11 Jul 2012

In his first in-depth public interview since being relieved of his command at Community, Dan Harmon owns up to some shortcomings, casts aspersion on the ratings system that ultimately handicapped his vision and – worse yet – hints that he may rein in his creativity his next time around the dial.

Full interview here.

  1. I was surprised by the comment that Dan said NBC "“respected the idea of Community being a critical darling instead of a ratings juggernaut", I had thought it didn't respect the show much (although I realize how foolish that probably is considering NBC did renew it at least).

Still can't believe the eggheads at Sony, or whoever made the call, fired Dan Harmon. Utterly ridiculous, even now it still hasn't lessened in stupidity. I'm still hopeful for the next season to be at least decent since we still have the amazing cast.

Sad to hear that he'll limit himself on his next venture because he wants to be successful, I raise my glass to you Dan Harmon.

Success and glory to you in your future endeavors oh brilliant creator!

  2. "We're a cross-platform triumph. The problem is that the Nielsen system isn't designed to measure that yet." Agree. That's why the Nielsen system needs some major overhauling.

  3. Great interview! I have so much respect for him, and hope his idea is a success. Though I do understand him trying to limit himself, but learning that "farting around" can create such unique and fantastic episodes.

I like the idea of him working on a multi camera show, but it's almost like "if you can't beat them, join them" since Community goes up against BBT.

  4. NBC really fucked it up by firing him...
