One Million Moms, the organization that attacked JC Penny for hiring openly gay Ellen DeGeneres as a spokesperson, is turning its attention to NBC's new series The New Normal. From Ryan Murphy, the series follows a gay couple — Book of Mormon's Andrew Rannells and The Hangover's Justin Bartha — who try to start a family with the help of a surrogate (Georgia King).
On their website, One Million Moms accused NBC of "using public airwaves to continue to subject families to the decay of morals and values, and the sanctity of marriage in attempting to redefine marriage. These things are harmful to our society, and this program is damaging to our culture."
The organization is calling on sponsors to boycott the program. "It is proven this strategy works!" their statement continues. "It was not too long ago that NBC announced The Playboy Club was canceled after only three episodes because of lack of advertisers!
"Millions of Americans strongly believe that marriage should be between one man and one woman. NBC's The New Normal is attempting to desensitize America and our children. It is the opposite of how families are designed and created. You cannot recreate the biological wheel."

I hope it bombs. I have no hope at all for this. I rather watch monkey-humor on Animal Practice instead.
ReplyDeleteJesus! Would they just shut up already! Besides, advertisers pulling out of Playboy Club just looked like they thought it was too "risque" to take a chance on. If they drop New Normal they'll just be in danger of being labelled homophobic, which I'm pretty sure they wouldn't want.
ReplyDeleteEven though I'm probably not going to watch it, it makes me genuinely sick that a bunch of homophobic, crazy people are trying to dictate what shows the rest of us watch. They need to realise the majority of people aren't as closed-minded and prejudice as they are.
(Sorry, that was just a rant I needed to get out xD)
Hey,rant away! I couldn't have said it any better,thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteWhy would you want any show to bomb?
ReplyDeleteBranden really said it all! Don't these mothers have anything better to do,like bringing up there kids to be respectful and kind towards other...ugh,they are homophobic, and they will never change..
ReplyDeleteIt really keeps surprising me the kind of ass backwards people there are walking on this planet.
ReplyDeleteAlmost looks like a bad joke, sadly, it isn't.
"Millions of Americans strongly believe that marriage should be between one man and one woman." Isn't this discrimination against gays, bis and lesbians? Are we really still in the age of the world where being either gay or bi is "wrong?" In addition, "It is the opposite of how families are designed and created." What in the world do they know about that? They aren't the creators of the Universe, so how can they say that anything is "designed" like something?
ReplyDeleteIf I even had a phone number to these "One Million Moms," I'd give them a call and shout at them right now. Get off your high horses, women!
Also, at the end of this post, I would just like to say: THIS IS TV! Entertainment! Purely for ratings and for money! This isn't America trying to change the entire world, this is a show NBC is trying to get on the air for people to watch in the Fall. How serious can people be about a TV show?
To be honest with you, people can hate shows just as much as love them.
ReplyDeleteIt`s NBC. If the show bombs, the hopes for more Community goes up. Or at least Parks And Rec and 30 Rock will be getting more attention or budget.
ReplyDeleteI never said one couldn't dislike a show, but to want a show to fail before its even on doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it unbelievable that in this day and age we are still dealing with this crap. There are so many other things we could be doing to help people, people who need the help, geez!
ReplyDeleteSome people are to stuck in their own mindset. In the Netherlands we have a saying, that these people are walking around with blinders on their head. The kind of blinders you have with horses so they only see one direction and not what's around them.
ReplyDeleteI don't want to actually go there and call these people narrow minded, even if in my opinion they are.
This is also a very scary site:
http://www.circleofmoms.com/christian-mommies/my-son-claims-to-be-an-atheist-what-can-i-do-553108
LOL, there aren't even "One Million" of them! Ugh, I really hope this group goes away.
ReplyDeleteYes,they do have blinders on,and wow that web site is something else..
ReplyDeleteThe Playboy Club was cancelled because of it's abysmal ratings... And I have seen the promo of The New Normal and it will be cancelled for the same reason, the show doesn't look good... If they keep talking about it like this, they will probably provoke viewers into tuning in and it will result in the opposite of what they hope to achieve... And here's what I don't get, if they think that the show does not fit into their set of morals then it's their choice not to watch it, but why do you want others not to watch it as well? Others don't have a problem with the show, this organization does... Wouldn't it be better to just shut the fuck up and not watch the show? Seriously, these guys are pathetic, they should do something better to do with their time.
ReplyDeleteThese guys like boycotting things huh? I think the press should start boycotting One Million Moms...
This kind of organized bigotry is no different from the KKK but instead of white hoods they hide behind institutions like motherhood and manipulative terms like "family values."
ReplyDeleteRegardless of the plot, The New Normal is pretty awful and it'll bomb pretty soon. Yet, family shows are designed to moms and dads, and that's why they're so pissed.
ReplyDeletePeople should remember that OMM tried to get Modern Family off there air, and took credit for ANY advertiser who dropped out at any given week, yet the show is one of the most profitable shows on television.
ReplyDeleteI was going to "watch it maybe", but now I'll have to watch the pilot for good, just to be contrary -_-
ReplyDeletetotally agree .... they make me sick
ReplyDeleteHaha, in a way Glee is or should be awful for men. But they would probably get six seasons and a movie. The New Normal could end up being a better hit than Whtiney and Up All Night.
ReplyDeleteIt`s makes perfect sense when you watch a promo or trailer for this show. It`s a no hope-deal.
ReplyDeleteNeeded to be said, amen.
ReplyDeletePATHETIC.This people is crazy.
ReplyDeleteI can not believe these kind of things keep happening!
ReplyDeleteOK, not even Chuck fans were hoping for that when the show got moved to the Friday death slot. And at least Chuck didn't have to follow that piece of crap show Whitney.
ReplyDeleteSorry, but Community's on its final 13.
Funny how One Million Moms gets their panties in a bunch over a gay couple on the air, but all of the violence of the CSI franchises, Hawaii Five-O, the backstabbing of Revenge, and the sex talk of 2 Broke Girls are all OK as far as they're concerned?
ReplyDeleteI dont care for Community that much more, i see the season 3 finale as the series finale anyway if it get canned. Yes, Chuck-fans wanted even The Office and Parks And Rec to tank, so youre wrong.
