Just WOW to this season so far. I actually liked every little thing of this episode. Arlene and Terry's scenes (which I thought would piss me off) were nice to watch, Sam and Luna's scenes were not so boring (I loved that cute little wolf, lol) and Andy/Jason are doing well together this season. I'm not sure I was in a good mood or it was actually an awesome episode... I thought last season was great in the beggining too, so I'm trying to keep my expectations down.
Well, I finally got my dose of Chris Meloni, definitely the best thing about this episode, but a little pissed off that vampires are trying to take over the feminist movement with the whole Lilith thing, LOL!
things i think may this episode..AWESOME....TARA VAMPIRE BREAKDOWN,,,,WOOOW.....,EMMA,PUPPY TRANSFORMATION...SO ..CUTE...ALL INTERROGATION SCENE SECUENCE....AND...MELONI,PRESENCE ..IMPRESIVE
-Vampire Tara is pretty interesting so far. It almost seems like she has advanced abilities that other vampires take years to have, such as her strength and her weird levitating-like-perch on Sookie's kitchen sink. I am still holding out for a sudo-Demon or even 'magical' explanation. It's curious that she didn't fully obey Pam and left Sookie's, and for someone who used to have A LOT to say, how quiet she's been..
"The Guardian" (Roman) I also liked. I think the back story about God creating Lilith first before Adam and Eve is an interesting twist...and because there seems to be SO much going on with Vamps and their makers this season, I have to wonder if Roman's ritual of 'drinking the blood the Lilith', means he is the actual prodigy of Lilith, and if so, how interesting, because the text suggest that Adam and Eve (humans) where created for nourishment, which seems to be the thing that philosophically separates the vampires into two main factions... .(and the whole time I kept picturing Lilith as Bebe Neuwirth :p ) Lilith in myth is also associated with 'Demons' (and or dark witch craft, and or a "sacred prostitute")..I have to wonder if this icon is what strings the species together and if she literally could come back from the dead to play a role...(Tara???) IN Grecian versions Lilith is associated with "wild beasts of the Island and desert, crying to his fellow"
-The Authority Board seems interesting too! I don't think they introduced her name in the episode, but I think Roslyn HARRIS turned Steve Newlin. Additionally I am interested in Chancellor Drew's story. (Usually in Vampire folklore it's forbidden to make a turn one so young), but I am curious about whom he ever was and if there was a personal reason (like being someone's son) that he was turned.
-Pam: Her flash backs where brief. I am hopeful we will get more as the season progresses. It's interesting to think that Eric would save anyone, and I would have to think turning her might have also been out of desperation of being caught between life and death, much like Tara...as Eric warned her to be careful, as dead bodies of the prostitutes seem to be piling up around her.
-Sookie has seemed to have stayed grounded and this side of her continues to impress me.
-Lafayette seems VERY broken and I am just waiting for some shoe to drop with Jesus body and the Demon that was passed, let alone if any ghosts are wondering around.
-Patrick/Terry- Terry was pretty freaky this episode. His flash backs seem pretty bad, but am at a point where I think Patrick is the harbinger of bad news and what ever is going to happen with them...
-Jason has been pretty tough. I was impressed that he dumped the V out, but I wonder what's going to happen when he and Andy find out about Debbie Pelt and the circumstances of her death??
-Marcus' Mom/Luna/Sam/Emma/Alcede - That Wolf is a piece of work, asking Alcede to be the leader of the pack and then going to Luna's to ask about Emma, whom sadly seems to be a wolf, but maybe she just choose to be one, because she's seen her daddy be one?? Luna is someone I would like to get know better. (And how could Sam even suggest to Luna what to do about family?! -Does he not remember what just happened with his own?!) But that would be horrible to have your child taken away, because all ware-wolves believe all ware-wolves belong in packs!
Eric/Bill/Nora- I thought the interrogation scenes were hysterical! "Long Live the King!" It's so strange seeing Bill and Eric just bit the bullet for each other. -Although I thought in front of the Authority, Bill was extra accommodating. Hope Nora doesn't get axed. I would love for her to stick around a while.
I thought it was a good episode, but I thought the premiere was better.
Chris isn't in the rest of the season, he's already filming one movie and in the middle of filming another. The recent inteview I sent in here confirms that he'll won't be around for the rest of the season, something does happen. I won't say....
I enjoyed this episode a lot more than the premiere, actually. Vampire Tara is probably 10 times more interesting than regular Tara to me, though I was resistant to her change. I'm enjoying the Bill/Eric stuff A LOT - I knew there was the potential for a great bromance in there. Terry's getting super creepy, and I'm worried for him. I thought Chris Meloni was fantastic, too. One of the things I'm most looking forward to is the Pam stuff - I hope her flashbacks continue. She's still one of my absolute favorite characters on this show, and she's totally made the first two episodes for me. Here's hoping we get more.
On a random note, I did have an "AHHHHHH" moment when Christopher Heyerdahl walked across the screen to interrogate Bill - he's always going to be "Alistair" to me, one of the creepiest TV villains EVER.
Oh! -I must have missed that one! That's too bad, because he seems SO interesting! (But there's always flashbacks and unusual death circumstance - like with Russell)
Wow what an episode. I loved the entire thing. Eric/Bill sticking together without wavering was impressive indeed from seasons past who woulda thought! Sookie and LaLa standing in the kitchen afraid to approach Tara was funny. And The Vampire authority, well , just plain hot.
Way too much Tara and too much Terry and Arlene for me. I can only wish for Vamp-Tara to experience the true death so many times an episode, but even that gets old. Seriously though, what did Lafayette expect exactly? Tara would turn and come back HAPPIER? She was a mega-bitch when she was alive and she was only going to get worse after she turned. Now he has second thoughts and thinks he made a mistake? Sigh... Yawn.
Not a fan at all of frat house Jessica either..... Where is the arc going or is it just for "comedy" effect? Hopefully it is past now, but two episodes of it was one episode too much for me honestly.
So far the Jason and Andy story is fairly lame too. In fairness Andy and Jason stories are usually just for comic relief... which is why I tend to not enjoy them much.
The Alcide and Sam arc I'm pretty neutral about. It does not interest me, but it dos not annoy me like the Terry/ Arlene arc, he Andy/ Jason arc, or especially the Tara arc. Basically as a separate arc I have very little interest in it, but when the shiters or weres are involved with Sookie I can enjoy them.
The Authority HQ was interesting and fun. Although I'm not sure I like the fact they brought in Lilith and some pre-Old Testament religious text. I much prefer my vampires ass areligious and I'm not sure Lilith fits into the vampire mythos from the novels...
I'm hoping the annoying Jessica arc is done and she will attempt to rescue her maker and Eric... maybe bring Pam along too. That wouldn't suck!
Honestly though I think this season they have just run away from everything I like about the series and anything even remotely related to the books. I will give it another episode (two at most) for it to get better, but seeing as from the looks of things only 1 of the 6 arcs is truly interesting to me this season I could stop watching and not miss it.
I guess you didn't get the memo about any shred of the books being foregone completely from here on out? Not even joking all that much. I am neutral about the whole Lilith thing for now. I actually liked this episode more than premiere, not that that's saying much. This season needs a whole lot of Pam and very little Tara (or no Tara, if only that were possible). I just don't get the point of having sooo many story lines, especially with characters I could (and at least half of the fandom) give an eff less about. I try to stay upbeat and positive but this show is being run into the ground and I thought that I wouldn't mind such a diveregence from the source material but after the Sookie/Eric sex scene and now we get no Quinn as well, I just don't know if TB will continue to be appointment TV for me any longer. I'm already watching it during the encore slot as it is.
Well, I know a lot about Abrahamism aka Judeo-Christian religion, with an emphasis on Catholicism and Kabbalah, call it a hobby. But my fascination with Lilith is mostly having to do with the Oppressed Woman. It's really interesting stuff. I like the name so much so that I took for my blogging and podcasting name. That is all. :p
I think I recall your comment, but I did not quite get there myself until last night.
I've never understood why they have so many stories with equal time..... I get that some people like the supporting cast more than the stars, but I am not one of them. I never liked seeing so much of the town folk since none of them are quality lead characters. Some aren't even that great as supporting cast! XD
Mostly I just find it frustrating that they can base a TV series on a series of books called The Southern Vampire Mysteries and remove the mystery from the series for the most part! XD
SO true about the lack of Mystery. I don't know where the writers are going with this story (and I suspect they don't either). I think we are falling into Lost territory where the writers need an end date to make everything more focused and streamlined so that a cohesive theme can made for the remainder. If I remember right, the last Sookie Stackhouse novel comes out next May (I read the one that just came out a couple a months ago and I am not looking forward to how Ms. Harris is going to end things for my favorite psychic waitress) which would make a grand total of 13 books and I am pretty sure they aren't going to give this show as many seasons so I think when renewal time comes around for this show, they should lock them in for however many seasons they think is profitable and satisfactory, but that's just one woman's opinion.
I knew Eric and Bill would have each others back,e ven in the face of torture. Had a moment of appreciation for Eric S.'s performance in the scene where he's told that his sister is dead. Lafayette was great..going from that scene stealing moment when Sookie told him to get the Tru Blood from the cabinet to that scene where he's trying to get up the nerve to stake Tara. I'm glad at least one of them realized the selfishness of turning her. I'm actually liking this story (I was dubious) I like that it's focusing on these three lifelong friends. I felt like we lost the sense of their closeness over the last couple of seasons.
I just blanked on Arlene's husbands name...TERRY! His story is setting up to be interesting but I'm really hoping the lead in strum and drang is over and we can get moving.
The wolf pack story is the only thing that's not working for me. Major yawn! Though the puppy was kind of adorable.
I think there is still a crime-mystery aspect there (like who freed Russell Edgington and why?), but I think Ball took into a direction where we actually focus on 'people', the diversity, and explore social-political concepts behind Xenophobia and how any given being may react to what it doesn't [yet] understand and how we/people/beings deal with acceptability verses survival of the fittest -both emotionally and physiologically!
I think Sookie's being put on the back burner for a reason. I think they don't just want to be overly repetitive and have it start out with Sookie immediately involved in the bigger adventure, which is half the fun having Bill and Eric out of her life for a few episodes....But from what spoilers I have read, it seems again everything is interrelated and will come down to some specific point. -Which how that all happens is also a mystery. (which is why one would move away from the books, because then non of us have an absolute advantage to predict it)
I think the FEA aspect of Sookie is important to get to, but I think the show is trying to be true to the idea that we shaped by the people around us, and so who's in our lives does effect who we are and/or whom we become.
I agree that there are mystery elements at play, but it is not set up as a central mystery with a starting event and a solution like the books. Instead you have 6 separate plots with mystery elements... usually more horror related than whodunnit or true mystery.
And I think you're right about Alan Ball's exploration of society as a whole too. I just do not not like that nearly as much since I think the majority of the characters on the series are one note and boring. They were designed to be back up and supporting cast and their expansion into their own leading roles comes off badly to me.
As for Sookie being placed on the back burner... Why? She is the best part of the series, the anchor of the entire series and happens to have won an Emmy during the season that did focus on her (and the mystery might I add) as the central figure.
Oh well, I don't need to like it or watch it in the end....
-Perhaps they want to keep the FEA-war something that clashes into this Vampire political situation some how towards the end of the season. --That this idea of giving us an actual Vampire origin story, may suggest how all the supernaturals derive, or what all their ancestors have been striving/fighting for since the beginning of time (or even multi-dimensional space). I think they have to be careful to not overwhelm the audience with too many things at once, as even last season, a lot of fans felt that way by getting into various types of demons, mediums, and witch craft, and I also think the magority of the fan base is all about the vamps...
Part of what they have done is sort get into one are in one season and then go else where in another, but eventually you can kind of see the bigger picture, because we keep getting more info, more back story with more and more loose ends, that allows us to never know when something from way back when is going to show it's face to us and how knowing what we know about that something from then to now, inconjunction to something else, might still relate and bridge the whole thing together.
One thing I find positive over last season is it seems to be more heavily flash backed, I think that is something that does the series good.
I never read TSVMS, but read THCMS instead. IMO just from that I felt Alan Ball and his team have kept the best part (the satire - the ironic comic situations) of Harris within True Blood even though he strayed from the books events and characters a bit, because even as I read that series, I can still see those aspects of it in True Blood as well)
I hope you hang in a little longer and that they continue to develope Sookie. I personally have liked how she is behaving these past few episodes, as she's been less naive and more reliable, honest, but with out talking away her sense of goodness.
You might be right about the origin aspect or the Fae wars (which is in the books actually but arrives in a different manner)... The thing about True Blood for me is that I watched it because of the books. I could deal with the campy qualities when there was recognizable aspects of the book still there to balance it out. I never liked the camp much though and I hated most of Season 2 because of it. Removing the basis of the book and leaving just Alan ball's take on Harris's characters is nothing I enjoy or would have watched if it were there from the beginning. Some of the best campy elements of the books are not in the series... namely Bubba the vampire..
Honestly I always felt that Laafayette not dying was a VERY bad sign of how Ball would handle the series and it proved to be just that. The evolution away from the books is something many fans like I guess... I've read that at least. Season to season I find the show less and less interesting because of the derivation from the books. I think there could have been a lot fo changes from the books I would like if Ball kept the tone of the books. Eliminating a central character and mystery and making it an ensemble piece changes too much for me.
I never looked at it in those terms until this year where Sookie is a supporting character in Tara's storyline. I have no interest in that whatsoever.
It's another Harris series (sadly a really short one) The Harper Connelly Mystery Series about a telepath whom can see the last images of the dead when she is close to a dead body... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harper_Connelly_Mysteries
I def have empathy for how you feel. One of my all time favorite books series was started to be adapted into a film trilogy and it really was watered down and they ruined the ending of the first piece, with no sequels on the horizon. I try to not read a series if I know it's being adapted to film or TV, because I think first impressions of reading materials can be so strong that it becomes a challenge and a disappointment to see it any other way.
I am one of the few people who am really interested in Tara and want her have a deeper story line, but I also think the way Sookie has been dealing with her so far this season is sort of redemptive, since so many times Sookie took things out on Tara, had double standards with Tara, and got so caught up in her own issues that Tara was kind of left to her own devises. But to see her stand by her and have faith in her is really pleasing, because it goes back to some of those season one feelings I had about her being nurturing and bringing some of the darker characters back to their 'humanity'.
*Some of the best campy elements of the books are not in the series... namely Bubba the vampire..*
They couldn't do the Bubba character because of the Presley family. They objected to the suggestion it was actually Elvis Presley who was the "damaged vampire".
Interesting! I assumed they avoided even trying to bring Bubba to the screen for that reason, but I had not ever read that they did in fact try to get the OK and it was shot down.
Too bad, I really liked what Bubba brought to the books! XD
Ahh OK, I have seen those books, but honestly I wasn't sure I liked Harris' style enough to warrant reading a different series than True Blood.
I am a vampire fan so I can handle a wider range of quality and styles in that genre, but if it moves onto some other supernatural element as the focus...... Not so much.
I understand about adaptations.... I tend to have either read the books already or have little interest in the books once I watch the series. Not always because the series itself was bad either! XD
I think there are some other Tara fans out there that enjoy her what some may call her "tortured soul" and others call a number of other things not suitable for mixed company! XD
To be able to see other's thoughts or emotions are still often called a telepathic ability, it's certainly different and very limiting compared to Sookie's , but Telepathy is about being able to share some kind of kenetic link with another's mind.
Wikipedia on Telepathy:
Telepathy (from the Greek τηλε, tele meaning "distant" and πάθη, pathe meaning "affliction, experience"),[3] is the transmission of information from one person to another without using any of our known sensory channels or physical interaction. The term was coined in 1882 by the classical scholar Frederic W. H. Myers,[1] a founder of the Society for Psychical Research,[2] and has remained more popular than the earlier expression thought-transference.[2][4] Many studies seeking to detect, understand, and utilize telepathy have been done within this field. Claims of telepathy as a real phenomenon are at odds with the scientific consensus. According to the prevailing view among scientists, telepathy lacks replicable results from well-controlled experiments.[5][6]Telepathy is a common theme in modern fiction and science fiction, with many superheroes and supervillains having telepathic abilities. In more recent times, neuroimaging has allowed researchers to actually perform early forms of mind reading.
I think the scene where Lafayette was going to stake Tara but Sookie prevented him what the best part of the episode. The Confrontation between Roman and the Boys was interesting. So the vampire hunt for Russell Edgington will now begin.
It was sort of weird, because I started reading them prior to the the beginning of season 4....I didn't know until late fall that Sookie was reading the first one in season 4 too! (as the HCMS happens to go along VERY well with the Necro-clairvoyant aspects of season 4)
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
WHOA! Meloni was one cold vampire, down right scary.. I can't wait for the next episode

I didn't find him cold, but VERY serious. No, I think he is very self controlled and very passionate about his cause.
ReplyDeleteI meant his eyes were very cold, but Meloni's a terrific actor he's perfect for this part
ReplyDeleteYa I understand what you mean now (: --I def think he'll def make for a great addition to the cast, a perfect role!
ReplyDeleteNo, I know, but surely he's a heavy reoccurer and if he doesn't die, and audience responds well to him, who knows what season six will bring (;

ReplyDeleteI think there is still a crime-mystery aspect there (like who freed Russell Edgington and why?), but I think Ball took into a direction where we actually focus on 'people', the diversity, and explore social-political concepts behind Xenophobia and how any given being may react to what it doesn't [yet] understand and how we/people/beings deal with acceptability verses survival of the fittest -both emotionally and physiologically!
ReplyDeleteI think Sookie's being put on the back burner for a reason.
ReplyDeleteAnd I think you're right about Alan Ball's exploration of society as a whole too.
About Sookie:
ReplyDelete-Perhaps they want to keep the FEA-war something that clashes into this Vampire political situation some how towards the end of the season.
Not sure what THCMS is....
ReplyDeleteYou might be right about the origin aspect or the Fae wars (which is in the books actually but arrives in a different manner)...

ReplyDeleteThey couldn't do the Bubba character because of the Presley family. They objected to the suggestion it was actually Elvis Presley who was the "damaged vampire".
Harper wasn't really a telepath, she was changed after her brush with death via the lightning strike.
ReplyDeleteHarper wasn't actually a telepath. She was changed after her brush with death via the lightning strike as a teenager.
ReplyDeleteInteresting!
ReplyDeleteI assumed they avoided even trying to bring Bubba to the screen for that reason, but I had not ever read that they did in fact try to get the OK and it was shot down.
Too bad, I really liked what Bubba brought to the books! XD
Ahh OK, I have seen those books, but honestly I wasn't sure I liked Harris' style enough to warrant reading a different series than True Blood.
ReplyDeleteI am a vampire fan so I can handle a wider range of quality and styles in that genre, but if it moves onto some other supernatural element as the focus......
ReplyDeleteWikipedia on Telepathy:
ReplyDeleteIt was sort of weird, because I started reading them prior to the the beginning of season 4....I didn't know until late fall that Sookie was reading the first one in season 4 too! (as the HCMS happens to go along VERY well with the Necro-clairvoyant aspects of season 4)
ReplyDelete...The only reason for me that bratty child is member of the council must be royalty like Erick. he is the last Heir of his Kingdom.he is so annoying
ReplyDeletethanks :) x
