Supernatural - Ultimate Episode Round 1J - Polls

13 Jun 2012

Yesterday's polls marked easy wins for A Very Supernatural Christmas, The Usual Suspects, Something Wicked, and Time After Time. They all advance to round 2. Leaving the contest are Exile on Main St., Fresh Blood, The Mentalists, and The Curious Case of Dean Winchester. The closest one was Fresh Blood with % of the vote. Today's poll has an wide variety of episodes so it should be interesting.

We're taking another small break in our quotes nominations since we have finished season 2 and I need to watch 23 episodes of Castle in 2 days. Today is all about what ideas you have for future polls. So get your great ideas ready and we'll see what we can do. I will try to post a list of contests we have already done. If you've already mentioned a poll idea, please feel free to nominate it anyway. I have written several suggestions down but this way I won't have missed something. They can be big ideas like the episode contest we are currently doing or smaller one-shot contests. Whatever you think would be fun to do here. You can nominate 1 idea or up to 10. If you have more than 10, please tell me in the comment section so I can add them. In fact, please share all of your ideas in the comments. It makes things more fun. As always, happy voting!

  1. 1.  Lucifer Rising - This is not my favorite finale.  Too much brother fighting.  Still it did give us one of the best visceral deaths when they ganked Ruby.  The reason I'm voting for it is because I recently watched No Exit and it was worse than I remembered.  How can someone that old still ask people to lie to her mommy?  Whole situation made me want to slap both Jo and Dean.  If it weren't for that moment this poll would be a tossup for me.

    2.  Crossroads Blues without even thinking about it.  I'm not a fan of The Benders (0065cept for some snappy dialogue and Kathleen) but even if I were Crossroad Blues is such an important episode.  It introduces the crossroad demon which of course becomes major and does some big time foreshadowing.  Plus this is my favorite embodiment of the crossroad demon.  I like that Dean is clever in this one too with how he traps the demon.  Compelling story that gets even more so on the rewatch.

    3.  no vote yet because I really, really like both episodes.

    4. Death Takes a Holiday - The opening scene with Death is the coolest thing ever -absolutely perfect.  In fact all the scenes with Death and with Crowley earn high marks here.  So why doesn't it get my vote?  Because that's only half of the story.  The first half is Pestilence and I could have gone a lifetime without seeing him.  Death Takes a Holiday is too strong an episode to be taken out by half an episode for me.  I love Tessa and Alastair in this one.  One of the few times I was scared during the Apocalypse was when Alastair popped up.  The story line is cool and we get our first ghost training.  Lots to love in this one.

  4. Man, today was difficult only because all the episodes are so average. There were no easy decisions in any of them as none of them are super great, but none of them are bad, either.

Lucifer Rising - They tell ya in the title! Even though the guys are at odds the whole episode, I like this over No Exit because it set up season 5 so perfectly. I wasn't watching the show at the time this aired, but that was one hell of a cliffhanger. I also kind of love the moment when Sam and Dean grab on to each other as Lucifer's cage is opening in the church. It's just a small moment in a giant episode, but a great one. I also "enjoyed" Dean in the green room, and when Zachariah (ah, Zach!) revealed his true plans. Good stuff.

The Benders - Pretty sure this one isn't going to win, but I do really like it. Dean's desperation to find Sam, and the fact that he can't reveal himself as he tries to use the cops. Also - love Kathleen! She's a strong female, and I adore the actress (Jessica Steen). Crossroad Blues is also great, as it's when Dean has his suspicions about John's actions confirmed. It's pretty emotional, but man it's a great setup for season 3 and beyond. A great episode that does payoff so many times down the line. Hmmmm...now I kind of wish I'd voted for Crossroad Blues. Ah well. I still think it'll win pretty handily.

Wendigo - I love Weekend at Bobby's, but there's something about Wendigo (aside from the glaring errors in wildlife references - there are no grizzlies in Colorado; my nitpicks - let me show you them) that makes me love it so damn much. Nostalgia for season 1? Maybe...but it's a great episode! I'm not a fan of the girl, whatever her name is, and I'm glad that the show didn't turn into Dean trying to hit on every "victim of the week" (it could have, and that would have been awful to watch! I don't mind him getting action, but not with every guest star ever? I digress...). Um. Wendigo - good fun.

2 Minutes to Midnight - On a whim, chose this one over Death Takes a Holiday. I have no allegiances to either of them, but 2 Minutes features Crowley and so that's awesome. Death Takes a Holiday, while giving us another dose of Tessa, is pretty much all set-up for On The Head of a Pin. So. There ya go.

And I made official my poll idea for favorite guest star you want to see return...just so it's official. :)

  5. Too funny that Crossroads Blues features your favorite Crossroads Demon incarnate. My favorite is the chick who makes Dean's deal at the beginning of AHBLpt2.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Lucifer Rising  - In terms of bringing the season's story to a close I thought this ep did an awesome job.  In retrospect, it was the most in character 'Dean say's you're wrong and gives an ultimatum' sequence.  (IMHO when Dean went off on Castiel in season six it felt way out of character to me

Crossroads Blues - an easy pick  - Just a really solid story to me.  It also set down some massively important rules that would come into play at the end of season 3.  A nice piece of evidence that all of this was planned from the git go.

Weekend at Bobby's  - my easiest pick - Wendigo suffers from a lot of 'first six' issues for me.  And really, the list of eps that I would pick OVER Weekend At Bobby's is incredibly short.

I'm going to ramble about the above three picks before I do number 4.

My time is up....okay....in number 4 I pick....

Death Takes a Holiday...  it was the first thing I picked...so I went with it without thinking.

  7. Isn't there some sort of Song poll ongoing/starting sometime soon?

    ReplyDelete
  8. haha, I just suggested Best Impala scene, too! :)

    ReplyDelete
  9. I like that one too but the first one started that sassy, evil, sexy vibe Dean always seems to have with crossroad demons.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Yes.  My general plan is that once an Ultimate SPN Episode is chosen, we will do either best song or best writer next.  Following those 2 will be best song-to-scene.  All polls will stop when season 8 begins and pick up again at the winter hiatus.  Right now it looks like the quote contest will be during the winter hiatus.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Agreed that there aren't many standout episodes either way in this batch.  Crossroad Blues is the highest on my list although for the most part I enjoy them all - at least in parts.  Thanks for the nomination.  I hope to get a lot of great suggestions.

    ReplyDelete
  12. - Lucifer Rising -
Besides a few nice moments here and there, No Exit isn't really that good.  Lucifer Rising was a solid logical end to Supernatural's one good "dark" season.  To this day, when I watch Ruby's final monologue I'm still convinced that she had become so delusional that she really believed she could convince Sam to forgive her massive betrayal so they could live happily ever after by Lucifer's side.

    - Crossroad Blues -
I'm not a big fan of either episode but Crossroad Blues is still an easy pick over The Benders.  The only thing I really liked in The Benders was Kathleen.  Although I don't really find CB all that entertaining, it introduced a lot of elements to the show that are still in play today.

    - Weekend at Bobby's -
Weekend at Bobby's is great.  Period.  Wendigo was SPN's second episode ever and it was still working the kinks out.  Except for seeing Gina Holden or watching Glee's Finn Hudson get killed the episode is mostly forgettable to me.

    - Death Takes a Holiday -
This is one of those rare match-ups where I actually like both episodes.  2 Minutes has some really good stuff in it but Death Takes a Holiday is rock solid from front to back.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I am all for best Impala scene.  In fact, I'm kind of surprised we haven't done that one already.  There was a lot of love for the Impala around here especially during the midseason break.  Having her back makes my month.  Love all your suggestions.  I've seen best Sam hair contests done by season but never where people pick their favorite episode of Sam hair.  Makes sense because his hair does change over the season.

I've been thinking about best guest star for awhile now too, especially since there was a big deal about it this season especially.  I'm stuck on whether all guest stars should be lumped together or if there should be categories.  I would hate to be the one-shot guest who goes up against Mark Sheppard or Julian Richings.  Fair warning though - if we do this one, I will not include Jim Beaver or Misha Collins in the poll.  Anyone who has been in 2 seasons worth of episodes won't count as a guest for me.

    ReplyDelete
  14. If you're looking for polls to do you could always do best or favorite episode polls by character - best/favorite Sam episode, best/favorite Crowley episode, best/favorite Bobby episode etc.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Agreed that Gen rocked the final monologue.  It was twisty and kind of pathetic, but it sold the Ruby character.  One of her best scenes.

I also Gina Holden did a great job as Hailey.  I always thought she'd get a good role on another show but I haven't really seen her outside of Harper's Island.

    ReplyDelete
  16. This is the one I am most excited about on my list because it lets each character shine without turning it into a brother war or one against the other kind of thing.  I'm hoping to do nominations for these by the end of summer.

    ReplyDelete
  17.  I always figured Holden would find something steady too.  I've never understood why she doesn't get better, more high-profile gigs.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Lucifer Rising- Just loved it

Crossroads Blues- Great interaction between crossroads demon and Dean.

Weekend At Bobby's- Great Bobby episode. One of the best episodes of season 6.

Two Minutes To Midnight- One of my all time favorites. Death's introduction, Pestilence, Crowley, Team Free Will. All awesome. Castiel being human and managing to cut of Pestilence's ring was great, and the scene where Sam and Dean find out about Bobby's deal is hilarious between Cas's "I don't understand your definition of good news" and Sam's "Did you kiss him?". XD Sam, Bobby, and Cas stopping the shipment of Croatoan virus was exciting, as was Dean meeting Death.

I love Death Takes A Holiday as well, with Sam and Dean as ghosts and Pam, Alastair and Tessa, but I'm surprised how many votes it has so far.

    ReplyDelete
  19. That was my fav crossroads demon incarnate as well.

    ReplyDelete
  20. oh cool. That's what I thought was happening but couldn't quite remember. :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. yeah, the more I think about it, the more I wish I'd picked Crossroad Blues...but I still think it's the obvious winner and I do really like The Benders...

    & sure thing!

    ReplyDelete
  22. well - if you ask me recurring guest stars shouldn't compete with one-shot guest stars unless they do a 2-3 ep arc or something; I would say categories are most fair because who's going to vote a one-shot guest over Crowley or Lucifer? Not many I don't think...

I don't know. There's a fine line between being a guest star like Jim Beaver, Mark Sheppard, Mark Pellagrino, etc and being a guest star like Jessica Steen, Felicia Day, and other one-episode actors who I can't think of right now. :)

    ReplyDelete
  23. My prediction has Crossroad Blues winning by a 2/3 margin.  I would be surprised if it lost too.  Who knows though.  Neither Crossroad Blues or The Benders will win against Lucifer Rising in the next round anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  24. It will be tricky how to divide them.  My guess is instead of doing a straight one-shot guest thing (mostly because that is similar to the one-shot contest we already did), it will probably be more like people with 5 or fewer episodes compete and people with more than 5 compete.  I'll have to look at the IMDb list to come up with a good cut off point.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Crowley snarking about the kiss was priceless.  I loved Bobby and the brothers' reactions. I'm surprised Death Takes a Holiday is doing so well here too.  I have 2 Minutes predicted to win and I still think it will.  I think it's hard to argue with Death's scenes but the episode as a whole was too rocky for me.  Maybe others think that way too.

    ReplyDelete
  26.  Dividing them up is probably for the best (one-time guest star, minor recurring, major recurring) but the cut-off point between minor and major will be a little tricky to nail down.  It's one of those things that doesn't really have a perfect answer but the line has to be drawn somewhere.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Lucifer RisingCrossroad Blues
    Weekend at Bobby's
    Death Takes a Holiday

    ReplyDelete
  28. yeah, it would be hard to divide them, and even one-shot guests that are awesome are better/favored over others with a few more episodes under their belt.

    ReplyDelete
  29. ha! so true...so I guess it's kind of a moot point...
Are you, at the end, going to post a list of how all the episodes ranked in these final polls? That would be so interesting to see.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Once the first round is done I will take off the wildcard part of the "Contest Results So Far" page and change that section to the ranking order so it will be available as the contest proceeds.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yeah, probably that is what it is. 2 Minutes did go a lot of places in the episode (though I don't really notice it others may). Still, surprising the amount of people for DTAH after what I'd heard. I thought I was one of few who loved it.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I was defining guest star as a one episode guests.  Anyone who has done more than one ep would, in my book, be a recurring actor/character.   Jim Beaver, Misha Collins are, as you say, special cases since Misha was officially a regular for a season and Jim Beaver...has been so much more important to the canvas than a simple guest star.

    ReplyDelete
  33. It seems to me that an arbitrary cut off point is the only thing that's fair.   Have there been many who have done more than four eps?  I can only think of 4 characters( Ruby, Lucifer, Bobby, Crowley, Daddy Winchester)

    ReplyDelete
  34. In that case, we've pretty much done that poll.  We did it by character bot actor but I would think the results would be very much the same.

    ReplyDelete
  35. There's over 20 characters not including Dean and Sam that have been in more than 4 episodes.  Castiel, Ellen, Lisa, Meg, Balthazar, Samuel, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  36. What do you guys think about doing a poll on the best or worst NotImpala vehicle they drove?  There are a ton in season 7 of course, but there was also that hideous minivan from Everybody Loves a Clown and Sam's plastic fuel-efficient, looks like my car nightmare in season 6.

    ReplyDelete
  37. awesome, thank you. I can't imagine how much time this takes, but I appreciate having it as a distraction :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. I almost suggested this actually, but outside of season 7 there's not too many other times they aren't in the Impala. But, it'd definitely be a good, quick one to do. I say go for it. :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Lucifer Rising
    Crossroad Blues
Weekend at Bobby'sand 2 Minutes to Midnight

    ReplyDelete
  40. I will give it to No exit. It's not a write home episode but I liked the creepy serial killer story.
    X
Lucifer Rising is an episode I heartily dislike.
The brothers are at  the height of their separation and the message Sam receives from Dean while on his way to kill Lilith is in my top five heartbreaking moments on Spn.
The only good things in the episode are the killing of Ruby by both brothers, and the cluching at each other's jacket in the last scene; although even the killing of Ruby didn't satisfy me because it came too late, and the brothers' destiny was now sealed.
    X
I vote for Crossroad Blues because it's just such a good quality episode. Wonerfully done and Dean's interaction with the demon was gold.
However I enjoy the Benders too and I loved how Dean vocalised his love and concern for Sam by promising to kill them all but it was Sam who saved his  brother in the end. I just love them saving and helping one another. :)
    X
I vote for Wendigo. One of my favourites in absolute. The brothers' first unsure steps together after terrible years of separation and lack of communication. It was just so sweet and they were still so young and innocent as regards to hunting even although brought up in that world.

Week-end at Bobby's was a good episode. We got to see Rufus whom I really like but I haven't been able to forgive Bobby what he did to the Winchesters in Exile on Main Street.
He let Dean suffer for a year without telling him about Sam and he let Sam suffer too, because if he had spoken sooner, Sam's soul could have been rescued less damaged.
I have never seen him in the same way after that.
    X
I vote Death takes a Holiday.
We get to see the boys as playful ghosts. We get to see Alastair and I just loved the boys working together to free Tessa. Then there's Pamela whom I like and the child ghost. There are a lot of good moments in it.
X Two Minutes To Mindnight had Death and Crowley, but I hated the idea that came to the fore of Sam having to throw himself into the Pit, and the others being okay with that.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Glad you like the photo.  I figured since that scene kept coming up in the discussion of Fresh Blood that it would be a good choice.  It fit my only criteria for photos in this contest - has to have both brothers in it.  The gorgeous Impala is a bonus.

I still loved Bobby post-season 5 even though I thought that decision was completely out of character for him and I really wish we had gotten more insight into why he went in that direction. As for Lucifer Rising, I have the same issue with it.  In fact, I was less thrilled about all the season finales after season 3.  Well I really liked the season 6 finale but less so seasons 4, 5, and 7.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I just sent in some poll suggestions. Don't know if they are any good but however!

    ReplyDelete
  43.  Yes, it's really a beautiful photo, and the way Sam is glancing over at Dean speaks volumes, also the Impala is just so beautiful in this particular still.

I liked the  season Six finale too  and you know I was happy that Castiel had  become the big bad because I thought that it would be the beginning of a really good story line for him in season seven.

If it had been him instead of the Leviathans I think season seven would have been more powerful as there was an emotional attachment, whether good or bad,  to Cas, and I think it would have been thrilling for the boys to have to run and hide from him while trying to bring him down.

It would also have given Castiel a reason to be, instead of having to do somersaults to find something for him to do. Crowley could have sided with the brothers in trying to take him down.
I think it would have been rather exciting.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I'm with you the entire way.  After a season 6 with Cas mostly being stuffed in wily nily until I wanted to scream that they didn't just let him die in Swan Song, I was excited that he had an actual reason for being on my screen other than people like Misha.  Then when they tossed him in the drink in episode 2 I was certain he was going to be the Big Bad of the season.  I was especially excited when they started mentioning a head Leviathan.  Then it all came crashing down with the introduction of Dick Roman.  Don't get me wrong - I like theguy who played him, but no one - not the brothers, Bobby, or the audience - had a personal connection to him.  Then he was flung in wily nily and the mytharc gusto stalled.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I'm sure they are great.  Thanks so much for your feedback.  We're getting all kinds of great ideas.

    ReplyDelete
  46.  I think I'm writing a complete fan fic story, here but if Cas had been the head big- bad in season seven, maybe we could have got a banding together of all the other Purgatory and supernatural creatures with the Winchesters, in a momentary truce to take him down as he had the powers of a God now.
Dick Roman could have been his second-in -command and sort of ambassador with the humans and the Winchesters.

Anyway I think the writers missed a good opportunity there and I'm rather amazed they never went down that road especially as it was their intention to keep Castiel on in some way.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I'd rather have Cas and Dick and Levis on one side of a great battle and humans and supernatural on the other in a sudden death match instead of tense peace talks, but I'm more action-focused.  Still I think your plan sounds more epic than it became.  And more tense.

    ReplyDelete
  48.  That's what I was trying to say .
As Cas would be busy with Heaven too, he would leave a lot of the hunting down of the Winchesters and the elimination of any "heretics" of his new "Godship" to Roman.
I certainly didn't mean for him to have peace talks as I love action episodes too. :)
And a final battle between the two factions would have been epic.

Well, as that's not how it went down, we'll just have to see what Mr. Carver comes up with in Season Eight.
I hope it's thrilling and we get bad-ass and intelligently capable Dean and Sam back. :)

    ReplyDelete
  49.  I agree about this poll idea too, also there should be a Mustang if i remember correctly from "My heart will go on" :)

    ReplyDelete
  50. Lucifer Rising - a good way to finish season 4, and the killing of Ruby was perfect;Crossroad Blues - i could not have thought while i watched it for the first time that it will be such a key episode for the future events, end even without knowing this i still like it more; Weekend at Bobby's - i really like Wendigo, and am sad that it had to go against such an opponent, but in the end i chose the  Weekend at Bobby's because of Rufus, Crowley, and an interesting way of showing things from Bobby's perspective; 2 Minutes to Midnight - once again a tough choice, i enjoyed brothers as ghosts, but the Death himself is simply awesome, and with added bonuses of Crowley and even Pestilence (might be one of the few that liked him) this episode becomes a winner to me. Great shame that they had to put so many things in one episode, this could have easilly been two separate strong ones.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Couldn't agree with you more about Two Minutes To Midnight. Death's introduction is a fricken AWESOME scene! But Pestilence makes me want to dry reach.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Lucifer Rising - No contest,I loved the finale!Ruby's death is very high on the list of favorite moments. And it had some amazing scenes in the green room between Dean and Cas.And a minor detail:the Devil was freed!

Crossroad Blues - Very good episode. We got to meet the crossroads demons, which was kind of important for future events.Dean's scene with the demon was brilliant.

Wendigo - This was a hard one, since I really like both episodes. But I just saw Wendigo last night and I realized yet again how great it is.Plus,I don't think Weekend at Bobby's will need my vote to win,so no harm done.I'm fine with either of them winning this one.

2 Minutes to Midnight - Death's introduction is enough. One of the best character intros ever!I could have done without Pestilence, who managed to reach Famine's levels of gross(something I didn't think possible). But Dean's scene with Death was epic, there was Crowley and a great final moment/quote between Bobby and Dean.
A little sad about Death Takes a Holiday, which was also great and it had Tessa.

About the polls,I said before that having a favorite scene poll would be great,so that's my first nomination.
Other than that, favorite guest star would be cool. But,in my opinion,if there's a poll like that, there should be some kind of categories. For example,Felicia Day,Amy Acker,Tricia Helfer(in Roadkill) in one category and Mark Sheppard,Richard Speight and Rob Benedict in another(wow, how in the world will we choose).Otherwise, say that Amy Acker comes up against Richard. She was awesome, but the result is kind of a given.
But still,it's gonna be hard.Guest stars in the Supernatural world are a big deal for a lot of reasons. We have very few main characters,a very active fandom and even the Conventions contribute to that.Take Matt Cohen, who was in two episodes,or even Richard Speight(he was in 4 episodes,I think). In other shows, characters who appear in less than 5 episodes are forgotten in a month. It's very interesting!I love our fandom!

    Okay,so:
Favorite scene(the nominations would be kind of tricky, though)
    Favorite guest star
Favorite recurring guest star(I don't know if that's the correct term, sorry)
    Favorite episode ending
    Favorite twist
    Favorite fight(maybe?)
Favorite character introduction(it came to me because of Death, but I'm pretty sure I know the results without the poll.)
    Scariest moment

    I don't know.That's what I've got,I guess..Sorry if they're weird.  : )

  53. Lucifer Rising was an okay episode, but it's still better than No Exit. And it's not that I hated that episode, I just didn't like it that much. The best part was how they nailed the ghost, that was great.

I don't really like The Benders episode, so I definitely voted for Crossroad Blues. It isn't the greatest episode either, but as other people have mentioned, I loved the crossroad demon and it was a very important episode, with the introduction of the crossroads demon.

Maybe it's just me, but I absolutely love Weekend at Bobby's. Maybe it's because I love that character so much, or maybe it's because it was nice to see what he does during his days at home. I know there was very little of the boys in this episode, but the Bobby and Crowley scenes are awesome. Something about the way those two bicker—I don't know, but I enjoy it. As much as I like the Wendigo episode, for me it can't compare to Weekend at Bobby's.

Death Takes a Holiday got my vote over Two Minutes to Midnight. There is so much in this episode I loved, like Alastair, Tessa and Sam and Dean learning how to fight like a ghost. We were also introduced to the "angel proofing" which I believe is the first time it's mentioned. The worst part was when Pamela died though. I loved her. She died way too soon.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Crossroad Demon and Crossroad Deal is my most favorite Supernatural concept ever. If there is one thing i want to borrow into "our world" from "Supernatural world", that would be crossroad demon. I really, really require a crossroad demon very badly.
And yeah I am with you as far as voting is concerned, but I voted for Weekend at Bobby's. That's my most favorite season 6 episode, and its obviously better than all of season 7 episodes, except Meet the New Boss. Wendigo on the other hand, is just a mediocre monster of the week episode, even though it has powerful dialogues.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Easy picks for me today.

    1. Lucifer Rising - for a season finale, it's quite low on action, but I still really love it. I'm not a fan of the boys fighting, but I loved the reveal that the angels wanted to bring the Apocalypse on and that Lilith was the final seal. I love how Cas decided to rebel and how they finally killed Ruby. The end made me fear Lucifer more than I ever did after he actually appeared. No Exit, on the other hand, has probably the most annoying Jo scenes ever, so easy choice here.

    2. Crossroad Blues - because I believe it's a very important episode for the entire series. We found out about the crossroad demons and making deals with them.

    3. Wendigo without a doubt. I don't like WaB AT ALL. Never rewatched it, never will. Boring as hell. So I'd take "saving people, hunting things, the family business" over it anytime.

    4. Death Takes a Holiday - another easy pick and it's very painful to see it losing. One of my favourite season 4 episodes and like I said many times, one of the most underrated ones too. I love Tessa, I love Pamela, I love Alastair, I love the breaking-the-seals storyline, love the episode's individual storyline about the boys becoming ghosts to save the reapers. The episode is perfection and I really don't get why it doesn't get more recognition. And 2 Minutes to Midnight comes from the very depressing and very forgettable end of season 5. Seriously, I don't even remember it all that well.

  56. Funny how opinions can vary. I'd take about 20 season 7 episodes over Weekend at Bobby's :P So no, it's not "obviously better".

  57. Lucifer Rising, killing Ruby FINALLY.

The Benders, because humans are crazy and so much scarier.

Weekend at Bobby's, loved all of it and poor Bobby trying to eat his peach cobbler and awesome job with Jensen's first director job.

Two Minutes to Midnight, Death wins this eps for me, but Cas in the hospital was funny, could have done without Pest. Love the junk food Death eats.

  58.  Favorite scene would be so easy for me..Swan Song where Lucifer/Sam is beating Dean and he keeps saying I'm here, not going to leave you and Baby doing her part.  That is the scene that makes SPN for me..brother love and Baby.

  59. Wow, there's SO many of these polls!

  60.  LOL, I wonder when Dahne has time to eat. But I do love all the good SPN polls, keep me busy and out of the bars. ;)

  61. Or  Christopher Heyerdahl as Alastair, sorry to keep harping on Chris, but he was the best Alastair they had..IMHO. lol

  62.  Would it be the actor or the character, Alastair(yep, me again) had several actors play him and also YED had several.

  63. Lucifer Rising, Crossroad Blues, Weekend at Bobby's, Death Takes a Holiday.

  64. Lucifer Rising, The Benders, Wendigo and Death Takes A Holiday
Lucifer Rising one of my favourite episodes of the series, the Sam/Ruby/Lilith stuff was brilliantly intense. I thought the pay off for what had transpired through the season really payed off in this season finale and it left us with one hell of a cliff hanger.
The Benders is one of my favourite episodes of the series, simply because the threat was actually human and not supernatural. It had some great brotherly moments even with the boys apart for most of the episode and I really liked Kathleen?
Wendigo is SPN the way I loved it, back in the early days when I enjoyed the show for being a monster of the week affair with great music and interesting characters. It also had some really great brotherly moments.
Death Takes A Holiday was just a really enjoyable episode, loved Dean sticking his hand through ghost Sam's chest, loved Sam and Dean learning to be ghosts from a kid, loved that it was mythology heavy and it left us with that somewhat chilling warning for Sam from a dying Pamela.
None of the other episodes were bad really except maybe No Exit which was a little too Dean/Jo heavy for my liking. Crossroad Blues isnt one of my favourites I though it was to heavy on the Dean angst. I found Weekend At Bobby's boring and 2 Minutes to Midnight was just kind of meh. I liked Death's entrance but found his scene with Dean really underwhelming and overhyped. Also I didnt realise that Sam hadnt been a hunter saving lives for god knows how long, what the hell had we been seeing for 5 seasons?!

  65. Poll ideas-
something different because we keep doing the same ones over and over
    Sexiest Shirt Play-offs
    Sam's Best Hair Episode
    Best Bitch Face
    Funniest Facial Expression
    Ugliest Shirt Play-Offs
    Games
    -Whose ass is that?
-Where did it happen?/ Guess the place that murder happened
-Where're the Winchesters? (wheres Wally? SPN style)
-Which episode did Dean eat this? (pictures of Dean eating, which episode did it take place?)

    ReplyDelete
  66. In this case it would be the actor. We've already done character polls.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I disagree that it is obviously better than all other season 7 episodes except Meet the Boss too. There were a lot of episodes in season 7 that I really, really liked. More than any other season in recent history to be honest.

  68. The Mustang will probably get my vote for best NotImpala car. Except for the hideous orange stripes, that car was pretty sweet.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I agree that Crossroad Blues was good as a standalone episode even before it became epic later. I am loved having an episode told from Bobby's perspective and anything with Bobby and Rufus in it is golden.

  70. Favorite twist is an easy one that I think we could do nominations and vote on in a week. We're going to need some short polls so this one may come pretty quickly. Thanks! I love all these nominations. I think you will have a fight on your hand with fav character introduction though. While I personally think Death's intro is stunning, there is no doubt that Castiel's entrance is equally epic. I would imagine it would be a very tough fight and an almost impossible vote for some.

  71. Thank you for your comment, I was unable to vote for Lucifer Rising but didn't remember exactly what I disliked about this episode: it's that message Dean sent to Sam, the intended message was beautiful, but some supernatural force distorted it into something horrible and I just hate that. I also greatly disliked the green room concept and the deceit from the angels. Only thing I liked: the brothers grabbing each other's lapels, but that scene alone doesn't make me want to watch that episode again.

Then I also have problems with 2 Minutes to Midnight because of where was it headed (and because of Pestilence), however I did enjoy Swan Song after it.

  72. Welcome to summer voting. Thanks for sharing your opinions. I miss Pamela too. She was a great character. I also agree that Weekend at Bobby's rocked. It was to see a different perspective and Crowley is always a plus. My only complaint about Weekend at Bobby's isn't how little the brothers are in it but how they come off when they are. I simply do not think Dabb and Loflin can write for Dean and Sam effectively at the same time. It shows in this episode the most to me. Otherwise it was a solid win.

  73. "The end made me fear Lucifer more than I ever did after he actually appeared." - THIS! Probably the best thing about Lucifer Rising after Ruby being gone for good is that it left me excited for season 5 after what was for me a disappointing season 4. Too bad season 5 never lived up to its hype. I think Death Takes a Holiday is severely underrated too. I didn't like the kid as much as everyone else, which is odd given my usual affinity for Winchesters and kids, but everything else was solid, creepy, and entertaining.

  74. Yes well people who watch Supernatural tend to like to discuss it just like Fringe fans like to theorize about Fringe, Game of Thrones fans like to.rave about it, etc. :-) We are currently in the process of picking the ultimate Supernatural episode and since there are 149 of them so far, we are doing a poll a day. There should be a Supernatural poll every day of the summer hellatus except for when Adam is running his Best Show and Character Cup contests. It helps us pass the hellatus time faster and is good fun for fans to be able to talk. Since the summer tends to be a slower time for TV websites, most people don't seem to mind us having a daily chat fest. People who aren't interested tend to skip right on by and leave us to enjoy our own little world.

  75. The cobbler was a great running theme in WaB. I am so happy that Jensen's first directorial job was successful. I hope they pair him with different writers this time around, and that season 8 he has better material to work with than the annoying Amy subplot of season 7. As for Death one of his greatest quirks is the junk food bit. I loved when Dean bought pickle chips as a kind of peace offering for binding him.

  76. The Lilith is the last seal bit was a brilliant twist fro season 4. It was quite the shocker for me and expertly done. If they hadn't spent so much time in the set-up of angry brothers, Lucifer Rising would be much higher on my great episodes list. It really did tie things together nicely and leave us with quite the cliffhanger. Mytharc-wise this one was a doozy.

I also really enjoy Wendigo and think it got a bad rap. Very underappreciated. The monster was really cool, the ties between the Collins family and the Winchesters were poignant, and that brother scene with the journal was pure gold. Wendigo did a great job of further establishing the characters.

  77. Ha! We might get laughed off SpoilerTV if we do sexiest shirt but I love your out-of-the-box thinking. I've been recently collecting funny faces pictures and there are a whole lot of fun ones. That could be a blast! Games are played in the SpoilerTV forums but those sound like a lot of fun. I would have a difficult time answering the murder without cheating because while I remember episode titles, I generally have no clue what town they take place in. Guess I'll have to pay more attention to that in the rewatch. Thanks for all the great ideas!

  78. It was such a weirdly combined episode to me. I think Pestilence should have been one episode (so I never had to watch him again) and Death should have been another (excellent on the rewatch).

    ReplyDelete
  79. Actually, for me Castiel's entrance in number one with Death a close second. That's what I meant about the results. There's no way one of them wouldn't win.
We can skip right to the final! ; )

  80. I'm with you, that is the way I would vote also.

  81. Hi, yes ,it was such a sad moment.
Poor Sam ( and me! ) was so upset when he heard that message.
I don't know who changed it, probably one of the angels, but I feel so bad for him when he listens to it.
If the real message that Dean sent had arrived, maybe Sam would not have gone to kill Lilith at all.
    X
I know, angels are supposed to be good and when they act worse than the demons, it's very bad.

  82. Oh Good Lord! I am gonna edit my post and remove the word "obviously". I was having a lot of political debates over internet on other websites and I typed this post in the midst of those 'wars'. Anyways, its just my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Completely agree with you. I removed the word obviously.

    ReplyDelete
  84. I think Ruby or at least a demon changed the message, I was looking at the smirk on her face when Sam was on the phone. She looked like she already knew what was said.

  85. Lucifer Rising
    Crossroad Blues
    Wendigo
    Two Minutes To Midnight

Easy vote except for the last one. I voted for TMTM, but loved Death takes a hollyday too.

Lucifer rising is my fave in this poll:

lilith is the final seal was a WTF! moment; the end with the bloody sigil on the shaking ground and the bros clutching together was another one.

loved all the scenes between Cas and Dean. Misha and Jensen are just brilliant together. And of course, I jumped and applaused when Cas finally officially crossed the line & joined team free will \o/

I'm probaly the only fan who hoped until the end that Ruby would choose Sam side too. I would have love the symetry of a demon and an angel helping the bros.

Lucifer rising was a perfect finale to an awesome season four!

  86. I voted for Lucifer Rising, Crossroad Blues, Wendigo, and 2 Minutes To Midnight. First two polls I had to problem voting but the other two were harder for me to decide.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Mostly easy choices for me today! :)

    1. Lucifer Rising: no competition here at all! Even if I hadn't loved the S4 finale, with the reveal and demise of Ruby, No Exit was really not a great Supernatural episode. Jo was whiny, Sam and Dean were a bit out of sync, and I wasn't gone on the whole serial killer ghost thing, or how they dealt with it. The only saving grace was Ellen being awesome, but it's not enough to save this episode.

    2. Crossroad Blues: again, no competition. This was such an important episode in terms of setting up the mytharc in terms of demon deals and their rules and consequences. I also quite liked Evan Hudson, our PiP, and it gave great insight into Dean (in particular) and Sam's states of mind. Plus, awesome soundtrack! In contrast, The Benders didn't have too much going for it, except for Kathleen and a healthy dose of protective big brother Dean!

    3. Weekend at Bobby's: not such a forgone conclusion for this one, I actually really enjoy Wendigo as an episode, but for sheer class and enjoyment factor, the prize has to go to Jensen's directorial debut. Jim Beaver showed his acting class in this one, plus there were some fantastic one liners, and Crowley *and* Rufus. Almost too much awesome for one episode.

    4. Two Minutes to Midnight: this was the toughest choice of the lot. Death Takes a Holiday was a good episode, but I found TMtM to be a far more memorable and enjoyable episode. Death is an amazing character, much props to Julian Richings for the fantastic portrayal, and I actually really enjoyed the whole Pestilence/stopping the vaccine delivery storyline, it was fantastic to see some redemption for Sam after two seasons of having his character make decisions that seemed to lead him from bad to worse, no matter how hard he tried. It was great to see the human element that survived all of that.

  88. These episodes sure have some awesome acting - totally agree there. I ended up voting for Weekend at Bobby's too because the combined awesome of Crowley and Rufus was to hard to pass up. Well that and the Gambler montage scene.

    ReplyDelete
  89. I'd be thrilled to do the actor poll.  As has been pointed out there are a few characters played by multiple actors.

  90. Nice of you to answer, but I really know all about this;) As a huge SPN fan, I love the idea, very happy that there's SO many polls;)
