Supernatural - Ultimate Episode Round 3A - Polls
12 Sept 2012
Polls SupernaturalWelcome to round three as we get closer to naming one Supernatural episode the best of them all. Of the 149 episodes that have aired so far, 128 made it into the contest through a nominating and wildcard poll process. Of those 128, only 32 remain including Born Under a Bad Sign and Point of No Return which beat Hell House and Tall Tales.. Hopefully many of your favorites made it to round 3. In eight days, we'll know which 16 will be in round 4. Voting is likely to be harder from here on out as the best of the best remain. Today is no exception. Thanks to all who have participated and to everyone who has commented. The goal was to pass the hellatus together talking about Supernatural and boy have we had some great discussions. Hellatus ends 3 weeks from tomorrow - yippee! - and by then we will have crowned our winner. Happy voting and don't forget to nominate your favorite quotes from Death Takes a Holiday.
PS - The results page is now updated with where episodes ranked after round 2.

Welcome everybody to round three. I hope you are having fun. Rounds should fly by now as there are fewer episodes still in. I am planning on the contest ending September 30 if all goes well and my calculations are right. As for today's polls, one is easier than the other. I thought Frontierland was decent until the abysmal ending. I thought Death's Door was brilliant until they brought Bobby basically back the next episode. Since one happened in the episode and one didn't, my vote goes to Death's Door. Also to me it is clearly the superior episode as far as writing goes.
ReplyDeleteNo Rest for the Wicked versus Bad Day at Black Rock was a little harder. Both had great acting and superb snark. In the end it came down to 2 things. 1. Bad Day at Black Rock was awesome every second it was on, including scenes without the main characters. No Rest for the Wicked had a couple slow spots, including scenes without the main characters. 2. My mood. It's leaning toward fun episodes this week.
Also thanks to ScottA for captioning out picture yesterday. "See. I told you Bobby didn't have any hair there." Love it Scott. If you have a Twitter account, contact me @dahne1 and you can pick a prize.
1. Death's Door- Loved Frontierland, but I love Bobby more. And it was great to see Rufus being like his guide in his mind. Felt so bad for the boys and Bobby.
ReplyDelete2. This one I don't really care which wins (both great), but I voted for the current underdog, No Rest For The Wicked. I just love the Bobby quotes and the duet of "Dead or Alive". XD
Death's Door. Not sure in poll 2.
ReplyDeleteAn easy set this time around.... Death's Door (some of the best work done on the series) and Bad Day at Black Rock (only negative about this ep was the intro of Bella. everything else was gold for me)
ReplyDeleteToo much Bella. They introduced her wrongly.
ReplyDeleteI was so happy they didn't bring Bobby back to full on life that I wasn't too upset about the ghost. However, I do believe that the 'cliffhanger' approach to the ending of Death's Door was a major misstep. It was unnecessary and pointless.
ReplyDeleteTough decision for season 3. Two great episodes. Bad day at Black rock is one of my favourites, with great quotes, but No Rest for the Wicked has little Lilith, Bon Jovi, Dean hallucinations and blonde Ruby. :)
ReplyDeleteWhile the 'I lost my shoe' bit is funny, I could never get pass Bela, I did not care for the woman at ALL and well, c'mon, 'No Rest for the Wicked', another ballsy move by Kripke in the fact that he actually sent Dean to hell (I know, we didn't get to see hell but still...). As for the first poll, Death's Door, hands down. I really don't like Frontierland. Dahne, all I have to say is serape (you know what I'm talking about). The ending is a direct rip of of Back to the Future III and I actually liked the phoenix.
ReplyDeleteSimple as pie... Death's Door over Frontierland, any day (though Frontierland wasn't bad)
ReplyDeleteSecond.... gosh... this is hard. I'm not so sure on this.... BDaBR is funny, loved it, but I also loved the season finale... I'm all for angst, Dean actually dieing, and the last scene! Toughie... I might have to go with No Rest for the Wicked, because Dean actually went to Hell, instead of being saved at the last second.
Wishy washy on the first poll. But the second one, sheesh love both of them! I stayed loyal to my humor episodes and went with Bad Day.
ReplyDeleteIn the first poll I voted for Frontierland. I enjoyed it and while it's not one of my top favs by any means there is no way I am voting for Death's Door. Yes I loved Death's Door when it first aired and I even cried! Bobby died and it was so tragic to watch. That all went down the toilet after they brought Bobby back as a ghost which I completely hated and negated Death's Door for me so I just can't vote for it. Normally I try to just focus on the episode itself and not think about what comes after but this is one time I just can't. In the second poll this was very hard to choose for me. I love both No Rest For The Wicked and Bad Day At Bad Rock! I voted for NRFTW in the end. They were so bold to send Dean to hell!!! The Bon Jovi scene with Sam and Dean singing is one of my favourite brother moments too. That's just to name a couple things.
ReplyDeleteThis poll was very easy for me. Frontierland all the way for no other reason than Jensen as a cowboy--swoon! Bad Day is in my top ten all time favorites. I can watch it over and over and not get tired of it. Not a fan of Death's Door because it's a Bobby episode. Nothing against Bobby, but he is not the reason I watch the show. It had its good points though. Jared and Jensen's angsty acting was awesome.
ReplyDeleteFirst poll was easy for me. As much as I enjoy Frontierland, Death's Door was a far better episode in every conceivable way. So it got my vote.
ReplyDeleteSecond poll was MUCH harder. Ugh. I love both these episodes but in the end voted for No Rest For The Wicked. It's my favorite finale of all of them, and has so much awesomeness wrapped up in it. Lovely Sam and Dean moments, lovely Bobby and Dean moments, great humor amongst the terror, and creepy Lillith! I love, love, love Bad Day at Black Rock for it's humor, but it loses points for Bela (I never did warm to her - she shoots Sam!). I'll be cool if either wins, really, but I'm rooting for No Rest for the Wicked.
totally agree with you about Bela. She was the only downside to Bad Day at Black Rock and thus I voted No Rest for the Wicked, which has no downsides to me at all.
ReplyDeleteDeath's Door, not because Bobby died, but for the looks on Sam's and Dean's faces, the shock and horror for them is when I cried. Dean with the Donor guy and again with Dick. Sam trying to get Dean to understand Bobby might not make it.
ReplyDeleteBad Day at Black Rock had Sam at his funniest. Great quotes all the way thru and all the characters were fun.
I must be the only person on the planet to give Death's Door a huge EHHH!
ReplyDeleteAnd if the ending would have been him sitting down with the boys for corn, beer and tube it would have been much, much better.
ReplyDeleteExactly, I actually liked the phoenix too!
ReplyDeleteI voted for
ReplyDeleteFrontierland, even with its rather illogical ending.
I always thought that Sam wouldn't have had Bobby's
address written on his phone, but anyway it was a time travel episode which I love, and
then it's a season six one.
Season Six is one of my favourite seasons, and I think that it should get far
more consideration than it does.
X
Then Black Day At Black Rock.
It was a perect episode, every scene a little masterpiece of its own.
I also liked Bela. I thought her complete lack of ethics and her eternal search
for cash was a good foil for the Winchesters who didn't place much importance
on money other than for basic survival, and were always struggling with moral
problems.
I thought the actress performed really well in the role.
Although it was she who shot poor Sam, Dean made him carry the shovel with his wounded
arm.
Tch, tch, big brother Dean!! :)
NRFTW was also a marvellous episode and if I could have voted for both I
would have, but I just love BDABR too much.
..BOTH POLES VERY TOUGH CHOICES..1)..DEATH DOOR....2)..NO REST
ReplyDeletePicking BDABR on poll 2, no question about that one! :D
ReplyDeleteQuotes:- Death Takes A Holiday.
ReplyDeleteX
Dean: Am I making you uncomfortable?
Sam: Get out of me.
Dean: You're such a prude.
Trust Dean to put a double meaning into something that was all else!
X
Alistair: You're stronger Sam. You been soul flexing with your little slut?
Sam: You have no idea.
X
Unfortuately Sammy we did have a good idea.
Dean told you demons were not to be trusted and he was one hundred percent right.
Big brothers know best, at least in this case.
I think that this is another of those episodes that get slightly forgotten at times, but for me it has everything to be up there amongst the best ones. Pamela; Tessa; Sam and Dean trying to move things ghost fashion; Alastair. What is there not to like?
Death's Door - even though I'm not as in love with it as some, it's still a great episode and a much better one than Frontierland (not a fan of the Wild West here). Death's Door is so full of Bobby's love towards the boys that it never fails to break my heart. He was such a wonderful father to those idjits.
ReplyDeleteBad Day at Black Rock - no contest for me. No Rest for the Wicked might have the little creepy Lilith and Dean going to hell, but BDaBR is my favourite comedy episode ever and even after all these years, it keeps making me laugh like crazy. And it's the one episode funny from beginning to end. I love the storyline, I love the one-liners, Sam's luck, Sam's bad luck, Dean being Batman and the classic "son of a bitch". The episode is perfection, very high on my best ever list, probably top 5, and my most rewatched one too.
Death Takes a Holiday is actually more rich in great quotes than I first thought (and such an amazing episode!)
my favs:
# 6
Tessa: You don't remember me?
Dean: Honestly, if I had a nickel for every time I heard a girl say that...
# 5
Dean: What the hell?
Castiel: Guess again.
# 4
Dean: You don't see the irony in that? I mean, you and me,
we're like the poster boys of the unnatural order. All we do is ditch
death.
Sam: Yeah but the normal rules don't really apply to us. Do they?
Dean: We're no different than anybody else.
Sam: I'm infected with demon blood. You've been to Hell.
Look, I know you want to think of yourself as Joe the Plumber, Dean, but
you're not. Neither am I. The sooner you accept that the better off
you're gonna be.
Dean: Joe the Plumber was a douche.
# 3
Pamela: I can't even begin to tell you how crazy you two are.
Sam: Well, Pamela, you are a sight for sore eyes.
Pamela: Ah, that's sweet Grumpy. What do you say to deaf people?
# 2
Sam: Go to Hell.
Alastair: Oh, if only I could. But they just keep sending me back up to this Arctic craphole.
# 1
Pamela: Tell me something, geniuses. Even if you do break into the Veil and you find the Reaper, how are you going to save it?
Dean: With style and class.
You're definitely not the only one who didn't like Death's Door and the world would be a terrible place if everyone liked the same thing. I love Bobby and the episode broke my heart but even if you don't like Sera Gamble, you have to admit this was a masterpiece and I pretty much equate this to her version of 'Swan Song' because well, 'Survival of the Fittest' is by far my least favorite season finale and it had all the pieces to be a great one for me but instead it left me in a "meh" mood and very hungry for Jeremy Carver's homecoming.
ReplyDeleteI think I was blowing my "hurry up" whistle with about three or four episodes to go last year. I thought Survival of the Fittest felt rushed. Like taking 3 1/2 hours to empty the garage but 15 minutes to throw it all back in. Swan Song is king of the hill for me; but I'm just a sucker for voice-over narrations.
ReplyDeleteI probably should watch Death's Door again, without distraction.
In first poll easy choice Death's Door. In second poll is hard to choose. I love both episode and i will be ok if either wins. Eventualy end up voting for No Rest for the Wicked. Because when i was deciding whom i give my vote on tv played Bon Jovi Wanted Dead Or Alive... and that affected my decision.
ReplyDeleteQuotes:

Tessa: "You don't remember me?" Dean: "Honestly, if I had a nickel for every time I heard a girl say that..."
I love Bela. The only true kick ass girl in the series and the only one truly able to mess with our boys. Loved her dynamic with Sam and Dean.
ReplyDeleteYes give Death's Door another chance and focus on Sam and Dean and what they are going through. J2 knocked it out of the park for me and I cried buckets for them.
ReplyDeleteI also liked Bella, and the actress was awesome as Rose in TVD.
ReplyDeleteAny ideas where? Not on Netflix or Hulu and I don't want to buy the DVD set....yet.
ReplyDeleteI am absolutely glad he did not come back as a human too. Also agree about the cliffhanger. They didn't need it. People were already talking about the episode because it was stunning not because of the cliffhanger which was lame.
ReplyDeleteThat would have been ideal. Still I really enjoy that Bobby's last memory wasn't an epic moment of life and death but a simple family time with the two men he loved as his own. It was a perfect last memory.
ReplyDeleteRufus was one of my favorite guest stars. So sorry they killed him off but Death's Door was a great way to bring him back in. He added humor and poignancy - a winning combo.
ReplyDeleteCount me as a Bela fan, although I know most fans feel like you. When she was used very sparingly I found her fun even if they did have her make the brothers look stupid far too often. That wasn't a good selling point and they should have toned that down a bit. I did however do a marathon once of all Bela episodes in a row and by the end she was on my last nerve. She was good in small doses to me..
ReplyDeleteWelcome to SpoilerTV. Thanks for sharing your opinion. I agree that this is the tougher of the two polls.
ReplyDeleteHa! Serape! (shakes head) I agree that sending Dean to hell was gutsy but in all honesty I expected it by that point. They simply did not have any time with the writers' strike to do anything else. By the way, I thought the phoenix was very sympathetic too.
ReplyDeleteI'm no fan of westerns but in every western I've ever seen, what the phoenix did was completely justified. He was one of the more sympathetic monsters and another reason why Frontierland did not wow me as much as it did others.
ReplyDeleteSounds like Death's Door is your Girl Next Door to me. There are things about that episode I liked (namely the flashbacks) but the ending and the repercussions from it are inseparable for me. Of course I didn't like GND as much as you did Death's Door int eh first place but still. I agree that bringing Bobby back as a ghost just a few episodes later was a terrible move.
ReplyDeleteI think a couple of my problems were...I hated the actress in that roll (I've seen her in 2 or three other parts and have liked her work there. Not in Supernatural though.) I'm not sure if it was her performance or the writers, but she never seemed grounded in the part. Or, maybe it was that it felt like the writers never truly committed to her as a villain. The character was wishy washy to me.
ReplyDeleteI dunno. She just never worked for me...there were eps when she was okay. The ship one where people were drowning on dry land is one example. I just was never a fan.
Egads! I forgot to put the quotes in yesterday. Here they are very, very late. This episode is one of the few relief episodes of season 4 and it's got some great gems in it. It should get more love than it does.
ReplyDeleteDeath Takes a Holiday Quotes:
15. Dean: "You know what I mean. We're talking the end of the world here okay. No more tasseled leather pants, no more Ramones CDs, no more nothing. We need your help."14. Sam: "You might want to ease up on the flying soccer balls."13. Alastair: "Boys. Find the place okay? Hmm. Rock salt's not so much fun anymore is it?"12. Dean: "You going to kill a reaper with that? It's a little on the nose don't you think." Alastair: "Is it? An old friend lent it to me. You know he really doesn't ride a pale horse but he does have three amigos and they're just jonesing for the Apocalypse. It pays to have friends in low places don't you think?"11. Tessa: "The angels have something good in store for you - a second chance. Really? Cause I'm pretty sure deep down you know something nasty's coming down the road. Trust your instincts Dean. There's no such thing as miracles."10. Pamela: "Tell me something geniuses. Even if you do break into the veil and you find the reaper, how're you gonna save it?" Dean: "With style and class."9. Tessa: "You don't remember me?" Dean: "Honestly if I had a nickel for every time I heard a girl say that…you're going to have to freshen my memory."8. Dean: "Well how the hell are we supposed to fight that?" Sam: "I don't know. Learn some ghost moves?" Dean: "By tonight. Yeah sure. I'll meet you back at Mr. Miyagi's."7. Pamela: "You don't know what you're doing." Dean: "No but you do." Pamela: "Yeah I do and guess what, I'm sick of being hauled back into your angel-demon, Soc-greaser crap."6. Pamela: "I know what you did to that demon Sam. I can feel what's inside of you. If you think you have good intentions, think again."5. Sam: "Go to hell." Alastair: "Ah if only I could but they just keep sending me back up to this arctic cr**hole."4. Sam: "Dude, I'm not going to do Fight Club with a 12 year old."3. Dean: "So what, the local reaper's on strike? Playing the back nine?" 2. Jenkins: "Now you two said you were bloggers." Sam: "Yes sir. Floored by the Lord dotcom." Dean: "All God's glory fit to blog."1. Sam: "Look this isn't going to be easy to hear but you're dead. You're a spirit. Us too." Cole: "Yeah thanks Haley Joel. I know I'm dead. What do you want?"
No sorry, I buy the sets as soon as they come out, the bonus material is worth the price of the disks. Try half.com I pick up a lot of DVDs from them cheap, but for this series I want them new and NOW. lol I did not cry for Bobby, but for Sam and Dean.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like The CW has full eps on their web site, but have not tried to see if it is the full ep.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.cwtv.com/shows/supernatural/episodes/710
I know, I didn't like that they still killed him.
ReplyDeleteYep. Kind of "Field of Dreams-ish".
ReplyDeleteI think they were trying to redeem her somewhat at the end but that didn't work for me either. I think she played better as the human version of a demon. Someone who was only in it for herself so she'd use you if you were useful and screw you over when you weren't.
ReplyDeleteI obviously wasn't excited that Bela shot Sam but I have to say it was one of the most shocking moments of the series to me. I didn't see it coming and it let me know that Bela was not one to be messed with because she had no conscious.
ReplyDeleteLove those quotes! I also agree that Bad day at Black Rock is unique as a comedy because it's one of the few that didn't stray back into drama at the midpoint. It's one of the episodes I turn to after a long, hard day.
ReplyDeleteHa! I can see how that would sway your vote. It was such a great scene. One of my favorite musical moments on the show.
ReplyDeletehaha, true. After the Impala getting t-boned, and John dying, this was another one of those wtf shocking moments. The writers made a mistake though - they made her completely unsympathetic and I couldn't ever get past that later on when they seemed to want to make her more likable. Oh well. Apparently the addition of the ladies was part Network interference so...at least they (Ruby and Bela) served the story, for the most part. kind of.
ReplyDelete
