Supernatural - Ultimate Episode Round 1O - Polls
18 Jun 2012
Polls SupernaturalToday we head into the final leg of round 1. After the rounds today and tomorrow, we will advance to round 2. Speaking of round 2, Survival of the Fittest, It's a Terrible Life, Meet the New Boss, and Clap Your Hands if You Believe are moving on. In a tight race, Dream a Little Dream of Me was beaten by only 11 votes and reluctantly leaves the contest. Other episodes booted include Houses of the Holy, Malleus Maleficarum, and Repo Man. Prediction wise I was at 75% again, having predicted Repo Man would take Clap Your Hands if You Believe. Today's contest may see the biggest blow out yet as Family Remains goes up against the giant In My Time of Dying. Happy voting and don't forget to nominate your favorite quotes from Malleus Maleficarum and Dream a Little Dream of Me.

1. In My Time of Dying without a doubt. This is in my top 10 episodes. It would get my vote even if it were not against one of my 10 worst episodes.
ReplyDelete2. Bloodlust - action beats emo, Gordon treachery beats angel treachery, Lenore beats well almost everyone. In all fairness both episodes have their fair share of emoangsting, but I wasn't thoroughly sick of the angst plot when Bloodlust aired. Believe me I was completely sick of the demon blood-possessed Sam plot by the time When the Levee Breaks aired. Besides Bloodlust brought the question du season into full focus by asking what exactly makes a monster and should all monsters be killed. That theme would resonate throughout the entire phenomenal season 2.
3. Not sure - Normally season 2 trumps season 4 in all conceivable ways, but I concede that I need to watch Heaven and Hell again to be sure. I'm not a huge fan of Everybody Loves a Clown and it's fatally stupid kids and I tend to avoid midseason 4 onward when I have a choice. If I remember correctly, Heaven and Hell was awesome on the first take and then nose dives a whole lot on the rewatch. This vote will probably be a another best of the middling episodes to me.
4. Hello, Cruel World - in a powerful 2-punch season 7 opener, I prefer this one. The warehouse scene where Dean convinces Sam he is not in the cage anymore may be the most powerful in the show's history. An incredible acting tour du force for all involved. Plus it also had great lines. One of my favorite underrated gems - fruit bat fever dream. When you add in Sheriff Jodie and Doctor Monster Face, you have an unstoppable episode. Sam, Interrupted is highly forgettable compared to Hello, Cruel World.
I also loved Dean taking care of Sam's hand and of course making sure he is hydrated and "proteinated." I find that littler brother moments most of the time makes the biggest impression on me. This episode is the big exception because the warehouse scene was so huge but it's still a perfect little brother moment.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree. The small moments are many times more impressionable than the big, which is why I think I love that clown chair moment in Everybody Loves a Clown so much (plus it's something I would do to my little bro, lol). The warehouse scene - I really wish more emphasis had been given to Sam's struggle through the rest of the episodes. It might have made his eventual break feel much more weighty.
ReplyDeleteEasy voting for me this time around.
ReplyDelete1. In My Time of Dying. One of my top 10 episodes of the series, hands down. It's made of so much awesome it's ridiculous.
2. When the Levee Breaks. Not a huge fan of the vamp episodes by nature, even if an unhinged Gordon is a sight to see. As a result, action-packed as Bloodlust may be, it loses out to the angst fest that is WtLB. I think part of me may just like this episode more because it's the precursor to what's pretty much the end of the whole "boy with the demon blood" plot.
3. Heaven or Hell. I'm honestly not a huge fan of either episode, as I think both are pretty mediocre. However, I kind of have a deep-seeded hatred for Everybody Loves a Clown - I'm not sure if it's rational at this point, but I don't want to give it the satisfaction of examining it to make sure.
4. Hello, Cruel World. Great moments all around in this episode. There are a lot of great, balanced episodes of Supernatural, but this one sticks out to me as one that packs a punch in both its big moments and its small ones. I thought it was very well written, and INCREDIBLY well acted.
1. In My Time of Dying vs Family Remains? Is this a joke? XD
ReplyDelete2. When the Levee Breaks and Bloodlust is a good matchup. I just picked WTLB because I didn't wanna think too hard on it.
3. Heavn and Hell
4. Hello, Cruel World - another strong early episode from season 7...you know... before that stupid Amy thing.
Never thought of When the Levee Breaks as being the beginning of the end of the blood addiction plot line. That might make it easier to watch in 2 weeks. I dread doing quotes from the end of season 4. By the way, your comment about ELaC made me laugh. I have a few of those episodes myself.
ReplyDeleteI hate to say this, but as great as In My Time of Dying was, Family Remains had a bigger, more emotional impact on me, dont know why it just stuck with me so shamefully yet proudly i am in the minority in that poll, not that it matters
ReplyDeleteIt did seem like a lost plot point at times. The Sam component of The Born-Again Identity made less sense because of the "whoops he really is broken" suddenness of the previous couple episodes. Well that a PsychoSam the Ghost Hunter - but that's a conversation for Thursday when the episode comes up in round 2.
ReplyDeleteoh boy. that'll be an interesting discussion. :)
ReplyDelete1. In My Time Of Dying - No contest. Family Remains is very skippable when I rewatch episodes. IMTOD on the other hand is really good with Dean having an out of body experience, Tessa, and John's deal.
ReplyDelete2. When The Levee Breaks - I did enjoy Bloodlust but this one was more interesting for me.
3. Heaven and Hell - I think Alastair is enough to make this win. Loved the angel vs. demon showdown and Pam. Loved ELAC too though.
4. Hello Cruel World- I liked Sam, Interrupted, but Hello Cruel World was better to me. One of those many cases drama wins over comedy for me. Plus HCW was one of the best drama episodes in the last 2 seasons.
I'm so sad Dream A Little Dream Of Me didn't make it too. :(

Hello, Cruel World
Malleus Maleficarum Quotes:
ReplyDelete15. Ruby: "It's called witchcraft short bus." Dean: "You're the short bus. Short bus."
14. Ruby: "I'm sorry. Why are you even a part of this conversation?" Dean: "Oh I don't know. Maybe because he's my brother you black-eyed skank."
13. Dean: "So what are we thinking? We're uh looking for some craggy old Blair b** in the woods."
12. Tammy: " You're not our Messiah. We don't believe in you. But there's a new leader rising in the West, a real leader. That's the horse to bet on Sam, the one who's going to tear this world apart."
11. Dean: "Well, she got Janet Dutton. Thought she finished off Paul. Decided to cap herself and make it a spurned love hat trick."
10. Dean: "We're supposed to..to drive in the freaking car and freaking argue about this stuff. You know you go on about the sanctity of life and all that cr**." Sam: "Wait so…so you're mad because I'm starting to agree with you." Dean: "No, I'm not mad. I..I'm…I'm worried Sam. I'm worried because you're not acting like yourself."
9. Sam: "Look Dean, you're leaving right and I gotta stay here in this cr**hole of a world alone. So the way I see it, if I'm going to make, if I'm going to fight this war after you're gone, then I gotta change." Dean: "Change into what?" Sam: "Into you. I've got to be more like you."
8. Dean: "So we're thinking witch." Sam: "Uh yeah. And not some New Age wiccan water douser either. This is old world black magic Dean, I mean warts and all."
7. Dean: "No I saw Hellraiser. I get the gist." Ruby: "Actually they got that pretty close, except for all the custom leather."
6. Dean: "That's a curveball."
5. Dean: "I mean this doesn't exactly look like the TV room of a bright and stable person you know."
4. Dean: "A regular Martha Stewart huh. Except for the devil worship."
3. Elizabeth: "But she was an Episcopalian." Dean: "Well then we're pretty sure she was using the wrong Bible."
2. Dean: "I hate witches. They're always spewing their bodily fluids everywhere." Sam: "Pretty much." Dean: "It's creepy. You know it's downright unsanitary."
1. Dean: "Well Paul sure knows how to pick 'em huh. It's like Fatal Attraction all over again. And why's the rabbit always get screwed in the deal. Poor little guy."
In My Time of Dying, Dean dying, John making deal with YED, loved Tessa and Dean's talk. Sam trying to communicate with Dean's spirit.
ReplyDeleteWhen The Levee Breaks because I wanted to see what Sam was going to do. Big fight between brothers.
Heaven and Hell, Loved Anna in this and Dean getting his slice of Angel Food Cake. The Demon/Angel fight. Dang Jensen and his tears, when Dean tells Sam about Hell, heartbreaking.
Hello Cruel World, Jared was so good in this one, Sam thinking Lucifer was Dean, Dean trying to convince Sam he was real and that hand scene in the warehouse made me sick to my stomach. I almost voted for Sam, Interrupted just for the start when they were telling the doctor why they were there, that was so funny.
Bartender question since I don't drink and I'm too lazy too look it up: Dean always orders his drinks neat. That means straight out of the bottle with nothing added - no ice or anything. Right?
ReplyDeleteDream a Little Dream of Me Quotes: Light on snark but ultra heavy on the good drama quotes.
15. Sam: "One problem though. We're fresh out of African dream root so unless you know someone who can score some…" Dean: "Cr**." Sam: "What?" Dean: "Bela." Sam: "Bela, cr**. You're actually suggesting we ask her for a favor." Dean: "I'm feeling dirty just thinking about it but yeah."
14. Dean: "SOB. My father was an obsessed b**. All that cr** he dumped on me about protecting Sam, that was his cr**. He's the one who couldn't protect his family. He's the one who let mom die, who wasn't there for Sam. I always was. He wasn't there. I didn't deserve what he put on me and I don't deserve to go to hell."
13. Sam: "Not quite. If you believe the legends, it's used for dream walking. I mean entering another person's dreams, poking around in their heads." Dean: "I take it we believe the legends." Sam: "When don't we."
12. Sam: "I mean he must have been working a job right?" Dean: "Well you'd think there'd be some sort of sign of something you know. Research, news clippings, a freaking pizza box or a beer can."
11. Sam: "So what was Bobby doing in Pittsburgh?" Dean: "I don't know unless he's taking an extremely lame vacation."
10. Dean: "Sam, wake up. Dude you were out and making some serious happy noises. Who were you dreaming about?" Sam: "What? No one. Nothing." Dean: "Come on, you can tell me. Angelina Jolie?" Sam: "No." Dean: "Brad Pitt?"
9. Dean: "You've got to snap out of this now. You're not going to die. I'm not going to let you die. I'm not going to let you die. You're like a father to me. You've got to believe me please."
8. Bela: "What? I can't do you a little favor every now and again?" Dean: "No you can't. Now come on. I want to know what the strings are before you attach 'em."
7. Dean: "I've been doing some thinking and well the thing is I don't want to die. I don't want to go to hell." Sam: "Alright yeah, we'll find a way to save you." Dean: "Okay good."
6. Dean: "Okay, I don't know what's weirder - the fact that we're in Bobby's head or that he's dreaming of Better Homes and Gardens."
5. Bela: "So when do we go on this little magical mystery tour?" Dean: "Oh you're not going anywhere. I don't trust you enough to let you in my car much less Bobby's head. No offense."
4. Dean: "So how do we find our homicidal Sandman?"
3. Jeremy: "Look I don't know what the RA said but uh I was growing ferns." Dean: "Take it easy Phish. That's not why I'm here."
2. Dean: "Well should we dim the lights and uh sync up the Wizard of Oz and the Dark Side of the Moon." Sam: "Why?" Dean: "What did you do during college?"
1. DemonDean: "You can't escape me Dean. You're going to die and this…this is what you're going to become."
Good choices.
ReplyDeleteThe opening scene in Sam, Interrupted was my favorite too. Brilliantly done. Also the Ouija board scene in IMToD is one of my absolute favorites. An awesome brother moment in an episode packed with them.
ReplyDeleteIn my time of dying is also my favorite episode from the entire series, I lost count of how many times I watched it.
ReplyDeleteit's so darn good. so darn good. :)
ReplyDeleteIn My Time of Dying gets it.
ReplyDeleteIn a previous poll I mixed up Family Matters with Family Remains but this time I've got it right.
IMTOD a terrific first episode to a terrific season Two.
Family Remains is okay, not an episode to write home about but it shows us the depths to which we can drop in regards to innocent children.
X
Bloodlust.
One of my favourite episodes. It had everything.
Acceptable tension between Sam and Dean; a wonderful "villan" in Gordon; Dean who comes to see Sam's viewpoint about monsters maybe not being all bad, and sometimes able to fight their nature, which would then become a recurring theme in the show and the lovely brotherly moment over the hood of the Impala. :)
WTLB is for me a horrible episode, dark dull and depressing.
Sam was so sad in it and that's the precise moment I started to intensely dislike Castiel as he opened the door to the Panic room
Bobby was strange here too, He could have stopped Sam when he escaped but he didn't.
He could have shot him in the leg or something.
X
Everybody Loves a Clown gets it.
Sam's clown phobia was a touch of creativity on the writers' part. He's not afraid of ghosts or ghoulies but make him sit in a clown chair and he shakes. :)
One of the only good parts in Heaven and Hell were Anna and Dean in the back seat of the Impala, a scene that however felt so alien to the whole thing as if it had been tacked on as an afterthought. There had been no build up to such a moment.
Then we get Dean's confession at the end about torturing the souls. Such a moving moment and the cause of the start of the Apocalypse.
Oh yes we get to see Uriel too. I loved him, such a baddie!
X
I vote Sam Interrupted.
I loved this episode and it's another one that I feel is underrated.
So cute at the start where the brothers tell the truth to the doctor and are admitted because of the tall tales they are telling.
The monster story is good too.
I can't remember if this is the only time that Sam says that he loves his brother, even if he is under sedation, and Dean takes it with his usual good grace where his emo little brother is concerned :)
X
Hello Cruel World.
Along with Episode one, a good start to what would be a flat season with two or three high notes.
What was it they said in "TFMistake"? "Season Six" They should now change that to "Season Seven" as season six was a masterpiece compared to it. In my opinion, of course!
Super photo. Twin surprised expressions. :)
Malleus Maleficarum

The ladies in this episode didn't bother choosing their words. Lots of snark here!
"The Secret" "Voted off the island." great! :)
X
Elisabeth: This can't be-
Tammi: What did you think it was? Make believe? Positive thinking? The Secret?
No, it was me. You sold yourself to me, you pig! All I had to do is
bring one good book to book club and you ladies lined up to kiss my ass.
X
Elizabeth: You killed Renee.
Tammi: Renee, Amanda, thats what happens to witches who get voted off the island.

DALDOM.
I didn't like this ep very much but Sam's happy dream was priceless as was Dean swift understanding of Sam's plight and his snarky answer. :)
The second is cute too. We all know what Dean would have got up to in College, don't we! Hmm!
X
"Dean: Dude, you were out. And making some serious happy noises. Who were you dreaming about?
Sam: What? No one. Nothing.
Dean: Come on, you can tell me. Angelina Jolie?
Sam: No!
Dean: Brad Pitt?
Sam: No. No!"
X
"Dean: (about to drink the dream tea) Well, shall we dim the lights and sync up Wizard of Oz and Dark Side of the Moon?
Sam: Why?
Dean: What did you do in college?
"
Except Heaven and Hell, my choices are all same. Actually I didn't vote for the third poll. I remember Every Body Loves a Clown, I don't really remember what happened in the other episode. I guess, I have to have a quick look at it. But, one thing I am 'almost' sure of is, it lacks brotherly moments.
ReplyDeleteSam's fear of clowns and its beautiful portrayal in the episode gains points from me, but the episode lacks a good monster story-line. Sam shaking in chair etc, such minute details, have really been missing for the past two seasons. Season 7 doesn't have many brotherly moments unfortunately. I just want to say, I miss the good old Supernatural.
ReplyDeleteIn My Time of Dying - Perfect episode,no contest. Not a big fan of Family Remains.
ReplyDeleteBloodlust - Loved the plot and Lenore.I wasn't expecting it to be losing so badly. When the Levee Breaks wasn't bad,but it was so blatantly a lead-in for the finale.Apart from the fight and a couple other scenes,it was kind of forgettable.
Heaven and Hell - I couldn't believe it took them so long to have a fight between angels and demons.Great episode with an interesting plot. And it has my favorite sex scene.I don't even know why I like it so much. It's not like I'm crazy about Dean being with Anna.Generally, romantic relationships is the last thing I care about in Supernatural, but I loved this scene. The music was awesome, that's for sure.
Hello,Cruel World - Two awesome episodes in a row is the way to start a season.Last time this happened was season 4,which has the advantage because the third episode was,the also very good,In The Beginning. In season 7,after two insane episodes,we were introduced to Amy.
Quotes
Malleus Maleficarum:
- Dean: "Why does a rabbit always get screwed in the deal?Poor little guy."
- Sam: "It's not so simple. We're not just hunting anymore. We're at war."
Dream a Little Dream of Me:
- Dean: "My father was an obsessed bastard. All that crap he dumped on me about
protecting Sam, that was his crap. He's the one who couldn't protect
his family. He's the one who let mom die, who wasn't there for Sam.I
always was.He wasn't there.I didn't deserve what he put on me and I
don't deserve to go to hell."
(Me: "FINALLY!")
- DemonDean: "You can't escape me Dean. You're going to die and this…this is what you're going to become!"
#1 is In My Time of Dying. this one wasn't difficult because JOHN. John being badass and caring and self-sacrificing. Because Tessa. Because Dean full on swayze'd the glass. Because Azazel. Because of REASONS.
ReplyDelete#2, that's When the Levee Breaks. As much as I love Gordon, WtLB pushed the storyarc further. We also head the bloodiest brotherly fight as to date, if I remember correctly, and the most emotionally damaging (not counting the siren here). Plus Ruby's second-to-last appearance and I LOVE Ruby. And sneaky!Cas, he's always a plus.
#3 - Heaven and Hell. I have a tendency to fall in love with every angels-themed episode and this was no exception. Angels! We got introduced to Anna! RUBY AND ANNA! Uriel sneaking into Dean's dreams! First indication that Cas might be feeling more for Dean than is acceptable - and for that one off-hand remark that set up the stage for the next three seasons this episode deserves my vote.
#4 - Hello, Cruel World. Welcome back, Lucifer, not sure yet if you're real. That shit explains itself.
In My Time of Dying;
ReplyDeleteWhen the Levee Breaks;
Heaven and Hell;
Hello, Cruel World.
All easy choices for me this time.
Funny, I didn't vote the same as you but I agree with what you said. Curses to the Amy subplot for derailing what started off a stellar season. As for the first poll, well I guess someone could throw a pity vote to Family Remains.
ReplyDeleteWow! I've never heard that before. You've peaked my curiosity. What part of Family Remains hit you so hard?
ReplyDeleteEdited to add...I am often in the minority with Supernatural with no apologies for being there. That's one of the things that makes SPN so great and what keeps it on the air. Everyone finds something different to latch on to.
truly. :(
ReplyDeleteTessa was such a great character. I'm glad they keep bringing here back. I think she needs to make a season 8 appearance. Pamela was another fabulous character who always made an episode better.
ReplyDeleteIn My Time of Dying: The first time through watching the series, this episode was the most impressed I had been with the writing and acting up to that point. Just really, really strong in every respect.
ReplyDeleteWhen the Levee Breaks: Just because it's so important to the arc. It's really good to see what's going on in Sam's head.
Heaven and Hell: Angels angels angels always win. I wish we had gotten to see more of Anna and Cas later on in the season or in season 5, instead of assassinating her character and wasting her potential, their relationship was interesting. Uriel! My third-favourite angel, so scheming and complex. Also: "Castiel? He's not here. See, he has this weakness. He likes you." Love it.
Hello Cruel World: Was the main reason why I thought Cas would return, because WTF kind of exit was that? Ugh. OTHERWISE, great, high-tension episode, that made the rest of the season look promising. Unfortunately, it was squandered. Also, the only episode where Sam's hallucinations were interesting. Plus, it's up against Sam, Interrupted, which was just so awful and offensive on so many levels. My sister, who's watching the series for the first time, could not stand to finish watching the episode. It's sexist and horrifically, disgustingly ableist, and just plain rife with ignorance about mental health, and just, ugh. Of all the grossly offensive stuff that Dabb and Loflin have written, that episode was one of, if not THE worst, and a great example of why they should have been fired by now.
..hard for me to vote the last poll i like both but i choose sam i know he will loose is for support
ReplyDeleteIn my time of dying: of couuuurse
ReplyDeleteWhen the levee breaks
Everybody loves a clown: so fun and, I can't bear Anna's character sorry XD
Hello, curle world: very disturbing but such a great episode! I've hesitated because I love Sam, interrupted when he's drug XD, and only because of that!
1) In My Time of Dying -- initially my pick was just gut. Then I started remembering more than just the opening sequence. I made the right decision.
ReplyDelete2) When the Levee Breaks
3) Heaven and Hell - I'll be honest. No memory of this ep off the top of my head but I simply can't vote for Everybody Loves a Clown.
4) Sam, Interrupted - season 7 got off to a slow start for me. Despite that this wasn't really a vote against. (Gads I'm tired. I can barely pull together a sentence. :-)
haha love dean in sam, interrupted thats why i voted for it
ReplyDeleteIn My Time of Dying, Bloodlust, Heaven and Hell, Hello, Cruel World.

I too, ask myself why Dream a little Dream of Me doesn't grab me all that much.
ReplyDeleteI don't dislike it or anything. It's a good episode and I' ll watch it quite happily, but it just isn't one of those episodes that speak to me.
It's definitely not because the brothers are apart because when there's a reason, it doesn't bother me at all, although I do remember not liking the way the Demon Dean was played; I thought it was a bit too forced and I felt so sorry for poor Dean having all that truth forced on him.
Whenever there are episodes with Castiel, they nearly always win as his fans come out in full force. The non-Cas ones get their chance when it's between themselves or when it's a superb episode such as Mystery Spot.
ReplyDeleteThen probably some people just have shorter memories and the newer episodes are fresher in their mind, but Bloodlust is a terrific episode.:)
I agree. Sam's fear of clowns is so sweet, but it's true that the monster wasn't too good in that episode.
ReplyDeleteI also agree that the brotherly moments are no longer what they were in the earlier seasons.
It's such a shame, as that is what made the stories so alive!
The fact that the two brothers were so close and would have done anything to save each other was just so nice.
Let's hope that next season we will get back a little of the sense of the first seasons, but we will just have to wait and see.
Yes, loved the Ouija board also, that was so sweet and so like Sam to come up with it.
ReplyDeleteYou say Bobby could have shot Sam in the leg or something, but then where would the story have gone. If you want to use logic of it is a real life story there are hundreds of things that could or should have been done different. I don't want a "REAL LIFE" story, I get that everyday, and so I brush over these things that could have been done. I want to be entertained. ;) SPN does that for me in spades.
ReplyDeleteNevermind! I watched it a second time on DVD, it wasn't as good as the first time. I think back then, i was going through depression, and i identified with the whole message of what hell or a life of hell can do to a human being.
ReplyDeleteIt was alot more profound to me, especially Dean's monologue at the end, that just really pulled at my heart. I hate to sound so dark! Because i've made peace with everything but yeah, back then that episode tapped into the emotions i was feeling. God, i love this show.
I't's clear that we're talking about TV show and what I said is no different to thousands of other "what if's" and "maybe's" that have been discussed on these threads.
ReplyDeleteThe show went the way the writers wrote it naturally, but everyone has their own bits and pieces to add.
I have just never liked the way that all the blame for the Apocalypse was written to make Sam out to be the ony one guilty and deserving of punishment, when he wasn't! Others were involved who got off scot-free; and I am well aware that we are discussing the plot-line of an imaginary story. ;)
Sam was not the only one blamed for the Apocalypse and Dean has said many times, he started it.
ReplyDeleteYes, neat is right out of the bottle and I don't drink either, just watch a lot of shows where characters do. lol
ReplyDeleteI love your web content! If you use Wayin, a new polling service, you can embed images, links and videos in your polls - and it's free. Contact me if you're interested: amac-c@wayin.com
ReplyDeleteBobby had a shotgun. If he had tried shooting Sam in the leg, he would have blown his whole leg off.
ReplyDeleteI know nothing about guns but if the Apocalypse was all that dangerous; what's an arm or a leg between friends. ;)
ReplyDeleteIt always amazes me how TV shows like Supernatural can connect to us in such a personal way and help us get through tough times. It's helped me a few times too. I'm glad that things are better for you know.
ReplyDeleteThanks. It always bugs me when I'm not sure about a character point, no matter how insignificant.
ReplyDeleteNot a fan on Dabb anf Loflin myself. I hope they stick more to producing and limit the episodes they write in season 8. None would be my preference.
ReplyDeleteI disagree about the rakshasa. I have no opinion one way or another about clowns, but that monster creeped me out. I love how they showed monster lore gets mixed up too when they said that people confused vampires with rakshasas in that it was actually the rakshasa that can't enter a house without being invited.
ReplyDeleteI'm actually very surprised that Heaven and Hell is winning over Everybody Loves a Clown. I remember going to several boards after Heaven and Hell aired and everyone hated it except the last scene with Dean's confession. That's the only part I'll watch of that episode. Very interesting.
ReplyDeleteUnless this contest gets picked up by Tumblr which is notoriously Castiel-focused, I think you will find most Cas-centric episodes falter by the elite 8 round.
ReplyDeleteMy problem is that Sam's blood addiction was never entertaining to me. It was horribly depressing and quite frankly took the show beyond what the Winchesters could realistically (even in a fake supernatural world) take on. By moving to the Apocalypse, they forced to become too big for the main characters and that was a huge mistake in my thinking. This is one of those topics that will forever divide the Supernatural fandom because everyone has different reasons for watching the show.
ReplyDeleteBwah!!! I know it shouldn't, but this comment had me rolling with laughter. Let's just say that I am glad Sam has two functioning legs and that Bobby didn't shoot him. I do however wish someone had stopped Sam before season 5 came about.
ReplyDeleteI felt really bad for Dean too. I understand when an episode just doesn't grab you. I feel the same way about a few that others adore.
ReplyDeleteDean's quote "I full-on Sawyzed that mother." is one of my favorite quotes in the whole series. It was perfect for the moment.
ReplyDeleteDrugged up Sam beats Drunk Sam every time for me. He's so carefree and funny then. Boop!
ReplyDeleteWhen ELaC first aired, it wasn't winning many fans either. Most people absolutely hated the Roadhouse idea and the only new character getting good buzz was Ash. Jo was particularly reviled. I think there are a lot of knee jerk reactions right after an episode airs and it's really after the summer hellatus that episodes start to settle. By then you know the ramifications of an episode and that sometimes sways things. I know that my initial feelings about an episode have changed in the rewatch stage before.
ReplyDeleteThose are my favorite quotes from Malleus Maleficarum too. I felt so bad for the rabbit.
ReplyDeleteIn my time of dying - Really no contest. Family remains had a couple of good moments, but I dislike this episode very much.
ReplyDeleteWhen the levee breaks - It was a tough choice for me between the 2, but this episode was much more important to the story arc. And finding out that Castiel helped Sam escape, had me asking so many questions. I do love when they meet Gordon and discover a "good" monster.
Heaven and Hell - I HATE clowns, probably as much as Sam, so its tough to choose that episode just on that principle alone. And as much as I hate the Anna character, this was a great episode. The scene where Alastair comes face to face with the angels was epic!
Hello, Cruel world - Sam, Interrupted had some great moments, but it wasn't as good as hello cruel world. There's just so many pluses to mention just one.
Thanks for the info. I didn't start looking at reviews/boards until season 4. That was the season I became an obsessive fan vs. a watcher of the show. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat I like about your polls, it is one vote per email, so the box can't be stuffed...so to speak. lol
ReplyDeletePerhaps, but unfortunately a lot of good episodes will have been kicked out by then. :(
ReplyDeleteYes but Sam was the only one punished for it.
ReplyDeleteThe lore on all the monsters on SPN is very interesting and it must have taken them ages to research the various types such as this rakshasa which I had never heard of before the episode, but I can't say that it scared me all that much.
ReplyDeleteOne that really gave me the creeps was the one in Metamorphosis, the Rugaru, or maybe it was just the actor who played it so well.
I'm glad it gave you a happy moment. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm also happy that Bobby didn't shoot Sam. With all he was going through it would have been overkill!
in my time of dying, when the leve breaks, heaven and hell, hello cruel world .
ReplyDeleteEasy choices. Great episodes. and...just have to say this...so excited to see where season 8 is going and how dean and castiel are going to get out. i see a bromance blooming again...
Oh, Heaven and Hell definitely has some brotherly moments. It's also the episode where Dean tells Sam about hell; so very emotional at the end. Plus Anna. I really loved Anna in these episodes.
ReplyDeleteman, talk about skewing the results if that happens. Oh well. The price one pays for online polls. I agree, at least one vote per IP. That's helpful.
ReplyDeleteAre you sure about this? I think its the end of Wishful thinking, Dean tells Sam about hell.
ReplyDeleteyeah, at the end of Wishful Thinking Dean tells Sam that he remembers hell, but that he won't talk to Sam about it. Then at the end of Heaven and Hell is when Dean tells Sam what he did in hell, and Jensen cries perfect tears like only Jensen can do. Both of these episodes are among my favorites of that season and among the ones I've watched the most.
ReplyDeleteHe told Sam what he remembers about Hell in Heaven and Hell, he told him he remembered Hell in Wishful Thinking, but would not talk about it.
ReplyDeleteJensen can break my heart with his perfect tear...SIGH The only other actor that I think is this good is Ian Somerhalder.

ReplyDeleteSo sad to lose Dream a Little Dream of Me. So sad. :(
ReplyDelete1 - In My Time of Dying. No contest against anything else. This is my absolute favorite episode of the entire series. Important family dynamics; character motivations; the setup for basically everything to come after...It's probably the most important episode of them all, IMO.
2 - When the Levee Breaks - I like Bloodlust as we meet Gordon and he proves to be a force to be reckoned with, but I think Jared does such a wonderful job in WTLB, and that episodes importance in the mytharc puts it ahead of Bloodlust. It also features a Dean that is completely tortured emotionally, and I can't help it but I love those episodes.
3 - Heaven and Hell. I loved Anna here, and thought she was a lovely stepping stone of healing for Dean in dealing with his hell-memories. I really like Everybody Loves a Clown, but only for the parts of the episode that aren't the clown stuff; though one of my favorite brother scenes is in this episode (the clown chair). Still, Heaven and Hell for sure. After Lazarus Rising, Heaven and Hell is my most watched season 4 episode, and my second favorite of that season.
4 - Hello, Cruel World. This is my favorite episode of season 7, and even though I really like Sam, Interrupted, I think Hello, Cruel World is overall a better episode. There is, of course, the pivotal warehouse scene with Sam and Dean, and the terror and paralyzing fear in Sam is palpable. Everyone does a tremendous job in this episode, beginning to end. It also has another of my favorite brother scenes in which Dean takes care of Sam's injured hand. It's brief, but very moving. I also enjoy tremendously seeing Mark P. do his Lucifer shtick. "Real" or not.
