worked....


    And for the boys relationship, Jensen did say in a interview that it will get better after Dean ''adjust'' of being out and back home , just give it time. To me, it looked like Sam iis giving some space to his brother

    After reading these comments, sometimes I feel like I'm watching a completely different show. Sometimes that's a good thing, sometimes that's a bad thing and other times it's just a neutral opinion. I love how diverse SPN fans are with their opinion and I always find food for thought that I hadn't thought about before when reading the comments. But I found this episode boring and slow and I hated Mrs. Tran. Even Crowley seemed subdued. But bonus, we get to see his demon eyes and who knew? His smoke is red. I guess that has to do with him being king of hell or something an explanation I'm sure we'll never get directly). The cold open didn't get me pumped for the episode like it usually does. But how cool was it that his deposit box was #1. <---Sarcasm, in case you couldn't tell.

    Very possible. I read "guilt" from Dean's emotions, but I jumped to the conclusion that he left him behind to die. It's also very "Dean Winchester" if he's just feeling guilty that he tried his hardest (and failed) to bring Cas, too.

    I rewatched the episode, and it felt like I was watching season 4 Sam - a little bit harder and detached. When Sam performed the reverse exorcism, I wondered if what we were seeing was Sam pushing the demon back with his mind and making up the line about the reverse exorcism to cover what he was doing. Also, he smelled the demon. It could have been sulfer, but this being Sam, it makes you wonder.

    I love your reasoning. Makes complete and total sense. It's still hard to watch him go through this though (but Jensen is killing it).

    Loved it! I like Kevin's mom. She is one tough cookie that's for sure. I hope we get to see both of them once again. Only one person could get out of Purgatory at a time and I think Cas will have his chance eventually. More of the boys to watch and enjoy! Looking forward to next week's episode. I like to find out what happens when the boys are separated for such a long time. We get to see how they had to live their lives without each other. Can't wait! After all, this is the episode that Jensen directed, right? So, it should be awesome!

    Only 2 episodes in and I have not been this excited since Dean came back from Hell. So happy that Supernatural has it's mojo back. I think I am in love with Kevin Tran . That dude is amazing and I like how he doesn't take crap from Dean. Also I thought Mama Tran was amazing I hope she will be okay after Crowley mind f*#ked her. We can use all the awesome we can get right now.

    BTW anyone know who the dude was supposed to be who was sporting the frost giant digit in order to reclaim Mjolnir . Was it suppose to be either Sindri or Brokkr . Also do you guys think he zapped out before being bonked on the head by Sam? Also why was Sam able to wield a hammer of the gods? Also does anyone think the finger could have belonged to Siggorth ?Anyone have ideas on this

    I loved the episode! exciting plot, lots of action and great purgatory flashbacks. I love it how after Purgatory Dean is completely different than after Hell. I'm glad they managed to stress the difference and not just repeat the old dramas. Loved the reversed exorcism (well, I'm a sucker for the boys speaking latin, what can I do :P).

    And everytime I think I'm fed up with Cas, they bring up something reminding me why I love his friendship with Dean so much. That hug made my heart melt.

    Misty is correct. It was Beau -- aka Mr. Peanut -- who burned the tattoo off. I'm guessing a demon can't touch it. And I'm still confused about Thor's hammer. Every legend I've ever heard cites that only Thor could life it -- even the Avengers say so!! :)

    I guess I can understand why Kevin would want to leave, but like Sam said, Crowley still needs him, so he's put himself right back into the situation he was in before, but now he has to worry about mom, too. And it's not like the Winchesters are just gonna give up on getting the tablet simply because Crowley has it now. But the necessity to stretch the search out for the season dictates Kevin's decisions, so I'm not going to quibble. :)

    Oh, I'm not the only one? I also saw Cas's eyes get all huge, like he was scared or couldn't believe what just happened.

    I don't want to think it, but I believe Dean lets go. Cas' huge eyes and frightened "Dean!" cry makes me think Dean is trying to pull him up, Cas' hand slips out of his grasp, Cas reached for Dean again, but Dean is already backing up, so Cas screams "Dean!" unable to believe Dean is leaving him.

    Dean does look very guilty... It will suck if he does abandon/turn on him, just a few episodes after he promised he wasn't leaving without him.

    No I saw that also, but am thinking the portal was closing and he could not get back to Cas, or Benny grabbed Dean and pulled him thru. Anything else is just to awful to think about.

    Good catch on the actor who played the new angel. He was indeed on 'Bugs', but I remembered him mostly from his part on the show 'The Killing'.
