WELCOME BACK | How does new showrunner Jeremy Carver feel about being back at work on the show? “It’s sort of like having been a camper and coming back as a counselor,” he replied.

SEEKING POWER | The brothers are “starting the season on the offense,” shared Carver. “They really want something. It ties in very deeply with the mythology [and is] something very near and dear to their hearts. They are very much united” in their quest to get it. So what is the mysterious something? Sam, Dean, Kevin and Crowley are “all involved in a chase for a power source, ultimately,” hinted Edlund.

  1. Season eight sounds fucking awesome, tbh. Can't wait for it!

    ReplyDelete
  2. This is what I felt even during season 7 and see what finally happened. I would rather wait for more interviews from press room before deciding anything.

..A NEW POWER SOURCE exist something more powerful that human soul...find a new who would be that..absolutely over the top of ..///.AWESOME.///.this season will be ..//FANTASTIC.//

    ReplyDelete
  4. Didn't they do exactly the same thing going after the purgatory (power source) in season 6?

    ReplyDelete
  5. press room panels are happening right now so we should be getting more info soon

    ReplyDelete
  6. SPOILERS-

Cas will return in episode along with Dean and a mystery third character in Purgory

    ReplyDelete
  7. we will see flashbacks of Sam happy and have normal relationship-Jared

    ReplyDelete
  8. Jensen in the press room

    ReplyDelete
  9. I'm not sure how I feel about Sam and Dean being separated and it having a strong impact. I'm worried about the comment about their separation: "it had a profound effect on each of them. And each has gone a very separate way. They will each carry what happened in their [time] away from each other." It reminds me too much of the fourth season. I'm not ready to have another season of the brothers being at odds and one being right and the other one being wrong. I didn't like that then. But Carver did say that "they are very much united." So, hopefully, we'll have them caring about each other more this season than last season. I guess it's just time to wait and see.

I'm excited about the new relationships!

    ReplyDelete
  10. sorry should have said in flashbacks

    ReplyDelete
  11. the press room was so packed they had to move to a bigger one aparently

    ReplyDelete
  12. A YEAR has passed up top will Dean was in Purgatory

    ReplyDelete
  13. they will tackle where Cas went in the first few episodes

    ReplyDelete
  14. Dean will get out with the help of someone from Purgatory but he's not a good guy and wont be going anywhere either

    ReplyDelete
  15. Cas didnt abandon Dean

    ReplyDelete
  16. there are fewer cas and sam scenes than Dean and Cas because Jared makes Misha laugh too much to be able to get through a scene

    ReplyDelete
  17. Somehow I doubt the plot will be the same as season 6.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Jared in the press room

    ReplyDelete
  19. Dean comes back from Purgatory in the season premier

    ReplyDelete
  20. So another year that the writers will conveniently forget to account for time wise? Suspension of belief is critical, but really they should be in 2013 counting Sam's soulless stint and a year in Purgatory means they should be in 2014. Do NOT pay attention to dates on props if you want to keep your sanity.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I'm really nervous about the Having gone a very separate way. It is way too close to the fourth season. What does very much united mean. Having the same goals, but the bond is gone?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Jared-Sam walks away from the hunting life because there is no one left to fight for (with Dean not being around)

    ReplyDelete
  23. we can go emotionally deeper-JC on going new places

also there is no talk of this being the last season/there being an end in sight

    ReplyDelete
  24. Mark Sheppard filming Jared at the round table

    ReplyDelete
  25. cas will be back in episode 2 flashbacks but he will have some physical differences?

    ReplyDelete
  26. So that means Cas wasn't zapped out of Purgatory then?

    ReplyDelete
  27. various

Ben-I currently have a scene of Dean walking on a beach-cant promise we'll shoot it

    ReplyDelete
  28. Just Kidding, I guess he will bitten by purgatory monsters for swallow them up before :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. JC-this season sets up a storyline that can go on for years

    ReplyDelete
  30. It will be reaaaally funny if Sam went to Law school and got engaged to that girl we've been hearing about for the last few days.

    ReplyDelete
  31. expect more Vampires this season?

    ReplyDelete
  32. I don't think he means the bond is gone. Carver said the brothers' bond is the strength of the show. And since Carver did write "A Very Supernatural Christmas," "Point of No Return," and "Mystery Spot." I'm worried about the separate ways, but I'm not sure how the change is going to be. Maybe they'll be closer and talk to each other and we'll see the flashbacks that way??? I'm hoping the very much united means they're on the same page and helping each other. But I don't know.

    ReplyDelete
  33. it seems to me its Sam and Dean V the world but they both have their own things to go through this season too. The Purgatory thing it sounds like may be more about the upcoming mythology and not all about just Dean's flashbacks. I think Benny will play a major role later in the season. Not sure if Sam's year will be told in more than episode, my guess is episode 3 will be it but Amelia will stick around for the season.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Jared-Sam will have a tough time without Dean and will get help from someone in a similar boat (Amelia)

    ReplyDelete
  35. This is what I call brotherly love. Unlike many others, I don't mind if they are apart. All I want is they care for each other and miss the other like hell.

    ReplyDelete
  36. season 4 + season 6 = Season 8 IMO

    ReplyDelete
  37. just about to say the same thing

    ReplyDelete
  38. Actually the more I'm hearing about what happened while Dean was in Purgatory the more I'm feeling like season 8 is a redo of season 6 but with the brothers switched and a much tighter mytharc.

Thank you for the updates, tvmonkey. As a FANATIC Supernatural fan that sadly couldn't attend Comic Con, you have truly made my year :)

    ReplyDelete
  40. you are welcome

    ReplyDelete
  41. It really does sound like it from these snippets. Of course it's Supernatural so nothing will be like it seems.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Yes, thanks very much, that's very kind

    ReplyDelete
  43. Actually you are right, but in a negative sense. I expected season 7 to be a lot better. But it has gotten worse.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Obviously we're not going to know exactly what the story is going to be until the actual episodes air, but if these spoilers are indicative of what's to come, then I don't like any of it.

First it was Sam on his own in season four for 4 months, then Dean was on his own in season six while Sam was a year in Hell, now it's back to Sam being on his own for a year while Dean's in Purgatory! What the heck!

Then I don't like that Sam has given up on Dean enough to settle down happily with someone and just let things ride for a whole year.
I never liked the sound of this season from the very first spoiler I read and there's nothing up till now that is making me change my mind.

    ReplyDelete
  45. SupernaturallyMe15 July 2012 at 22:06

Awww, come on. Don't give up hope. One of the spoilers was that Sam has a really rough time topside without Dean. If he does give up, I doubt it was an easy decision. I see a lot of potential growth for Sam this season.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I can't wait for more spoilers! *thud*

    And later the premiere *thud*

    ReplyDelete
  47. I'm getting super excited again.

I have mixed feeling with some spoilers but others got me so pumped I can barely stay in my seat.

    ReplyDelete
  48. People can think whatever they want to. Not everyone will ever be happy.

    ReplyDelete
  49. and Sam is actually going to have something in his life to fight for again, I think that's great.

Besides I think Dean would want Sam to find hapiness and not fall into the trap of darkness, deals and such like last time esp if there is no way to save him or saving him involves Sam doing things Dean rather he wouldnt. Then theres the whole risk of letting things out if he were to break Dean out?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Matter of opinion. I'm waiting until premiere to decide to be negative. Until then I'll stay happy and excited.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Wow that dose sound cool can't wait

    ReplyDelete
  52. We don't even know if Sam figured out where Dean and Cas went. No one told him straight up in the finale. So he may have had no idea where to even start looking for either of them.

It would be hard for him to find leads and eventually he may have had to realize he couldn't do anything.

    ReplyDelete
  53. exactly maybe he thinks Dean is dead?

    ReplyDelete
  54. thats pretty much what a lot of fans are saying

    ReplyDelete
  55. If it is like a re-do of season 6, it sounds a lot more exciting to me.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I'm not giving up. I'll watch the show in any case, well on DVD anyway!

It's just that I like the brothers working together, overcoming their problems together and even if they're apart for some of the time, that doesn't bother me too much as long as one is trying to help out the other.

As for Sam's growth, I think the poor guy has had plenty of growth since the day he was born, I don't think he really needs more time on his own; on the contrary, I think the brothers should have more time together!

However to know that Sam goes off to live the "apple-pie" life and gives up on Dean after all the suffering and pain the brothers have been through for one another just saddens me.

  57. lostrocks4ever15 July 2012 at 22:22

would just like to say that... i made it in!!!! the panel was awesome!!!! soooooo funny, the guys are all amazing and next season sounds incredible.

    ReplyDelete
  58. A power source "near and dear" to their hearts? What could that be, Bobby's/John's/Mary's soul? Something that allows the dead to come back to life with no drawbacks? Something that wipes out any monsters in the immediate vicinity?

Those are the only possibilities I can come up with off the top of my head, and only the first two really fit that "near and dear" line terribly well.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Lucky I don't pay attention to props. lol But yeah, they should pay more attention to that stuff if they're going to do time jumps.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Well you have one brother living the domesticated life. One brother is is hell/Purgatory for awhile. That one gets out of said location via something other than their brother getting them out. 1 year passes and the brothers reunite. It's an inevitable comparison.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Everyone from last season writing team will be back this season except Sera Gamble

    ReplyDelete
  62. Someone had a theory that its Samulet.

    ReplyDelete
  63. That would be interesting. It is an amulet that was supposed to be able to find God maybe it can do something else?

    ReplyDelete
  64. Yeah, but, an entire season's quest for this tiny object isn't much fun. But, I always wished, Sam took that one out of trash. I don't know if I am happy with that.

    ReplyDelete
  65. The guys all together

    ReplyDelete
  66. But what's the point?
They say that in the first episode the brothers will be back together again, so the whole Sam/Amelia thing will have been for nothing.

Whatever the ultimate solution will be, she is going to be a mis-fit if the brothers go back to hunting again just like Lisa was, and Lisa was very, very understanding about the whole thing and yet it could never have worked out.

Then the Winchesters are experts in the field of the supernatural. If anyone could get Dean back, it would have been Sam; actually if anyone should get Dean out of Purgatory it should only be Sam!
I'm sure he must suspect that Dean's ended up in Purgatory anyway

    ReplyDelete
  67. I agree, as long as the separation is not more than 3-4 episodes, and mostly off-screen if it is longer! They can maintain strong brotherly bonds apart, and sometimes that stuff is more powerful (like Sam battling himself in the s6 finale to get back to Dean). I am so, so, so excited for s8.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I don't think Sam needs growth other than as a person outside of being Dean's brother and always the chosen one. He's had a bloody tough life, he deserves something for himself.

    ReplyDelete
  69. So far I like most of what I'm hearing. The part about them going on the offensive should address the criticism that the show was being the story of side characters rather than Sam and Dean's story.

I'm good with them spending some time apart. Honestly, I think the Sam and Dean dynamic has gotten pretty stale - it seems like they're recycling the same old jokes, same old bitchfaces - and giving them some new experiences from their year apart will change the dynamic a little.

I like that it sounds like they have a strong mytharc with a lot of twists and turns, and that this isn't going to be just a long string of MOTWs. So I approve here too.

I love that it sounds like Sam's character is going to be finally fleshed out and he'll be a human again, and even show some emotions.

The strong Dean-purgatory storyline will hopefully shut down the complaints that Dean has never been tied to the mytharc.

In the end, it's all in the details, but so far, so good.

    ReplyDelete
  70. JC is going to have his work cut out in pulling everyone together and fixing the bad scripts before they go to production. With strong leadership, we shouldn't even be aware that there are weaker writers.

    ReplyDelete
  71. SupernaturallyMe15 July 2012 at 22:41

So a monster is gonna help Dean get outta Purgatory? Hmmm. Curioser and curioser. Could it be Benny?

    ReplyDelete
  72. I'm hoping this will be the case.

    ReplyDelete
  73. The something for himself would be his love- affair with Amelia?

Both brothers have had hard, painful lives and both deserve something more. I just don't feel this is the right way to go, that's all.
    It''s already been done.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I can agree with that too.

Whatever it is, I think I'll be fine with it.

    ReplyDelete
  75. -Dean's Purgatory experience is going to be spread out through the season, its a terrible plight
-Sam hand Dean's new relationships will have huge affect on them through the season, they'll have things they have to go through individually
-their separation will have affected them profoundly

    ReplyDelete
  76. When all we have is a very sketchy outline of what's to come, everything always sounds like something that has come before. But the thing is, Dean and Jo was not a redo of Sam and Jessica. Sam and Ruby was not a redo of Dean and Jo. Dean and Lisa was not a redo of Sam and Ruby. So it's unlikely that the Sam and Amelia relationship will bear any resemblance to either the Dean and Lisa story of the Sam and Ruby story.

Same goes with the Dean/Purgatory story. It's likely not going to be similar to the Dean/Hell storyline of season 5 or the soulless Sam story of season 6. It's the details that set the tone and direction of the story, and we know very little yet.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Ok I'm off to watch Jared at NerdHQ in 15 mins, night

    ReplyDelete
  78. Are you at the convention?

    ReplyDelete
  79. Worse and worse, especially the last two. Just not what I expected to hear. Oh well! :(

    ReplyDelete
  80. Hmm. That wouldn't be too bad, I think. Like you said in your follow-up post to C P, it might not be as much fun to base an entire season (or more, given that comment about this season opening up a plot line that could go on for years) around just the amulet, but I'd be okay with that decision (at least until they screw that up, if they screw it up), and it does fit the details given, but it might not be the most exciting option.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Don't have to be worried about them being apart long on screen. Dean's back in Episode 1.

    ReplyDelete
  82. oh yeah, I know. I'm glad too, even though I was also hoping for at least one episode before Dean was back topside. However, with what I'm hearing about the use of flashbacks I think I like what they are promising to deliver better than what I was imagining. :) if that makes sense, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  83. That makes sense, but it makes me so sad... I always thought Sam and Cas would have made good friends once they got past the "boy with the demon blood" thing.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Yeah, but where's the joy in watching two emotionally dead people who have nothing in their lives but each other and their jobs. Their parents die, their friends die, their loves die. It's not much of a story if they just give up on living.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Well, I just checked out the article over at tvovermind.com and that killed any hope I had for Sam and Dean and their brotherhood this season. Here's what it said:

    "Winchester Reunion

While we don’t know a lot about the reunion between Sam and Dean, we do know there will be a bit of initial tension. Dean will feel slightly resentful that Sam didn’t try to find him, according to Edlund. Dean will essentially ask “‘why didn’t you look [for me]? We had a tacit agreement that we always look [even if we said we wouldn’t]’.” Padalecki also said that Dean will question how Sam just cut himself out of a life of hunting. Wasn’t he paying attention to the strange things happening around the country? For his part, Sam will explain that he knew there were other hunters out there to take care of things and he chose to do this with his life instead.

This struggle will have them grappling with the question of how to live a normal life in a life of hunting. All they have done for most of their life is be at the mercy of this massive duty. In a way, Sam getting out of hunting was the right thing to do. Living a normal life made him realize (once again) what he was fighting for all this time. That will, ultimately, make him a better hunter, Edlund explained."

    Source: http://www.tvovermind.com/supernatural/supernatural-press-room-season-8-spoilers-comic-con/#.UAM5GP-8Tzk.twitter

So, basically, Sam didn't look for Dean at all. He gave up the second Dean was gone. Huh? I believe the show has thrown Sam under the bus again. What the heck? I can't believe that they aren't even going to at least put in a line about Sam looking for Dean like they did in the sixth season for Dean or the fourth season for Sam. Do they not realize that this hurts the relationship and makes Sam look awful? Why would they do this? Seriously, they think that not including Sam attempting to look for Dean is a good idea?!! I was bummed when I found out that Sam wasn't going to save Dean and there was going to be a time jump, but character assassination? How are they going to make things look okay with Dean being pushed to his limit and Sam happy? Honestly, I don't know what to think about this. How can they ever make this okay?

    ReplyDelete
  86. hells_half_acre on live journal has kept a meticulous timeline detailing dates and times of year for the entire season. She uses dialog, props, and other details. The year between 5 and 6 really got messy (she finally made 2 one for where it was with the jump and one without). Now she has to deal with another one. I really feel sorry for her.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I am happy brothers are exploring on their own and agree with you brotherly moments getting stale. And also open to all new characters and relationships. Also I wish Castiel is limited this season too and hope that writers will seek an answer other than Castiel for this staleness.

    ReplyDelete
  88. SupernaturallyMe15 July 2012 at 23:49

Ugh. I know this is corny, but I hate it when the brothers have "tension" between them. I've so had enough of that. I hope it won't last long.

    ReplyDelete
  89. This does sound weird. Maybe this was just Dean's perspective and not Sam's? Kind of like Dean saying Sam chose a demon over him. I'm sure that's not how Sam saw it.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Does anyone know if this is truth? I only read it in one place:

"-Returning character most thought long dead from first 3 seasons will be a Big Bad as 1st season plotline intersects with 8th"

    ReplyDelete
  91. No. Sam looked for Dean but he couldn't find him. It's not like a regular demon or monster would know about this weapon of god.

I think he is going to be in a case and help this Amelia. And that's when he is going to meet her.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Can anyone of you make this clear to me?

HuffingtonPost : It's[Sam's Love affair not gonna affect Sam and Dean's relationship because Sam and Amelia are done by the time Dean shows back up.

TVOverMind : We will see more of Amelia in the current timeline, as well as in flashbacks.

    Who is right?

    ReplyDelete
  93. Kevin. Crowley is going to be searching the Words from God.

    ReplyDelete
  94. It doesn't sound so bad after reading the whole article. I think Dean will be thinking that way, that it is not the whole truth.

    ReplyDelete
  95. We're going to see more of her. That doesn't mean she is still his girlfriend.

    ReplyDelete
  96. People seriously need to chill out. Is not that Sam is going to give up on Dean and go live a normal life. He is going to search Dean and of course he isn't going to find him. First of all he doesn't know that Dean is in Purgatory, second the only way that he could bring him back is opening a door to Purgatory but then all the things from there would come here.

He is going to some cases and that's when he'll meet Amelia. And he is going to say what the hell? Everyone I know is dead.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Poor guy. Is not that Sam has given up on Dean. He can't find him. He has no one, Bobby is gone, so is Cas.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I think he needs more time on his own to gain some perspective, to know what they're fighting for.

    ReplyDelete
  99. It's not the same. Amelia isn't going to interfere with Sam and Dean relationship. They're going to be separated by the time Dean gets out.

    ReplyDelete
  100. It's not for nothing.

Sam couldn't get Dean out of Hell. Dean couldn't get Sam out of Hell. So no, Sam can't bring him back just like that.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Their separation is in flashbacks only. They're being reunited in the first episode.

    ReplyDelete
  102. He is going to be more like his older self but now he isn't naive and he has all these experiences.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Yeah I was hoping for at least 1 episode with Dean in Purgatory, but as you said, the flashbacks are starting to sound more and more interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Oh I know - now my only hope is for an epic brother-reunion on par with Season 4's Lazarus Rising. :)

    ReplyDelete
  105. I'm kind of bummed there weren't more flashbacks in season 4, at least of Sam's solo-journey. I liked what they did in I Know What You Did Last Summer, but I wanted to know more about his time alone. So if they do flashbacks through the whole of season 8 of the guys solo, I'll definitely be happy! That way we get the brothers together, but also get to see what they did before being brought back together. :)

    ReplyDelete
  106. I'm hoping that you are right and we'll get both sides of the story, but it still sounds strange.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Thinking about this more, it makes sense that Sam thought that Dean was dead, and possibly that he went to Heaven. And the big lesson they should have learned by now is that they need to stop bringing each other back from the dead. In TMWKTM, Sam would have preferred to have died rather than return back to the living with his Hell memories, but he returned only out of a sense of loyalty to Dean. They've both been a little suicidal throughout season 6, so maybe Sam thought Dean was at rest.

    ReplyDelete
  108. How do you know Sam and Amelia will be separated by the time Dean reunites with Sam. Everything I've heard so far points to the opposite of that.

    ReplyDelete
  109. But my problem with it being Dean's way of thinking is that we mainly see Dean's point of view and Sam is already seen as he doesn't care or love Dean enough by parts of the fandom. Personally, I'm tired of Sam looking like the bad brother and Dean thinking that Sam doesn't care about him. I understand that Sam has no information and no clue where to begin, but it doesn't make sense that he would give up looking for Dean so quickly. I had when there is tension between Sam and Dean and I'm tired of the brothers not seeming close. This makes it sounds like it's only going to get worse.

    ReplyDelete
  110. I see what you mean, but it doesn't sound like Sam thought much about Dean at all. It could be that they are just trying to keep us out of the loop. They might have Sam trying something or doing something. They might not. I think it could work if Sam thought Dean was indeed dead, but to me, none of the spoilers I have read so far has made it really seem like Sam truly believed Dean was dead.

    ReplyDelete
  111. No demon this time.

Ben Edlund: On where we'll find Sam and Dean mentally next season: "Maybe a little shocked to realize that in this profound period of separation, they've figured out how to survive without each other. That's part of it, a little bit growing up and realizing that they can't be the only things to each other or they have too closed a world or too closed an emotional complex. [They'll meet] new people, have new relationships, and are looking outward from this partnership that is both highly functional in terms of saving the world but also highly dysfunctional in terms of how you might relate to the world."

    ReplyDelete
  112. In episode 1 Dean and the mystery third character get out of Purgatory. In episode 2 we're going to see Cas in a flashback Purgatory, so I think we're going to learn what happened with Cas in that episode. No idea when he will be joining the brothers in the present.

    ReplyDelete
  113. This time no eve, no soulless sam, no crappy episodes from the writers of Ringer, no shady Cass, no Campbells.

And from what I've read Amelia and Sam are done by the time Dean gets out. But I'm not sure if she will be appearing despite they're separated.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Episode 2: Dean/Cas flashback
    3: Sam flashback

    ReplyDelete
  115. Quite frankly, this was the worst spoiler that came out. They need a big overhaul.

    ReplyDelete
  116. When we originally heard that someone from Purgatory named Benny was going to get Dean out, I thought that was code for Bobby. Now not so sure.

    ReplyDelete
  117. I still think Bobby is coming back somehow.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Last year problem wasn't the standalone episodes. Tes Season Seven Time for a Wedding was garbage but one episode doesn't ruin the shole season. The problem was the arc. All seasons have had weaker episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Well this indeed the worst case spin on what little we know. I'm confident this makes things seem worse than they are. I've not been a fan of Edlund's take on things throughout SDCC so perhaps this is not the well-rounded perspective we will see on the screen.

    ReplyDelete
  120. I agree. My brother feuding needs to stop. We've been at it since season 4. If they really want to recapture seasons 2 and 3 like they said, they need to stop with brother fights.

  121. On where we'll find Sam and Dean mentally next season: "Maybe a little shocked to realize that in this profound period of separation, they've figured out how to survive without each other.

  122. yooo hooo my day just got better

    ReplyDelete
  123. I'm not sure why anyone would think Dean was dead. That doesn't make any sense. If he were dead, wouldn't his body have remained? Wouldn't Sam have something to grieve over? It's not like Sam didn't see Dean pouf out. The logical conclusion would be that he was teleported somewhere not that he was dead.

    ReplyDelete
  124. What I'm hearing leans towards them still being together. Only Huffington Post is saying otherwise as far as I've read.

    ReplyDelete
  125. I'm getting tired. You are all complaining about stuff you haven't seen.

    FUCK.

If Sam didn't continue searching for Dean is because he couldn't find him. At the end of S7 he didn't know where Dean went. And I doubt that he can bring him back just like that. Crowley control the demons, so no deals. Death isn't going to help them after what happened. God isn't nowhere to found after S5. And now he doesn't have Bobby or Cas.

    ReplyDelete
  126. It was an explosion. It would make sense if Sam believed Dean exploded.

And either way he can't bring him back from heaven, hell or purgatory. No demons deal, no death, no god, no cass, no bobby. Should I go on?????

    ReplyDelete
  127. I hope you are right and later in October everyone who said this isn't the case can scream "I told you so" to all of us who are upset now about this. But right now, it's too late because I've already seen fans discussing how Sam doesn't love Dean and he was just waiting for Dean to disappear and die, because he is so selfish. So, I don't understand why they would even want to promote the show like this. Maybe they'll back-track again like they did last season. (Apparently, they didn't talk enough about Dean last year at SDCC, so they had to do a bunch of interviews explaining Dean would have a 13-episode story-arch and a secret.) So, maybe they'll explain this better later. I know there are a few more conventions before the season begins, so maybe it will be clarified. But it's already too late for some fans to believe that Sam is anything, but selfish.

    ReplyDelete
  128. If someone's body went poof, why wouldn't you think they were dead? They were trying to kill Dick, and Dean and Cas got caught in his explosion. Besides, going to Purgatory, Heaven, or Hell means that you died, just like when Sam fell into Lucifer's cage, people were saying he died.

    ReplyDelete
  129. JARED SAID SO:
    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/15/supernatural-comic-con-interviews_n_1674845.html?utm_hp_ref=tw

    ReplyDelete
  130. No you don't have to go on because you're missing the point. First, Dick exploded in black goo. There was no blood and no human or angel bits. Not even a paper fell off the desks, There was no impact point. Nothing was toppled. There was some black goo in some places - not even the majority of the lab. That was it. No way that spells that Dean imploded all over the place. Sam assuming Dean is dead makes absolutely no sense. Sam was even asking where Dean was not how he was.

I'm not saying that Sam should be able to get Dean out of Purgatory alone. He shouldn't or Purgatory becomes a joke. However Sam doing it with help, especially someone like Death, is doable. For Sam to not try to get AlphaVamp or Death to help would be out of character and quite frankly make no sense. I think Sam will try to get Dean back until he exhausts all options. Then he heads to a more normal life. Just because a Winchester thinks something is impossible doesn't mean he doesn't try. That's why I think this "spoiler" is actually a warped perspective of what really happens.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Even in Season 1-3 they had something they were arguing about. Season 1 was their Dad, Season 2 was little things here and there and Season 3 was over whether or not they should try to stop Dean's death. Just these things weren't as big as other stuff in further seasons.

    ReplyDelete
  132. This doesn't say they're going to be fighting. And it doesn't say Sam didn't look for Dean.

It just says that Sam didn't continue searching him. I'm sure he tried but couldn't.

Sam couldn't get Dean out of Hell. Dean couldn't get Sam out of Hell. It's the same.

    ReplyDelete
  133. More than half of the episodes from last season I wouldn't waste my time watching again. There were multiple problems - the season arc was only one of them. Characterization problems, lack of passion, and lack of imagination are three major issues that come to mind. BTW, while TfaW wasn't a favorite episode of mine, there are others from last season that I consider much worse. TfaW had some funny moments.

    ReplyDelete
  134. And this doesn't say they're going to be arguing all the time.

    ReplyDelete
  135. The spoiler doesn't say that Sam just gives up after Dean disappeared. Sam is going to try to search Dean and after he fails he is going to try a normal life.

And like I said is not like he has many options:

    - Death is not going to help after 7.1
    - God nowhere to be found after 5.22
    - Cass and Bobby gone
    - Crowley is the King of Hell = no demon deals
    - Heaven is decimated

    ReplyDelete
  136. Well he should know. However it seems like we are getting contradictory spoilers. Not just in this area but also in the brother relationship too. I'm starting to wonder what to believe.

    ReplyDelete
  137. With fewer standalones between the mythologycal episodes and a better arc it would have totally worked.

There were some really good standalone episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  138. Yeap, I heard. I'm looking forward to knowing what happened. First 3 episodes I will have a hard time waiting for (but that's not new to me I guess lol).

    ReplyDelete
  139. The spoilers in the brother relationship aren't contradictory. At least for me.

If Dean is angry because Sam didn't continue searching for him doesn't mean that their bond isn't strong. Dean is going to figure it out Sam couldn't have done anything. Dean tried to bring Sam in S6 and he couldn't.

    ReplyDelete
  140. I'll admit I was more excited with pre-SDCC spoilers than I am now but I've been a fan for long enough to know that nothing ever turns out how we think it will. Mostly I am worried about the writing staff not changing and am not happy with it sounding like Ben Edlund is getting more influential instead of less, season 8 being another reboot, starting with a brother rift, going "emotionally deeper," and Sam not being part of Dean getting out of Purgatory. I LOVE the ideas of the brothers being on the offensive, Amelia helping Sam connect, Crowley having an increased role, the brothers being personally connected to the mytharc, seeing more about Purgatory in flash backs instead of dropping it all together, the brother bond being "the heart of the show," the epicness of the mytharc being cut back, and Jensen directing a bloody standalone.

    ReplyDelete
  141. There were some really good standalone episodes, but we're have to agree to disagree that the arc was the only major problem. If Sam or Dean was written distractingly OOC, or was being written as being too dumb to live, then I had trouble enjoying the episode, and those seemed to be common problems last season.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Dahne I agree with you. In the finale, Crowley said he couldn't help Sam. But Sam kept asking where Castiel and Dean were. So, I don't understand why anyone would think Dean was dead when Sam wasn't asking that question. Sam clearly didn't think Dean was dead in the finale, so why would Sam give up on Dean because he believed Dean was dead.

None of this makes any sense unless you believe that the writers are either naive/stupid enough to think this doesn't (or won't) make Sam look horrible or the writers want Sam to be hated by the fans and are deliberately are trying to sabotage Sam (and by extension the brothers' bond) for some reason (either personal or story reason). Neither one is good. In someways, it's easier to believe that the writers just hate Sam because it's more logical to think that they would know what this would do to a character. But then they go around and say that the show is about two brothers and sabotaging one brother destroys the brothers' bond. So, even if they do hate Sam, it still isn't good to want to make him hated. I'm hoping something was lost in translation. Some of the reports are very contradicting. So, I'm not certain of anything. Mostly just disappointed and sadden by this particular spoiler.

    ReplyDelete
  143. There are differences of opinion and sibling spats in any family. However, nothing in seasons 1-3 comes close to the Grand Canyon rifts between the brothers starting in season 4. Season 4 was a disaster for the brother relationship. A vast part of season 5 was also, especially considering heaven and hell wanted them to kill each other. Season 6 had RoboSam for half the season, which despite being a fun addition didn't do anything for the brother relationship. In season 7 they threw in the hideous season 7 Amy subplot. It's like if they can't find a logical way to tear the brother relationship up, they'll just throw in a completely contrived subplot to give us that "brother tension" no fan I know of likes. I'm sick of brothers at odds. Besides killing people, it is the go-to drama builder in the series these days and it's getting old. That's why I was hoping Carver would bring in a new set of writers - not all new but mostly new. We need people who see drama as something beyond killing off a fan favorite or ticking off the fans with a brother rift.

Don't get me wrong. I think Supernatural does a lot right and I still think episode by episode season 7 is the best they've done since midseason 4. It's been my favorite show for 7 years and I don't see that changing in season 8. I'm not even pro-fanservicing because I think it has done more harm than good on this show. However if you've used the same ploy for 4 years, it's time to move on.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Crowley has Kevin, so I'm thinking the powerful thing is mentioned by The Words from God?

    ReplyDelete
  145. She puts it on herself. It's a TV show. They all get errors at some points. I have a problem with meta before I notice a date on a newspaper or something.

    ReplyDelete
  146. The Amy plot was resolved good. They discussed the thing fine. It's not like they were fighting like in S4.

I think you guys are being too melodramatic about this.

    ReplyDelete
  147. There was ambiguity in the way Dean disappeared, so maybe Sam hoped at first that Dean wasn't dead, but when weeks or months had passed and he hadn't heard anything from Dean, and he had no leads to follow and no angels to ask, he came to believe Dean had died? I don't know where they'll go with this. I'm just not ruling out the possibility that Sam stopped searching because he believed Dean had died.

    ReplyDelete
  148. I only said it could be one reason. The other one being that he can't bring him back by any means.

    ReplyDelete
  149. I know. And I understand what you are saying, but I don't understand why Edlund would say that Dean would be resentful and ask why Sam didn't look for him, especially if Sam did look for Dean and had no leads. That just doesn't make sense to me.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Yeah. The Words from God are probably maps or something happens if he has all of them.

    ReplyDelete
  151. It's probably one thing from the first episode he is back. We don't know how times passes in Purgatory and he comes back and Sam says he stopped hunting and searching him, it makes sense.

    ReplyDelete
  152. Some fans were going to say that no matter what the spoiler was unfortunately. While they are vocal, they are a infinitesimal minority and that makes them pretty easy to weed out. Since last year I've found that sometimes the fandom makes me enjoy Supernatural less and by mid season 7 I realized that that was my own fault. I was giving them power over me and I'm not going to let others ruin my fun. Now I have a list of people whose comments I never read. I see their avatar or name and I skip right over them. I'm finding myself a whole lot happier and I still have plenty of people who disagree with me to make discussions interesting. So take it for what it's worth but I didn't have to leave my favorite sites like some of my friends. By not getting sucked into the same old arguments, listening to extremists, or feeling attacked by thinly veiled comments, I also found I liked Supernatural better. It was a relief not to be dragged down by the weight of other people.

    ReplyDelete
  153. They didn't say that. Fans are just assuming.

If Sam went to live a normal live it doesn't mean that he didn't try to find Dean.

Fans are just misreading this whole thing.

    ReplyDelete
  154. I'm going to butt in here, but Dean has always had self-esteem issues and been insecure about Sam's feelings for him. An example is interpreting Sam's attempts to run away as a child and go away to college as a rejection of him and their family, rather than a rejection of their hunting lifestyle. Another is characterizing Sam's choice to pursue using his demon powers (with the help of Ruby) as choosing Ruby over Dean. This may another case where he's not hearing what Sam is saying and acting off of his own insecurity instead.

    ReplyDelete
  155. And both Carver and Edlund said that the boys are going to deal with each's other new relationships.

Dean and Sam relationship was too closed. They're cut from the world.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Most of that is what I like about the spoilers. There are a few things like the myth-arc being cut back that I agree about. That shouldn't be cut back. I love the idea of flashbacks- better than nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Where'd you get that? I haven't heard of it.

    ReplyDelete
  158. What I'm saying is Season 8 may not be as bad as Season 4-7, could be more like Season 1 or 3.

    ReplyDelete
  159. They aren't going to cut the flashbacks. And this myth-arc is going to set up mythology for seasons to come. Unlike s6-s7, they were both a one deal-off.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Here:

  161. Kind of like collecting the 4 horsemen rings. Get all the objects and together they can do something good.

Or in this case with this new power, good or bad depending on the person holding it.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Then I completely agree with you. We don't know anything at this point. I hope that it does get resolved right away (1-2 episodes top) and we get right into brothers fighting evil together like it used to be.

    ReplyDelete
  163. I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT ALL THE SPOILERS IT'S LIKE A WISH LIST COME TRUE!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  164. I really don't care what they do, just get back on the air and have lots of Baby, Cas and Crowley along the way.

    ReplyDelete
  165. I like your simplification. :D

    ReplyDelete
  166. I'll personally be very glad if Ben Edlund gets more influence this year. He's a great creative writer.

    ReplyDelete
  167. I left CW lounge for that reason, but I left with friends. Otherwise, I would have continued to deal with it.

With my high level of curiosity I always have to read the posts lol, but I try not to let things get too much under my skin.

    ReplyDelete
  168. My favorite seasons are 4 and 5 so I have to agree with you there. :)

    ReplyDelete
  169. I hope that's how it goes as well.

    ReplyDelete
  170. I just didn't like the Amy plot starting in the first place. Don't care if it was resolved well or not it was completely unnecessary as the guys had enough to deal with than anger over who killed who.

    ReplyDelete
  171. I would love it if you were right. I miss him already.

    ReplyDelete
  172. I like early Edlund a whole lot, meh about middle Edlund, and sometimes loathe late Edlund.

    ReplyDelete
  173. Yeah, them being off on their own didn't seem to help the writers make Sam and Dean more independent. They didn't go back to doing much research and doing things on their own. They didn't smarten them up.

Which is why I was upset over all the character deaths when it led to nothing better with Sam and Dean. There was no point.

    ReplyDelete
  174. I'm still a big fan of Edlund so we'll have to disagree. The 2 who i'm for having the most influence with this group of writers/producers are Carver and Edlund.

    ReplyDelete
  175. Me neither, but it was magnified by the fans. The bond between the brothers was really strong in S7.

    ReplyDelete
  176. I'm good with agree to disagree. At this point I want Robbie Thompson to write 1/2 of the episodes and Carver to write the rest. Maybe throw the odd episode to someone else.

    ReplyDelete
  177. Edlund should write the Cas centric episodes.

As of right now we these are the writers for the upcoming episodes:

    8.01: Probably Carver.
8.03 : Miss Singer and his partner xD.

8.05: Ben Edlund (a MOTW with pirate vampires)

I hope Robbie writes at least 4 episodes this season.

    ReplyDelete
  178. That's only if you believe there should be Cas-centric episodes, which I don't. This season needs to be Dean and Sam-centric. I agree about Robbie though.

    ReplyDelete
  179. Cas a part to play this year. After all is going to be Heaven vs Hell.

    ReplyDelete
  180. I'm fine if he has a part to play in some episodes but that does not mean that any episode has to be Cas-centric. Bobby had a part to play in many episodes but their are only a couple I'd call Bobby-centric. Crowley has had a part to play in a lot of episodes but we've never had a Crowley-centric episode. I'd much rather see that than a second Cas-centric one.

    ReplyDelete
  181. I believe the problem was the stand-alones. Too many pointless stand-alones like S7TFAW and The Mentalists and such, not enough myth-arc episodes-cause every myth-arc episode, I loved (all with the Cas and Bobby episodes).

    ReplyDelete
  182. Glad to see you're one of the "less volatile" ones here. I started watching because of the mythology. I know there needs to be conflict in the story and accept it.

I save my angst for football season!

    ReplyDelete
  183. Well said. I normally take things at face value. What really amazed me was how downright nasty it got after Jared's dog died.

Packer and Bear fans don't go at it like that.

    ReplyDelete
  184. Every season needs a Castiel-centric episode. This season is going to be 23 episodes.

And we need one Crowley-centric episode in case he is not what he seems.

    ReplyDelete
  185. We will have to agree to disagree because I think they've already had too many completely Cas-centric (TMWWBK) and largely Cas-centric episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  186. The Mentalists was great. But they should have done more myth episodes in between. The Leviathans were presented as the ultimate threat and the boys were doing cases like nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  187. TMWWBK is one of the greatest episodes of Supernatural. We are going to need episodes with Castiel dealing with what's left of Heaven.

    ReplyDelete
  188. I wish for a few more characters and a good driving myth arc.

    ReplyDelete
  189. Benny and Amelia. And we're going to see more of Sheriff Mills, Garth and Charlie.

Carver: "The storylines we have set up for this year, sets up the show for years to come."

    ReplyDelete
  190. So true. The Supernatural fandom can do amazing things but it can also tear itself apart just as quickly, especially during hellatus. If the fandom is getting people down about Supernatural, then for me it's better to skip that part of the fandom and keep my favorite shows and my favorite websites.

    ReplyDelete
  191. I am really glad that this doesn't stagnate on just one character. I can't really understand, what they are going to do, with this season's' long arc. May be after spoilers from first episode. B
