What is it with the post-apocalyptic world that fascinates us so much? We have been presented with a series of TV shows and movies of the genre and they just keep on coming. Each one of them, though, try and give us an idea of how a post-apocalyptic life would be from different angles: suddenly everyone is dead and we have to battle zombies to survive; or we have to work our heads off to get something resembling dog food so we can keep our stomachs full, and others, show us what the world would be like without electricity.
NBC’s new
bet, Revolution, created by Eric Kripke (Supernatural), shows us within 5
minutes of the pilot what a mess – putting it mildly – the Earth as we know it
would become.
Fifteen years
later, living on a mix of jungle and big cities, the heroes of our story have
perfectly adapted to this new lifestyle and have been living comfortably in a
village. However, having to create their own rules, militias and rebels live
among them, threatening the fragile peaceful environment they managed to live
in. Do you know why? Because there’s a secret. There is ALWAYS a secret when it
comes to the end of the world! And this secret was downloaded and stored in a
flash drive when electricity was about to end. Apparently, whatever information
is safe-guarded in that flash drive can bring everything back to normal and all
the bad guys want it bad!
Even with all
this going on, drama is known to dwell on teenage girls’ hearts and since one
of our heroes is a teenage girl, there is room for that, as well. And room for
forbidden teenage love.
The cast of
Revolution has been well picked: Billy Burke – always a charmer – as one of the
keys to our electric mystery, plays Miles who seems to have learned one trick
or two during those fifteen years in the dark and single-handedly kills a bunch
of militia soldiers with a sword.
So we have
the fighter, the teenagers, the ex-nerd-millionaire who is afraid of bees, the
Brittish lady doctor and the bad guys and a world without electricity. What
else do we need?

ReplyDeleteI really hope they change the character of Charlie and replace it with a brother or if they decide not to change the character, then I wish they would go on with an older actress in her mid 20s who can play the role well. Honestly, the girl playing the role now is really bad.
ReplyDeleteAnd, I have got some questions:
1.Any idea why they didn't chose a 2-hour pilot like Fringe and The Walking Dead? That would have been better considering how packed the one hour pilot was.2.As we all know, Electricity is required for functioning of brain, nerves and heart in our body. Do you think this issue would be addressed?
3.How can we call this drama post-apocalyptic, when there was a world, a century and a half back, that survived perfectly well without electricity? I personally think, as the title suggests, this is just a 'reboot' of the entire functioning of the world, not 'end of the world'.
Fun in the dark, im not with you on that. It`s just things on this show that is so fast going forward, even for a pilot. The kid with astma landing up in a Dharma-station with a lady that had a son with astma is just too much randomly put it`s almost laughable.
ReplyDeleteSome things are cool on the show, but not that much fun. Billy Burke and Epsosito i good. Tracy Spiradakos (Whathername) is okay, a lead i liked more than some people that seems to hate her. I hated Anna Torv in the start on Fringe, but came to like her when the show established her as more and more powerfull in different ways. The rest of the cast seems like a lot of dead weight. And it`s sad to see both Elizabeth Mitchell and Tim Guinee getting roles limited to flashback-sequences. :(
I enjoyed the Pilot, but feel that I need to see a few more episodes before I can decide on whether or not this show is good or not.

ReplyDeleteI love Revenge as well. The Good Wife is a show I tend to DVR and watch when I have time., it's not must watch tv for me but Revenge is :)
ReplyDeleteI liked the gang: Charlie, Miles, Aaron and the doctor. Not so sure about the others, except Esposito he rocks at everything.

ReplyDeleteMe too! I think they have a better start than people are giving them credit for, but I can see it have the capacity to really build on itself.
ReplyDelete1. I have no idea why the pilot was only 1-hour long. But I did find it interesting they released the pilot weeks before the official premiere. My guess is that this was a trial so that they could check the viewers' opinions on the show.
ReplyDelete2. Well, it's way too soon to say whether this will be addressed. My personal opinion is that they might focus on saving Danny and the secret of the flash drive.
3. I believe 'post-apocalyptic' fits right in if you keep in mind that the world we know doesn't exist anymore. It's a matter of point of you.
I enjoyed the pilot, but I do agree with everyone when it comes to wait for more episodes to check if the story will stick.
A lot of "Dystopian' novels end up also being "Utopian" (Ex: Lord of the Flies, Island, Gulliver's Travels, ect), so I think even though there is a dystopian-post apoco, I think it's meant to invoke revival and finding something good out of the chaos that was created.
