Supernatural - Ultimate Episode Round 3D - Polls

Sep 15, 2012

Well looks like I was wrong again. Neither poll was close at all. Changing Channels and The Monster at the End of This Book blew away Jus in Bello and I Know What You Did Last Summer. In fact they got nearly an identical number of votes. Should make their poll against each other one to watch. Today we continue with more heavy hitters. Again the results ought to make for an interesting round 4. Don't forget to nominate quotes from TMatEotB today too. In fact, you can still nominate for any season 1-4 episode. Just click on the links below. Happy voting!

  1. Easy day for me. All Hell Breaks Loose, Part 2 is in my top 5 episodes. Not much could make me vote against it. This gutsy episodes was action-packed, killed the main villain, brought back Ellen, and neatly ended an entire storyline. Every part of this episode was satisfying and it still made me want more. I love how they not only killed off YED but then they also didn't leave Dean's deal hanging over the hellatus like I was afraid they might. This is the perfect combination of emoangsty with action, family with mytharc. It's an episode I have watched over 100 times and it never gets old. Dean's monologue over Sam's dead body is still one of the finest pieces of acting in this show's history. There is really something for everyone in this episode.

The End is another in my top 5. I loved the Pilot, don't get me wrong. After all, it has more snark per minute than possibly any other show. If at least 1 pilot quote isn't in the final 4 of the quotes contest it will be a travesty of voting. However, the pure adrenaline ride that was The End surpasses the original and almost every other episode out there. It had to be a difficult one to both write and act since the characters in the future were quite different but they never rang untrue to me.

  2. Discqus is going wonky so I'll try to post again.

  3. Geez... A match between my favorites episodes. Took a time for me to decide between AHBL and Dark Side of the Moon. The second is one of the most beautiful and emotional episodes, but I chose AHBL. The whole episode is perfect and finishes the 1st part of Sam and Dean`s lives... I don't know if u understand me, but...

I didn't have this problem with the 2nd match, because The End is perfect and even the Pilot being important, it can't compete with Lucifer!Sam and Future!DeanXPresent!Dean. XD

    ReplyDelete
  4. I know exactly what you mean. AHBL2 was the perfect resolution to chapter 1 of the Winchester/Supernatural saga. When it first aired I just knew YED was going to get away. It seemed too early to kill off such a huge story. I figured we were in for a tease right before he smoked out and slipped away. I was stunned when Dean shot and killed Azazael. The fact that they had the Dean going to hell storyline to move into the next chapter let me know that Kripke knew what he was doing and I could trust him in a way I do very few genre show creators.

  5. All Hell Breaks Loose pt II, and The Pilot.

I love Dark Side of the Moon, but it has a few more flaws than AHBLptII, and the latter is pretty damn near perfect. So, AHBLpt.II.

The Pilot because, while I liked The End, it just doesn't wow me. I'll watch it happily if it's on, but it's never one I would choose to watch for any reason other than it's the next one in my series rewatch. The Pilot, however, I will watch over and over and over just because. And as I've said in previous comments, I love origin stories, so The Pilot (and a lot of season 1) get's bonus points for being an awesome origin story.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Perfect! That's what I think. A perfect resolution. I love that was Dean who killed Azazel... even this was right. Well, 2nd season is my favourite, so... XD

    ReplyDelete
  7. Season 2 is my favorite too. Makes me nostalgic thinking of it. May need to do a season 2 marathon before season 8 begins.

    ReplyDelete
  8. It was a darn good pilot and these days it's hard to find a pilot that hooks you so hard you can't imagine not watching the next episode. It's a beautiful little horror story wrapped in a family saga and that got my attention right away.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Once I became infirmed I was able to do only a few things; read, write, surf the web, watch TV. Saw Supernatural was on twice daily on TNT but never watched. One day while flipping channels I stopped and watched a few minutes of an episode in a cemetery with what can only be described as all hell breaking loose. Then I watched as a gun was fired and a glowing bullet spun its way into the upper chest of a man with yellow eyes. From then on I was hooked. Even though DSOTM has the fireworks scene and my favorite line from Joshua I've got to go with All Hell Breaks Loose Part 2.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Wow! You had the great fortune to come in on a spectacular episode. AHBL2 is certainly a highlight.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Really not that difficult for me today.

    AHBL2
The End - The Pilot got me here, but because some of the story hadn't yet been told there are eps that are just full of so much more stuff....And that's what let me to pick the End. There was just so much more to this ep than the Pilot.

    ReplyDelete
  12. This one is easy for me. AHBLP2 and The End.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Oh no, don't make me choose between these two!
All Hell Breaks loose ties together what had been driving the boys for the past 22 years. The yellow eyed demon was dead, as were the special children. All Hell Breaks Loose had no cliffhanger ending, but I did like that it ended like The Pilot ended. The only thing keeping me from voting for it is the fact that it is up against Dark Side of the Moon. It nearly broke my heart to see Cas lose faith and Dean in turn, lose hope.I loved Dean's memory of Mary. Over all, I really liked it, enough to vote over the season two finale.
I'm not sure if the second poll is just as hard, or harder. I loved The End, especialy Dean's scene with Lucifer/Sam. Seeing how cold Dean would become in the future, learning what happened in the future, Chuck [Chuck is always a pleasure to see] and Dean telling Cas to "never change"... Point being, I loved this episode, The Pilot may have intruduced us to Dean and Sam, their world and their relationship with each other, but I have to go with The End.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Couldn't agree with you more about AHBL. Especially the part about Dean's deal! I was so afraid that'd be some big secret for like half of the following season and I was so thrilled when it came out before the episode even ended! It's an amazing episode in a near flawless season of TV.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Dark Side of the Moon, is in my top ten, loved every thing about it. Liked the idea of Heaven being what ever you want, liked how Sam and Dean had way different thought about family.

The End is also in my top ten, at least I will not have it going up against DSotM. ;) Jared blew me away as Lucifer, he almost was my favorite part. Liked the 2 Deans and loved hippie Cas and Chuck.

Off Topic: I have a new baby Fox squirrel, named him Sammy. Bobby & Ellen are Grey squirrels.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I am not a huge fan of either of the first two. Both kind of break my heart... but at this moment i will pick AHBL2.

For the second set, it is easy for me. The End is one of my 5 least watched episodes. I don't hate it, but it moves so slow through some parts that I can't take it too often. It even dragged the first time I watched it. It takes way too much time to get to the camp and I will just drop my other comments because it drives me nuts when other people cut on episodes that I love.

However, I love the Pilot. The slow parts are few and far between. There is tons of brotherly interaction and that is my favorite kind of episode.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Yep, knew this would get harder real quick. Loved the scene in AHBL2 of Dean talking to dead Sam, the scene with the Crossroads demon and Bobby and Dean in the junkyard, not to mention shooting the YED. The entire episode was so well crafted and acted it is still a pleasure to watch. On the other hand, DSotM is still one of my all-time favorites. I love their bop thru memories as well as Zachariah's glee in trying to snare them. Another wonderful ep. Gonna have to go with the underdog and throw my vote to DSotM in this one.

As for the second contest, I absolutely love the pilot and always will. It is the episode that completely hooked me and trapped me in Winchester world forever, but the two Deans and the lessons taught about family and trust in The End made it a superior episode in my opinion. Gotta go with The End. It is rather amusing how The End and the Pilot ended up against each other. The only thing better would be In the Beginning and The End. :)

    ReplyDelete
  18. 1. All Hell Breaks Loose Part 2 - yes I finally vote against Dark Side Of The Moon. AHBL part 2 was amazing. So emotional throughout and I loved Azazel's death and John's silent good bye to the boys.

    2. The End- The Pilot was great and all, as it was the start of it all, but The End was fantastic. Lots of action and heartbreaking stuff there. There was some great scenes between Cas and Dean, both in future and present and some funny quotes. Then of course, I loved Dean reuniting with Sam.

Honestly, The End is one of the episodes in my top 3 I'll be rooting for.

  19. All Hell Breaks Loose, Part 2 and The Pilot. Once again the Pilot comes up against "The End", kind of symbolic :)

  20. All Hell Breaks Loose, Part 2 and The End.

    Quotes:

Dean: "I reiterate, freaking insane. Oh check it out. There's
actually fans. There's not many of them, but still did you read this?"
Sam: "Yep." Dean: "Although for fans they sure do complain a lot."

Chuck: "Did you really have to live through the Bugs?" Dean:
"Yeah." Chuck: "What about the ghost ship?" Dean: "Yes that too."
Chuck: "I am so sorry. I mean horror's one thing but to be forced to
live bad writing that…I…if I had known it was real, I would have done
    another pass."

    ReplyDelete
  21. All Hell Breaks Loose Pt 2 of course. I had to go with The End. I loved all four of these.

    Quotes:

    1. Dean: "They do know we're brothers right." Sam: "Doesn't seem to matter." Dean: "Oh come on. That…that's just sick."
    2. Dean: "I reiterate, freaking insane. Oh check it out. There's actually fans. There's not many of them, but still did you read this?" Sam: "Yep." Dean: "Although for fans they sure do complain a lot."

  22. I'm rewatching from the beggining and I just started season 2! XD

    ReplyDelete
  23. I fell for Supernatural the same way... changing channels... But the episode I first watched was Bloody Mary! XD

    ReplyDelete
  24. That's one of the reasons why I am hopeful for Revolution. Kripke rarely strings his audience out forever on a secret until you know longer care what it is. He lets the story play out quickly compared to most genre shows and builds new arcs as he finishes old ones. If that continues to be the pattern with Revolution, I think I'm going to really like it.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Lucky you. I just started season 5, which while not being near as good as season 2, is at least better than season 4 which took me since May to get through.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I feel the same way. I really like the pilot and I am of course grateful to it for starting the series I love. However there has never been a series where I have loved the pilot best. I like SPN's pilot better than most but I'm glad the show continued going up from there to reach bigger heights.

    ReplyDelete
  27. HBL2 was a bit strange for a finale in that it could have been used as the series finale instead of the season 2 finale. I think Kripke designed it that way because they weren't positive they were going to be renewed until late.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I was laughing last round when The End and the pilot won. Never even thought about In the Beginning. That would have been perfect.

    ReplyDelete
  29. That is one of my favorite Chuck quotes. This was a meta reference I really enjoyed in a metasode I didn't. I also use Dean's quote at least once a month. I would say it's gotten worse since season 4 and I love how the PTB pointed it out that SPN fans are the biggest complainers in TV fandom while still defending their show to the death.

    ReplyDelete
  30. There were some good episodes to choose from this round. As for quotes, I had the same reaction as Dean in both instances.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I love how they named the fourth episode of the season The End. You'd expect it to be a finale instead.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I am also looking forward to this series, Kripke for me is like Whedon, I like anything he does.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I totally agree, and it'd be so sweet if people knew this! lol. I think the fact that the advertising for the show is propping up JJ Abrams as Exec Producer is giving it a bad rap! JJ was only directly involved in the first few seasons of LOST, then it became Damon and Carlton's baby, and Revolution is all Kripke (hell, he wrote the first six episodes!). I think people who hate on LOST now because it's the cool thing to do (not me, still among my fav shows ever) are not going to give Revolution a chance. The pilot (of Revolution) was decent, and I think the show has so much promise, I can't wait for it! I just hope NBC gives it some time to grow, and I hope people can look past the Bad Robot production Co. association. Sorry, I've been stewing on this for awhile now.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I love all of these choices. Went with all hell breaks loose part two and the pilot. Although I also really wanted to vote for then end so I don't mind whichever wins

    ReplyDelete
  35. I am anti-LOST but I have been since season 2 so it's nothing recent or cool for me. As such, I was worried about the JJ Abrams advertising promotion too. However I think that is why almost every single early interview and especially the stuff around Comic-Con made a point to stress that there would be answers coming right from the beginning. It was like they were making a point to say that Revolution would be more Kripke than Abrams and that's why I am excited about its potential.

I think the usual genre people who avoid Revolution will instead be people who are tired of their favorite genre shows being cancelled early and therefore will not watch until they know it will get a second season. The trouble with this self-fulfilling philosophy is that it almost guarantees shows WILL be canceled. After all if the genre loving people aren't watching and promoting the show, who will? I honestly think that Revolution is the most important show that will premiere this year. Not because of the show itself per se, but because it is a genre show that got a lot of promotion. If this show fails after NBC pulled out all the stops in advertising it, then I think it will be a long time before we see real sci fi on network TV again. Sure we'll see some fantasy and supernatural romance, but after the Terra Nova failure, Revolution is the last great hope for sci fi lovers that doesn't include a cable bill or Netflix.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Whedon is hit or miss for me but the hits I adore with a passion (Buffy, Dr. Horrible, Angel) while the misses are merely okay. I rarely hate anything he does.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Didn't you like Firefly? I put it after Buffy and before Angel, LOVED Firefly, my favorite ep was Out of Gas.

    ReplyDelete
  38. That's my fav too! And War Stories. Ah, Firefly!!!! So good! :D

    ReplyDelete
  39. Poor LOST! :( So you watched in real time? For me, LOST was all about the characters (JACK!) and I didn't care so much about the mystery of the island or the hatch or whatever. So if Revolution can be that (and from what I hear they are saying it is) and answer some (or all) of it's mysterious questions, then it'll be amazing for me. Hopefully the network lets Kripke do his thing, and hopefully they can see the success (even if it's not reflected in Nielson ratings) of Supernatural during his reign there and give him more than one season if the show ends up on the bubble.

You're likely right about genre people being hesitant. But really, of the recent genre shows that have failed, were any of them really any good? I never watched Terra Nova (was it a network or cable show?), but the ones that came out right after LOST ended were mostly bad. I also feel like it might have been to NBC's benefit NOT to tout JJ Abrams name all over the show. I think, as I said above, it's having the opposite effect of what they hoped for. Oh well, I guess we'll see! I'll be watching, that's for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  40. For me there just was not a bad ep of FF, dang Fox for showing it out of order..

    ReplyDelete
  41. Firefly was merely okay to me. Better than some of his other work but not close to Buffy or Dr. Horrible.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I didn't watch until 2005, after it was released on DVD. But yeah, I could see how watching out of order would completely negate any of the awesome storytelling! Boo, FOX. :(

    ReplyDelete
  43. I watched season 1 on DVD and season 2 real time. I only liked a couple of the characters and almost none of the major characters. I absolutely loathed Locke. They kept killing off/focusing on the wrong people to me.

I like how Revolution combines the large cast of LOST with the traveling from one place to another of Supernatural. This way I won't likely get tired of the people and the plot is always moving, literally. If it follows Kripke's plan of a question answered before a new question asked, then I hope to not be frustrated by the pacing like I was with LOST and sometimes Fringe.

As for Terra Nova, I liked it but it suffered from pacing, casting, and focus. It wanted to focus on the family when everyone I knew who watched it wanted it to focus on the location and mystery. Nothing like annoying brats and their ineffectual parents to kill the best concepts. If the main family had been eaten by dinosaurs in the second episode, it might have returned this season.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Ugh. I loathed Locke too. There was some misdirection in the middle of LOST, but I still loved it so much, even when it hurt my heart (season 3, ugh).

Yes, I like the travelling aspect too! I have a lot of questions about the show and what it'll do/where it'll go, but obviously I should wait and watch more than the pilot before I start asking a million things. ha. It's been so long since I've watched anything new in real-time on television that I've forgotten how it works.

That's right! Terra Nova had the dinosaurs - people traveled back in time from a nearly post-Apocalyptic Earth, right? I remember seeing ads for it and wanting to watch, but then I don't why I never did.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I try any genre, but Terra Nova was so bad I was pulling for the dinos to eat everyone. I only started watching Lost when it was in its last season, but did not watch any of it live. I got interested when I found out Ian Somerhalder was in it and bought DVDs. I loved it, maybe because I was not having to wait for eps.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Count yourself lucky that you missed Terra Nova, was a waste of time I could have been re-watching SPN. lol

    ReplyDelete
  47. oh my goodness, I was obsessed with LOST from the moment the Pilot aired! I love that show - still do!!!
