Here are 8 things you need to know about Cult, a midseason megameta CW show. It's a fictional show about a reality TV show where things go way too far. Confused yet? It's getting good buzz.
I'm excited about this show merely because it represents a huge risk on the part of the CW. If it succeeds, expect more unique programming from the netlet. If it doesn't, well let's face it, the CW really has nothing to lose.
I am always ecstatic when a creator is able to get something different on television. I keep hoping that if I support these shows that maybe we'll get more attempts to do something unique on air. I hope that, especially looking at short orders, more networks will take a chance. I'm apparently in a minority of people who really enjoyed The River. I recognized from the description that it was a genre that wasn't going to be a ratings blockbuster...I thought it was cool that ABC felt that 8 eps was worth taking the shot.
Cult looks like it has the puzzle pieces to give it a better shot. I'm definitely gonna check it out.
I don't think a date has been set. They need to see how all their shows are doing first. If one tanks, my guess is Cult will be on sooner rather than later even if this is the CW.
I hope Cult is wildly successful for this same reason. The CW has nothing to lose. It won't be on the air much longer if they cannot find additional revenue sources or raise ratings. This gives them prime motivation to try something out there. I know I'm going to be promoting it like crazy. If for no other reason than it gives Pedowitz permission to play with another time slot next year if it gets even halfway decent reviews.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDeleteWhew, I had to read that a couple times to understand that Alona Tal's character was just the TV character. On paper, this was confusing for me.
ReplyDeleteThis is going to be interesting. Hopefully easier to wrap my mind around watching it than reading these spoilers.
Alona plays the tv character as well as the actress playing that tv character.
ReplyDelete2 shows in 1? Sounds fun.

In which day Cult will air in 2013 ?
ReplyDeleteThink of it as The French Mistake with serial killers.
