S.H.I.E.L.D - ABC Orders Joss Whedon Pilot

Thanks to everyone who sent this in to us.

ABC has ordered a pilot for S.H.I.E.L.D, a live-action series from The Avengers writer-director Joss Whedon, Marvel TV and ABC Studios. The project is based on Marvel’s peacekeeping organization S.H.I.E.L.D (which stands for Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistics Directorate or Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division) found in both the Marvel comic book and feature film universes, including the blockbuster 2012 movie The Avengers, in which S.H.I.E.L.D director Nick Fury, recruits Iron Man, Captain America, the Hulk, and Thor to stop Thor’s adoptive brother Loki from subjugating Earth.

    I don't understand how a feature similar to The Avengers could be sustainable money wise on television.

    Investors and commercial ad revenue. I don't think it will be as big as The Avengers but it will probably be big, TV Standards wise. Will probably have one of the biggest budgets for a tv show

    Awesome news, i'm imagining a sort of Alias feel for some reason. Maybe an overarching plot involving H.Y.D.R.A. Think given Joss' track record we can assume, at the very least, that it'll be a decent program.

    Look up Whedon's Avengers short "Item 47" released on the avengers DVD. it give s a good idea on how you could handle the SHIELD show.

    A whole alien invasion crashed through the world, remember? There are superpowered people everywhere, etc. So you have shield team going case-by-case over strange alien items that fell into wrong hands, people discovering and using their powers, etc, with the usual SHIELD machinations behind the scenes, occasional cameos from Nick Fury and some over-arching conspiracy from either HYDRA or AIM or Shield's own rogue agents

    This idea is perfect for TV, it can by case of the week with S.H.I.E.L.D agents investigating weird shit plus a great opportunity to introduce lesser known characters from the comics. I imagine they could persuade some of the main Avengers to turn up every so often (in time for sweeps) and Samuel L Jackson I reckon could guest as well especially in the pilot.


    Also great news is that Jed and Mo are involved, they did Dr Horrible with Joss as well as writing the best Dollhouse eps and working on Spartacus.


    Now I am fancasting it with people like Anna Torv.....yep

    They wanted to make a HULK tv show, HULK isn't going to be in a movie of his own.. so yeah maybe they can include HULK... I like the HULK
