Thanks to The Spoiler Fairy for sending us the following..
A major recurring guest star role with an option for next season is being cast, a character named Barrett. He's in his 30s, kind and smart, but also has a very dark side and has beliefs and a way of life that he will fight fiercely to defend.

Its so obviously Bae that its not even funny.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't sound typically like Bae...
ReplyDeleteI thought Bae was the guy we saw in the beginning of the premiere!!
ReplyDeleteIf this is Bae, who the hell was the guy in the premiere?
ReplyDeleteit can't be bae...i'm pretty sure that baelfire was the guy in the beggining of 2x01
ReplyDeleteHmm, Regina/Bae, that sounds intriguing... If they cast a great actor, I'm on board. :)
ReplyDeleteThose are just speculations. Some suggest that he's the White Rabbit from Wonderland.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds exactly like Baelfire - someone who grew up in a magicless world, without any family, while despising his father for his cowardice.
ReplyDeleteMost possible(due to hints) March Hare.
ReplyDeleteThat guy looked way too young if Baelfire is Henry's father. We know from Emma that Henry's father was "way" older than her, thus this casting is more likely to be the case.
ReplyDeleteWell, whoever it is, it's gotta be somebody on this side - I don't think anybody in FTL would have a name like "Barrett".
ReplyDeleteOk, now I am thinking that this new guy is Bae. A kind of similar name, deep beliefs in core values, kindness, intelligence and enough trauma in his life to develop one hell of a dark side.
ReplyDeleteNow who on earth was the guy on 201?
I would be SO into a Regina/Bae pairing. Powerfully magic, abusive parents, screwed over for their ambition. They'd have a lot in common.
ReplyDeleteEspecially if Baelfire is Henry's father.
ReplyDeleteA lot of people are betting on either Peter Pan or White Rabbit(since he was hurrying, his phone could equal his watch and there was a sign "Hatters and Cleaners" in his room and Jefferson Airplane had a song "White Rabbit", while The Cleaners had a song "March Hare")
ReplyDeleteHmm, a lot of people are much smarter than me and have much more attention to detail :)
ReplyDeleteI'll have to check back on Alice in Wonderland, since I remember very little from the story and have no idea who the white rabbit is.
About Peter Pan: would make sense now that Hook is hanging around, I'm just not sure how he'd come into the equation, since all we know is that Rumple is (in the past) after Hook.
Agreed.
ReplyDeleteWell, if Baelfire was already older (12?) when he got into the "portal" and Emma was a newborn, he would be circa 40 now, right?
ReplyDeleteI really, really, really, really, really hope he isn't.
ReplyDeleteMichael Raymond-James is in his 30s (he will be 35 in December) and he looks to be in his 30s. This new character is supposed to be in his 30s too, so an argument that "this casting is more likely to be the case" (of being Bealfire if he is Henry's father) based upon the age of the character doesn't make any sense.
ReplyDeleteyeah i have this hunch that Rumple himself is Peter Pan, well was before marrying and for some reason forsaking all the bravery and shiz.
ReplyDeleteOh, now you got my head spinning. In a good way, that is.
ReplyDeleteThe person could have changed his or her FTL name, like the german Klein became Kline, or Battenberg became Mountbatten.
ReplyDeleteI heard that the show could get permission to do peter pan and that's why they are only having hook on the show.
ReplyDeleteWe don't know that henry's father is way older. Emma hints that she was involved with a married man when she warns mary margette about dave, but that doesn't mean that its henry's father. I doubt emma only ever dated one man.
ReplyDeleteI don't really know how it works, but I guess the copyright over Peter Pan is no longer "valid". If I am not mistaken Disney had been selling Peter Pan stuff for a couple of years now without paying any royalties (read it somewhere).
ReplyDeleteIf i'm not mistaken Disney owns Peter Pan,and most of the fairy tale stories. But honestly its been a long time since i've been up on my fairy tales.I remember watching The Wonderful World Of Disney on Sunday nights when i was a child...
ReplyDeleteHe was 14 when he went into the portal. Remember they were taking kids for the war at 14 and Bae was about to turn 14 in a few days? Also, the timeline is a little weird because Rumpel spend hundreds of years making deals. We see him making a deal with Jiminy while Gepetto was a little boy and then in the pilot, when the curse is activated, we see Gepetto as an old man.
ReplyDeleteIn season 2 we find that everyone in Fairy Tale land was frozen up util Emma broke the curse.
So the question is, have the two worlds always had parallel time or were they connected by the Dark Curse? We don't really know how much time has passed since Bae came to our world. We also don't know how the magic bean works. Was it just a portal to our world or more? How about the wardrobe?
I also don't know he turns out to be Henry's dad. Because Emma said Henry's dad wasn't a great person. One of Bae's defining traits was his sense of right and wrong. He was Rumpel's morality. If both of them were bad, it'd ruin the relationship they had. I think Bae could help his father redeem himself.
ReplyDeleteDisney probably owns Peter Pan, but definetely not the fairy tales. Fairy tales are public domain. I wish I knew who the guy in 2.01 was!!!
ReplyDeleteBae might not be a good person anymore. His own father basically abandoned him and he came through to our world, where he was on his own. He probably ended up in the foster system like Emma and August and I am very sure what Rumple did broke his heart. It may have made him bitter, it may have given him trust issues.
ReplyDeleteEmma herself has bad trust issues and I can easily see how a relationship between two trust challenged people could go bad with both parties involved blaming the other in hindsight. If I remember correctly Emma said with regards to Henry's father that "he was no hero". That can mean many things. I always assumed he broke up with her and left (for whatever reason) and that reinforced her "don't open up to anybody" mentality, which she clearly had when she first came to Storybrooke.
So Bae might still be a good person (with issues), but I am wondering how old he would be. Even assuming that time in our world passes way slower than in fairytale land, Bae was at least 14 when he came through and Emma was a baby when she did.
Given that Emma seems to have grown up at normal speed in our world the indication would be that the same happened to Bae and in effect that means that Bae is at least 14 years older than Emma in our world. Since Emma is 28 that means Bae would have to be at least 42 and therefore neither the mysterious man from 2.01 nor the new person being cast is the right age to actually be Bae, unless for some reason he did not age as he should have...
I think it could be Henry's dad and it could be Bae as well but who knows.
ReplyDeleteYeah, but I think there is a limit of years that something can be under copyright before becoming "public" like older books, art, etc, so I believe that the character Peter Pan may no longer be subject to copyright. I know there was a big discussion about this because the income always went to a hospital in London and they were afraid of the revenue loss some years ago.
ReplyDeleteWe know this about henry's father:
ReplyDelete- He was older than Emma during the affair.
- He was most likely married during the affair(due to Emma's comments about marriage affairs to MM)
- He was "no hero".
So yep, that fits with how i would imagine Bae would be - having grown up in the magicless world without family, blaming his father for cowardice for all his life.
Baelfire just might as well be Charles Widmore of OUAT.
Interesting,thanks!
ReplyDeleteGood call!!!!!!!!XD
ReplyDeleteHmm, you are right! So we really have no idea how old Bae is in the real world today...
ReplyDeleteThe White Rabbit is the one who leads Alice down the rabbit hole in the first book...but in pop culture 'a white rabbit' is the staple note of 'the thing that motivates us' and also then, 'the thing that comes back to haunt us'.
ReplyDeleteIn Lost for example Jack's "proper motivation" is his father and by extension John Locke and by extension "death", as Jack's story is about saving lives, giving life extension, and coming to terms with other's belief in "fate". We can argue that the Island itself and the smoke monster (being a part of the Island) is what pushes for all of these things (This place is Death) with many of the characters. In Eastern Philosophy what westerners may take as "bad" is sometimes not perceived as so, because there is a realization that there has be "something" that moves us to change, or be confronted with our issues (Karma = Dharma = Karma = Dharma, ect)
In Fringe the season 2 promo art shows Olivia in the role of Alice near a big whole in the ground....the white rabbit is wearing a "bell" indicating that Olivia's white rabbit is William Bell, as we learn he becomes our Mr. X in every time line, as it is his work that is inspiring others that put Olivia (and Walter) in a certain deathly situations (and really Olivia's role is similar to Jack's) and may hint at the Observers creation specifically coming from fringe events form and original time line, that have been repeating in various ways int he new iterations...
Wow. One hell of analysis. Thanks for that, but now I am a bit confused because if the person on 2x01 is the white rabbit, than it would be Bae. It does make sense, except for the fact that I had just started thinking that the new character was going to be Bae... oh well.
ReplyDeleteThis show is really keeping me interested in a lot of stuff, but mainly who the hell is Bae and who is Dr. Whale (just read a lot of stuff about Dr. Frankenstein, Dr. Jeckill/Hyde and Peter Pan....very confusing). I'll still have my fun at guessing and reading the deeper observations from other commenters such as yourself while I test my patience and wait for TPTB to end these mysteries :) I am just hoping not to be disappointed.
I am still holding out Whale is Jack in the Beanstalk as origins of JITB seem to lean to The Book of Jonah and/or Jonah and the Whale, let alone The fun Lost parallels (John and Jack) it would have...
ReplyDeleteBut ya I think the white rabbit idea is confusing at this point, if It's Bae, then it makes sense in the some of the ways I thought of, but if It's not, then this character may relate to either older characters more. One's that ultimately come to push the events of the younger generations, or if he's someone new, o a character newly transformered in some way, than maybe he;s a character here to set things in motion more in the now???
I guess we have to wait in see how it all plays out, but hopefully the white rabbit will be a game changer, or at least a meaningful persona. (:
