Supernatural - Ultimate Episode Round 1G - Polls
10 Jun 2012
Polls SupernaturalWith the exception of I Know What You Did Last Summer vs. How to Win Friends and Influence Monsters (which lost by a mere 12 votes), all polls were a cakewalk last round. The Born-Again Identity, I Know What You Did Last Summer, The Girl with the Dungeons & Dragons Tattoo, and The Monster at the End of This Book are heading into round 2. Apparently long titles are winners! Leaving the contest are The Rapture, How to Win Friends and Influence Monsters, Two and a Half Men, and Like a Virgin. I am sorry to see How to Win Friends and Influence Monsters go, but we push on today with episodes I think people will like better. Well at least one of them.
In quotes nominations we have Heart and Hollywood Babylon, two episodes as different as can be. Remember that you can nominate quotes for past episodes at any time. Just click on the link for the season 1 or 2 nomination forms below. Happy voting and comments are like a great classic rock song. Spread the love.

1. All Hell Breaks Loose, Part 2 - without a doubt. This is my favorite finale because it showed exactly how courageous Supernatural was going to be. To shoot off the main villain whom everyone thought would last until the end of the series was a shocker. It also had Dean's monologue over Sam's dead body, the crossroad deal, Bobby and Ellen, Sam taking on Jake, the return of John, and all kinds of great quotes. All around one of the best episodes in SPN history.
ReplyDelete2. No vote yet
3. Phantom Traveler - This one will get beat badly, but I am not a fan of bringing heaven into things. I'm even less of a fan of emoagsting to this degree. Gah this one is hard to sit through in all its great depression. I also did not like how Sam's heaven cut out Dean. I would much rather vote for the post-911 ludicrous plot of Phantom Traveler because it gave us fabulous quotes and even better brother scenes. A good solid episode where I loved both of the brothers.
4. Monster Movie - I liked Caged Heat, porn jokes and stupid Crowley death aside. However I adore Monster Movie. Nothing makes me laugh harder in the later episodes than "I have a coupon." Jamie was a fantastic PiP who I would love to have back again, the monster was both funny and even a bit sympathetic, and the brothers were enjoying themselves for the first time in a long time. This is one of my top SPN episodes.
All Hell Breaks Loose Part 2, Sympathy For The Devil, Dark Side Of The Moon, and Caged Heat. This was so easy for me.
ReplyDeleteall the first choices.
ReplyDeleteI think you picked all this round's winners.
ReplyDeleteYou are going to be in good company today. Not so much me. So far I've only missed 1 out 24 in my predictions, but I'm going to be lucky if even half of my choices make it to round 2. Only 13 of my picks have advanced so far and probably only one will today. Oh well.
ReplyDelete1. All Hell Breaks Loose, Part 2 Dean's monologue over Sam and the end of YED. Also, I loathe the Adam story line.
ReplyDelete2. didn't vote...not a fan of either episode
3. Phantom Traveler Aside from the fireworks scene I didn't care for Dark Side of the Moon.
4. Monster Movie I love the B&W, the classic monsters, Dean in lederhosen, & 'I have a coupon'
Poll #1: All Hell Breaks Loose, Part 2 - Who can forget Dean's opening speech? His deal to save Sam? Azazel's death? John helping the boys as a ghost? This was an episode full of iconic moments.
ReplyDeletePoll #2: Honestly? Party On, Garth - I'm not a huge fan of this episode, but it was pretty solid. Sympathy of the Devil was good too, but also the embodiment of why I didn't like season 5. Boring, forgettable, and depressed Winchesters.
Poll #3: Dark Side of the Moon - Who knew Dabb and Lofflin could write so well? I loved the idea of heaven, and it was a very good character episode. And who doesn't love Ash and Pamela?
Poll #4: Hmmm...Monster Movie - This episode really showed that Supernatural knows no bounds (thats part of a quote from Dracula!Shifter, too). A black and white episode is truly experimental and awesome, and it was incredibly funny. Some memorable moments include "I have a coupon", Dracula escaping on a motorbike, Intermission, and the shifters sympathetic nature (not really a moment, but oh well.
We voted the exact same way for the exact same reasons, which is very hard considering one of those was a no vote. So glad to have you back and commenting! The fireworks scene is the only thing I like about Dark Side of the Moon too. The combination of Colin Ford's joy, Dean's happiness (for once in season 5), and the music was perfect. Too bad it all went downhill from there.
ReplyDeleteI am a great fan of black and white movies (although not usually BW monster movies) so that touch really spiked my interest. To have the opening credits and the intermission made my day. For me, this is one of those great leaps Supernatural takes that really paid off. A high-concept, high-fun awesome episode.
AHBL2 - I would add the end scene as an iconic moment too. I was so happy Sam learned about the crossroads deal right away instead of dragging the secret into season 3. So many genre shows fall under the weight of their own mythology by piling on question after question and dragging out plot lines until they are begging to be shot and put out of their own misery. By not only killing YED but not making the crossroads deal a huge secret, SPN showed it was superior to almost every genre show to me. It told me that the PTB were confident in their ability to tell the story and that they trusted their audience to come back and see it through. This is the stuff that makes Supernatural my favorite show.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite quotes in Monster Movie is when Jamie says, "You ever think that maybe you're lonely because you kill people." Usually the scenes I love best have the brothers in them, but this one is such a great twist on the classic old-fashioned monster movie scene that I don't even need the Winchesters in it to make it powerful and moving. There are so many great scenes like this one in Monster Movie.
In honor of full disclosure, I do not love Ash. I tolerate him and found him to be better in DSotM, but not even close to love. I do however love Pamela.
All Hell Breaks Loose, Part 2Sympathy for the Devil Dark Side of the Moon
ReplyDeleteCaged Heat
wow monster movie is very close i don't know why Caged Heat was an awesome episode
All Hell Breaks Lose Part 2 is number one on my personal list of favorite eps.
ReplyDeleteParty on Garth... I can't really say why....It's, honestly, just the mood I'm in now.
Dark Side of the Moon -- even if this weren't up against Phantom Traveler I'd vote for it. We got a lot of
character and, isn't this the ep that ended with Dean tossing the necklace?
Monster Movie -- I'm not surprised that these two are neck n neck... I liked both...but there was a quirk and several unexpected moments (Dean in lederhosen)
All Hell Breaks Loose pt2 - a fantastic finale. I was surprised to see YED go by the way, and surprised to see John reappear. Dean's deal...Sam...Bobby...all of it is just so very fantastic.
ReplyDeleteSympathy for the Devil - Party On, Garth was fun, but Sympathy for the Devil was a very strong premiere. And we meet Rachel Miner as Meg, whom I like in the role and I hope she pops up now and again in season 8.
Dark Side of the Moon - This episode is in my Top 10 - and if it weren't for Dean throwing away his amulet at the end, it would, to me, be perfect. I like the SPN idea of heaven, and I felt the scenes the guys found themselves in to be so specific to their characters, and their character's base wants/needs. Dean was all about family, Sam was all about independence. It's a heartbreaking episode but I also find it breathtaking in how it's shot; lighting, effects, everything. Also, I would love to see Sam and Dean cross paths with Walt and Roy someday; those guys deserve some payback!
Caged Heat - Here we learn how monstrous Samuel really was. I never bonded with the extended Campbell family, and I wasn't sad that most of them were gone by this point. This was also the straw that broke the camel's back for Dean with regards to Soulless Sam. As for Monster Movie - I like it, and think it's a very inventive and fun episode, but it came at a bad time in the season. Metamorphosis was so emotional, I just wanted more at that point in the season. Still, I do enjoy it, just not more than Caged Heat (I find my votes tend to go towards emo/angst/hurt/dead Winchesters, hmmmm)
Totally with you on Dark Side of the Moon! I am constantly surprised that Dabb and Lofflin wrote it, as they are usually pretty hacky in their scripts!
ReplyDeleteI really expected us to wildly disagree about Monster Movie.
ReplyDeleteMy least favorite writers of all. They can never get Dean, Sam, and Bobby in character in the same episode. Very frustrating since you know at least of them are the main characters.
ReplyDeleteIt's in my top 25 episodes. There's not much I don't love about that episode.
ReplyDeleteFunny because I would have said, "Wow! Monster Movie is very close. I don't know why it isn't winning. Monster Movie is an awesome episode." I do like Caged Heat too but there are far more scenes I could leave in it and never miss than in Monster Movie.
ReplyDeleteDabb and Lofflin tend to be hit or miss with me. A lot of misses there. XD But I do like some of their episodes, though yeah, they don't quite "get" the characters.
ReplyDeleteI agree-they are among the worst writers. But I found them to be awesome with what they did in Dark Side of the Moon. An exception to the rule.
ReplyDeleteHeart Quotes: To say that snark is in limited supply in this episode is to master the understatement. However, emoangst overflows the seams.
ReplyDelete12. Dean: "I found him." Sam: "Good. Don't take your eyes off of him." Dean: "Oh yeah, my eyes are glued."11. Sam: "Dean, always with the scissors."10. Dean: "So what do you think?" Sam: "Stalker ex-boyfriend. He hates the boss and he was there that night." Dean: "Think he's our dog-faced boy?" 9. Dean: "Let me guess. You're sitting on her couch like a stiff trying to think of something to say."8. Sam: "What were you doing with Kurt?" Madison: "I don't know. I mean it's not like he introduced himself like 'Hi, I'm possessive and controlling and I like to punch people. Want to be my girlfriend?'"7. Sam: "Anything?" Dean: "Nah, nothing but leftovers and a six-pack." Sam: "Look in the freezer. Maybe there's some human hearts behind the Hagen Daz or something."6. Madison: "You know for a stakeout, your car's a bit conspicuous. What are you still doing here?" Dean: "Honestly…uh, we're pretty sure you're not going to turn tonight but we got to be 100% so..you know, we're lurking."5. Dean: "Like a really hot Incredible Hulk? Come on dude. She ganked her boss and her ex-boyfriend. That doesn't sound rash and unconscious."4. Madison: "What? Doesn't everybody think that being a victim of random violence is the best thing that ever happened to them?"3. Dean: "Awesome!" Sam: "Dean could you be a bigger geek about this?" Dean: "I'm sorry man but what about a human by day, uh a…a freak animal killing machine by moonlight don't you understand? I mean werewolves are bada**."2. Sam: "OK, Sparky. And you know what, after we kill it we can go to Disneyland."1. Dean: "Sammy I got this one. I'll do it." Sam: "She asked me to." Dean: "You don't have to." Sam: "Yes I do. Please. Just wait here."
Hollywood Babylon Quotes: A good example of meta being done right and wrong in this episode.
ReplyDelete16. Dean: "Well, I think being a PA sucks but the food these people get. Are you kidding me? I mean look at these things. They're like miniature Philly cheesesteak sandwiches. They're delicious."15. Dean: "Hey Sammy check it out. It's Matt Damon." Sam: "Yeah , I'm pretty sure that's NOT Matt Damon." Dean: "No it is." Sam: "Well Matt Damon just picked up a broom and started sweeping." 14. Dean: "You were…you were desert soldier #4 in Metal Storm: The Destruction of Jared's Sin." Gerard: "I was." Dean: "I knew I recognized you. I am a huge fan. I mean your turn as a tractor crash victim in Critters 3.." 13. Marty: "What would ghosts be scared of? Maybe uh, maybe shot guns." McG: "OK that makes even less sense than salt." Walter: "These people are idiots."12. Operator: "Now to the right here is Stars Hollow. It's the setting for the television series Gilmore Girls, and if we're lucky we might even catch one of the show's stars." Sam: "Come on." 11. Marty: "But Jay, the poor b** killed himself for real. Shouldn't we shut it down or something?" Jay: "We had a moment of silence for him at breakfast. He was just a studio guy."10. Dean: "No, no, no. The movie Poltergeist. You know nothing of your cultural heritage do you?"9. Sam: "You find out there's an afterlife and this is what you do with it?" Marty: "I need a little jazz on the page."8. McG: "Brad, this is a horror movie." Brad: "Yeah and who says horror has to be dark, huh? It's just…it's sort of depressing don't you think?"7. Dean: "Well we already torched her so what are we dealing with? Another ghost?" Sam: "Maybe." Dean: "Yeah but these things don't usually tag team."6. Marty: "I cannot believe there's an afterlife." Dean: "Oh there's an afterlife alright, but mostly it's a pain in the a**." 5. Marty: "You are one hell of a PA." Dean: "Yeah I know."4. Dean: "Ha, this map is totally worth the $5 bucks. Hey we've got to go check out Johnny Ramones grave when we're done here." Sam: "You want to dig him up too?" Dean: "Bite your tongue heathen."3. Dean: "What's a PA?" Sam: "I think they're kind of like slaves."2. Sam: "This seem like swimming pool weather to you Dean? I mean it's practically Canadian." 1. Sam: "You know, maybe the spirits are trying to shut down the movie because they think it sucks. Cuz I mean it kind of does."
The first 3 are not even close:
ReplyDeleteAll Hell Breaks Loose, pt2
Sympathy for the Devil
Darkside of the Moon (even if Phantom Traveller was great)
The last one though is a tough one. Monster Movie was a really great one-off episode that had Dracula on a moped. However, I think the Pizza man gets my vote for Caged Heat. :)
Dark side of the Moon is the one episode I would happily salt and burn and throw a party doing it.That episode is not a favourite of mine I dont know what it did for Dean but it did nothing for Sam except Sam hurting Dean again and underline again with his memories while Dean was unaware how his memories hurt his brother esp the Mary one and Dean throwing the amulet away at the end.
ReplyDelete..//PSST//..HEY..ALL SUPERNATURAL FANS...what happen if all of us go to a party with THE CAST AND CREW OF S.P.N may be this will be the song all will be ..DANCING...youtu.be/flBsnQG97Lc...COMMON ..HIT THAT BOTTON & D.A,N.C.E
ReplyDeleteAll Hell Breaks Loose, Part 2, for me it had everything a season finale should have and there is nothing I did not like.
ReplyDeleteSympathy for the Devil, this one was harder for me as I liked Garth, but went with seeing Lucifer's meat suit, Bobby taking his body back from a Demon and meeting the new Meg.
Dark Side of the Moon is in my top 5 eps, for me it had everything and I LOVE Colin Ford.
Caged Heat, and I am shocked it is not winning. A grandpa no one should ever have, Crowley, Meg helping, and the winner for me PIZZA MAN, what a hoot Castiel was and the Meg kiss. lol
I voted the same way you did and for the same reasons, you just said it much better..
ReplyDeleteSome of these were easier then others. I will admit. I had a hard time choosing. I mainly eneded up choosing the ones I thought would lose. I was right so far of course.
ReplyDeleteI vote AHBL 2
ReplyDeleteI don't think there's any problem here.
AHBL is an epic episode which needs no reminding.
I loved the part at the end where the brothers are talking and Sam askes Dean if he died and Dean has to admit it.
Then I just adore this part, it tears me up every time:-
[ Sam: You've saved my life over and over. I mean, you sacrifice
everything for me. Don't you think I'd do the same for you? You're my
big brother. There's nothing I wouldn't do for you. And I don't care
what it takes, I'm gonna get you out of this. Guess I gotta save your
ass for a change.] Sigh!
That's why I hate the road it took In Seasons 4 and 5!
X
Jump the Shark.
The less said the better. Finding out John had another son was annoying, add that to the fact that he was already dead before the Winchesters even arrived, made it even worse.
X
X
I vote "Party On Garth" simply because I didn't like the other one.
Any episode that contains Becky can never get my vote, and Becky writing Wincest is even worse.
X
X
I vote for Phantom Traveller, simply because I loved the episode. I loved the suits, the fake ID's, the fear of flying.; everything about it.
X
I liked Dark Side of the Moon too.
The clip with little Sammy was so sweet and I just love Colin Ford as Wee Sam; then I enjoy the sort of mystical, God stories.
This episode however was ruined by the horrible ending. I want to see the Samulet back. I don't think I will ever forgive Jensen for not wanting to wear it any more. He could have got a light plastic one made for the fight scenes.! Bad Jensen! Only teasing but please bring it back!
X
X
I vote Caged Heat, a great episode with lots of action, and it's the first time I begin to suspect that all was not right with Castiel.
Castiel is a powerful angel, and the moment in the corridor when they had the hellhounds on their tail played out so false.
Why couldn't Castiel simply take them out. Why leave Meg behind to fight them when all he needed to do was snap his fingers and kill them. There were just so many clues in that episode.
X
Then I loved the face-off between Samuel and Dean.
I love it when Dean is at his most threatening.
X
I like Monster Movie too, but it just doesn't have the power of Caged Heat.
AHBL. Loved the parts with Dean's soliloquy and the crossroads demon. I wasn't crazy about Sam's change in personality when he woke up. I thought it was a little overdone and an example of plot influencing character. The cemetery scene had issues (they didn't try hard enough to stop Jake), but the scene with the demons escaping was scary, the death of YED was welcome, and ending on a positive note was awesome. As for Jump the Shark, I liked the episode and liked the character development we got of Sam and Dean. I didn't have the same issues with the introduction of Adam that other people had, but the episode isn't was as strong as AHBL.
ReplyDeleteSympathy for the Devil - I thought Lucifer taking over his vessel was sufficiently creepy, and if this was the episode where Cas comes back and kicks Zac's ass at the storage locker, that's a plus. What I didn't like the emotional beating down of Sam. I get that Dean and Bobby were shocked and angry, but it was hard to watch. I also can't remember whether there was any acknowledgement that Sam was tricked. Party On Garth is just forgettable for me.
Dark Side of the Moon - I thought it was great seeing these different points and memories and Sam and Dean's lives. I also liked the attempt to show Heaven, and Zac made a great villain. Cas talking to Dean on the car radio was awesome, as was the fireworks scene. To be honest, I don't understand a lot of the criticism about the brother relationship in this one and the claims that Sam was being poorly written. It's been established, really since the pilot, that Sam's biggest desire growing up was to get away from the hunting lifestyle and be normal. We found out later that the cause was that he sensed something about the evil demon blood and maybe his Lucifer destiny. Sam wasn't choosing which memories came up and trying to hurt Dean with that any more than Dean was choosing memories of his mother to rub in Sam's face the fact that he had memories of his mother and Sam didn't. It's also possible that Zac influenced which memories they saw in an attempt to sow discord. Dean throwing away the amulet at the end was hard, but the show can't be all brotherly hugs. There's no drama in that. Phantom Traveler was another forgettable episode.
Last one was tough but I went with Caged Heat. I think that one, Family Matters, and AiS are probably the only three that I really enjoyed from the first half of season 6. I liked Monster Movie too.
I liked Heart even if it was so sad, and Sam's awkwardness when sitting around with Madison was cute.
ReplyDeleteThen the Rock, Paper, Scissors was epic.
X
11. Sam: "Dean, always with the scissors."
X
Dean: [dials Sam] Let me guess. You're sitting on her couch like a stiff trying to think of something to say.
X
X
X
I don't like this episode and the quotes don't inspire me either, so I'm going to go for the more general ones.
X
Marty: "I cannot believe there's an afterlife." Dean: "Oh there's
an afterlife alright, but mostly it's a pain in the a**."
X
Dean: "Well, I think being a PA sucks but the food these people
get. Are you kidding me? I mean look at these things. They're like
miniature Philly cheesesteak sandwiches. They're delicious."
If I am not mistaken, they could not use their powers in Caged Heat. Didn't Meg try to leave and could not? So many eps and so much to remember. lol
ReplyDeleteCrowley cast a spell over the place preventing Meg from leaving. Cas still had his powers but he's never had the power to just snap his fingers to get rid of all demons (and presumably hell hounds, although we've never seen an angel fight hell hounds) within a certain radius (except when he was God). Cas could have stayed behind with Meg to fight to the hell hounds, but they chose to have Sam, Dean and Cas continue forward to find Crowley. It doesn't really matter anyway because Meg was successful with the hell hounds.
ReplyDeleteWow, first time I've voted where the episodes I voted for were actually ahead. Though close with Monster Movie and Caged Heat round. Come on Monster Movie!
ReplyDeletecaged heat
ReplyDeleteSame here. But, for second my obvious choice would be Sympathy For Devil. PO,G is one of the bottom most episodes of the series.
ReplyDeleteAll Hell Breaks Loose, Part 2 - very easy choice. I love season 2 finale. Deans monologue over Sam's dead body, deal with demon. John. Bobby and Ellen. Sam not taking long figure out what Dean did. Sam and Deans talk before shows Bobby and Ellen. YED death.
ReplyDeleteParty On, Garth.
Phantom Traveler - because i liked more then Dark Side of the Moon.
Monster Movie.
Quotes:
Heart:
Sam: "Dean, always with the scissors."
Dean: "Sammy I got this one. I'll do it." Sam: "She asked me to."
Dean: "You don't have to." Sam: "Yes I do. Please. Just wait
here."
Hollywood Babylon:
Sam: "You know, maybe the spirits are trying to shut down the movie because they think it sucks. Cuz I mean it kind of does.
Dean: "Ha, this map is totally worth the $5 bucks. Hey we've got to go
check out Johnny Ramones grave when we're done here." Sam: "You want
to dig him up too?" Dean: "Bite your tongue heathen."
The Rapture was amazing!!! Too bad is out... =(
ReplyDeletedarn, when i voted Monster Movie was ahead by 3, i refreshed it a couple minutes later it is down by 3. C'mon more Monster Movie support!
ReplyDeleteAll Hell Breaks Loose,Pt.2 - Some of the most powerful scenes we've seen so far.Dean talking to a dead Sam,the deal with the crossroads demon and the entire cemetery scene.
ReplyDeleteSympathy for the Devil - I loved so many things in this episode.Bobby stabbing himself to stop the demon from hurting Dean, the revelation about Dean being Michael's vessel, the "angel condom" line(it came out of nowhere),Cas kicking some angel butt. And I felt so sorry for Nick.Mark Pellegrino was great.
Dark Side of the Moon - Kudos to whoever though the whole revisiting favorite memories theme for Heaven.Such a sad episode though.I long for the day God will appear and Dean will empty his gun on his face!
Caged Heat - Lots of action and a few unforgettable lines.Crowley's "death" was cool as well, although I suspect that was because we all knew that he wasn't really dead.Otherwise,I would be much more upset.
Quotes
Heart:
- Sam: "Check the freezer.Maybe there's some human hearts behind the Haagen Dazs or something."
- Madison: "You get a few scotches in him and he starts hitting on anyone in a five mile radius. You know the type."
Sam: "Yes,I do."
Hollywood Babylon:
- Dean: "Sam,check it out,it's Matt Damon."
Sam: "Yeah, pretty sure that's not Matt Damon."
Dean: "No,it is."
Sam: "Well,Matt Damon just picked up a broom and started sweeping."
- Dean: "What's a PA?"
Sam: "I think they're kind of like slaves."
I'd have to watch both episodes over again before I could vote fairly so I think I'm going to give the whole poll a pass.
ReplyDeleteMy exceptions to the "they suck" rule are Weekend at Bobby's and Family Matters. Still with Weekend at Bobby's they wrote Dean as an outright whiny jerk and for Family Matters I pretty much skip the characterization and live on the action.
ReplyDeleteMy vote just tied MM with CH :)
ReplyDeleteYep, one missing amulet from Dark Side of the Moon on. I miss that necklace. For me that's another mark against Dark Side of the Moon.
ReplyDeleteI think I am the only person in this fandom that finds the pizza man to be a negative, especially on rewatch. I much prefer the real pizza man in Monster Movie and his general apathy for weirdo clients.
ReplyDeleteBobby taking his body back was the best thing about Sympathy for the Devil to me. Not as much a fan of the aftermath except for Dean's speech about how Bobby has to live because he hasn't stopped being a hunter. I also like his scene with Crowley getting back his legs.
ReplyDeleteIt's completely ridiculous, but I found it absolutely hysterical.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everything you said about AHBL2 and Jump the Shark. I had forgotten that Becky and her hideous Wincest tendencies were in Sympathy for the Devil. I might have to vote for Party On Garth just because of that. I also want the amulet back if for no other reason than it being a symbol of the brothers' bond. I kind of expected to see it at the end of season 6 as a token that RoboSam was truly gone and the brothers were a team again.
ReplyDeleteMy theory about Rock, Paper, Scissors is that Sam calls it when he really, really wants something. Dean knows it's important to Sam that way and gives in without looking like he's giving in. I figure it's bro code.
ReplyDeleteI adore those quotes from Hollywood Babylon because they always make me laugh.
I totally support this statement. I've already lost The Kids are Alright. It would be such a shame to lose this one too. Go Monster Movie!!!
ReplyDelete...woooow...OMG...CAGE HEAT AND MONSTER MOVIE IS I TIE BY FAR..one point difference is not enough to win these battle.
ReplyDeleteFirst voted for AHBL Part 2. That's not even a contest for me. Second voted for Sympathy For the Devil. Again not a hard choice for me since I am not a big Garth fan. Third voted for Phantom Traveler. I love seeing Dean all scared flying. XD Sad to see it is losing right now. :( Fourth voted for Monster Movie. I love how it is done like an old horror movie.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't stand the pizza man scene in Caged Heat either. You are not alone.
ReplyDeleteThe pizza man scene was in completely bad taste and it was only thrown in as a bone for fans who see Castiel as "the innocent "baby " angel who knows nothing of the terrible practices of us animalistic humans" Pwah.
ReplyDeleteI often feel in the minority about Supernatural. Good to say that I'm not completely alone though.
ReplyDeleteWoo hoo! We need more people to show MM the love. Welcome to SpoilerTV. Thanks for your vote and your comment.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly is a tight race. It will be a heart breaker either way but I'm rooting for Monster Movie all the way. I've lost so many of my favorites so far it seems like karma ought to give me a break. :-P
ReplyDeleteI feel bad for Phantom Traveler too. I really liked that episode and Amanda was all kinds of awesome. Mostly though it has a lot of great brother moments, especially in the little things. Yeah for the MM vote.
ReplyDeleteI never understood how an experienced hunter such as Bobby could get possessed in the first place, why did he not have a tattoo or at least an amulet for protection? You know, since the gates of hell opened in AHBL the danger of possession is too high... and he should know better..
ReplyDeleteIt was equally stupid to have Samuel Campbell getting possessed in 4.3. Even his daughter Mary had a charm against possession, but at least in that time they supposedly weren't dealing with demons on a daily basis.
But, I completely accept your statement about season 2 finale. Season 2 has the best premiere and finale ever. I don't really know why, I like season 2 finale even better than 5th season finale. And episodes like "What is and What Should Never Be" drained tears out my eyes. And Dean worrying about his little brother going to dark side is just priceless.
ReplyDeleteI love season 2 the most for individual episodes. But when it comes to mytharc I love season 4. I guess, season 5 would have been better with more budget allotted.
I love your interpretation of Rock, Paper, Scissors, Dahne, even though it's not been even hinted at in the episodes where it has been shown. But it would be an awesome thing coming from the old brother.
ReplyDeleteSeason 2 is my favorite too although I still think season 3 would have been if it weren't for the writer's strike screwing the whole thing up. WiaWSNB is my favorite episode. AHBL2 is my favorite finale. In My Time of Dying was phenomenal although Lazarus Rising is just a shade above it in my list. I was not a fan of the season 4 mytharc since it killed the brother relationship and made me less sympathetic to Sam. I'm glad the blood addiction thing was only one season. Half way through season 4 and all of season 5 was the closest SPN has ever come since it first aired to NOT being my favorite show.
ReplyDeleteYou raise very good points. I had a problem with that too. The only explanation I ever came up with was that Meg was somehow stronger than the amulet/tattoo Bobby had to have. I mean he gave the brothers anti-possession charms in Born Under a Bad Sign. Surely he had a few lying around for himself. All in all, I think the writers needed to hit a plot point and sacrificed characterization to do it. Not a good choice in my opinion.
ReplyDeletePhantom Traveler did have some great brother moments too. That's another reason I voted for Phantom Traveler.
ReplyDeleteNo need to be sorry, not everyone likes the same episodes and if we did, this poll would be boring!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could pinpoint WHY I love this episode so much...but I can't seem to find the words. It just fills my heart, then breaks it, then makes me hopeful at the end because really, this point is Sam's turning point in season 5. He becomes more responsible and more a driver of the story through to Swan Song. I dunno. It's just so good to me.
Weekend at Bobby's is another that's really wonderful. I can agree with that. Family Matters...I'd have to rewatch it to form an opinion but I seem to remember thinking that one was decent.
ReplyDeletehaha! well thanks :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE LOVE LOVE what you said about Dark Side of the Moon - and I completely agree!! Sam's whole life was about independence and being how own person outside of his dad and Dean, so I agree his Heaven memories make perfect sense!
ReplyDeletewow - I never even considered that about the Rock, Paper, Scissors. Interesting, and very well could be true...
ReplyDeleteI'm so curious to know who the 25 people are who voted Jump the Shark over All Hell Breaks Loose pt2, and why they did!
ReplyDeleteAnyone?
Bueller?
Disqus generic email template..my DEAR friend I am so SORRY for your bad karma but ..CAGE HEAT will win these battle.keep your tear napkin close..(SNIF,SNIF).I will share your pain & sorrow.
ReplyDeleteHa!Well,I did thought about voting for it,cause the results are just sad.Sure,it wasn't anything special, but I don't think it was THAT bad.
ReplyDeleteIf I didn't like All Hell Breaks Loose so much I would have gone for the pity vote.
So here you go..Maybe some people felt sorry for it!
haha! I guess that's true! I don't think it's bad either, just nowhere near as good as All Hell Breaks Loose (either part). :)
ReplyDeleteI'm not giving up yet. Although my prediction says Caged Heat, my heart says more people know how awesome Monster Movie is. :-)
ReplyDeleteIn think it depends on what you go into Supernatural for. I do not like excessive emoangsty episodes of which Dark Side of the Moon may be the worst. However, there are many, many fans that like the show best when one or both of the brothers are getting their heart stomped on and tears flow like the Niagara. For those fans, an episode like Dark Side of the Moon is golden.
ReplyDeletePity vote - definitely!
ReplyDeleteI never thought about Rock, Paper, Scissors that way. It's very interesting theory and could be easily true.
ReplyDeleteI like emoangst sometimes too but the moment Dean threw out the amulet in DSOTM it was just too much for me. It's one of my least favorite episodes.
ReplyDeleteDisqus generic email template..monster movie is so cool for the following reason...1) is mostly black & white,.....2) the bad guy is so funny and cool....3)..the blond super hot chic and there clothes very delightful by male eyes.
ReplyDeleteLOL!
ReplyDeleteAfter seeing the episode today, I think I loved it just because of the fireworks scene, Sam with Bones, Ash and Pam, and the angel Joshua. Joshua is so looked over. I loved how he said he was rooting for the brothers. He also made a great point about God.
ReplyDeleteHe already had brought Cas back and put Sam and Dean on a plane. God never usually does things like that, so they should take what they can get. On SPN, God's supposed to be like Death, He's neutral
for the most part. If he or Death weren't neutral then Earth wouldn't be the way its supposed to be. And free will would be pointless, imo.
I'm a fan of Cas and even I didn't like that scene.
ReplyDeleteI agree 100% with what you said about DSOTM as well.
ReplyDeleteI don't know. Dean seemed pretty upset when he had to go down into the hole under Adam's Mom's bed in JTS. lol
ReplyDeleteI didn't like that either, but the pros outweighed the cons for me.
ReplyDeleteEasy decisions all round here again:
ReplyDelete1. All Hell Breaks Loose Part 2: This is hands down one of the best episodes the show has ever produced, which is saying a lot! Dean's monologue over Sam's body remains one of Jensen's best pieces of work on the show, it still moves me to tears every time I watch it, even though I've literally lost count of how many times that is. Aside from that, this episode has action, drama and emotions overflowing. I actually didn't mind Jump the Shark, or the introduction of Adam, but it had no chance up against the Juggernaut that is AHBL2.
2. Sympathy for the Devil: I enjoyed this episode a lot - revelations about the angels, Dean as Michael's vessel, Bobby essentially sacrificing himself rather than hurting Dean, and later reassuring Sam that he isn't cutting him out just because he screwed up big time. It also compares extremely favourably to Party On, Garth, which I felt was one of the weaker episodes of the season. So far, I am not a fan of the character of Garth, though to be fair, of the two episodes he appeared in, one was fairly weak and the other is in my bottom five episodes of all time. In fact, S7, Time for a Wedding is possibly my least favourite Supernatural ep ever, but I digress: POG has a new MOTW, an amusing scene with Sam and Dean getting drunk and the reveal of ghost!Bobby, but unfortunately has little else going for it (and don't even get me started on Mr. Fizzles, or whatever the sock-puppet was called *shudders*). SftD all the way here.
3. I went with Dark Side of the Moon on this one. I actually quite like both episodes, but Dark Side of the Moon just edged it for me, possibly because I've seen it more recently, but also because it was a much weightier episode.
4. Monster Movie! This episode doesn't receive half as much love as it should: it's got fantastic humour, a load of brother moments, a great PiP and one of the best MotW they've ever had. It's one of the few light-hearted episodes in S4 and I think possibly gets lost amid the angst sometimes, but it really is one of the best episodes of the season IMO. I actually quite enjoy Caged Heat as well, but it can't compare to the awesome that is MM.
Yeah, I love all those scenes you mentioned too - especially the fireworks. I think that's my all-time favorite scene of the entire show (thus far).
ReplyDeleteJoshua was a great character/angel. I enjoyed his scenes. I think you're right about God and Death; all powerful, but they don't interfere in the affairs of man. Free-will/choice. Everyone has it.
I loved it, LOL at the look on Dean's face when Cas was kissing Meg and the what was that and Cas saying I learned it from the Pizza Man, just to dang funny.
ReplyDeleteYes, Season 3 would have been great, if there were no writers strike. Season 3 had a good concept of saving Dean from dying and love between the brothers was at its peak in season 2 and season 3.
ReplyDeleteBut, I don't really agree with you when it comes to season 4 and 5. They can't really have 1-3 season episode format all the time. That would be boring. And I guess, in the history of TV shows, Supernatural is the show with most complaints. That is because the fans of the show are really, really emotionally attached to the characters in the show more than characters in any other show. They just can't accept anything happening to their favorite character, but many a times fans fail to realize that, that is what drives story line. If fans want to characters to continue on the show as they wish, then there wouldn't be any real issues the characters would be facing.
