It would have been better if they'd done research on spinal fusions (the thing that cracked the case for them). Cracked vertebrae usually only get fused when there's nerve damage - which a back brace would do nothing for. Also, the detective's line "What are we looking for?" was moronic. He's a police detective investigating an abduction in one of the largest cities in the world. He should know what to look for.
This series still feels to me like a series based on The Mentalist than a series based on Sherlock Holmes. Which does make some sense since The Mentalist is itself a series based on a modernized Sherlock Holmes type character...
I miss the Conan Doyle characters and characterizations honestly. Those stories and details are what make Holmes Holmes.
The series itself is not bad, but it is honestly more another gimmicky procedural than a Sherlock Holmes detective series... Two episodes is enough to know the series is not for me, but I'm glad others are enjoying it.
Nice flip of the script to make Adam the true villain and another twist to catch him after his immunity deal. Enjoying the injection of humor into the show, and I hope that they do more.
the writer are amazing the twist of these story ..woow ..very shock one the child became a predator and sherlock almost feel but like always find a clue and the bastard is put on jail
I saw the twist of Adam being the real bad guy a mile off. I just thought it was too unbelievable that he'd be driving around on his own and I didn't buy the Stockholm Syndrome excuse as to why Adam wouldn't have just taken the van and ran back to his real family. So he had clearly ebcome the villain or at least an equally guilty party.
Still, an enjoyable episode, and I really like JLM's Holmes. Though I have to admit, as much as I love Lucy Liu, and the banter between Holmes and Watson, she doesn't really have any character of her own. Her only purpose is to aid the characterisation of Sherlock.
I stumbled into watching last nights episode. It was much more interesting than the pilot. But it still feels really light weight to me. I just don't think I should be able to figure out a Sherlock Holmes mystery before Sherlock does. And the Holmes/Watson banter tends toward the annoying. I keep wondering why she doesn't slap him. I think I'm taking this one off my list.
I really liked the first episode. Although it was not nearly as good, in my mind, as the British version of Sherlock, it was pretty good.
This last episode was so predictable that I went out for a coffee half way through and didn't bother recording.
Sometimes I think that when Americans (or anyone else, I say Americans because they do it the most) take shows and American-ize them (let's say Being Human and Sherlock, as examples) they forget that a great part of the story's cohesion rests in their "place" - in the national sensibilities inherent to the story, if you will.
I do think JLM makes a great Sherlock, actually. Just not sure I like this rendition of the story. As you say, it is very Mentalist in nature and not nearly as twisty as I prefer my Sherlock. I want to be astounded by his observations and conclusions ... not beating him to them on scant clues.
I think this will be a "ah, nothing else I really love is on" kind of show for me.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I loved all the villains so far but this episode's bad guy was definitely the best so far.
