Did Breaking Bad do better than Mad Men's season 5 premiere?
ReplyDeleteHere's
ReplyDeletethe original press release for the ratings of episode 5.01 of Mad Men
published on March 24 :
9pm
airing – 2.5 HH rating with 3.5 million viewers: +9%/+21% vs.
Season 4 Première.
9pm
airing – 1.6 million Adults 18-49: +30% vs Season 4 Première.
9pm
airing – 1.7 million Adults 25-54: +17% vs Season 4 Première.
9
pm & 11:00 pm airings cumed to 4.4 million viewers.
Mad
Men's season première was at 9pm (episode 5.02 was at 10pm, as were
the next 11 episodes), so it was a different competition for that
episode (The Killing was at 9pm in April and May) which had to face
the series finale of Luck (HBO), the penultimate episode of the
second season of Shameless (Showtime), and new episodes of The Good
Wife (CBS), Desperate Housewives (ABC) and American Dad at 9:30
(FOX), among new episodes of TV series.
Last
Night at 10pm, Breaking Bad was facing the series première of
Political Animals (USA Network), new episodes of Weeds/Episodes
(Showtime) and new episode of The Newsroom (HBO), but let's bear in
mind that Dish Network (a big cable provider) has dropped AMC ! The
fact that despite that, Breaking Bad managed to have a series high is
impressive.
Many
people seem to have been hooked in the past 9 months after the
thrilling fourth season : the show got to go to Comic-Con for the
first time, and now this (the numbers show a big growth among the
18-49 demo)... it's not Walking Dead numbers (and I don't see how
Breaking Bad could gain 5 million viewers in 2 months ^^) but it's
still very good.
A very well-deserves accomplishment. Breaking Bad is a rare case of a show getting better and better with every season, and last night's premiere truly was amazing.
ReplyDeleteI know I'm probably gonna get a lot of backstabbing here but... the premiere was kind of boring... maybe it's because I keep comparing it to Lost...
ReplyDeleteThis show is not Lost; the closest thing on television to Lost at this point is Fringe or The Walking Dead.
ReplyDeleteoh cool! Thanks for the suggestions! I understand that it's an entire different concept... and on some level I treat it as such... it's just sometimes I expect a little more from television based on the standards I gave Lost...
ReplyDeleteLost was much more "event-based television" than Breaking Bad generally is.
ReplyDeleteWell deserved hope the ratings continue to rise
