POLL : What did you think of Merlin - Another's Sorrow?

  1. I kept thinking through ENTIRE episode about the possibility of somebody (anybody at this point!) finding out about Merlin's magic. But unfortunately, I knew it's not gonna happen. I even guessed he's gonna make the ceilling collapse, so how predictable has that become! Or maybe Morgana will notice, no, scratch that, OBVIOUSLY she did not see who hit her directly with a spell. Aah, sometimes the frustration about this secret is just getting to me. Has to be one of these moments.

    Anyway...

About the episode: we finally got to see few scenes of Arthur&Gwen. Nice! I was starting to wonder if they even share a room, cause she never seems to be there;) But we have finally seen more of this lovely couple here, so yay!

Aww at Arthur being so worried about Merlin. He clearly cared a lot, since he asked Gaius to stay with him, instead of going to (supposedly) injured king they were trying to rescue. Priorities;)

I loved the bit where Merlin finally discovered what's going on and then, like a second later, Morgana got him. Wow, she seemed to be all around the place in this episode!

Poor Arthur! Things have always been hard for him, but lately it's like everything was like from a nightmare! He just looked so tired and so purely sad when he saw Morgana. And next week doesn't look any easier for him...

But man, he was SO right about his knights. He has absolutely the best ones!

Overall, another great episode. So far: no fillers, so much action, compelling stories and just generally wonderful season! Keep that going!

    Well done, cast and crew!

  2. Forgive me if I'm wrong but was this the first time we actually saw Odin?

  3. Great episode! It was fun, lots of fights, more magic, and great character moments.

The last scene with Merlin and Gaius finally showed that Merlin's fed up with Morgana, and that he's kinda scared of the amount of power she has now. It makes me wonder if he'll finally use his magic against her in a direct way (no more hiding in a corner, please), but knowing this show, he'll probably never do it or it'll be in the very last episode of the series. I hope it's not the case, as I want to see her reaction to this discovery through at least a couple of episodes.

I wonder where Aithusa was? Poor thing, I hope we get to see more of her. And Kilgharrah seems to be of no more use this series, at least for now. It's good, it shows that Merlin doesn't need his advice that much anymore (or maybe John Hurt wasn't available? :P)

  4. No, he first appeared in ep 2 of series 2 "The Once and Future Queen", when he send the assassin after Arthur, and I just checked and it's the same actor, I wasn't sure if he was.

I know that feeling >_> The whole episode I was like ''ooohhh Merlin has no choice but to strike against Morgana to save his live....scratch that (...) Now Merlin has no choice if he want to get inside, Gwaine will know in 3...2.....oh never mind.......(...) Man Merlin and Arthur are stuck , Merlin will use magic to save both of them!....oh wait''

  7. I so agree with you. I am thoroughly fed up with the writers doing everything possible (and impossible!) to make sure that Merlin does not have to reveal his magic. It is ridiculous and judging by Sandi's comments on next week's episode, this will not get any better!!!

  8. I enjoyed the episode as a whole, but have to wholeheartedly agree with Megan_B that it is now becoming not only frustrating, but downright ridiculous how the writers are avoiding the magic reveal!

I loved the way they tackled other aspects though. Did anyone else notice a certain similarity of this episode with ep 4x5 (His Father's Son)? In the earlier ep. Arthur catches the husband of Queen Annis on his land, listens to Agravaine's advice (and completely ignores Merlin telling him in a condecending way 'to do what he does best'), kills the king and causes a war. In 5x4 Arthur catches Odin, a king, but listens to Merlin, lets Odin live, and gains an ally. A much better outcome and Arthur gives Merlin credit for it, too (albeit in typical Arthur fashion). TBH I think they actually filmed this scene in exactly the same spot as well!

I really like Mithian. Janet Montgomery was fabulous and played Mithian's inner conflict to perfection, and she is absolutely beautiful. Arthur and Merlin were great to watch in this ep. At the fireside scene, Arthur showed again that he is fine tuned to Merlin's 'moods' and cares about it, too. He takes Merlin and his advice serious and he realizes that Merlin does have 'many talents'.
As for Merlin - oooooohhh Colin. I just love that guy!

  9. 'It makes me wonder if he'll finally use his magic against her in a direct way' Exactly - I was almost screaming at the TV: 'For Goodness sake, get the old witch, Merlin'!
Gaius says at the end that Merlin is more powerful than Morgana. If he is, why does he fails repeatedly to defend himself against her!

  10. Not to mention that I think its making Morgana looks stupid for not being able to do 1+1....Merlin is always the only one who figured out her plans, she never knew how he escaped the scorpion-like creatures in the forest, she got threw in the air a couple of time (only when she's attacking Camelot and/or Arthur directly, never when it's other kingdom) and never guessed who 'Emrys' is? Especially knowing that an aging spell can be use to hide the identity. She's smart, is hearing everything, seeing everything in the show, except that.

In yesterday episode, getting throw by magic, she must know its wasn't Ordin's men (if he had a sorcerer in his rank he wouldn't ask Morgana for help), she must know it can't be Arthur, and it can't be the king or the princess or they would've use magic to defend their kingdom and their own lifes. She must have, at some point, either hear Arthur say ''Merlin!'' and hear Merlin scream to get out of there, he's pretty much the only choice left.

  11. Oh, I see what you mean. But you forget that every character in this show, except for Merlin and Gaius (in this subject at least) are specifically design to be completely clueless about Merlin's magic, to the point of making everyone to dumb to be the great characters of legend (except for Lancelot, he figure it out in 2 sec, that's why he didn't last long), because if someone finds out, it'd mean progress in the story, and we don't want that, right? Noooo, because we must keep the magic secret at all cost, even if that stops Merlin from using it openly to save more lives or to stop Morgana once and for all.

  12. I guess it's a good thing Merlin is lucky enough that everytime his magic is the only thing that can save people is the time that no one is looking and everytime someone's looking, the God of Luck save everyone for him...

  13. God of Luck, I like it. Yep, Merlin definitely has him in his pocket :P

  14. ;P On weekends Merlin let Sir leon borrowed his God, that's why Sir Leon never die

  15. Yeah! Like your comment on Lancelot. He only had to go because he knew Merlin had magic. It is so sad. LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  16. LOL! That's true, but maybe Sir Leon has the God of Immortality in his pocket :D

  17. It's sad indeed, I really liked him. And Merlin needs a friend to know, I vote for Gwain, or maybe the Queen, that'd be interesting...Oh well, I still enjoy the show though, but it's a shame because the show could be a lot better.

  18. Yes! I so hate enjoying it vicariously through all you lucky BBC folks. We will get it ... eventually. *sigh*
