  5. Is this what's being shown ahead of The Dark Knight Rises?

  6. The music is from Lord of the Rings! The part after Gandalf died in FotR.

  7. Interesting take on a trailer for this iconic character. I like the LotR music playing in the background, but the images don't reek of anything that I recall from the lore, but will wait to see if that bodes a good or a bad thing....

  8. Having seen the proper trailer from SDCC I can tell you it looks incredible

  9. This looks really great, like the potential to reboot the series in a way that Superman Returns failed to do.

  10. I loved the bit with the kid dressed up like Superman in the jeans and cape. So cute (well not as cute as Henry Cavill, but still adorable).

  11. Superman is not a dark/gritty superhero like batman, he is the opposite of batman. Stop trying to recreate batman. I see this tanking, it will make a lot of money probably but as far as like reviews go... i don't think it will fair well.

  12. I didn't like, I hope to see something better!

  13. Nice. I'm really hoping these will come out great, given the disappointment of "Superman Returns." The Green Lantern movie was so thoroughly muffed, too, it's about time another DC hero besides Batman gets a treatment that can match what Marvel films have done.

  14. I think they have sucked enough blood from the Superman franchise. There are lots of minor super-heroes that they could concentrate on.
The problem is that Hollywood can't seem to make a good superhero film any more. The discovery of "special effects " has taken away time from characterization and the need for an enthralling story-line.
    Sometimes simpler is better.

  15. For all we know, the film itself could be great but this trailer is godawful. Tries way too hard to appear dark and broody, but the Terrence Malick-aping aesthetic is a terrible fit for Superman. Honestly, I was reminded of Bryan Singer's equally dour-looking "Superman Returns", which is not a comparison these guys want.

  16. I like it.

Singer has tried the "traditional spandex lighthearted superman" and his try has proved the world that everyone is tired of "traditional" superman and that something needs to change.

DC's characters have had a very hard time to "update" themselves with times and Marvel, frankly was far more successful at that. Superman is one character who changed the least, thus the problems.

I just hope that it won't be as pseudo-political as Nolan's Batman trilogy was. Add more realism to Superman, but retain what makes Superman what it is.

  19. Oh man, this has Christopher Nolan's influence all over it. I want the trailer!

I'm as big comic book geek as they come but unlike some people i know; I'm going to reserve my judgment. I will say that I do trust in Nolen's abilities. Some quick comments/concerns:

    1) The images of the fishing boat and the coast. Looks they're moving away from the Kansas farm boy origins and turning it into the Kents as a maritime fishing family. To me its no big deal but I can see how some might be bothered by it.

    2) The use of the Lord of the Rings music does bother me. It suggests that Nolen and Zimmer don't intend to use any John Williams. That does upset me. The John Williams Superman theme is the THE Superman music. Its iconic and enduring. I agree that Hans Zimmer has done a fine job with Batman/The Dark Knight. Its good stuff. But its not iconic. It doesn't evoke the image of Batman in the same was as William's theme does Superman. They don't compare. And before anybody retorts that its a reboot; therefore it must be original etc etc. I say that I reject that argument entirely. James Bond has endured for decades in several incarnations, through several reboots of the character and the music has endured..

    On the whole; interesting teaser.

  22. If the best the teaser is coming up with is a nolanized version of the antithesis of Batman and nothing that alludes to the source material, well, then the movie is going to be a lame...

    Not convinced of this approach...
