TNT has ordered a pilot for the action-packed drama series The Last Ship, based on the popular novel by William Brinkley and executive-produced by blockbuster filmmaker Michael Bay (Transformers). The project comes to TNT from Platinum Dunes partners Brad Fuller and Andrew Form, whose credits include A Nightmare on Elm Street and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, with showrunner Hank Steinberg (Without a Trace) and Steven Kane (The Closer) also serving as executive producers. Steinberg and Kane wrote the pilot script.
In The Last Ship, a global catastrophe nearly obliterates the earth’s population, forcing the crew of a naval destroyer to confront the reality of their new existence in a world where they are among the only survivors.
“The book The Last Ship is a gripping page-turner that has all the makings of a terrific television drama, including a great premise, memorable characters, intense situations and heart-racing action,” said Michael Wright, president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). “We believe this show will take viewers on a thrilling ride and fits perfectly with TNT’s expanding line-up of original dramas. We look forward to working with Michael Bay and The Last Ship‘s outstanding production team.”

I'm feeling a very important OTP in this show with that title xD~ ,no,srsly, seems interesting.
ReplyDeletePilot: Everything explodes. The end.
ReplyDeleteYou forgot helicopters flying in the sunset, soldiers running towards their planes, juvenile humor, car chases/crashes and a camera that cannot stand still for 2 seconds. All that in slow-mo with about a dozen 360 shots each time.
ReplyDeleteNo seriously, not all of Michael Bay is bad, I even think The Rock and The Island are great action films (The Island is quite underrated and it's a shame that's the one Michael Bay film that flopped at the US box-office). And I dislike the Transformers series, it's flawed on nearly every aspect, but Transformers 3 has to have the most destruction I've ever seen on film : skyscrapers, roads, it's complete chaos for the 60-minute final action scene. I can't imagine what it's like to see that in IMAX.
And you have to acknowledge that his films have epic music, the soundtracks of most of Michael Bay's films are pretty cool : Hans Zimmer on The Rock, Trevor Rabin on Armageddon, Steve Jablonsky on The Island and the Transformers trilogy… it's good stuff.
When I saw that title "Last Ship" with Michael Bay's name next to it, I immediately thought of Battleship, the Peter Berg film which Bay could have directed (after all, based on the trailer there are aliens robots and it's based on toys : Bay's turf). Apparently, no naval war going on on this TV show (no budget to do so either). I don't see how this Last Ship could be bring something new to the table, if we want a show following a group of survivors of an apocalyptic event we already have The Walking Dead and Falling Skies.

Sounds similar to Last Resort that will be starting in Sept. i think!
ReplyDeleteBay is just terrible. I mean he has not done a decent movie since..... since....
ReplyDeleteWait, has he ever done a good movie?
My #1 red flag to avoid a movie.... Michael Bay is attached to the project.
the premise kinda reminds me of a book that I read a long time ago called "On the Beach", about a nuclear sub that is the last surviving vessel after WW3...
ReplyDeleteBay is good at making action movies, but not much else. It's a good thing that's usually what he sticks to.
ReplyDeleteSounds a little bit like Last Resort to me too.
