Fringe Friday - Off Week Discussion

19 Oct 2012

Welcome to SpoilerTV's weekly edition of Fringe Friday!

[INSERT EPISODE HERE]
Well, it's a weird conundrum we find ourselves in today, folks...There IS no episode of Fringe this week.
However, that will not stop me from posting FRINGE FRIDAY!

Why do I say it's a weird conundrum? Well...it's because we are in the final season and we're probably all restless to see the end, where our characters' fates end up, and we want to enjoy every moment along the way. However, this is also a sort of foreboding reminder that in the very near future there will be no more new Fringe episodes to grace our television screens.

So, that's today's topic: how upset do you think you'll be when Fringe ends? Will you be happy for it to end on its own terms instead of ending after season 2 when the ratings were in the toilet? How do you feel towards FOX now that they have gracefully handled the Fringe ratings situation (by renewing it 3 times past its ratings-based expiration date)? And how much are you upset that we don't have an episode of Fringe to watch on this Fringe Friday?

_______________________________

Keeping it short and sweet since this week's an off week, I have to say that while I found overall I enjoyed The Recordist, it was quite a lull of an episode. The archives were awesome and gorgeously rendered, but it fell flat a bit for me, until the end when we could see them driving through the ravaged city remnants in that old car, with Walter's odd sunglasses...

I really liked the comics that the kid drew, and the one-liner Peter said about his "strong jawline" and like I said, I still enjoyed it...it IS Fringe after all...but it did seem to be missing a bit of "oomph" this past episode. I'm hoping next week, we get back to the serialized, high stakes, big character moments feel that I love so much.

On another note, I have added new songs to the Fringe Friday playlist! Including tracks suggested by readers! So, if you think you know of a song that might be applicable, just let me know in the comments below! I can't promise it'll make the cut, but if it does, you can listen to it along with all the other Fringe Friday spotify subscribers!

Who's ready to get this Fringe Friday underway! Time to break out the licorice and slush-os! (Even if there is no episode to watch tonight!)

PLUS: check out the UPDATED "FRINGE FRIDAY" Playlist!

"Remember the Future, Part 1" - Nektar
"Mystical Machine Gun" - Kula Shaker
"Eyes Without a Face" - Billy Idol (as heard in "Brave New World, part 1 last season)
"High Hopes" - Pink Floyd
"Soon" - My Bloody Valentine
"Violet Rays" - Smashing Pumpkins
"Afraid of Everyone" - The National

(looks like a lot of brooding additions this time around!)

  1. I´m very sad we don´t have an episode today. I guess I´ll be even more sad when the show is over. That sense of loss I got at at the end of Lost, or Smallville. This show was a constant for me for a while, I'll miss it a lot. And none of my friends watch it, unlike SV or Lost, so it will probably be even worse.

And I also loved the comic. I wonder if we'll be seeing more of them (not on the show, there's no time for that, IMO).

  2. Well I am someone who has been pretty happy with the way Bad Robot shows tend to end. There's always something bittersweet in those ending, something painstalkingly tragic like the Deaths of the Jacks (Bristow/Sheppherd), but also various silver linings usually portraying a hopeful future and/or life extention.

Alias: Does anyone really believe the CIA or DSR (Division of Special Research) wouldn't have excavated Rambaldi's tomb in which either Sloane or Jack could have still been alive do to the Rambaldi's life elixir, let alone Dixon wants Sydney to return to the CIA after a few years off...

Lost: Most the characters may have died on the Island, but besides saving some of the members of their current time line, providing a future for them by saving the Island, did they also provide futures beyond one time line, as they experienced a plane between two corporeal lives upon death, as dead wasn't the end on Lost, but a bridge of transformation.Life, death, and rebirth---> See you the next life, Brotha!

Felicity: 3 different timelines in which the one she lastly returns to, is not the one she left from, as her friend Alaina who had died prior to any time traveling, appears alive and with her former fiance'e Tracey at Noel's wedding during the final scenes.

I feel fairly certain we will see a lot of death, but I also think we are going to end in yet another future/time line, in happier place. -Hopefully left to wonder what the rest of the lives of these people might be like...

PS: thanks for adding some of those crazy tunes to the playlist, Wilson! (:

    Happy Not-Fringe Friday Everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. I've become used to the idea that Fringe will soon end. I'll be missing it for a long time though, there's a lot of good memories. I have to say thanks to Fox for not pulling it when ratings fell. Over the years I've seen a lot of good shows yanked mid-season due to poor ratings. I wish

  7. Obviously I'll be sad to see Fringe end. Angry? Certainly not at Fox. We were lucky to get a fourth season, let alone a fifth. I remember thinking last season that if they renewed again, they better announce that it's going to be the final season, because if they keep tempting fate the show will get cancelled without an ending.
