It was completely ridiculous and silly and a whole lot of fun. I did think perhaps there was a bit too much going on but I really liked Amy off with Lestrade and Neffy they worked well together.
Not as good as last weeks, but there was a lot of excellent dialogue in there which had me in stitches of laughter. The sillyness of the episode was great, although there was plenty for the adult viewer to understand, i.e. the threats made to Neffy upon her capture.
Not bad for Chibnall, a lot better than some of his past Who work. He needs to cut out the smutty jokes thou imo if he is going to take on Moff's role when he leaves.
I have to say I'm liking the new Doctor. No longer does he throw his name around expecting it to change the situation. No longer does the sonic screwdriver have ALL the answers. Also when the Doctor gets pissed, he can do real damage; like with Soloman.
"I've spent enough time with the Doctor to know whenever you enter some where new press buttons."
Loved the image of Rory's Dad sitting there, sipping tea, eating a sandwich and enjoying the view.
The actor playing Soloman was gooood. At one point I realized I was really pissed off at him. Happily they didn't find a way to keep him alive. He deserved what he got. American heros are almost never allowed to mete out punishment like that. They always have to wait for the villain to pull a gun first.
May I just say how pleased I am that, though the Ponds have taken up residence in their Earthbound life...the Doctor still pops in to say 'hello' and whisk them off on adventures. Another awesome episode. I can't seem to make myself forget that we're in the middle of the Pond swan song...Amy's "or vice versa" made me stop for a moment....
I loved the HAL reference, not so much the robots themselves in this episode. I went with OK too, which is pretty high for a Chibnall episode for me....mind you *everything* after 'Cyberwoman' is an improvement imo :p lol
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Awwww the Doctor's face when Amy and Rory want to go home :(((
ReplyDeletep.s.: OMG, the kiss between him and Rory was so adorable and cute :D

ReplyDeleteWorst episode ever??
ReplyDeleteMost likely

ReplyDeleteMark Williams FTW! Riann Steele and Rupert Graves were cool too but Mark's portrayal of Rory's dad was just brilliant!
ReplyDeleteOf course, Matt, Karen and Arthur were awesome as usual (does that even need to be said any longer - it's a given :-))
"And you Amy, are you a queen?" "Yes."

I thought it was an OK episode at most but then in came the Douglas Adams-esque robots voiced by Mitchell and Webb.
ReplyDeleteAnd Webb started singing Daisy Bell as the Doctor unplugged him.
Nice touch there, writer. Although the rest was still a little bit too forcibly random for my taste.
yeah, the "or vice versa" absolutely killed me. i was just like "why would you write that?! i'm not ready to think about such tragic things yet!" :'(
ReplyDeleteAgree completely, he's no longer the pussy Doctor who regrets the time war and is full of guilt.
