Supernatural - Ultimate Episode Round 3H - Polls
Sep 19, 2012
Polls SupernaturalToday marks the last polls of round 3. Forgive the numbers nerd in me but our last polls netted almost identical results. The French Mistake beat All Hell Breaks Loose, Part 1 with 136 to 102 votes. Meet the New Boss beat It's a Terrible Life 135 to 102. Can't wait to see how they do against each other. Of course that also made it hard to determine which losing episode would be spotlighted today. In the end I went with It's a Terrible Life because it had a slightly bigger percentage of votes.
Today's polls marks the third time in this short round where I would rather see both episodes in one poll advance than any in the other poll. It's going to be a tough ender for round 3. Speaking of round 4, I've added a general poll to the end. Originally I was going to do each poll separately from round 4 on so there would only be one poll per day instead of 2. Lately however I've been thinking about combining round 4 like we have been (2 polls per day) and starting single polls in round 5. I wanted to get your feedback. If we do single polls from here on out, the contest will last 15 more days and end on October 3. If we double up this round, the contest will last 11 days and end on September 29. We could also speed round it with all polls for a round being on the same day. This way the contest will last 4 more days and end on Saturday. Voice your choice and don't forget to nominate Lucifer Rising quotes. Happy voting!

I find both In My Time of Dying and Hello, Cruel World to be vastly superior to either Born Under a Bad Sign or Point of No Return. However if I have to choose I'm going with IMToD. There was so much perfect in this episode not the least of which, it ended the longest hellatus of my life and the reason the word hellatus itself was coined. The one-liners and snark almost rival the pilot, the brother moments are outstanding, they had the courage to kill off John, and it kick started the best SPN season of them all. It's hard to top this episode. However Hello, Cruel World does have what may be the best brother scene of them all with the warehouse scene. My other vote goes to Born Under a Bad Sign. I find the middle a little boring in the rewatch but the ending well makes up for it. Possessed Sam was great, I thought Jo was amazing for the first time, and Dean refusing to shoot Sam was awesome even though Possessed Sam shot Dean. Point of No Return is far too depressing although it gets bonus points for killing Zachariah.
ReplyDeleteWas that your exclamation of joy I heard when you found out there'll be a whole new gaggle of angels to deal with?
ReplyDeleteI find it refreshingly strange that so many people like and dislike certain episodes for so many different reasons.
ReplyDeleteMy hat is off to each and every one of you for both making my days enjoyable and being so fervent in your beliefs about this show.
Oh there was definitely an exclamation. :-P Can't believe they are making one of my favorite sci fi actresses the one thing I never want to see again on Supernatural. If I didn't know Carver was running the show, I would swear I had been Kripked again!
ReplyDeleteI can only hope that they come through the way Gabriel was depicted in the movie Legion. Big Morningstar, big wings that shoot blades and big attitude.
ReplyDeleteThese polls are tough.
ReplyDeleteFor the first, I'm going to have to go with In My Timr of Dieing. Tessa was so much different than the last reaper we saw, we got to see John die, and I'm pretty sure Dean had been about to go with Tessa before the YED brought him back. Hello, Cruel World was good, though I like 7x1 and 7x2 paired up together. Back to back.
As for the second poll, this one is harder, but I'll have to go with Point of No Return. Jared acting was superb in Born Under A Bad Sign, but I loved seeing Adam again, Castiel's looks of betrayal, him beating up Dean, the (failed) rescue scene. I really liked that episode.
In My Time of Dying and Born Under a Bad Sign
ReplyDeletePretty easy choices for me.
1. In My Time Of Dying - For Season 7 Hello Cruel World was great, but for overall show, IMTOD is better quality to me.
ReplyDelete2. Point Of No Return - Again, I labeled it officially as my favorite episode of all time of SPN so why wouldn't I vote for it? Born Under A Bad Sign was a great Season 2 episode though. I'll be disappointed if PONR loses, but it's not like it would lose to an episode I hate.
I loved Michael in that movie. Loved the scene where he and Gabriel fight and Michael dies. 2 of the only real reasons I bought the movie. lol
ReplyDeleteConfession - I've never seen Legion. Is that the one with the blonde kid from Vampire Diaries in it? More importantly, is the movie worth my time?
ReplyDeleteLucifer Rising Quotes:
ReplyDelete15. Demon: "Look at you all 'roided up. It's like A-Rod and Madonna over here."14. Zach: "Let us worry about that. We want you focused. Relaxed." Dean: "Well I'm about to be p** and leaving so start talking Chuckles." 13. Sam: "Oh my God." Ruby: "Guess again. You don't even know how hard this was. All the demons out for my head. No one knew. I was the best of those SOB's, the most loyal. Not even Alastair knew. Only Lilith. Yeah I'm sure you're a little angry right now but I mean come on Sam. Even you have to admit, I'm…I'm awesome!"12. Cas: "I do that, we will all be hunted. We'll all be killed." Dean: "If there's anything worth dying for, this is it. You spineless, soulless SOB. What do you care about dying? You're already dead. We're done."11. Chuck: "Yeah but you guys aren't supposed to be there. You're not in this story." Cas: "Yeah well, we're making it up as we go."10. Zach: "Why not? The Apocalypse. Poor name, bad marketing. It puts people off when all it is is Ali-Foreman on a slightly larger scale and we like our chances. When our side wins, and we will, it's paradise on earth. What's not to like about that?"9. Cas: "You can't reach him Dean. You're outside your coverage zone." 8. Cas: "Lilith is the final seal. She dies, the end begins."7. Ruby: "No, it wasn't the blood. It was you and your choices. I just gave you the options and you chose the right path every time. You didn't need the feather to fly. You had it in you the whole time Dumbo."6. Sam: "I've been waiting for this for a very long time." Lilith: "Then give me your best shot."5. Zach: "All the seals have fallen except one." Dean: "That's an impressive score. That's right up there with the Washington Generals."4. Ruby: "Well it's good enough for me. Let's pack up Nurse Betty and hit the road."3. Cas: "What's so worth saving? I see nothing but pain here. I see inside you. I see your guilt, your anger, confusion. In paradise all is forgiven. You'll be at peace even with Sam." Dean: "You can take your peace and shove it up your lily-white a** cause I'll take the pain and the guilt. I'll even take Sam as is. It's a lot better than being some Stepford b** in paradise."2. Dean: "Well how about this, the Suite Life of Zach and Cas."1. Ruby: "You're too late." Dean: "I don't care."
In my time of Dying is perfection. HCW is good too.
ReplyDeleteAnd Point of no Return is a top episode. No contest there.
In My Time of Dying - easy choice. I love this episode more than any other and it's my #1 and leads off what is my favorite season of SPN. I also love Hello, Cruel World (best of season 7 for sure) but it can't compare, in my opinion, to In My Time of Dying. So much love for that premiere. SO MUCH.
ReplyDeletePoint of No Return in the second poll. Even though it's dark and angsty out the butt, I love it. I have never really enjoyed Born Under a Bad Sign all that much. It's good, but I really have no other feelings towards it...other than when Dean refuses to kill Sam. I love that moment a lot. lol. oh, dean.
It has Adrienne Palicki, Dennis Quaid, Kate Walsh, Jon Tenney, Charles S Dutton, Lucas Black and Tyrese Gibson. It's dark, about Michael falling from grace and Gabriel coming at him guns-a-blazin to make sure the baby doesn't get born.
ReplyDeleteI think it is worth it for the flashbacks showing us the relationship between the two angels, the word of god written as tattoos on one's skin and the MULTITUDE of angels set to go to war.
Not a great movie but I watch whenever it is on for those scenes. And two of my favorite actors, Charles S Dutton and Dennis Quaid.
Definitely. Michael has the "do it my way and like it or do it my way" attitude.
ReplyDeleteAnd, of course, the guy in the ice cream truck.
In My Time of Dying & Born Under A Bad Sign. The first one had so many good brother moments, Sam being so happy when Dean said YES on the board, John dying and even though I did not know what John said to Dean, I just knew it was not good. Born Under is my pick for the awesome job Jared did as Sam/Meg, do love Sam when he is bad.
ReplyDeleteThat was creepy. I'm not much of a fan of creepy. Shocker. Supernatural is not scary/creepy. It is however, very gross at times. Lucky I love the show and it's not gross often. XI
ReplyDeleteThe creepy stuff is that kind of anticipatory horror that goes on as the scene plays out. The Winchesters are bound by emotion and that's how their violence usually plays out on the screen.
ReplyDeleteThe Frank Devereaux bloody RV is one of those creepy scenes. And then you have Bobby and the Leviathan in the basement having a wise-ass-a-thon while he's trying to figure how to kill it.
Classic!
It's creepy, eerie, but not creepy, creepy. I don't shiver from creepiness.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty immune to the flying blood by now- more concerned about who lives and dies then how scary/creepy something was.
Only thing is gross stuff and rarely, if something pops up and I'll flinch if it's too sudden and the anticipation was up.
Nothing that makes me look over my shoulder after watching it, like some horror movies do.
I love the wise-ass-a-thon! lol I did not find that creepy at all.
Ha that's pretty much how I feel. I watch for the angel scenes. Minus the demon angels. Little too creepy for me. :P
ReplyDeletein my time of dying and point of no return!:)
ReplyDeleteSome hard choices again today as I like all of these episodes. I prefer both episodes in the first poll to either in the second and choosing between in my time of dying and hello cruel world was very hard as they are both brilliant episodes.
ReplyDeleteI ended up just going with the guy and voted in my time of dying and point of no return
..the first poll easy In my time..but the second.tough choice i love both episode ..MY OTHER FAVORITE POINT OF NO RETURN
ReplyDeleteFirst poll is brutal. Both In My Time of Dying and Hello, Cruel World are outstanding episodes and both definitely better than either of the poll 2 episodes. And we have to see one of them go already? No fair!
ReplyDeleteI voted for Hello, Cruel World just to give the episode some love before we say goodbye to it (I'm sure IMToD will win). It's by far my favourite episode of season 7 and it's only bad luck that it had to go against one of Supernatural's best ever. I actually don't know which one I like more. I have a huge sentiment for IMToD, love it to pieces, but for a fresh episode, Hello, Cruel World is very high on my best ever list. It's actually my favourite of all episodes after The End, so of almost three seasons.
Second poll, Point of No Return, although I do not have any particular love for either of the episodes. They're both good, but not outstanding.
Lucifer Rising quotes:
#4
Dean: I'm still pissed, and I owe you a serious beatdown, but...I
shouldn't have said what I said. I'm not dad. We're brothers, you know,
we're family, and no matter how bad it gets, that doesn't change.
Sammy I'm sorry.
#3
Dean: Destiny? Don't give me that holy crap. Destiny, God's
plan... It's all a bunch of lies, you poor, stupid son of a bitch! It's
just a way for your bosses to keep me and keep you in line! You know
what's real? People, families - that's real. And you're gonna watch them
all burn?Castiel: What is so worth saving?! I see nothing but pain
here. I see inside you, I see your guilt, your anger, confusion. In
paradise, all is forgiven. You'll be at peace. Even with Sam.Dean: You can take your peace... and shove it up your
lily-white ass. 'Cause I'll take the pain and the guilt. I'll even take
Sam as is. It's a lot better than being some Stepford bitch in Paradise.
#2
Castiel: I do that, we will all be hunted! We'll all be killed!Dean: If there is anything worth dying for, this is it.
#1
Dean: How about this? The Suite Life of Zach and Cas.
I don't find it creepy at all, and I like scary, the kind where you are waiting for something to jump out at you and for me Asylum was the scariest ep EVER in the series. I have a friend that will not watch this show at night, yep another weird friend. lol
ReplyDelete2 of my favorite eps of all time. Point of No Return and Hello, Cruel World. They are both easily in my top 5. Jared was at his absolute best in Hello, Cruel World and Jensen was stellar in that final scene with Zachariah in Point of No Return.
ReplyDeleteI'm also pretty sure that Dean was about to go with Tessa. Sometimes when i rewatch episode i wish that YED wait few seconds and i can see or i'm right about Deans decision.
ReplyDeleteIn first poll easy choice - In My Time of Dying (it's not much episoses who can make me vote against IMTOD) In second Point of No Return, because Sam believed in Dean when he was about to give up, Dean kills Zachariah.
ReplyDeleteQuotes:
Dean: "I'm still pissed, and I owe you a serious beatdown, but...I
shouldn't have said what I said. I'm not dad. We're brothers, you know,
we're family, and no matter how bad it gets, that doesn't change. Sammy
I'm sorry."
(sad that Sam not get message, that someone changed).
Dean: "Destiny? Don't give me that holy crap. Destiny, God's plan... It's
all a bunch of lies, you poor, stupid son of a bitch! It's just a way
for your bosses to keep me and keep you in line! You know what's real?
People, families - that's real. And you're gonna watch them
all burn?" Castiel:
"What is so worth saving?! I see nothing but pain here. I see inside
you, I see your guilt, your anger, confusion. In paradise, all is
forgiven. You'll be at peace. Even with Sam." Dean: "You can take your
peace... and shove it up your lily-white ass. 'Cause I'll take the pain
and the guilt. I'll even take Sam as is. It's a lot better than being
some Stepford bitch in Paradise."
I forgot about this:
ReplyDeleteChuck: You guys aren't supposed to be there, you're not in this story.
Castiel: Yeah, well... we're making it up as we go.
Supernatural definitely has something for everyone, no matter how varied they are in tastes.
ReplyDeleteConsider me agreed too. It's in his eyes for me.
ReplyDeleteI would have for the YED to wait until Dean said 'okay, let's go' or something, before pulling him back. I just like to have it comfirmed.
ReplyDeletePaul Bettany, don't forget Paul Bettany!
ReplyDeleteI never liked horror. That is why I didn't watch Supernatural at first. It was only because i was bored and my parents were watching the Season 1 finale that I did too. Realized it wasn't that spooky. :P
