  1. Um, Charming, I know you're new at this, but why are you leaving your ten year old grandson alone?

    Ooh, Angry!Threatening!Sheriff!Charming is nice.

  2. Henry really is the brains of the operation, without him these fools would truly and literally be lost.

  3. Holy shit, when Charming grabbed Jefferson's cravat... MY SHIP, SHE SAILS. Now I can't wait for Sunday!

  4. So, Jefferson said he's a portal jumper and the hat is his portal. I still don't get why Regina was able to get it to work. Maybe I need to rewatch that Mad Hatter episode from Season 1 again.

  5. I think Emma is magic herself, and that's why she was able to get it to work, tbh.

  6. OHHHHHHHHHHHH
I'm gonna love Charming this season¡

  7. Charming practicing the speech in the mirror
Charming grabbed Mad Hatter by tie. Charming is recovering entire personality. A man without fear, struggling to find his wife and daughter

I love how David/Charming is different from both David and Charming.

he has traits of Charming and at the same time he displays flaws and character traits of David, creating something quite fascinating.

Also David/Charming threatening to lock up Jefferson till he "gets it to work"....oh the irony Charming is unaware of...

Well, frankly what Regina did did not require any precision nor safety.

Regina had to just open any random portal to that exact world - no
need to guarantee safety of travel, nor destination, nor place. A very
    "brute" kind of way

Think of it as a all the other things you can do - a random person could most likely learn how to make a crappy useless sword, but a master weaponsmith would make something that far excels that with less work.

  14. Maybe they don't want to spoil it?

  15. I agree. Regina couldn't work the hat she needed Jefferson when they went to Wonderland or to get the apple. But presumably she did when she went back to FTL with her Dad and left Jefferson behind. Maybe it always goes home and you need Jefferson to make it go somewhere else. But much like where Jefferson went when he flew through the window and how he got back to Storybrooke, I don't think they care to explain all the ins and outs and it is just a plot hole.

  16. I'm going with: because he's in a small town, he's alone all the time anyway, he's always roamed about since day one and Regina never kept track of him, and every fairytale character looks out for him?

  17. I'm not really seeing the "David" in these clips. I'm pretty happy to have Charming back. They need at least one male hero on the show.

  18. Don't be rude to Jefferson, Charming! But I understand, Prince doesn't know him and is really desperate at the moment... But yay, at least he knows where they are, that's a start.
Also aww at Charming&Henry! They are so cute together!

  19. Yeah...Gramps...it's so cute....

Its not a plothole if one can use a common sense to explain it

Jefferson most likely has a complete control of the hat type of magic while other sufficient magic users would most likely be able to do a limited extent of stuff with it, which is why both times Regina went to Jefferson it was about a quite complex dimensional magic.

Traveling back from wonderland, I am guessing does not require you to do anything and hat just activates itself or activated the whole time you are in there -so all regina had to do was walk out with her father.

When Jefferson jumped we heard the hat effect so while the show has yet to explain what happened to him after, its quite clear that Emma-activated magic landed him somewhere else in storybrooke.

David can be very unsure of himself, very nervous and on the edge, the traits that usually are not present in Charming, who is mostly typical "fairytale hero", so this David/Charming seems to be far more tense under pressure, is capable of questioning himself and his capabilities and is just a little bit unsure of himself - all of the traits that David had.

  22. I'm afraid it's not that Regina and Rumple centric. There's too much going on with three stories in three worlds for it to be centric on any character. That's why I'm glad they're not spoiling this story. They may not get that many scenes (although I hope I'm wrong because it's an important story and it would be sad if they wasted this opportunity) and if they spoil half of them in sneak peeks... it's probably better they give out sneak peaks for the other stories.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Regina will have many scenes, don't be worried.
    ;)
But after the season premiere, many fans want to know about Charmings

    ReplyDelete
  24. I think part of his mind is so laser focused on finding the girls and taking care of the town that he forgot he ALSO has this little kid to take care of now. Going from the promos it looks like Regina attempts to grab Henry so Charming will likely blame himself once he finds out. In the future he'll probably be more conscientious about leaving Henry alone.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Why can't Henry be the male hero? Henry got Emma to Storybrooke, Henry got Emma to believe, Henry is the only one who can keep Regina in line to some extent - and Henry is the one giving Charming information in the sneak peek at the apartment, IMO Henry is a hero.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Oh, I understand. I want to know their story too. I'm only afraid there's too much going on in all stories for only episode. Maybe it would have been smarter to put a story that's so important for the backstory of Regina and Rumplestiltskin into an episode where they didn't have to juggle so many important developments at once. They flashback stories can be moved around as they please because they're not told chronologically like the Storybrooke and the Emma/Snow storylines.

  27. He is, but he's like 10.

  28. Charming wasn't that arrogant. He was a shepherd who took on a role. I don't associate those traits with David.

  29. InvestedInYourFuture4 October 2012 at 20:56

Agreed. Henry is the heroic one.

Charming has always been the one who was FORCED by circumstances to play a hero(mainly by George). With Snow he was less of a hero and more a of an ideal man. Post-David he seems to have evolved into multilayered and complex person.

  30. Making up your own solution isn't just common sense. You're operating outside the show to make excuses for something wasn't consistently used or explained...that equals plot hole. I get that you feel incumbent to write out complex explanations for unexplained things, but your rationalizations aren't in the show, they may have an episode later that upends all your well thought out theories. Because all they are are fan theories. Theories to fill in plot holes.

    ReplyDelete
  31. What's safer: leaving a ten year old boy at home or taking him to a person called MAD HATTER?

    ReplyDelete
  32. He kind of forgets everything once he loses Snow. He forgot his mom's life was in danger if he pissed off George too.

    ReplyDelete
  33. How would you know? David never had to do brawny things like Charming is, he was never put under circumstances even close.

    ReplyDelete
  34. InvestedInYourFuture4 October 2012 at 22:04

Making excuses would be assuming that some new character came and solved those problems.

Does the show HAVE to explicitly state every little detail for you? Out of all this the only thing th at needs to be shown is where Jefferson was after jumping out of the window, everything else is common sense.

Shall we go back to the term plot-hole that you so joyfuly
misuse? Plothole is a story detail(or lack of it) that directly
contradicts what was established and is actually impossible to explain through the logical train of thought.

Was it said that hat magic is unique to Jefferson? NO. Was it said that he is very experienced in it? Yes. Put two and two together and the answer is there, via logic. that is if you are paying any attention at all.

And well, excuse me, but I am not guilty that the show actually expects viewers to pay attention to what is happening. Lost/BTVS/BSG writers do not like to spoon-feed you with every little obvious detail.

  35. Well they can both be heroes!!! But you wouldn't expect nor demand Henry to do some of the things Charming has/will have to do. They have different skill sets that work in each of their favors. You can love them both <3

  36. Not true. we will know that story in 2.03 episode.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I understand you. I'm happy with Charming Family story and with Regina&Rumpel story in the other hand. What I don't understand is where we are gonna learn about the new characters. Too many stories.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Well, despite your lovely and kind explanation I'm going to continue to use the term plothole to define a plot device that operates differently depending on different situations or is completely left unexplained...such as what was Starbruck 2.0? Why did the song that her dad taught her have any significance? Those are plot holes. If Regina could use the hat why did she go to Jefferson the second time--he didn't have any magic? Charming goes to him next week, but nobody asks for his help now? If Regina thought all of FTL was destroyed why did she think she could get her apple out? Because Jefferson can apparently jump in both dimension and time? That was a new one, and one that I'm guessing they will drop. Why could Regina operate the hat now? My guess is because they didn't want to bother with or couldn't get Sebastian Stan for the episode. That create a hole where the device no longer followed the originally presented logic, ie, plot hole.

I resent the idea that tying up loose ends is needing something "spoonfed." I expect showrunners to have a comprehensive understanding of their mythology because they created it. It is important for mythological devices to have consistent and straightforward rules or they become deus ex machina for writers to throw whatever crap they need to happen whenever they need it. BTVS didn't use ever changing rules to make the universe happen. When BSG did it, it certainly annoyed the crap out of me, and made me doubt that Moore had any idea what he was doing. Lost is in a different league of massive craziness with inept showrunners who had neither a plan nor a grasp on how to tell a coherent story. If OUAT continues on Lost 2.0 path, I'm outta here. They burned their "we'll explain it eventually" bridge of trust a long time ago.

  39. Well, if you remember from last season, Jefferson was also under the impression that Emma could get the hat to work. So, I'm sure there's something to it and at least the writers are consistent. :)

    ReplyDelete
  40. I'm not discounting Henry's heroic nature. I'm saying it would be nice for the show to have some heroic leading men. Henry is a child. Charming is great but what happened to Frederick and CInderella's prince and did they have to kill off Philip within 20 minutes of meeting him? August sucks, and the sheriff is dead. I'd like a little testosterone.

    ReplyDelete
  41. The only thing stopping Henry from being the stereotypical hero is his age - he has the things that you'd associate with a fairy tale hero - bravery - he ate the apple turnover knowing it was dangerous to prove a point to Emma, determination - to get Emma to believe and faith - his unrelenting faith that the curse was real, that Emma was the saviour and that good would win.
Yeah, Charming is the hero he fights the battles, he's the prince. I think we're going to see more of Henry being a hero.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I think he thought she could make a hat. Like in Wonderland, he needed magic to make the hat. I don't know whether or not she could use the hat. IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Yes, I remember Jefferson needing Emma, but I only remember it being due to Jefferson's (true) belief that Emma is magical. Although one can easily surmise various theories from this, I still hope the writers throw in a line or two to explain that. They managed to explain FTL still existing, and what's been going on there, in only a few lines by Mulan. I'm not asking for a dissertation or to be "hand held". But a throwaway line here or there from Jefferson would be nice.

Thanks to everyone who replied and tried to give an explanation! :)
