Yes much better than Revolution. I will definitely be happily watching this one. Revolution has got to tighten up to be at this show's level, but I will still watch it too, at least for the time being that is.
Same here. I wasn't expecting much from this one since I didn't know much about it but it was so enthrall ing and has me craving for more. Revolution, if it keeps up at the quality it has been, I'll drop it after another couple episodes.
On the second view it was even better than the first time round and I am really looking forward to more ep's of this! My daughter, bless her was totally confused by it and may watch it again to work out all the kinks!
Exactly how I felt. I had mediocre expectations for both honestly, but while Revolution let down my already tempered expectations, Last Resort blew them out of the water.
Definition of irony: A submarine show about revolution and and show called Revolution that is sinking fast.....
Thought it was great. Just not sure how it could go more than 1 season. They are either going to surrender or fire off their Nukes. Not to mention, they detonated a nuclear bomb all be it in the ocean. That can't be good.
I'm having such problems reconciling the slick, big budget, Hollywood exterior and the complete lack of substance in the story. I think given all the talk and the kissing Shawn Ryan's boots that I was expecting smart and tight and well thought out and well researched and written. I was expecting Tom Clancy and I'm getting bad James Bond knockoff. But both are cold war relics, that don't fly well with our modern interpretation of the military and world politics. With Bond though you turn off your brain for just under two hours and ignore implausible everything and enjoy a good car chase and a good martini and go home happy. But complex thrillers that ask you sustain a mystery or nuclear standoff for months and (possibly years), has to be so much tighter in my opinion. To engage with the premise we have to think about it. We have to look at character. You can't just throw a girl in her underwear in there and have her do plot exposition so in case anyone was thinking of getting bored there's a titillation aspect. I wanted real military and I got people who can't even hold a gun. At least The Unit tried and it was smart and the characters were smart. In BSG, I would have followed Admiral Adama anywhere against any order because they spent the opening showing me how beloved "the old man" was, how he was tough and respected even by people who didn't like him--I didn't get that here. It took me longer than it should have to realize that Robert Patrick wasn't even an officer because he was walking around like he owned the place. And I can't see how this keeps going, for one I think it's gonna get really soapy really fast, but also how do you sustain a nuclear standoff against the whole world? These types of stories all have an immediacy to them...quick short rebellions, there's no time to explain, 24-hour timelines stuff where there is no other way, but it stops once they get the info to the reporter, or they catch the CIA mole or whatever, but open rebellion for a long time? Even if I could get onboard with the original ridiculously silly premise, how do you support the boat fighting a SEAL incursion, which is surely coming? Because once they've gotten their message out, it's time to come home and let the media and population sort through stuff, not wage war against the USA...cause I'm in the USA and I would really prefer if someone didn't aim nukes at us and threaten to actually use them after a demonstration of force. I certainly don't call them patriots...you didn't in The Rock and I don't here.
It's by far the best pilot of the season so far and one of my favorite pilots ever. I will love this show deeply regardless of how long it remains on the air
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
The best pilot of the season by far.
ReplyDeleteUnlike how I felt after watching Revolution, this Pilot immediately got my attention. I'll be back next week for sure.

This was my second go round with the pilot, can't wait for next week!

ReplyDeleteRevolution MAY get good - i t's just lost me so far. I literally fell asleep during the second episode a few days ago.
ReplyDeleteIt'll be interesting to see where the show goes from here. If it turns out to be a two-season show that's top notch, I'm ok with that.
ReplyDeletepleasantly surprised at how much I liked this. I was not expecting to get into it. Looking forward to next week.
ReplyDeleteThat was an amazing episode! I haven't seen such a good episode in a very long time! I really hope it does well because it deserves to do well!
ReplyDeleteGreat pilot episode! Great premise.
ReplyDeletecouldn't have say it better ;-)
