A cartoon episode...sorta? Jared and Jensen will be pleased, they'll get some time off and get to do voice overs which I hear they both have enjoyed doing in the past.
-Jeremy Carver adamant that they return to brainiac Sam, smart Sam is back -Dean will be pissed at Sam for not looking for him but don't worry as the season goes on and Dean's lying is brought to the forfront he will start to realise he hasn't exactly been fair to Sam and Sam realises his brother has been giving him a hard time unfairly (basically fans will be pissed at Sam at first then pissed at Dean)-Sam ditched his phones when he quit hunting so he missed Kevin's calls for help-Sam has been living in a small town in Texas with Amelia and a dog called Rocket-Dean and Benny are BFF's, watch out for a hug-Sam is very forthcoming about whats going on with him during the season, Dean not so much-Sam still wants to make things with Amelia and his normal life work but also accepts that he is a hunter and as always puts his all into it-Dean will miss being in Purgatory and will suffer PTSD-episodes 7 and 8 are big ones for Cas-expect lots of Dean for the first 5 or so episodes and things to begin to balance out after that with more Sam-it will take a while for the brothers relationship to get back to what it was, both have changed a lot in their time apart
Wow, the first 5 or 6 episodes will be Dean heavy. What a change. I'd bet money that we won't get 5 or 6 Sam-heavy episodes to balance it out. I'm sure after Dean's episodes we'll go back to what they consider a "balance" which is more Dean / less Sam.
Did you read "The Return of Smart Sam" in a recent interview, tvmonkey? I'm way behind in spoilers. In recent seasons the writers have definitely dumbed down Sam. My mind - as with many Sam fans and "brother fans" - is still reeling with questions like "How possibly could Sam NOT intuit (eventually) that Dean and Cas were whisked to Purgatory when they killed Roman and how Sam COULD NOT have atempted to rescue Kevin - Sam knows how to summon Crowley and show canon dictates both demons AND angels have to appear the proper summoning ritual is used. An intervening act can delay the entity's appearance - in the S7 finale Roman summoned and trapped Crowley before the Winchesters did their ritual - but Crowley still had to appear to Dean and Sam. @ Jess Conner - Sam will probably get his usual 3/4 Sam centric episodes, while Dean gets at least 2x that amount, Cas will likely get as many as Sam and maybe more and even Benny may have a couple and we already know Kevin will play a very prominant role this season. This is not directed at you bur rather is a general statement about these "early spoilers" I know I'm bitter but I have no reason to expect better tratment of Sam from Carver this season;JC had an opportuniy handed to him on a golden platter in SG's finale to have Sam gather his own "hunter army" to mop up the rest of the Levis, mount a rescue of Kevin and use his Sam's own "Smarts" (?) to attempt to rescue Dean (and Cas) or at the very least establish if the duo were alive or dead. JC seems to have not taken it - barring Sam having some myterious reason NOT to have to at least tried to rescue Kevin - but unfortunately by the time any such reasons are revealed - if ANY - Sam's character will have been irrevocably damaged. Why oh why are we starting another season of Sam being regarded - immediately - as the "BAD/SELFISH" brother? Isn't this - as Lucifer!Sam said - "redundant"? JC used "perception" - but "we" don't even know for certain if Sam is the brother we would "perceive: to be in the wrong... because Sam IS wrong regarding Kevin at least. And I repeat myself but if "we" see nosubtle "signs/hints" of a "PLAN" regarding Sam's" inaction" within the first four to six episodes I don't know that I will continue to watch "live" beyond that. I love that Dean has a juicy storyline this season but I dislike Cas so couldn't care less about Cas having juicy sls. But I honestly love Sam more - so if I get no sense of an upcoming strong "Sam sl" (and not that I dislike the sound of Amelia but want more from the Sam/Amelia sl than them just shopping for curtains) from the first half dozen epidodes, I'm bailing on watching live - I'm so tired of being told that the show will get to "Sam stuff" in second half of the season and then getting only a few episodes, and they pretty much all seem designed to "piss off" the fans who aren't sympathetic to Sam.
I agree with everything you said. It pisses me off that we start season after season questioning Sam's choices. Sam WOULD look for Dean. He WOULD summon Crowley for information. He WOULD help Kevin. I just don't see any reason why he wouldn't and if they don't have a really good explanation than I will be letting them know what I think. I'll be even more pissed if Cas is presented sympathetically after what they put Sam through just for being a mortal manipulated by those vicious immoral angels.
I'm hopeful that JC understands the true nature of the angels based on the comment in Death Takes a Holiday in which Tessa warns Dean that the angels are not interested in helping him. I wish they had followed through on that theme.
I believe it is going to be a live action episode with cartoon physics so they shouldn't get time off. I heard that they won't have much of a role in the hand-held camera paranormal type episode though.
A few sites have previewed the premiere. There are links over at The Winchester Family Business: http://www.thewinchesterfamilybusiness.com/to-spoil-or-not-to-spoil/17391-spoilery-articles-for-the-supernatural-season-8-premiere.html
I'm pretty certain TV Monkey's info is from one of those.
Thanks, Jess. I've been on and offline sporadically during the last 6 weeks due to computer issues but IIRC didn't JP say at VanCon that Sam "not looking for Dean" was misinterpreted even though JP, Ben Edlund and Robt Singer (I think) said at ComicCon and a magazine interview that Sam didn't look for Dean because he didn't know where Dean was and Sam was all alone, blah blah blah. I realize that at CC JP only had intimate knowledge of 8.03 but I would ASSume that he had read at least "cocktail napkin" summaries of 8.01/8.02 to make such a "firm" statement at CC, a statement that BE backed up. Even if Sam legitimately thought Dean was dead and did not want to make any more deals or alliances with supernatural entiities - which always end up biting the Winchesters in the ass eventually why on earth would he not try to rescue the resourceful yet terrified teenager Kevin? This "neglect" is even harder to swallow because at least Dean and Cas fully know what they were up against and realize that any day might be their last. Heck, tvmonkey "said" that Sam threw away his phones so missed Kevin's calls. There is no way that I can think of to justify Sam not looking for Kevin, cutting himself out "of the life" abruptly and completely. And - if sometime after ep 10 + - Sam is given "valid" excuses (don't know those could be though) it will be too late for Sam's "core character" and it won't matter to me as more of a Sam than Dean fan if "the worm turns" and it's Dean's turn in the hot seat because i twon't absolve Sam of any of his post S7 finale "inactions". Sadly Cas - IMO - has been treated more sympathetically than Sam since the character was introduced and the icing on the cake was giving Cas Sam's "madness" which of course transferred all the sympathy "we" were (or might be) feeling for Sam to Cas - anytime when you have a showrunner state before the season even starts that "no one is a greater fan of Dean and Cas than I am" - it doesn't give Sam and bibro fans a warm fuzzy. As I said before, I'm glad Dean has an action packed present and flashbacks but I just know in advance that we are expected to want to cuddle poor Cas -stuck-in-Purgatory because JC and Ben E - at least love Cas and I don't.
Please No! I mentioned yesterday that a cartoon episode might be one of the reasons for the green screen thing, but I didn't really believe that it would actually happen; and also No! to the LARPing!
The Real Ghostbusters is my most disliked episode, absolutely cringe-worthy for me and I would hate to add another similar one to it
I want Supernatural to be a great dramatic show, with moments of light-heartedness sure, but not to have it turned into a ridiculous cabaret!
This little rant isn't of course addressed to you personally, Tv monkeyI. :) X I don't know if this is how things will go, but I can say that I don't like any of it.
The whole season starts off on the wrong foot with Sam not looking for his brother and when you build your foundations on shaky ground the whole house will eventually fall. down. The writers can turn things around all they want but the fact remains that Sam didn't bother looking for Dean and went off with this Amelia person and a dog, when he had many ways of finding out where Dean was, Heck he could even have gotten himself into Purgatory to look for him!
So for me the writers just wanted Sam out of the way so they could concentrate on the big Benny/ Castiel / Dean love/hate triangle, which doesn't interest me at all.
Well, I hope for Supernatural's sake that they have bet on the right horse!.
I too agree with everything you have said and while I want both brothers working together and having equal space and importance on the show, there is no doubt that Sam has been neglected and passed over for other guest stars.
I still haven't been able to understand why Sam is so underused, and why the writers seem to prefer concentrating on the Dean character, but I can't believe it's because of Internet popularity polls or anything else; to me that seems just unfounded. X Supernatural was captivating mainly because of the brother dynamic. It was something special and unique even when they argued and were at odds with one another; I'm just not interested in seeing either one paired up with anyone else. X Castiel was bad enough but now we've got Benny too and Amelia plus a dog! Of course, this is the new "mature " SPN. Their caring brotherly bond, and selling their soul for one another was just so infantile!. .
Simply said Castiel has never had to pay the price for any of the evil things he has done and he has done plenty! He is treated by the writers as a poor child who doesn't really know what he is doing, and so we must all understand and forgive his "little" mistakes.
It's a pity that he is an ancient powerful angel, "as big as the Chrysler Building" using his own pride-filled words.
Sam on the other hand has had to pay excessively for every little mistake, that he has made, and yet he has a personal dignity that Castiel completely lacks.. Sam to me is a far more lovable and interesting character than Castiel could ever be!
Dear C P, I don't read those fanfics either. Wincest and slash are not my cup of tea at all!
Then it's certainly not my phrase that will provoke those kinds of stories, but the writers and actors themselves. Yesterday in a post I read that Collins had said that Castiel was a little jealous of Benny's close relationship with Dean; so it's they themselves who are the first to put these sort of ideas into people's heads.
Absolutely. It seems to be a national sport to pair up people in a relationship other than friendship; which is a shame as a true friendship is one of the nicest things you can get. :)
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Nothing spoilery about OUaT.
