  1. Great. I hope NBC doesn't cancel this.

  2. I don't understand, how can anyone judge the entire series by looking at its pilot. I don't know, how much was Supernatural pilot able to impress the critics. Supernatural pilot was not really a great episode and the series got better and better. I hope its the same with Revolution too. Critical reviews are not very favorable from above. I reason for this may be two things: 1. They didn't really like the pilot 2. Everybody are under the impression that its a goner after 1 or 2 seasons just like the previous post-apocalyptic shows. So, they are fearing how far this would thrive, in spite of good quality.

  3. Most Pilots tend to be bad to mediocre. Exception to that rule was Lost, so now everyone keeps comparing it to that. It is not fair, give a show a chance. :-)

  4. I'm so freaking excited about this show, just can't wait!

  5. There will always be naysayers, and people are always going to compare it to Lost,or something else,i learned to tune them out and judge for myself..Now watch this turns out to be crazy good and because of all the naysayers the show gets cancelled....

  6. I agree on every point. I also think that the more modern way to tell stories in television, like good novels, is about taking the time to get to know the characters. I don't understand why anyone who is going to watch a serialized show thinks they should necessarily know the characters in an hours time. -But that being said, being a Bad Robot fan, I already can tell just from the trailers what kind of characters they are. I can tell Charlie is fierce, warm, fiery and full of passion (Sydney Bristow/Kate Austen), and Danny has a bit of that too, but I see Miles as cool as cucumber character-very emotionally self controlled (Blue Olivia, Jack Sheppherd, Juliet Burke), which at times could make him look dubious. Captian Neville I think is a guy who's trying to do his job, but I think he's a little torn about doing the right thing (Ben Linus, Marcus Dixon, John Locke, Philip Broyles) , because he 1. Authoritative issues and 2. He cares about the truth, but doesn't necessarily know what it is. 3.He might be somebody who is missing his family or lost his family, and doing this job (maintaining order) is all he has left to kept him from falling apart, or is the only way to find them.

  7. And I am sorry, -for the slew of Collider reviews it is just "Cult" and not The Cult.

  8. Yep,you nailed em perfectly!

  9. Great job about the characters. I would like to add one more point. Obviously, every pilot of the shows based on post-apocalyptic world looks almost the same. We have to decide the quality of these shows based on their progress. That is where they all take different paths. I find it bit foolish when reviewers say, its like Terra Nova or Walking Dead, because that's no surprising. We obviously find mostly destruction and similar dialogue in the pilots.

  10. I heard it's like Terra Nova in the future (bad casrting, stupid premise, no interesting plot) but who cares :)

  11. Really? Bad casting? So I suppose you're not a big fan of Gus (Giancarlo Esposito) from Breaking Bad?

  12. This show will be a HUGE HIT no doubt.

The plot is similar to other shows.Hope is luckier.

  14. One swallow does not a summer make :) Jorge Garcia in Alcatraz or

Zeljko Ivanek in The Event are examples of that. Sad but true, I don't understand why Esposito made such a big mistake... :(

but of course I wouldn't mind being surprised ;)

  15. Agreed! --They're always the way a story is told, they way things feel, sound, look that all make up a stylization to something and in some cases that can really make a difference.

  16. "I don't understand why Esposito made such a big mistake..."
The only mistake I see is someone having their mind made up without even seeing the pilot. I'm not expecting "Breaking Lost: The Wire Shield of Damages," but at the very least note that it's from great producers, so it at least has a chance.

The Event had no pedigree as far as I could tell, and Alcatraz had great intense violence (the villains were fun) but otherwise the whole story was crap. I'm not entirely sold on Revolution's concept either, but I'm going to give it a chance BEFORE I immediately dismiss the combined work of so many people who've brought me great entertainment before. I also wasn't entirely sold on the concept of a middle-aged cancer patient selling drugs out of an RV either, and look how that turned out. (Admittedly, I don't expect another surprise like THAT, but you get my drift.)

  17. I really wish I spoke English fluently, because it could be a great conversation. :) I have to admit that I've written those comments because I wanted people to react and read something new about the show... Well, I'm not Ben Linus yet so I have to write something on my own :D
I don't want to pretend a bigger expert in TV shows than you, because as far as I know, you're deeper in the topic than me... But I've been observing sci-fi/fantasy/drama TV shows for quite a long time and Revolution has made every single mistake, that was already done by these shows, which DID disappoint. The Event - unlogical concept (what has the lack of electricity to do with weapon?), inexperienced cast (well, with an exception); Terra Nova - all about family, no interesting plot etc... Breaking Bad doesn't suit here at all! I started to watch it three years after the premiere, so I can't tell you whether I was sold or not, but after seeing some old trailers I can say, that the premise was much more interesting. You don't have to have a global conspiracy to make the show interesting.
And BTW. J.J. Abrams is no authority for me.

  18. I think it depends on what you watch shows for. For me I am a BIG Bad Robot fan, and it's because they do what they do, and the way they do it.

Don't get me wrong, I think Alcatraz could have been executed a little better, but I also think shows on regular TV coming in mid-season with only 13 episodes, has a negative stigma, and additionally I don't think 13 episodes is enough time for this style of story telling, considering they stay with the pg14 rating. I think if they would have had the full 22 episode order and would have gotten a little further away from it's sudo-procedural style (which they said they were going to), then I think we could gotten in a little deeper with all the characters and paved way the mysteries centered around Simmons and Mr. K. -I think holding off on Rebecca's back story is what really hurt it.
Bad Robot uses unique circumstances like a mirror and an engine to show multiple angles of an idea. It's VERY comparative writing to reflect the complications and the commonality in being human. So all their shows IMO are dramas with various mixed elements of other genre's sown together to tell an anthological story specifically homing in on an idea (Which I think all their ideas relate and can be seen in each other). I think the problem is that people that are going to be watching conceptual serialized shows have an expectation of shock and awe factor, not in terms of mystery, but in terms of graphic scenes thanks to the cable networks.
On another note I think a lot of people feel disappointed in LOST and their interpretation to the ending leaves them hanging (not me, my interpretation leaves me beyond satisfied-as I see it as a great master piece philosophically), and so there is also a stigma to not invest in another Bad Robot mystery series of any kind, because people felt they didn't get what they wanted.
But for me, I love their characters and the way their stories unfold. The way that there are more questions to ask, and more perspectives to consider. I hate having things over spelled out for me, and I hate for their not to be fluidity in exploration. I watch shows because I want to be philosophically challenged and because I want to be able to feel for humanity.

  19. You have some valid points. And I suppose that's where it's different for me. I love Fringe and Person of Interest, and while Lost didn't live up to expectations in certain ways, all three are great examples of quality television in their own right. But really, Abrams is the producer in this situation, it's Kripke, the creator of my favorite show, Supernatural, who is at the helm. Which makes everything THAT MUCH MORE terrifying. I don't want his next show to fail, and I do see what you mean about making all the bad choices that Terra Nova did, but I'm hoping that it feels differently, and these things are better explained. (I think the lack of metal weaponry is more due to the lack of ability to manufacture/distribute them easily, so they had to incorporate more of the older tools into their daily use) ... I kinda wish it had a different premise as well, but it's got Kripke, Abrams, and Jon Favreau (a film director noted for Iron Man, and a few other really great action movies)...I hope that it's got depth to it. That's what I want: depth. Action, legitimate mystery...I don't know if this will have that, but I have to hope. :)

Also, Breaking Bad fits in just fine...It was about impressions based on a show I had yet to see much about. I like all kinds of tv shows, not just fantasy/sci-Fi. I just want to see a good Sci-Fi show work out on network tv. It's a huge risk they are taking on at NBC (since it's a failing channel) and since all the shows like it have been subpar to terrible as well. I just hope for something different this time.

  22. I disgreaa about Abrams again specifically because of the stylization. His writers write characters that have similarities with other characters from both with in each work and the works all together. Things that don't make seem to get used else where

Ex: The last unaired episode of Undercovers titled "The Reason" was going to take place in Dubai.....Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol has a primary cinematic piece of it's story centered in Dubai - additionally MI:GP focuses on many members of the IMF world an explores "the reason" why any of them went on this mission. --Another Ex: MI: III goes about it's time frame the same way most episodes of Alias do, including the Pilot which also has it's main protagonist Sydney Bristow tied to the chair in from of the enemy and works it's way back to a love interest whom was in the medical profession, like Ethan's fiance. (The difference is Danny dies straight away on Alias). Another Ex: In Felicity there is character named Julie Emmeric who was adopted, she seeks out her parents, who don't really want anything to do with her, until her biological needs a Kidney....John Lock is similar but opposite, as his parents seek him out. Ex: I knew that Peter was set up to be a Desmond like character at the beginning of Season 3 (Olivia and Penny are both blonds with straight hair who drive the characters to rise to the occations to save themselves-including specifically time travel/ time line rearranging), and low and behold, HIC now comes along to play a future Peter-esque counter part.

The company has a style and a way they tell stories, just as someone like Hitchock or Charles Dickens does, there are messages there. The writers all go out of their way
