Supernatural - Ultimate Episode Round 2-O - Polls

10 Sept 2012

Results are in and another season 7 episode is heading for round 3. Meet the New Boss took an early lead over Clap Your Hands if You Believe and never turned back. Things were a lot closer between Survival of the Fittest and It's a Terrible Life, tying in votes several times. In the end, IaTL eked by with 16 more votes. Today the final season 7 episode will try to make it to round 3 along with a premiere, character study and mytharc episode. As always pass the word to make sure your choices move on. We're also hunting quotes from After School Special, one of my very least favorite episodes. Nominate your top 2 choices and happy voting!

  1. This whole section has been remarkably easy to vote on for me. Today is no exception. In My Time of Dying is one of the best Supernatural episodes of them all. There is nothing in this section I would vote for over it. From the introduction of Tessa and the brother Ouija board scene to the awesome one-liners. Plus we get my favorite YED who is my favorite bad guy on SPN. I even did my happy dance when John died. It was a powerful opening to my favorite season. When the Levee Breaks is too emoangsty for me but it is a powerful episode in its own right. Still my vote definitely goes to the excellent In My Time of Dying. "Dude, I full on Swayze-d that mother."

Hello, Cruel World was my second favorite season 7 episode after Slash Fiction. It contained maybe the best brother moment in the entire history of the series with the warehouse scene. Lucifer was actually devious and scary instead of whiny and annoying. The mytharc move up in one giant bound. The pacing (with the exception of the absurd cuts back and forth) was good and the action moved through the whole episode. All in all an excellent way to start the season. Heaven and Hell on the other hand is in the hideous freefall of brotherly chasm called midseason 4. While the episode itself had some good parts, the brother rift is still growing and that makes my frown lines pop out.

  2. In My time of Dying and Hello, Cruel World.

Too bad the Leviathans didn't live up to the expectations I had after HCW.

  3. I was riding high expectations after the first 2 episodes also. I will never understand why they thought the Amy subplot was a great idea much less why they made it the third episode.

  4. I voted for In My Time Of Dying and Hello, Cruel World.

  5. Yeah, it totally killed the momentum. Besides that I think the Leviathans only worked in a few more episodes.

Slash Fiction and after that I don't know.

  6. Easy today.
In my time of dying and hello cruel world were both simply incredible episodes that neither of their opponents can match up to

  7. I'm a little nervous my winning streak might be coming to an end. I voted for In My Time of Dying because I can barely stomach When The Levee Breaks and while I like 'Hello Cruel World' with it being one of the three best episodes in season 7 in my opinion, I had to go with 'Heaven and Hell' if only for the priceless Uriel quote, ' You went and got a slice of that angel food cake'.

  8. Heaven and Hell and In the Time of Dying.

Hello Cruel World, was not really great except for the final Sam and Dean moment. I was impressed when I first watched the episode but when I think about it now, I don't think, Leviathans lived up to their expectation. I hardly remember what happened in Hell and Heaven, but I believe its better than HCW.

  9. I agree that besides in Slash Fiction, they really were more compelling as an idea than what resulted on screen.

  10. 1. In My Time Of Dying - The first season premiere of the show I ever watched. It is the reason I continued watching the show even after finding out what happens after the accident (My first episode was Devil's Trap). Dean's out of body experience and Sam's concern was great. John's conversation/deal with Azazel was an interesting conversation. The emotions in the episode- so sad when Sam finds John dead. Tessa is a great character too.

When The Levee Breaks was another good episode, but I disliked the ending.

    2. Hello, Cruel World- Loved this episode because of Jody, Sam's hallucinations (Lucifer hallucination was at its best here), Dean's concern, and the action. Was upset about Bobby's house though and Cas's 3rd death :( (it's funny when I write it down-he's the king of resurrection man). But I won't hold those two things against the episode.

Heaven and Hell is a good episode but not great. I'm not that big on Anna's character, especially human. Did love the angels vs. demons scene. Alastair 1 may not have been as scary as #2 but the actors are both good.

  11. So concise, so true. Great way to put it.

  12. When the Levee Breaks is the next up for me int he quotes watch. I'm hoping to do it on Monday, but I've got a feeling I won't be able to stomach all that angst in one setting. I may have to do 15 minutes at a time. As for your winning streak, I'm not sure it's going to continue either. In My Time of Dying should do well but the other one will be close. I'll be rooting against your streak this time. :-)

  13. Happy dance? I nearly cried when John died. Was sad for the boys and he made the ultimate sacrifice.

  14. I absolutely detest After School Special and more and more every rewatch. I also didn't find most of it quotable. I prefer to forget this episode exists.
    After School Special Quotes:

    12. Sam: "I'm not evil Dirk. I'm not and neither were you. Trust me, I've seen real evil. We were scared and miserable and we took it out on each other, us and everybody else. That's high school, but you suffer through that and it gets better. I'm just sorry you didn't get a chance to see that, you or Barry."11. Dean: "Dude she wants me to meet her parents. I don't do parents."10. Sam: "Just shut up okay. I don’t need your help." Dean: "That's right. You could have torn him apart so why didn't you?" Sam: "Because I don't want to be the freak for once Dean. I want to be normal." Dean: "So taking a beating, that's normal?"9. Wyatt: "Well you know the only thing that really matters is uh that you're happy. Are you happy Sam?"8. Dean: "No sulfur no demon. No demon no case." Sam: "I don't know. Maybe I was wrong." Dean: "Oh well, it happens to the best of us. I say we hit the road, huh. But after lunch. It's a Sloppy Joe day."7. Dean: "We came back here so you could talk to a teacher?" Sam: "He's a good guy." Dean: "Well whatever. Go have your Robin Williams' "Oh Captain, My Captain" moment. Just make it quick."6. Sam: "Having fun?" Dean: "The whistle makes me their god." Sam: "Right."5. Sam: "McGregor." Dean: "Yeah why?" Sam: "I knew his son." Dean: "You know everybody at this school?"4. Dean: "So a spook just grabs a kid on the bus and walks right in to Truman." Sam: "It's possible." Dean: "Ghosts getting creative. Well that's super."3. Teacher: "Do you want to go into the family business Sam?" Sam: "No one's ever asked me that before." Teacher: "Well." Sam: "More than anything, no."2. Coach: "Aren't you the PE teacher?" Dean: "Not really. I'm like 21 Jump Street. Bus driver sells pot. Yeah."1. Dean: "Apparently shoving a kid's arm into a Cuisenaire is not a healthy display of anger."

  15. Yeah, Dahne's, not the biggest Papa Winchester fan. Biggest understatement of all time? Quite possibly, LOL!

  16. I hated John with a passion so yes I was excited when he died and I'm one of the few fans who does not ever need another visit from JDM to make the series complete for me. Let him stay dust in the wind. John irked me from the moment I knew he was alive and physically capable of picking up a phone to talk to his kids. Home made me irate at him and my dislike of him just got more virulent as the series went on. By Faith I was wishing a horrible death on him. There is no excuse for not calling your kids when one of them is dying! Good riddance in my opinion!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Ha! "Not the biggest fan..." Yeah that might be a slight understatement. You know me so well.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Oh I knew you hated him, but not to that degree. Pretty severe.

I was still sad, and I hated that he didn't call as well.

I think it's really tragic how he let Mary's death and the supernatural world consume him considering how he was before her death in the time travel episodes.

Maybe I'm just a sympathetic person. I see the good in everyone. That's why I could love Balthazar and Gabriel. Despite what they did sometimes, I found the good in them. Plus they were funny. XD

  19. In My Time of Dying is one of my top eps, loved the Ouija Board and the look on Sam's face when Dean said yes he was there. I am one of the papa John fans, he always tried to do the right thing for the boys, not that it seemed that way many times. He just wanted to keep them safe, but he did make me mad when he did not call when Dean was dying..Enjoyed Tessa and YED.

I have to go with Heaven and Hell since it is in my top 10, loved Dean and Anna in the Impala, thinking that Dean had betrayed Anna was awful, but the big fight was a winner.

Hello, Cruel World is also on my list of top ep, and the warehouse scene with Lucifer as Dean, then Dean showing up and Sam firing the gun. Dean and Sam injured, Bobby's house burning, a lot going on, but I have watched Heaven and Hell more often so will stay with it.

  20. 'Slight' understatement? :)

  21. I love In My Time of Dying but When the Levee Breaks was not going to get as many votes and it was good also. Same for the next one. I voted Heaven and Hell

    Quotes:

    1. Coach: "Aren't you the PE teacher?" Dean: "Not really. I'm like 21 Jump Street. Bus driver sells pot. Yeah."

2.Sam: "Having fun?" Dean: "The whistle makes me their god." Sam: "Right."

  22. my vote goes to When the Levee Breaks and heaven & hell...while i loved in my time of dying i enjoyed when the levee breaks a lot more because of the brother angst and the whole demon blood addiction storyline.and well i voted for heaven and hell cause there are a very few episodes of season 7 that i will vote for over an awesome deamon/angel fight scene.

  23. Son of a....

Damn site ate my comment. And it was good, too. >:-\

Well, I voted for In My Time of Dying (my absolute favorite episode) and Hello, Cruel World (best of season 7, and better than anything in season 6 too).

    ReplyDelete
  24. agreed, except for being happy for John's death. I saw him as supremely flawed, but still a good man who did the best he could. I was actually surprised that he did die. I wasn't expecting that.

Hello, Cruel World is, IMO, the best of seasons 6 and 7. Very, very, very strong, well-written, well-acted, well-shot episode.

  25. After School Special Quote: Dean: That ghost is dead. I'm gonna rip its lungs out! Well, you know what I mean.

Also voted HCW in poll 2.

  26. In My Time Of Dying and Heaven and Hell

I don't have massively articulatable reasons today. :-)

  27. I enjoy rewatching both In My Time of Dieing and When the Levee Breaks, but In My Time of Dieing has always been a favorite of mine.
7x1 and 7x2 made me have high hopes for season seven. I did like Heaven and Hell , it was a good conclusion to the two-parter Anna story, but my votes goes for Hello, Cruel World

  28. New rule: The names Amy and Becky shall be stricken from the SPN record (if only I could really do that).

  29. In My Time of Dying because i just love that episode (Dean's out of body experience, Sam trying find way save brother's life, Sam and Dean talking using board Tessa, Jonh dead (never liked him, after Faith episode started hate him), YED). Not the fan of episode When the Levee Breaks and don't like ending.

Before deciding which episode give me vote, i do alot thinking and rewatch both episodes. Eventually end up voting for Hello, Cruel World. Because it has one the best brothers moments,
Dean's concern, Sam's hallucinations (Lucifer was scary), action, Bobby, Jody. In Heaven and Hell liked fight between angels and demons and ending when Dean tells Sam about hell.

Quotes ( After School Special i just hate that episode so choose quotes was difficult for me):

Coach: "Aren't you the PE teacher?" Dean: "Not really. I'm like 21 Jump Street. Bus driver sells pot. Yeah."

Dean: "So a spook just grabs a kid on the bus and walks right in to
Truman." Sam: "It's possible." Dean: "Ghosts getting creative. Well
    that's super."

  30. First poll, definitely In My Time of Dying. This, WIaWSNB and AHBL part 2 are not only the very best episodes of season 2, but also true Supernatural classics, all three very high on my best ever list (my list is never completely defined, cause my favourites tend to switch places on it depending on many factors). But these three are always there. I love IMToD for vulnerable Dean, poor Sammy desperately trying to save his brother, for Tessa, for Yellow Eyes and the Colt and finally even for John sacrificing himself to save his son. I would have adored the talk he has with Dean, possibly the only moment in Dean's life when he could feel appreciated by his father, if it wasn't for the fact he told him to kill Sam if necessary.
In When the Levee Breaks I hate the brother fight, but I just have to mention that one lonely tear going down Dean's cheek when he tells Sam he's a monster. That's what I call powerful acting.

In the other poll, I had to go for Hello, Cruel World, the best episode of season 7. Very powerful stuff and an episode full of action. Losing Cas was heartbreaking (even if it happened for a hundredth time), especially in the given circumstances. Sam trying to deal with his visions gave us an opportunity to see a wonderful brother moment and then the entire Leviathan in Sioux Falls storyline caused nothing but anticipation of what the new Big Bads will be like and where the season will take them. The rest of the season might not have lived up to expectations after Hello, Cruel World, but the episode itself was pure Supernatural gold.
I think Heaven and Hell is a great episode too. I loved the two-episode Anna story arch, before they went on to completely destroy the character. I loved Dean's scenes with Anna, they actually had what probably is my favourite sex scene of the series. There were both Pamela and Alastair, some of my favourite recurring characters of SPN (I mean, Alastair as in my favourite villain) and I loved the idea of a fallen angel becoming human and not remembering anything from the previous life. I liked the angels vs demons fight, as well as Dean's scene with Uriel ("I don't break that easy" ringed in my head later, in OtHoaP). And of course the ending scene. Probably one of the most heartbreaking moments of SPN, and the most shocking too. Now come to think of it, I loved a hell lot of things about Heaven and Hell. Maybe I should have voted for it after all :P

and btw, speaking about this episode made me remember On the Head of a Pin. Damn, I'm still mourning this episode. It should've made it much further in the contest...

  31. Dean slept with Anna, Titanic style. So no way it is better than... well pretty much anything.
