  1. And another wonderful episode! This season keeps getting better and better.

It was great to see Anthony again, not Uther though. That's really a cruel person there. Who else, given a chance to see his beloved son one more time, spends it all to critize him and saying how disappointed he was with him. My heart truely was breaking there with Arthur.
Unfortunately that wasn't even the end. The lovely shot from Season 5 trailer where Arthur turns around (after hearing one nice sentence from his dad!) was actually a reason why Uther's spirit got out from the other side. I'm honestly blaming Gaius for this one! I mean, come on, he knew how it works and didn't tell anyone. Of course Arthur wanted to see his father to say goodbye! Why no warning about no turning around rule?

Things got really creepy when weird stuff started happening in the castle. Nobody destroys the round table! Very rude! And attacking Percival and GWEN! That's just awful! I couldn't believe Uther would go so far with his anger! But when he knocked down Arthur he just crossed every line! But...
Then goes my favorite scene! Uther finding out about Merlin's magic was perfect! And I loved their (short but great) confrontation! Not with very good result for Merlin, though..
Luckily Arthur got to them on time to save him, so that was pretty cool;) And obviously the last LAST words of our departed king: "Merlin has..." Nice timing here;) For Merlin, not us, cause the waiting is killing us even more than usual after this episode!

On the bright side, Arthur truely believes in himself after that and how could we not love all these funny, lovely scenes between him and Merlin. They're basically very much like brothers;)

    * I missed Morgana! I just kinda wanted to see her freak out after seeing Uther's spirit;)
    * “I’ll, ummm, leave you to your poetry then my lord” Haha!

  2. Great write up, I agree with every word! Gaius not mentioning the turn around thing, even just to Merlin by himself.....I couldn't believe it!! (couldn't resist it, sorry :p). Uther's rage was surprising, I guess being dead makes you grouchy, lol. Surely if could see the things Arthur had done since his ascension to the throne, he could see the good that he had achieved? :(

  3. Thanks! ;)
Yes, I can't understand how he could see Arthur "bad" decisions but be completely blind about so many things. Couldn't he like go after Morgana instead, not Arthur, for example? ;) Also, I actually yelled at my screen when Gaius started to critize Merlin about not stopping Arthur. Seriously? The only thing he said was that HE has done it (so it couldn't be so bad!) and it allows you to talk to the spirits of the dead. Which Arthur, (on the anniversery of his father's death!) saw as one last chance to say goodbye.Obviously everything is dangerous, so that was like no warning at all. He could have said so much more!

Okay, I'm just gonna have to go with it. Anyway, can't wait for the new episode! Especially seeing what a great season it is so far!

  4. I really loved this episode. It was full of good suspense and there were very strong performances of all male leads:
Arthur finally managed to resolve unfinished business with Uther. He needed to get past the point of feeling obliged to continue Uther's legacy, so he then will be free to become the Once and Future King. Uther's harsh and unforgiving attitude towards Arthur was hurtful, but it enabled the young king to make a clear cut with the past and move on. Bradley was briliant showing vulnerability, but also a quiet determination to stand his ground.
Uther was at his very 'best' bad behaviour. Anthony was scary indeed in his fury, and it was shocking to see to what lengths he would go to protect what he felt was best for Camelot. However, I am not sure if I can believe that he would actually have killed Arthur - knocking him out okay (LOL, here we go again!) - but what purpose would that have served - who would have ruled Camelot after Arthur? And to my surprise he told Arthur that he loved him just when he vanished back to spirit land. After all the previous action this seemd totally out of place.
And Merlin: I felt that there was a clear sense of total frustration that Merlin cannot reveal to Arthur who he is. When he got the opportunity to 'out' himself to Uther it virtually poured out of him. I loved the fact that Merlin is now in at a stage where he can reciprocate Arthur's 'physical abuse'. Hitting Arthur would not have been on the menu last season at all - Merlin did think about it - but he still did it. Okay Arthur might have returned the favours, but it was done in good humour.
It is also a good sign that Arthur is not only ready to accept druids (Mordred as a knight) but that he was also willing to save a woman who clearly possessed magic. One step at a time towards the reveal!
2 points to ponder about: : 1. Merlin did not need Arthur to save him from Uther. One flick of the eyes would have done it. 2. Uther could have easily caused a lot more damage (killed Percival etc.)
All in all: a great episode with an 'almost' reveal.

  5. I definitely agree wit the one step at a time towards the reveal thing, surely we are looking at that happening this season, it really feels right.

  6. Colin Morgan's performances were outstanding. His scenes with Anthony Head were powerful and showed Merlin frustrated to not be himself since so long because of Uther's unfair laws. I did think Bradley James' acting was too poor in the scenes where Arthur confronts his father. I was waiting for more determination in the acting. Anthony Head was great but very monotone.

Overall a good episode with great moments... But I may repeat myself, when will we see a Merlin focused story arc?

  7. It feels right now and it is totally unimaginable not happening this season.

  8. I was extremely dissapointed because Morgana wasn't in it.The women of the show get less and less screen time just to focus on the " bromance" and I'm getting tired of that. And when they get scenes,it's only about them getting abused or totured I stopped watching for good.
