I knew "Nate" would be Maya's killer, but I was NOT expecting Toby to be A! Or at the very least, on the A Team. I was COMPLETELY shocked. Great summer finale!
That episode was awesome. Like a mini horror movie. Didnt see toby as the betrayer, but holy wow what a twist. Especially cause him and spencer ya know. Lol halloween episode loos good too.
I'm so torn. On one hand, PLL just managed to surprise me for the first time ever, and is in fact the first show to genuinely surprise me in a long while. I love a good twist, and I wanna see if they can back it up going forward. And then there's the possible character development of someone as closed off and suspicious as Spencer finding out one of the only people she really trusts betrayed her; or if Toby is even betraying them, or if he's gone even further down the road he started last season when he distanced himself from Spencer, by playing A's game to try and take down Team A from the inside*, is definitely a draw for the rest of the season.
On the other hand, this show was never my favorite, and my interest's been waning, especially this season, and now one of the only characters I really liked is apparently pure evil. Even if the show really plays this "Toby is A" thing as well as I hope they do, I'm not sure if it's enough to keep me watching, especially now that one of my favorite characters is now the villain. And not in a fun, Illyria kind of way.
*If you think about it, he did say he was going to figure out what Spencer was keeping from him just before he took off. Maybe this is his own way of doing that - he's got priors when it comes to going to extremes to get answers and protect Spencer. But maybe I'm rationalizing because I love Toby and want him to not be evil incarnate.
i feel kinda dumb.. but i didn't really quite get who maya's killer is... stalker not-real-name Nate A-team a.k.a toby ( DID NOT SEE THAT COMING) or the person who killed Ali?
i always knew that there was something off with nate and i knew that caleb was going to be the one to get hurt in this episode but i did not see the toby twist coming! I'm not sure if i like it but I'm excited to see how they use this next season!
Nate mentioned Jenna having seen him at the cabin the night Maya was killed, aka the place where the mysterious person yanked Maya off screen never to be seen again. That, plus his kidnapping, knife attacking ways really say "killer" to me. Not to mention, Mona wanted to set Paige up, which means she almost certainly knew Paige didn't do it, and if anyone would know, it's A.
Either way, Paige has been coming off creepy, and I don't like the idea of them selling that as positive, normal behavior from a love interest. She might just have emotional problems that she needs to deal with by getting professional help and will be okay later on, but right now her obsession with Emily is still concerning.
Knew it would be Toby. It's always the person who has the least amount of screen time. Nate=Derek from One Tree Hill...just saying. Still LOVE this show!
i entirely agree with you. But if toby is really and truly evil and doesnt love spencer i think i am out. it is one thing to build a great surprising twist, but it is not the same as picking a character and suddenly they are the big bad. It may seem stupid but their relationship and the occasionally cleverness of the mystery is what kept me tuning in. I hope you are right about how this all lays out. It is smart of them to leave it open ended because i think there a lot of toby and spencer fans.
Im disappointed we saw Tobys face at the end. It makes it hard to believe I'll ever see Sasha Sieterse (Ali) as the brilliant mastermind... Altho the possibilities to explore with Jenna are fascinating. I'm still hoping against hope we'll see Sasha playing Ali as A...
After Spoby did it and she gives him a hug, that look in Toby's eye was so chilling I knew it had to be foreshadowing something terrible. At least I can say that I didn't see this coming (not the Nate thing, I totally called that from day 1 when he came into the coffee shop). Toby is dead in the book series after book 2, if I remember right, so this will be all new territory, so I'm super excited about that. I think they really needed a shocker because of how things ended with that last finale (A LOT of people were super disappointed). Anyway, can't believe they managed to squeeze in a lame Ezria scene, that could waited. I'm so sick of that stupid relationship. Can't they break up already?
GAH. When Toby said, "I'm exactly where I need to be" I was like "Nooooooo!" That was the foreshadowing for me. It's killing me, though. Is there any chance there's a twist on the twist and he's just trying to help from the inside? Please?
It seems like every third teenager in Rosewood is some psychopath, for example Ali - she was strange, with all these games she liked to play and I thought it was really strange that she sometimes acted as Vivian, like she had two personalities, and I think it is strange and not normal. Then we have Mona, who is just sick, and then for sure not the last in the series but the last of which we know - Nate or Lyndon , I think anyone who has seen finale understands that he is a psychopath with a knife. :D And I think that anyone who is in the A team is not normal because it is not normal to torture these girls like that, I don't know what a person should do to me, so I would do things like that to avenge.
p.s. Sorry for my english, I am not good at it because I am from Poland. If you see some really big mistake then say about it because I am still learning english.
I dont think Anyone of us ever really trusted Nate. I knew from the beginning he was the stalker. As far as Toby goes, he saved Emily somehow. Remember that call they get in the end where he says, "I owe you one." I think Toby is the double spy. He's in to uncover the A-team mastermind, whom I think he hasnt met yet. Maybe Toby & Mona are together in this one, as she said in last finale, this is not the end. I dont know why they'd be going to the deep end like this. I sincerely hope and believe they're gonna turn out to be good people. Allison was a bitch and a snob and a bully but who doesnt have those in school? Doesnt give strong enough reason to Anyone for killing them off. She was killed for something far worse than schoolkid territory and we shall find out soon enough in the last season of the show.
So many twists and turns. I probably should have suspected "Nate", but I definitely didn't. I still can't get over the reveal at the end that Toby A's accomplice. I think I shouted "NO!!!!!!!!!!" about ten times and my mom came into my room and stared at me like I was crazy. Great summer finale!
Such a great episode!! I did not see that coming! I literally shrieked! Yes, the betrayer was on my list of possible people...but I thought Caleb would be the betrayer ... and he was so off in this episode too ... i wonder if there is more to it! But so glad Caleb is going to be ok!
Totally Agree! Plus they played ''In my veins'' when Spoby were doing it ... ''everything will change, nothing stays the same, nobody is perfect'' ... very omenous! So sad for Spencer ... she's sleeping with the enemy!
Nate/Lyndon being Maya's killer..... Had that pegged the second he showed up at the coffee house. As my daughter would say: He's a Creeper. He was just off....
The minute Toby showed up I was concerned. He's been gone pretty much this season & the last thing he basically said was " I'm finding out what's up." IMO (my hope too- as I like Toby ) that he is working w the A-Team to find out just WHO A actually is. He's just in very deep. I really think that Toby (like Caleb w Hanna) would do anything to protect Spenser - even if it means crossing over to the dark side. Toby didn't even talk during the last scene.... just that look in his eyes.....
Mona spoke to someone on the phone- probably the REAL A, she didn't seem too happy... then the next time we see her she is telling Toby (at A-Team Central) that "The plans have changed." The Real A is calling the shots, Mona and Toby are just REAL A's pawns.... RA is moving them around telling them what to do & whom to do it to. VERY interesting how Mona can just walk in & out of a mental institution! That is scary in and of itself!
Sad for Emily... they've all had a rough season, but Em seems to really be taking the brunt of RA's torment! Not a fan of Paige, as the girl is very unhinged. She seriously has anger/trust/violent issues.... and maybe even a little bit of a Stalker. I mean you can love someone from afar, but Paige has taken that to the extreme. I don't know that I trust her. Also, why was her thumb covering half the A txt? Was it me, or did that seem very deliberate?
As for Aria n Ezra...... bored now. Their relationship woes are getting old...they seem to be grasping at anything to make a new twist on their relationship. Again, Bored Now.
All in all was a awesome season finale....... looking forward to the Ghost Train Ride!
I don't know about that - the giving up on PLL thing, I mean. Taking your sweetest, arguably purest (in the morals sense) character and making them the villain can be a great way to go, and even though I love Toby and Spoby, I think that could be the case here. But that's if - and the "if" is very important here - PLL handles it the right way, and has it make real sense, the kind where you can look at his reasons and see the way he acts as A and then go back through the series and go, "Yeah, that works." I don't know if you watch Misfits, but it's sort of like revealing Simon as Superhoodie, but you know, evil hoodie instead of hero hoodie. It could work very well if they do it right. That being said, it's hard to imagine a way they could spin it so that Toby has been that evil this whole time. Which is to say, if they have a good plan behind this twist, either with him as a spy or with him as a very convincing villain (who apparently was willing to get his arm broken for the cause; that's commitment right there), then I'll keep watching. But if it was a twist just for the sake of having a twist we didn't see coming, well, that'll probably make me jump ship.
I don't know what's with my essay-like posts lately. Yeesh.
Is Toby really A - I know we saw his face when Mona back to the mental hospital, but at the ned of the ep they didn't show his face when he had his hoodie on
I must confess I was quite disappointed. The Nate revelation was completely predictable and the episode didn't explain too much more...although the Toby betrayal ( or whatever it is) was a shock.
I think the writers have no clue to make Ezria interesting. That's why they invent all that cliché story about the baby.Maybe they should put Ezra in the A matter, like Caleb and Toby.
If I'm honest, I was disappointed with this episode. The only part of it I didn't predict beforehand was that Paige would be abducted. Nate/Lyndon was so obviously Maya's killer from his introduction, and TPTB's constant tweeting about how big this betrayal is, paired with Spencer's insistence that Paige was A made it pretty obvious that Toby was the betrayer.
The Aria/Ezra scenes were unnecessary, and could have waited until 3B, but were included and overall just took away from the episode as a whole.
They were saying this is their favourite episode so far, that it was amazing, but it was seriously lacking in comparison to other episodes, such as 307, and imo 219. The Toby twist could be good, but I have no doubts that they'll use it as an excuse to completely destroy Spencer as a character by having her go back to Wren, who has done nothing but take advantage of her at every opportunity given since season 1. She's not a likeable character when she's with him, and she never has been, and it was actually her connection to him that made me hate her for the first episodes of season 1. They would be better off pairing her with Andrew, whom they are introducing for an episode, or bringing Alex back. I also believe that this will likely be Keegan Allen's last season, as once the girls find out of his betrayal, they will no longer want to be around him, and he will no longer be any use to the A team. This in itself is probably the worst thing about this twist, as there is potential for the character that will now go to waste.
i LOVE toby but i do want this HUGE betrayal to b real. if they went through all this trouble comming up with toby being part of the Ateam and then just saying o we fooled u i wud be extremly upset
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Toby is A?!?!?! WHAT?! Wow they got me good for the first time! MY JAW IS ON THE FLOOR.
ReplyDeleteI knew "Nate" would be Maya's killer, but I was NOT expecting Toby to be A! Or at the very least, on the A Team. I was COMPLETELY shocked. Great summer finale!

ReplyDeletestalker not-real-name Nate
A-team a.k.a toby ( DID NOT SEE THAT COMING)
or the person who killed Ali?
I think they left it slightly open with Maya. We're supposed to think Nate did it, because he was her stalker, but it was really Paige after all.
ReplyDeleteWas NOT surprised at all about Nate. In fact, what I guessed was going to happen was pretty close to what actually happened on the show.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, Toby definitely surprised me. Did not see that one coming.

ReplyDeleteI kinda expected that it would be "Nate"
AAAAAHHHHHH!!!I watched the ep half an hour and I'm still shaken up!Awesome finale!!
ReplyDeleteYES PLEASE. Frankly, I wouldn't mind Ezra being off the show all together. He is super boring and makes Aria boring by association.
ReplyDeleteIf Toby is part of A-team for real, I´m happy. I don´t like him at all :D
ReplyDeleteThat's what I'm thinking exactly
