So apparently out of the two high concept network dramas (Revolution being the other), this pilot is more positively viewed.....with a much riskier time slot or death slot if you want to call it.
I thought it was great, although the story felt a little rushed, but I guess that happens in every TV pilot. Hopefully it will be more intriguing as the story progresses.
Hmm, maybe that one is cached or on another server. I'm not sure as it's not on our video player as the file was too big to load. It seems it's a russian site out of our control, sorry.
Made a decent recovery from a lousy start. Too much forced dialogue at the start. Seemed like they were in a hurry to give us some background. Made a 180 when battle stations sounded. I enjoyed it after that until the bartender ran from behind the bar to comfort a guy she'd known for all of about an hour.
Pretty good pilot. The three leads were solid, but there are a lot of unanswered questions. For example, what country are they in? guess ill have to keep watching to find out.
I'll admit I was initially only interested in this show cause of Autumn Reeser. And while she is definitely still a highlight for me for the show, the show itself is pretty damn good! I think out of all the new shows I was most excited for Revolution, but after watching both of these show's pilots, I'm much more excited about this show's rest of the season. Solid start, hope it keeps it up!
I really liked it! Great action, good cast and (potentially) interesting characters. The storyline is intriguing as well, and the CGI looked very good as far as I can see on my computer monitor. ;) It did go by a little fast, and I don't really speak Submarine (being from Holland) ... so I'll have to watch some parts again. :p But I don't mind. I'll definitely keep watching this one.
Didnt really like it, unlikely to watch beyond the pilot. Dont think the Thursday 8pm slot will be breaking its curse with this one, but then who knows?!
This was as expected amazing! A truly great pilot, I just hope it lives up to its potential and not's another strong pilot that has crappy following episodes (Awake)
Why isn't there an option above "Awesome"? How about "Hell Yeah!!"?
Seriously, I was expecting something great from the previews and cast, though it's not always good to go in with high expectations but I think it surpassed them... literally blew them out of the water ;-)
This is the first of the 2012 Fall TV Season's pilots that was good! Animal Practice and Revolution was mediocre at best.... Ben and Kate, Elementary, Go On,The Mindy Show, and The New Normal were just bad.
Honestly this was better than I expected even. I do like Shawn Ryan along with a number of the actors, but for some reason my expectations were fairly low after watching a couple promos.
While the premise seems a bit outlandish to me, it made for an entertaining and dramatic pilot. Some fun characters that were not just walking cliches like so many of the other pilots this year. Still a lot of familiar character types, but they had their own unique aspects at least. The series has the feel of a blockbuster movie, which is not necessarily a good thing to me personally.
If I look at the pilot as a mini-movie to set up the series, I think I can handle the blockbuster qualities.... I just hope it evolves into a series more similar to Shawn Ryan's other TV projects. The SEAL team on board adds a little mystery to the original cause of why that submarine was targeted. I like many of the characters and I think there is a lot of potential for a dramatic series as long as they don't make it an "emergency of the week" premise. Overall I would rate the pilot a B/ B+
didn't really like it i found the characters unlikable and already watch too much TV and have a feeling this will get cancelled so stopped watching halfway through
So far out of the shows i've seen this is the break out hit for me.I thought it would have been Revolution, but this grabbed my attention and held it like a good action thriller...A few bumps along the way but that's expected with any pilot, can't wait to see what unfolds!
I tried. I gave it forty minutes. I shoulda trusted my gut. I have no idea who I am supposed to even like in this process. The guy who wants to protect an island by blowing up DC? 'Cause he always puts his country first. The military guys who don't follow orders when we're presumably at war (I mean they did just completely illogically pick up a Seal team, so we're running ops into a foreign country)? The Seals they've made into d-bags? The bizarre plot exposition "see we're not afraid to show some sexy" contractor lady? Shaky "my dad got me this job and I can't even hold a gun but don't worry I shoot really straight" can't make decisions for myself whiny girl? The number of plot holes and WTF-moments. You don't own that island. You don't own that boat, the US government does and you've gone rogue, son. We can't let that happen. You threaten to launch nuclear warheads at the US, there's no coming back from that. Under no circumstances can that be a sustainable premise. The 150 guys on that boat aren't combat fighters. They couldn't hold against an actual assault. The Seals are the only ones with advanced weapons training and they aren't even on the boat's side. The military hierarchy is founded on the principle of following orders, once you step outside of that rank, command, mean nothing. So that whole coming into my own call me lieutenant was BS for the sole point of trying to make her look strong, but all it was was hot air. Too many holes with an unsustainable idea. You can't make the military and the government into bad guys without a really well thought out plan and message. This had neither.
There is a coup taking place in the power structures of Washington and the events in Pakistan is a wag the dog moment! The CYA of attacking the sub it just the method used by the conspirators in Washington!
The atomic explosion in the water 200 miles off the coast was just a warning shot to the conspirators. There was a new player in the nuclear gamesmanship!
Yes at face value. But big picture? A rogue power launched a nuclear attack against the continental United States.
He shot a nuclear warhead at Washington DC! That doesn't fly with me. You can NOT threaten to nuke the United States. International diplomacy, civilian casualties, environmental destruction, nuclear fallout, retaliation...how close are they to China? Pakistan has nuclear capabilities. Plus, we can't negotiate with terrorists. Military commanders can not run off and do their own things, we have to have control of our armed forces and we have to be able to manage our nuclear capabilities. The surface level of this show is partly silly fun, but where that leads is highly problematic IMO. And since they are taking themselves so seriously I can't appreciate it only as silly, cheesy fun.
Yeah, great cast right! more excited about this than Revolution! But to be fair i think i only saw one promo for this where as with Revolution i saw the same promo at least 30 times, maybe more!
Yeah I can only wish it luck. CBS is all set up to rule Thursdays with an iron fist. Going against the top 2 comedies on all of TV isn't the best spot for it to break out.
Let's not forget they (whoever's behind it in DC) tried to sink the sub first, for questioning an order received through back channels - and then they lie about it as an excuse to nuke Pakistan themselves. And they were about to blow crap out of the island with the bombers - and he was bluffing anyhow.
No he detonated the warhead. It was off the coast (who knows what the fallout from that is going be, I'm guessing France is gonna be P.O.'d and stay away from Atlantic salmon for next little while and well I'd skip the Jersey shore). And he had authenticated orders, he broke protocol by breaking radio silence, then questioned the orders, and then he questioned the DOD. If it had been real, you can't have officers making those choices themselves. But regardless of all that, he threatened and fired a nuclear warhead at the USA. Oh heck no. Oh, he was trying to protect the island, was he? That's great, what if he'd screwed up his trajectory and it had detonated over a populated area? What if it caused a ripple effect and China fired on the US? The rest of the world isn't going to sit around and let the US declare nuclear war on people or on itself. It was ridiculous. I don't care what anybody did to him, he doesn't get to threaten nuclear war against the United States. Right or wrong in questioning the initial order, if the US armed forces allowed rogue operations like this the entire system would fall apart, a lesson must be taught and swiftly and if we don't do it, Pakistan or China or India or N. Korea will. Cause China sure as heck isn't gonna let an unallied nuclear power sit anywhere near them.
Orders that came via a back-channel that was supposed to be a back up only and was less secure.... and instead of confirming through the main channel, they try to sink the sub. Then they claim it was Pakistan who attacked the sub and attack Pakistan themselves. So the sub should then sit still and let the US blow them up, covering up the entire thing?
They just can't threaten nuclear war against the US. They can go dark, they can slink home, they can run, they can abandon ship and try to make it home to find a news agency and bring it all to light, they obviously have government contacts--call them, call NATO, call the UN. I might even have been able to deal with shooting down the airplanes that were sent after them. They just can't threaten to nuke the USA.
What else would they to do? There is a rogue regime but it is not the commander of the Sub! There is a coup involved. The question is why the Wag the Dog moment?
OK let see what you are saying, The Commander is given orders but by a secondary channel. He asks for verification and was fired upon. The order to fire has to be from Sec Navy or Higher, Preferably the President. The person authorizing this action is not truly recognized as an originator for this order unless ALL OTHER ORIGINATORS ARE DEAD!
I wasn't particularly interested based on the premise, but, that was great. I can't think of a single thing I have not like Andre Brauer in. The structure was different from most pilots and it really worked. They didn't have enough room to tell us about everyone else involved but they gave just enough hints about the other elements of the series to pique my interest in the big story. I will definitely be checking out ep 2.
Speaking of cliches... I expected the SEAL team to be walking hard asses whose first act would be to try and take over the sub and make sure the missiles were fired. By the end of the ep I wasn't sure of their motivations in demanding to see the orders...and I love that they managed to do that.
I don't think you'll have to worry too much about the 'blockbuster' feel. It's doubtful they'll have the budget to do that every week.
At first the Shawn Ryan veteran actor, Matt Gerald (who was in The Shield and The Unit) seems like he will lead them into taking over the sub like you said. Then moments later that hard ass is dead and the SEAL in focus is not about war or wreaking havoc at all.... he is at the bar drowning in self-loathing and feeling responsible for some heinous act or the outcome of their mission before boarding the sub. I agree about the blockbuster feeling. I think it was by design to really inject the pilot with the needed tension and weight. I cannot see Shawn Ryan continuing down that road since his series tend to have such great character driven plots with nuanced characters.
this was surprisingly great. kinda reminded me of battlestar galactia and lost two of my favorite shows. not to mention that i really love serialized shows too.
Finally got around to watching it and I really liked it. It is the only new network show I've had any excitement for and the pilot was pretty damn good. There were a few cheesy lines and moments that I didn't like but overall very strong and Andre Braugher is excellent in the lead role.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
thanks, gonna watch now
ReplyDeleteThanks! Will try to watch later this evening
ReplyDeleteOoo yay non blocked version thanks a lot guys!
ReplyDeleteOoh,great! I'll watch in a little while!
ReplyDeleteLoved it! A little far-fetched, but really good solid pilot. Will can't wait for more :-)
ReplyDeleteSo apparently out of the two high concept network dramas (Revolution being the other), this pilot is more positively viewed.....with a much riskier time slot or death slot if you want to call it.
ReplyDeleteWhat wrong with the video, it was working perfectly fine before, I thought I will watch it later but now the video doesn't seem to be working
ReplyDeleteI loved it, although im not really sure who the bad guys are going to turn out to be. Loads of intrigue ahead me thinks?
ReplyDeleteGoDaddy is down which is probably where the video is hosted.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was great, although the story felt a little rushed, but I guess that happens in every TV pilot. Hopefully it will be more intriguing as the story progresses.
ReplyDeleteIs the non-blocked version not loading for anyone else?
ReplyDeleteme! And I want to watch it so bad!
ReplyDeleteMillions of Websites are currently down due to the GoDaddy outage.
ReplyDeleteIt's probably one of the affected ones
Did you not read the announcement we posted on Twitter? http://bit.ly/ROmK2z
Ah, right. I did read it, but I assumed since this site was working again it was resolved. :p
ReplyDeleteIt's strange though, because I just watched the Homeland preview from that same website while waiting for this one to load...
ReplyDeleteHa, yep. Some people can access the site, but some can't :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like where the video is hosted is down as I can't view it now either.
Hopefully it will be back later.
Hmm, maybe that one is cached or on another server. I'm not sure as it's not on our video player as the file was too big to load. It seems it's a russian site out of our control, sorry.
ReplyDeleteTry now Jim. I've found another version. just hit refresh
ReplyDeleteHaha, no worries. :) I'm just very excited about this one and it's almost bedtime where I'm from, haha.
ReplyDeleteIt's working! Thanks, I appreciate it. :)
ReplyDeleteMade a decent recovery from a lousy start. Too much forced dialogue at the start. Seemed like they were in a hurry to give us some background. Made a 180 when battle stations sounded. I enjoyed it after that until the bartender ran from behind the bar to comfort a guy she'd known for all of about an hour.
ReplyDeleteI thought Revolution was better from top to bottom. Except for Andre Braugher. Been a big fan since Homicide.
ReplyDeleteCool, no worries :)
ReplyDeleteHaven't had a good submarine show since Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea.
ReplyDeleteIt may be a good thing that Revolution is on NBC. One blogger said the show could be "successful" if it does a low to mid 2's in it's time slot.
ReplyDeleteThat'll be hard, considering it's up against Castle and Hawaii Five-0.
ReplyDeleteI went to that VK website, noticed that show Elementary was on there. But its making me sign up to watch it? Anyway around that?
ReplyDeleteNo idea. You'll have to ask them. It's nothing to do with us, sorry.
ReplyDeleteJust wondering how you got it to play on here?
ReplyDeleteI didn't get elementary to play here. We've only posted Last Resort. Whoever posted Elementary probably hosted it differently.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. That looks like a guaranteed third against those two. And Monday Night Football, too. And my VCR is broken.
ReplyDeleteLol, I forgot about Monday Night Football..
ReplyDeletePretty good pilot.
ReplyDeleteThe three leads were solid, but there are a lot of unanswered questions.
For example, what country are they in?
guess ill have to keep watching to find out.
ahh the sound is out of sync :/
ReplyDeleteWow OH WOW was that good! It looks like a winner to me!
ReplyDeleteI'll admit I was initially only interested in this show cause of Autumn Reeser. And while she is definitely still a highlight for me for the show, the show itself is pretty damn good! I think out of all the new shows I was most excited for Revolution, but after watching both of these show's pilots, I'm much more excited about this show's rest of the season. Solid start, hope it keeps it up!
ReplyDeletePlay it twice in two separate tabs, one playing slightly behind the other. Then turn off the sound in one of them. Worked for me! :)
ReplyDeleteI really liked it!
ReplyDeleteDidnt really like it, unlikely to watch beyond the pilot. Dont think the Thursday 8pm slot will be breaking its curse with this one, but then who knows?!
ReplyDeleteReally enjoyed it. Lots of questions and a few mysteries and I liked a lot of the characters.
ReplyDeleteFelt a little rushed but then so do all pilots.
Some good action and great to see Andre again
I really loved it, but that timeslot is the worst.
ReplyDeleteI really liked the pilot, going to keep watching
ReplyDeleteThis was as expected amazing! A truly great pilot, I just hope it lives up to its potential and not's another strong pilot that has crappy following episodes (Awake)

ReplyDeleteWhat a nice surprise,i cannot believe how much i liked this!
ReplyDeleteI loved it. I just wonder how they'll be able to stretch it out in order to last some seasons.
ReplyDeleteI was also very surprised (and glad) to find a non blocked version!
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly how I felt. I wasn't expecting to like it.
ReplyDeleteSo far out of the shows i've seen this is the break out hit for me.I thought it would have been Revolution, but this grabbed my attention and held it like a good action thriller...A few bumps along the way but that's expected with any pilot, can't wait to see what unfolds!
ReplyDelete..ATOMIC..SUBMARINE RULER OF ONE ISLAND WOOOW...AWESOME
ReplyDeleteI tried. I gave it forty minutes. I shoulda trusted my gut. I have no idea who I am supposed to even like in this process. The guy who wants to protect an island by blowing up DC? ReplyDeleteOoh, not the usual " US only ", looooove it! =) Tks!
ReplyDeleteThere is a coup taking place in the power structures of Washington and the events in Pakistan is a wag the dog moment! The CYA of attacking the sub it just the method used by the conspirators in Washington!
ReplyDeleteThe atomic explosion in the water 200 miles off the coast was just a warning shot to the conspirators. There was a new player in the nuclear gamesmanship!
ReplyDeleteI want to see it!!! I hate when people from outside of the Usa can't see, dammit!
ReplyDeleteWow! I thought that I wouldn't be able to see it cus I don't live in the Usa but I can, thank u spoiler tv :)
ReplyDeleteGreat pilot. I like a lot. Governal conspiracy and army is definitely my thing. Can't wait to see more from this season.
ReplyDeleteYahoo's site has updated it to be in 16:9 rather than 4:3. But still US-only. Any chance of getting an International 16:9?
ReplyDeleteUnlikely sorry, it took many hrs to get the original one.
ReplyDeleteOh well. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteIf we find another version online we'll update the post but we don't have anyone who has the time currently.
ReplyDeleteYes at face value. But big picture? A rogue power launched a nuclear attack against the continental United States.

Yea really good! Star studded too! I'm glad we have a nice person from Persons Unknown in the Cast!
ReplyDeleteThe Familiar faces help with me!

ReplyDeleteReally since when is an explosion out side the 200 mile free trade zone considered an attack on the US? No territorial waters were disturbed!
ReplyDeleteYes you can. And I am not sorry.

Since he talked to the DOD and said turn around the plane or I will attack DC. And then said, oops too late. Since warheads flew over Indiana.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised and intrigued by the SEALs too.
ReplyDeleteAt first the Shawn Ryan veteran actor, Matt Gerald (who was in The Shield and The Unit) seems like he will lead them into taking over the sub like you said. I agree about the blockbuster feeling. I think it was by design to really inject the pilot with the needed tension and weight. I cannot see Shawn Ryan continuing down that road since his series tend to have such great character driven plots with nuanced characters.
