Is How I Met Your Mother preparing for its swan song?

Although there’s a chance that the CBS sitcom could continue for a ninth season, cocreators Craig Thomas and Carter Bays are treating the upcoming Season 8 as if its their last. In fact, the premiere (airing next Monday at 8/7c) “is the first episode of the final season of How I Met Your Mother,” Thomas told a group of reporters on Monday.

  1. For purely selfish reasons I hope it is the last season so Cobie can join the S.H.I.E.L.D TV series as Maria Hill.

  2. This show has been doing the same schtick for too long, hopefully it's the last so the actors can move on to bigger and better things. :)

  3. With all the commotion that will be going on this season, I think season 9 will be necessary. Otherwise everything will seem to rushed. Barney and Robin break up with their partners, they get back together, they get engaged and finally get married; it's all too much for one season.

  4. I'm hoping, whether or not this is the last season, that we get to meet the mother at the end of the season. That way, if this is the final season, it's an appropriate ending. But if not, then we get a whole season to meet the woman who Ted finally marries and told this grand tale of all these stories to how they met.

  5. For us to meet the mother this season, Barney and Robin will have to get married by the end of the season, which is just too fast for them.

  6. While I'd LOVE that,I really don't want it to happen. Not if it means losing HIMYM.

  7. I am honestly hoping for a season 9.I know,I know, eight years is a lot, actors are tired, some people think it isnt as good as it was,end on a high note...i've heard all that. But still, look at everything that needs to happen in S8: Robin meets Crush again.Robin dates Crush.Barney is engaged to Quinn.Ted is with Victoria. Robin dumps crush,Ted dumps Victoria,Barney dumps Quinn, Barney and Robin get together again,Barney and Robin date,Barney and Robin get engaged,Barney and Robin get married,Ted meets the mother. There's no way they can fit all of this in a single season and keep the quality. Its way too rushed. Plus, with a S9,we may get a chance to actually get to know the mother a little bit.

  8. This would be so totally be awesome (also bring Son of Coul back for it too; I refuse to believe he is dead). Anyways, as much as I love HIMYM, its time has come and at the end of this season, Ted should meet the mother and B/R get married. Et voila.

  9. That's what I'm hoping for. Hell I was hoping for that last season. We all know its going to happen, and considering Barney proposed to Quinn after like a month, I don't think it'd be too fast.

  10. "We're writing this season like it's the end"
They should have done that for season six. (Sorry. I couldn't help myself.)

  11. The writers tried to get Crush for Season 7. He couldn't do the show, so we got Kevin instead. So we're probably just going to have to believe that Robin dated Crush during a part of Ted's story that he simply forgot to tell his kids.

  12. Except Crush Guy is appearing this season and will be in the current storyline. It just took Ted a long ass time to finally get there.

  13. They should have introduced her 5 seasons ago.

  14. I edited before any other posts showed up... Does it normally take awhile for edits to show up for other comment readers?
