In a very rare double blow out in this round, both What is and What Should Never Be and Faith trounced their competition, Asylum and Plucky Pennywhistle's Magical Menagerie. I know I'm not looking forward to these 2 big episodes coming against each other in the next round, but I'm happy they made it through. The results of today's polls will make me a lot less happy I think.
Speaking of, we enter the final side of round 2 today. 4 more days and we will start round 3 where everything gets harder. Coincidentally there are 5 season 7 episodes out of 16 still in this section - the largest of any. I'm excited to see how these episodes have held up over the hellatus given that most of them were nominated right after the season ended. Guess we will know on Tuesday. Don't forget to nominate quotes for Family Remains and happy voting!
PS - I decided we needed two pictures to capture the essence of the brother scene in PPMM. I couldn't find a picture of them both together at the end and it seemed like a crime to choose another scene to capture. Brothers laughing and smiling together is not to be missed on this show. It's far too rare.

Again an easy set of polls for me today. The French Mistake was the episode I dreaded the most in season 6. I hated the 2 other major meta for meta's sake episodes and I was getting a little sour on Ben Edlund at the time too. The two combined spelled disaster in my book. Then I saw the episode and laughed the whole way through. Although I didn't love it like so many others, I really enjoyed it and it exceeded my expectations to the extreme. If it hadn't been for the supremely sucky and non-sensical ending it would have been my favorite metasode and pretty high up the season 6 list for me. While I liked some parts of Reading is Fundamental, the biggest of which was the introduction of Kevin Tran, the Sorry scene may be my absolute least favorite scene in all of Supernatural. I know I threw the most projectiles at my screen when it first aired. I could never vote for this episode for that scene alone.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I expect it to be trounced, my vote also goes to Slash Fiction. This was my favorite season 7 episode and I adore the diner scene with the LeviaChesters. "I once had a brother with these many issues…..I ate him." "Of course you did." I loved all the action, the ever-flowing snark which I had been missing, Sheriff Jody with Bobby, and by far the best Leviathan of them all - Mensa Monster. Even Frank grew on me. Since I conveniently forget the last 3 minutes ever happened, this episode is all upside for me.
BOTH HAD THE SAME CHOICE
ReplyDeleteEasy choices today.
ReplyDeleteThe French mistake is one brilliant comedy episode. I love how this how can make me laugh more than a lot of comedie that are out there and the French mistake was no exception. I even showed it to the rest of my family (who don't watch the show) and they were laughing.
Next comes all hell breaks loose. I love slash fiction but season two was my favourite finale and part one played a huge part in that. We learned so much more about Sam and his mysterious powers (which all seems so long ago now) and a azazel was just such an awesomely evil bad guy and we got to see Andy again (even if it was rather brief). Just a brilliant episode
The French Mistake and All Hell Breaks Loose part 1.
ReplyDeleteSlash Fiction was a great episode IMO. I hope Robbie Thompson is writing more episodes this season.
ReplyDeleteAh I do not think my choices will fair well today.
ReplyDelete1. Reading Is Fundamental - I prefer this over a meta episode as drastic as The French Mistake. TFM was funny, but I don't like breaking too many walls. RIF has Inias and Kevin. It wins over TFM.
2. Slash Fiction- one of the best of season 7. Voted for it to give it a boost of support, and I like Bobby and Jody!
Family Remains - Sucky episode with basically sucky quotes. Lose-lose for me.
ReplyDeleteFamily Remains Quotes:
10. Mrs. Curry: "I already told the local boys. There was blood everywhere." Dean: "And Mr. Gibson? Where was he?" Mrs. Curry: "Everywhere."9. Dean: "Boy, 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, and one homicide. This place is going to sell like hot cakes."8. Ted: "You smell that." Dean: "Every day."7. Sam: "That's all she talks about - being pregnant, being ashamed of being pregnant." Dean: "Geez rent Juno and get over it. 6. Dean: "It's not just a girl. It's Psycho Nell. I'm telling you man, humans…"5. Dean: "Cr**. So what now?" Sam: "We could tell them the truth." Dean: "Really?" Sam: "No, not really."4. Dean: "Dog, it's what's for dinner."3. Ted: "You find anything?" Dean: "Yeah, her kitchen." Ted: "Her what?"2. Dean: "What kind of ghost messes with a man's wheels?"1. Kate: "I just got molested by Casper the Pervy Ghost. That's what happened."
The French Mistake is another favorite of mine, love when the writers make fun of the lack of fans. Laughed out loud in many places and loved Misha, great ep for me.
ReplyDeleteReading is Fundamental was another ep I enjoyed, liked meeting Kevin and off his rocker Cas and liked the Sorry game and Dean telling him no you just like playing Sorry. But just can not compete with Mistake.
Slash Fiction was a bloody fun ep, 2 Sam & Dean means 2 times the fun, loved Jody and Bobby and the best Levi ever tied to their chair. Liked him even better than Dick. Since I liked
All Hell Breaks Loose Part 2 much better, it was easy not to vote for this one
I despise Reading is Fundamental. I did not enjoy that episode. AT ALL. Plus, I did enjoy The French Mistake so that's what I voted for. Aside from the STUPID reason that the guys were *transported* to the alternate universe (the whole Rapheal/weapons/blah blah blah WHO CARES!), I thought the episode was pretty enjoyable. It certainly won't win over anything else that I've voted for lately, but still. It's a million times better than Reading is Fundamental.
ReplyDeleteAll Hell Breaks Loose pt1 wins the second poll. Slash Fiction was fun, but AHBL was the culmination of TWO YEARS of show! It's not as good as pt.II, but still, DAMN! Awesome episode.
Finally, an easy poll!
ReplyDeleteThe French Mistake - if I've completely forgotten about an episode of Supernatural, then I can't vote for it. :-) I did not recognize Reading is Fundamental at all.
Slash Fiction - All Hell Breaks Loose pt loses for me, not because I had any problem with it or anything ( I didn't), but for me part 2 eclipses it...and since they are officially split...that's how I think of them.
I fear I may be voting the minority again but my picks are The French Mistake and Slash Fiction.
Reading is Fundamental was okay, I'm not going to say I hated it, but I didn't love it. The French Mistake, however, was hilarious! I especially loved Misha! I loved his enterance,
ReplyDelete"This guy isn't Cas!"
"You guys! You got me" And all the tweeting... Poor guy, when he's killed I was like, "Nooooo! Cas!!!! Waaaaait.... Noooooo Mishaaaaaa!" So my vote goes for it.
I did like Slash Fiction, I did. It was a great episode. I also loved All Hell Breaks Loose, part 1, though if I'm honest with myself, the only thing that is really influencing my vote is Sam's Death scene, or rather, Dean's reaction to it. So I'm going to vote for Slash Fiction, one of the better season 7 episodes.
My votes go to TFM and AHBL. French was funny, more so than Reading. And I still don't think I get the Sorry scene or half of what Cas was rambling on about in that episode.
ReplyDeleteAHBL was one of my favorite episodes. The beginning and endings were intense. YED became super scary, Ash died, the roadhouse burned, and Sam died - for real! I also loved seeing the return of Andy and Eva, seeing Sam as a leader, and getting more answers about YED's plans for Sam. Slash had a few funny moments, but it represented a lot of what was wrong about season 7. LeviSam and LeviDean were more interesting than the real Sam and Dean. Sam and Dean were idiots who thought it would be a good idea to go after the Leviathans knowing that their weapons were useless - motivated I guess out of ego. They were knowingly putting themselves in a position where they would have to count on Bobby bailing them out. Sam became stupid around computers, and Dean was a self-centered child who was more upset that he couldn't drive his car for a while than he was that people were being killed.
I would actually be great if Robbie Thompson became the head writer. I've liked everything he's done so far which is far more than I can say for the rest of them -new and old.
ReplyDeleteI always wondered if people who did not get the mass of in-jokes would find French Mistake funny. Glad to hear your family did.
ReplyDeleteMy problem with the French Mistake is the ending. You put the brothers through all that to get the weapons and then Cas just lets Raphael go? Really? If you have the weapons, use them. We could have avoided all the rest of it if Cas had taken on Raphael right there.
ReplyDeleteSlash Fiction is definitely going to lose. I've reconciled myself to that although I like you feel part 1 is less exciting than part 2. Still I would rather lose to AHBL1 than a lot of other episodes.
ReplyDeleteThe French Mistake
ReplyDeleteAll Hell Breaks Loose, Part 1
I usually like to vote for one of the two but in the first poll I'm just going to pass as none of the two inspire me.
ReplyDeleteX
AHBL 1 can't not get my vote, as it's one of the episodes I have watched the most. A great first-part to a great season finale.
I kind of miss a two-parter. I wish they would do another one sometime, as it gives more scope to an episode.
I have a feeling that the winning episode of the whole contest is going to be one of three types. It's either going to be a season premiere episode, season finale, or a meta episode.
ReplyDeleteQuotes:-
ReplyDeleteDean: Crap. So what do we do now?
Sam: We could tell them the truth.
Dean: Really?
Sam: No, not really.
X
Dean: You know I felt for those sons of bitches back there. Life long torture turns you into something like that...
Sam: You were in Hell, Dean. Maybe you did what you did there...but you're not them. They were barely human.
Dean: No, you're right. I wasn't like them. I was worse. They
were animals, Sam. Defending territory. Me? I did it for the sheer
pleasure.
Sam: What?
Dean: I enjoyed it, Sam. they took me off the rack, and I
tortured souls, and I liked it. All those years; all that pain. Finally
getting to deal some out yourself...I didn't care who they put in front
of me, because that pain I felt, that just slipped away. No matter how
many people I save, I can't change that. I can't fill this hole. Not
ever.

I know that Family Remains isn't considered one of the better episodes but I enjoyed it.
It told a terrible story of the two poor children treated like animals and how different their life had been from the life of the other two "normal " children.
I felt pity for the tragic end that they had.
No ghosts this time!
Then poor Dean's reveal about Hell at the end was so moving, for the viewers and for Sam.
.
If my predictions are right the final 8 will include a flash back, 2 premieres, a meta, a character study, 2 AU's, and a time travel episode. My guess is the flash back vs the time travel will be the finale. However, if the flash back gets beaten by the premiere I think the premiere will take the whole thing. I hope a very different AU takes the whole thing though.
ReplyDeleteI know you're right. lol
ReplyDeleteI do agree with you about it having to lose to AHBL1.
TFM and AHBL for me this time. Though SF is also a good ep.
ReplyDeleteThe French Mistake and ALBL 1.
ReplyDeleteI find Slash fiction just genius, it resonates with many other classic scenes in the previous episodes of the show and it does further the mytharc really nicely too. It offers also interesting foreshadowings:
ReplyDeleteThere is the horrible feeling about having your own faces robbed and been worn by horrible monsters who get you into trouble (1.6; 3.10); similar to the situation of seeing the brothers or Bobby possessed (2.14; 6.16), so we get to see bad monsters in the skin of our favorite characters. The bank robbery reminds us of course of “Nightshifter” 2.12, but also of “Folsom Prison Blues” 2.19 (the brothers feigning a robbery in order to get caught), and the situation at the sheriff’s office resonates with “Jus in Bello” (3.12). The introduction of Frank Deveraux reminds us of the one for Bobby in “Devils Trap” (1.22): at first he doesn’t want to help the brothers and tries to drive them away, holding a gun to their faces. The 7 first episodes of the show are then recalled as the pattern the two false brothers are following.
There are several genius scenes in the episode: the one with the song in the new car (reminding us of Dean’s singing in “Simon Said”, 2.5 and the awesome scene of both brothers singing in 3.16). The car that saved the world (5.22) and holds such a deep relationship with Dean required this kind of (temporary) goodbye (“Nobody puts Baby in a corner”). The premise of the episode allows for the interesting scene about the false Winchesters talking about all the flaws of their counterparts in the diner, and seeing Dean behead the likeness of Sam and of himself, or even Dean admiring the other Impala’s wheel rims.
The episode is hilarious, and also gets to offer a few of nice touching moments: Jody’s friendship with Bobby, and Bobby’s hopes about her, besides his issues with his father and his readiness to die any moment (foreshadowing of 7.10). Dick and Crawley’s scene offers some setup and even the “bibbing punishment” gets a mention. In summary, “Slash Fiction” pays a beautiful homage to some of the best moments ever in Supernatural (and also to famous pop culture film “Pulp Fiction”). It was a really genial way for the writer, Robbie Thompson to jump into SPN.
In real life I agree with you, but then we would have not had the rest of that season and I LIKED the rest of the season.
ReplyDeleteYou don't think any of the finale will be up there??
ReplyDeleteThe two with the best shot are Swan Song and AHBL2. I think both will face significant competition to make it in. I am hoping that Swan Song gets defeated because I adore the episode it will go against and it's a toss up for me about AHBL2 since both episodes will be in my top 10.
ReplyDeleteThe problem for me is that this episode is when it turns from Castiel seeing the Purgatory souls as the only way to defeat Raphael to Castiel being just another power-hungry madman using the souls to solidify his own base. I didn't like the change in Castiel here and it made every excuse he uses from this point on invalid in my opinion. This was the final point when I knew absolutely that Cas could not be trusted and that he would screw over the brothers for his plan. It was also when I knew we had another season 4 betrayal on our hands and I had enough of that the first time around.
ReplyDeleteIf it makes you feel better either of them will be up against French Mistake next round and I don't see either of them winning that one. French Mistake could steam roll them both.
ReplyDeleteI was so torn over Cas and the souls. Cas wanting Dean to be with him on his plan and I am thinking Cas has helped so many times and Dean being all I am always right and this is wrong. I was on both sides of this and knew it was not going to end well. I don't remember any other time in this series that I felt like this, usually it is black and white on what is right, as it turned out Cas went power hungry and instead of just killing Raphael, he went way off the deep end. He had the chance to send the souls back early on, but who knows it that would have worked any better than doing it later. I just have a big connection with Dean and Cas it was awful. lol
ReplyDeleteAnd my favorite ep so far is Swan Song, but there are many that are nipping at its heels. ;) Off to feed baby squirrels.
ReplyDeleteToday was easy voting again. In the first poll I am not a huge fan of either episode but considering I couldn't even remember what Reading Is Fundamental was about and had to rewatch the promo for it to remind me made it easy again. The French Mistake had it's moments for sure. Who can't love love Sam and Dean trying to act? Just over all it falls a bit short for me. I always hated that Sam and Dean all of a sudden acted like they had no idea about being on a set when they were perfectly fine being on a set in Hollywood Babylon in season 2. So out of default The French Mistake gets my vote. In the second poll I voted for All Hell Breaks Loose Part 1. Slash Fiction was pretty good too but I would be hard pressed to ever vote against AHBL P1. That episode is just so great!
ReplyDeletein poll voting for Slash Fiction.

ha, there's that too. Though the end goes along with the beginning in that the whole reason they were "sent" to the AU was just DUMB. And yeah, Castiel letting Raphael go? Ugh. Man, there is SO MUCH about season 6 I just do not like!
ReplyDeleteAre these ones called Dean and Sam too? If San Song gets past the next two rounds, it will go all the way to the final 4, but I don't see it making it to the finals. Too many people are iffy about that one when it starts competing with the best of the best SPN episodes. My favorite won't make it that far either.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your points of French Mistake. I laugh during the "acting" scene but it also irks me to no end. Dean and Sam are professional liars which means that acting is big part of their job. No way they should have been that terrible at it.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear it. Slash Fiction needs some love.
ReplyDeleteHave not named these yet, a boy and a girl, if I did not already have a Dean, it would have been Dean and Jo. lol Now I am going to have to think about it some.
ReplyDeletewell to be fair...acting or impersonating someone as a "con" for a job (which is basically what they do) is likely quite different than having to "ACT" (aka perform) on camera. ;) In any case, they acted like they'd never seen a set before, which was off-putting and irking.
ReplyDeleteBobby and Ellen?
ReplyDeleteI missed the voting, but wanted to just come and say there were 4 strong episodes in this round and I really like all of them. It was a good round.
ReplyDeleteFor what it's worth, I love Family Remains, even if the majority of fans dislike it. I find it scary, creepy, surprising, touching and sad all at the same time, plus it was a nice break from all the heaven and hell drama. I pity the kids too, as well as the tortured soul of Dean. Season 4, good times, good times.
ReplyDeleteHumans, man!
ReplyDeleteDid not bother me at all, I loved this whole ep and their "acting" was priceless.
ReplyDeletePERFECT, Bobby and Ellen it will be and you can be their God Mother. ;)
ReplyDeleteAwww, I'm honored.
ReplyDeleteoh I thought the "acting" scene was great, too. Very funny and the definite highlight (along with Sam as Jared and Dean as Jensen seeing Gen) It was just weird that they seemed not to understand the set, when they worked a case on a film set in Hollywood Babylon.
ReplyDeleteI loved the "camel" in the backyard, Sam needing to find out his "wife" name, the "where" together when Gen told them Misha had been killed, finding out they were not in America...just the whole ep was a blast. "Eric" getting shot, Robert Singer naming a character after hisself. I could go on. LOL
