Supernatural - Ultimate Episode Round 2B - Polls

28 Aug 2012

Round 2 started off with a decisive win for Death's Door over Heart. It's a strong contender to win its section. We also see Frontierland moving to round 3 while we say goodbye to Home in a tighter race. I expect today's polls to both be runaways to my chagrin. We also are nominating quotes from Time is on My Side and No Rest for the Wicked coincidentally. All quote nominations are still open so feel free to submit your favorites from season 1-3. Just see below. Poll closes at 7 pm CST. Happy voting!

  1. The first one is tough for me because it pairs a season finale with one of my favorite standalones. No Rest for the Wicked had the awesome Dean vs Ruby fight, the creepiest Lilith ever, Sam's desperation, Ruby's death (I thought), hellucinations, and Dean actually went to hell. Scarecrow has the brothers realizing how important they both are to their journey, the phone call, introduction to Meg, Emily, the scariest looking monster ever, and "I hope your apple pie is freakin' worth it." Have to think more on this one before I vote.

The second poll is the easiest of them all. I adore Bad Day at Black Rock while I detest Yellow Fever and its ludicrous, stupid plot. I'd vote almost any episode before Yellow Fever so it's a bonus that one as awesome as BDaBR is running against it. Too bad it's going to lose. I love Jesus Hunter, "I lost my shoe," Sam sitting in the hotel room while the air conditioner catches on fire, Dean vs Bella, "I'm Batman," the Rube Goldberg sequences, and even the fact that Bella actually shot Sammy. That's one way to get a fandom to hate you. BDaBR is one of my favorite episodes and one I go to a lot if I've had a bad day. There's everything to love in this episode.

  2. Didn't like Time is on My Side for the most part. It does have some good quotes though.

Time is on My Side Quotes

    16. Dean: "This can't help you Bela. Not now. Why are you telling me this?" Bela: "Because just maybe you can kill the b**." Dean: "I'll see you in hell."15. Dean: "No you're not because I'm not going to let you wander out in the woods alone to track some organ stealing freak." Sam: "You're not going to let me?" Dean: "No, I'm not going to let you." Sam: "How are you going to stop me?"14. Demon: "I'm telling you the truth." Dean: "Oh you are? My God then I owe you an apology. Allow me to make it up to you."13. Sam: "Dean, there's no way she still has the Colt. That was months ago. She probably sold it the second she got it." Dean: "Well then I'll kill her. Win-win." 12. Rufus: "You do her ear?" Dean: "Hey man I'll try anything once but I don't know. That sounds uncomfortable." 11. Dean: "Don't move." 10. Dean: "No, all you're trying to do is…is chase Slicey McHacky here. And to kill him? No, you want to buy him a freaking beer. You want to study him."9. Dean: "Please what. You've been killing poor b** for over 150 years and now you've got a request. Shut up." 8. Bela: "Dean listen, I need help." Dean: "Sweetheart, we are weeks past help." 7. Coroner: "Didn't you read my report?" Dean: "Of course we did. No, it was…it was riveting. It's a real page turner. Just delightful." Coroner: "Are you done?" Dean: "I think so." Coroner: "Please go away."6. Sam: "I mean we're talking hell in 3 weeks or needing a new pancreas in like half a century." Dean: "Yeah we can't exactly get those at a quickie mart." 5. Dean (to cheeseburger): "Oh baby, I can't stay mad at you."4. Dean: "Yeah zombies do like the other other white meat." 3. Dean: "You're not helping. You forget that if I welch on this deal, you die. Guess what. Living forever is welching." Sam: "Fine then whatever the magic pill is I'll take it too." Dean: "Oh what is this? Sid and Nancy."2. Sam: "This isn't zombie lunch. This is organ theft."1. Benton: "This whole eternal life thing is very high maintenance."

  3. This episode has some of the best quotes of the entire series. As an episode, it ranks right up there with the best of season 1 in snark and one-liners. Awesome quotes!

    :

    15. Dean: "Wow.
With just uh 30 hours to go. Hey
why don't we just make a TJ run.? Huh
you know - some senoritas, cervezas. We
    could…what's Spanish for donkey show?"
Sam: "So if we do save you,
    let's never do that."

    14. Dean: "Oh well, I'm glad my doomed soul's good
    for something."

    13. Bobby: "Ain't you just bringing down the
room." Dean: "Hey, well it's a gift."

    12. Bobby: "Well you've got just over 5 hours to
go. You're piercing the veil Dean,
glimpsing the B side." Dean: "Little less New Age-y
please." Bobby: "You're almost hell's b** so you can see
    hell's other b**."

    11. Dean: "So that's you huh. Our slutty little Yoda." Ruby:
    "Dean. Charming as
    ever."

    10. Dean: "She wants you to give in to this whole
demonic psychic whatever. Okay, I mean
hell she probably wants you to become her little anti-Christ superstar."

    9. Dean: "So is this your big plan huh? Drag me to hell. Kill Sam.
    And then what? Become Queen
B**." LR: "I don't have to answer to puppy
    chow….Sic him boys."

    8. Ruby: "Um demon. Manipulative's kind of in the job
    description."

    7. Sam: "Then what am I supposed to
do?" Dean: "Keep fighting. Take care of my wheels. Sam, remember what dad taught you okay. And remember what I taught you."

    6. Ruby: "Oh, oh you're…so you're just too stupid
to live, is that it? Then fine, you
deserve hell and I wish I could be there Dean.
I wish I could smell the flesh sizzle off your bones. I wish I could be there to hear you
scream." Dean: "Yeah and I wish you'd shut pie hole but
we don't always get what we want."

    5. Sam: "I think you totally should have been
jamming Eye of the Tiger right there."
Dean: "Oh bite me. I totally rehearsed that speech
    too."

    4. Bobby: "And you intend to use it without
me. Do I look like a ditchable prom date
    to you?"

    3. Dean: "Well this is a terrific plan. I'm excited to be a part of it. Can we go please?"

    2. Dean: "This is about me and Sam. Okay this isn't your fight." Bobby:
    "The hell it isn't. Family
don't end with blood boy. Besides, you
    need me."

    1. Dean: "You're not going to bust out the misty
goodbye speech, okay. I mean if this is
my last day on earth, I do not want it to be socially awkward."

  4. Bad Day at Black Rock is brilliant. Really great stuff. I enjoy Yellow Fever, but it doesn't hold a candle to BDaBR which has a tight plot and some of the very best supporting characters out there! (even though I never liked Bela, especially after she shot Sam!).

    ReplyDelete
  5. BDaBR is one of those rare TV episodes that I can watch over 100 times and still love it just as much as the very first time I saw it. Excellent from start to finish with top-notch pacing.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Pretty easy choices for me. As much as I love Scarecrow (it's one of the best from S1), No Rest for the Wicked is my vote. I adore this finale and it's probably the finale I've watched most. A super, fantastic, awesome ending to a sadly short S3. I didn't really know, up to the last minute, if Dean would really go to hell. And then he did. Wow. Gut punch.

Bad Day at Black Rock gets my vote because of 1) Sam and Dean fumbling around their guns, 2) Kubrick (so awesome!), 3) excellent plot, 4) Sam's good luck, 5) Sam's bad luck, 6) Dean's good luck, 7) Dean's "Son of a bitch!" at the end, 8) I could go on.

I enjoy Yellow Fever but aside from a few really good scenes, it's nowhere near as strong an episode as BDABR.

  7. I totally agree. One of the tightest plotted episodes, and funny, and awesome acting! I kind of want to watch it right now...

    ReplyDelete
  8. Wish I could join you but I have 4 alt universe episodes to watch. I think I'll watch BDaBR this weekend instead.

darling you and the quotes amazing

  11. The first poll was a fairly easy choice for me. But picking between Bad Day at Black Rock and Yellow Fever is difficult. I thoroughly enjoyed both eps. Yellow Fever almost won because of the ghost. They actually got me to feel real sympathy for that ghost. I almost hated to see him go. Also, the return of that creepy little Lilith girl. Every thing except the introduction of whatsherface worked for me. I let my fingers click on their own and my final choices were...

    No Rest for the Wicked
    Bad Day at Black Rock

  12. I voted Scarecrow because it's the only time SPN has actually manage to scare the crap out of me. And the episode's atmosphere is very unique with the foggy orchard and the apple trees.

I'll decide later for the second poll which one is better bewteen between "I'm batman" and "that was scary". Really great comedy performances from Jared and Jensen in each ep.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Easy. No Rest for the Wicked and Yellow Fever.

    ReplyDelete
  14. 1. No Rest For The Wicked- A season finale (these always win my heart over, except the season 6 one). I loved the action and loved Sam and Dean singing "Dead or Alive".

Scarecrow was a good season 1 episode, but not close to NRFTW in my imaginary, blurry list of favorite episodes (meaning I don't have a clear list, but I know when comparing episodes which ones I like better).

    2. Bad Day At Black Rock- So funny! And the kind of funny I like! Definitely a classic episode in my book. Poor Sam- I know how it feels like. I used to be so clumsy as a kid, and I didn't even own a dang rabbit's foot. lol

Yellow Fever was great, I also found that episode funny, but not as good as the other. The characters didn't seem quite right, and I'm not talking about Dean. Sam and Bobby seemed too "chill" when Dean's life was in danger. That's pretty much the only big thing that spoiled it a bit for me.

My fav part is Dean in the car listening to "Eye of the Tiger". lol And I love Sam's reaction to Dean sniffing the food then throwing it into the car (since usually Dean eats anything). Just that little minor detail made me laugh so hard. XD

    ReplyDelete
  15. I may not get to it either! I'm distracted by the awesomeness of Band of Brothers at the moment. :)

    ReplyDelete
  16. #3 is one o my favorite Dean quotes of the whole series, but it's all in the way Jensen delivers that line. Makes me laugh every time.

    ReplyDelete
  17. My favs are "family don't end with blood boy" and the "your almost Hell's b""ch" ones.

Bobby is so awesome and that second quote is so funny. XD
The first quote really touches on what family is on Supernatural. There's Sam and Dean, their parents- the "real" family, but there's also friends like Bobby, Ellen, Jo, Castiel, etc. who pretty much became family to the Winchesters and sometimes were better than blood related family to Sam and Dean.
And it's a quote that rings true in real life.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Don't be so sure. BDABR is pretty popular and in the lead right now.

    ReplyDelete
  19. No Rest for the Wicked
    Bad Day at Black Rock

    ReplyDelete
  20. I will be one of the minority when choosing Scarecrow, but mainly because it is loosing - i like both these episodes. The second part is easy - Bad Day at Black Rock.

    ReplyDelete
  21. No Rest for the Wicked

Bad Day at Black Rock and this one was hard because I LOVED Yellow Fever. Jensen was so funny in his terror and the cat bit and the tiny dog, but on the other side with Lilith was scary. But I could not vote against Jared and his facial expressions and I am a fan of Bella.

    ReplyDelete
  22. No rest for the wicked. Not that I didnt like Scarecrow, but its hard to vote against a season finale. And also, that SCARECROW! I hate those dang things. They're on my top 4 list of things that terrify or creep me out. Clowns, Ventriloquist dummies and those evil toy monkey things (and sock monkeys) rounding out the list.
Definitely Bad day at black rock. The comedy of it is the best. But also the discovery of more secrets their dad kept from them and an actual worthy human adversary made this episode what it is. Yellow fever is okay, I just cant say I love it.

  23. Scarecrow - one of the best horror-like standalones in SPN history; plus introduction of THE Meg, the one I'll always recognize as Meg, not the weird looking one we've been dealing with since season 5. No Rest for the Wicked would be awesome as a regular episode, but as a season finale it's just a little not good enough for me.

Bad Day at Black Rock - no brainer. Best comedy in SPN history. The pure brilliance of this episode is so widely known I don't even feel the need to write why I love it.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I have SPN recording on a loop with TNT, 2 eps a day, some I just delete, but mostly watch all of them. If I get tired of skipping commercials I drag out the disk and even though I have 2 seasons of True Blood that I have not seen, it always comes back to SPN first. Bad Day was on just the other day. The season I watch most often is 4. Just read in SPN mag that 8 is going to have Demons and Angels, since that is what I loved about 4, hope this is not just a red herring. I know you hated that part.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Easy choice: no rest for the wicked and bad day at black rock!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I am shocked and elated. It's a nice result after a long day and because I may be voting for two soon-to-be-axed episodes tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Agreed. A lot of lines I love don't seem at all special out of context but the delivery makes them outstanding.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Thanks! I love this episode's wit and snark.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Good choices. I love how Bobby is really a part of the family well before this episode but they officially acknowledge it here. "Family don't end with blood boy" is a true #Supernatural classic.

    ReplyDelete
  30. It's certainly not my favorite spoiler at all but if it gets rid of angels for good, I'll be applauding loudly. I'm kind of hoping the angels and demons kill each other off with the angels completely wiped out (or completely depowered) and the majority of the demons gone as well.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Well it looks like I picked the losers today. :( I voted for Scarecrow and Yellow Fever.

    ReplyDelete
  32. No Rest for the Wicked and Bad Day at Black Rock

    ReplyDelete
  33. Ouch. I have to disagree with that. I'll take the angels not coming to Earth anymore (minus Cas- who'll I'll take in any form so long as he remembers, is not dead, and not evil) but not wiped out. Inias. I like Inias. I want him still out there. Not enough nice angels. :(

Demons, less, sure, but if they do that they better make the monster creatures more scary. The Alpha vamp is awesome. Mostly, if there are more monsters, there has to be more monster-related archs to it. Monster type episodes get boring if too simple.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I felt after the brothers stayed at Bobby's for 2 months and he was in BUABS, that he was. After that I was sure he was becoming like family to them, and he turned out to be the closest one to them. :)
