Known Issues
- Currently your Disqus "Ranks" are not displaying. We're working with Disqus to get these back. Don't worry your ranks and points will still accumulate, they simply are not visible currently.
- Not able to upload images currently.
- Comments do not currently give points in Badgeville.

Testing Testing 1-2-3
ReplyDeleteVery nice. Been using these on my site for a while. Nice to see spoilertv get an upgrade!
ReplyDeleteCool, I'm liking the look of it
ReplyDeleteLooking good :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Sharon Seymour . Yep, it's pretty cool. Just need to get the ranks working ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks Sandi
ReplyDeleteCheers Manu
ReplyDeleteI think the features are great, the only thing that bothers me is everything is so close to the actual comment. If they had just given us a little more room it would look cleaner, less closed in,cluttered.
ReplyDeleteLooks okay
ReplyDeleteLooking good, i have been using this on one other blog so far and it seems to work well, hooray for the upgrade! :)
ReplyDeleteWhoa! I think I like it, but it's definitely going to take some time to get used to.
ReplyDeleteHey laura3341 Thanks for the feedback. I'll add it to our list and hopefully once we've collated it all we can look at how we can tweak the output/display slightly.
ReplyDeleteI'm havin' a bit of a issue, when I click on the text box, it slides to the left leaving the rest of the page white with no chance to read the comments. Only when i start writing it (almost) comes back to where it was.
ReplyDeleteYep, took me a while as well :) I've been using it on darkufo.blogspot.com to get see how it worked out.
ReplyDeleteHa me too :)
ReplyDeleteI'm on Opera 11.64
ReplyDeleteThanks @Luca Pennisi I think Opera is a known issue currently. I've tested it on Opera 12 and a number of issues seem to be present. Hopefully Disqus will fix these.
ReplyDeleteThe problem is that Opera has a very small number of users and as a result their fixes tend to take longer. This is one of the issues with using Opera they do a lot of non standard stuff at times which causes UI issues
Cool! I have a question: Where is the like button located?
ReplyDelete(iam not the) first one (to comment!)
ReplyDeleteAh, it looks strange after so long with the other one! But I'm sure it'll be great!
ReplyDeleteNot bad at all.. I'm diggin' it.
ReplyDeleteThe like button has been replaced by the Up and Down arrows for voting.
ReplyDeleteSo if you like a comment you vote up and if there is one you dislike vote down.
Disqus then uses this along with other variables to calculate the "best" comments for a thread. It will also be used later to automatically "hide" comments that get a certain amount of dislikes compared to likes.
Thanks Courtney , it does take a while to get used to ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks @Cheekymunky !
ReplyDeleteHey Seba_Canel
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy the new Disqus! Great upgrade! :D I especially like the "My Disqus" tab which shows notifications!
ReplyDeleteAnd after I had posted that, I realized how quickly it made the comment. The speed is a big improvement :D
ReplyDeleteYep, it does seem nice and quick :) Glad you like it.
ReplyDelete@a20b3bb538a1a8c7c71490626559c1cf
ReplyDeleteOh and you should get yourself a photo/avatar . Makes it easier to identify you :)
Giving it a try, seems to be fine :)
ReplyDeleteThis really does load quickly .I have slow internet and usually take ages to load the comment section. Great upgrade!
ReplyDeleteThanks @9428f6bfd81db20bf463c25cf3338683 glad it loads better for you :)
ReplyDeleteThat's what i thought but wasn't sure.Okay but this could be a problem i just clicked my like button and it accepted it,i don't think we should be able to "like" ourselves.
ReplyDeleteI'm a little confused about something else, all of the comments are now jumbled up time wise, whereas before you either had all the comments by oldest,or newest i'm not sure how to organize this,i'll check on the directions again.
it shows as you liked it but if you refresh you will see it didn't actually count :)
ReplyDeleteClick the Discussion dropdown to change the sort order.
ReplyDeleteThanks Julia Eason
ReplyDeleteWow is this thing MUCH faster and smoother on my processor! XD
ReplyDeletethis is awesome! :D
ReplyDeleteHa cool, that's one of the main reasons we upgrade :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, isn't really the first time I have issues because of that. But I love it, is so good, can't really stay without it.
ReplyDeleteGlad you like it.
ReplyDeleteQuite understand. I've raised the issue with Disqus support so hopefully they will be able to fix it at some point.
ReplyDeleteYour right,cool! And wow,it loads F A S T ! Me likey!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads up! I have to admit that it looks awesome but it will probably take me some time getting used to it :)
ReplyDeleteNeat. :)
ReplyDeleteit seems to be running much smoothly and also has a very neat and tidy look, well done guys :)
ReplyDeleteWill there be a way to actually see who gave you a like?
ReplyDeleteThanks :)
ReplyDeleteNot currently. It's something that Disqus are investigating.
ReplyDeleteOkay. Hope they figure out a way of doing it,its a nice thing to know, know what i mean? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteSo far the new system is decent and definitely quick. I like how you can promote individual comments and threads without doing the copy-paste routine. I do have a few nitpicks though. Probably the biggest is voting people's comments down. One of the reasons why people come to SpoilerTV is because of the friendly atmosphere. Voting comments down negates that and could give people a negative impression, especially if they are new. I've been on other sites were this kind of thing ends up causing a lot of tension. I would prefer to still be able to like comments but think dislike should be disabled.
ReplyDeleteThe other 2 are formatting issues. I looks like nested comments cut off a lot sooner than the last one which makes some comment threads a little harder to navigate. Also, any way to get the comment boxes to start out bigger. I must be getting old because it feels like I am squinting the whole time. Other than that this seems to be a positive change. Thanks for always finding ways to make SpoilerTV bigger and better.
I'm looking forward to seeing this in action. So far i'm impressed with the UI
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great feedback Dahne .
ReplyDelete1) As for the voting up/down, it's something we're going to keep a close eye on. Currently it can't be disabled although I'm sure Disqus will provide this ability in the future. I'm also well aware of the issue of downvoting although currently downvoted comments won't affect things to much currently.
2) Do you mean the indent levels? If so I'll check with Disqus if this is a setting we can change.
3) Again, that's something I'll need to ask Disqus. There is no default size settings on our Admin dashboard.
As with all things on the site we'll continue to monitor usage and feedback from our readers
seems like a really good system :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Sarah!
ReplyDelete2) Yes - before it allowed comments to indent more times over. Now it looks like it stops at the third level and then just stacks comments from there so that it is more difficult to follow the conversation. Not a huge deal but when the conversation goes that deep it's usually a good one to participate in so it would be nice to make sure you know which comments people are responding to. Thanks as always for taking feedback into consideration and for constantly improving the site. I appreciate all the hard work you do.
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely fast.I'd be happier if there wasn't a voting down option, but other than that I'm fine with it. : )
ReplyDeleteThis is not something that is good on a caffeine-deprived mind when waking up!
ReplyDeleteThat said, It's fast and if it has less errors and issues I will love it.... as soon as I've had my coffee that is.
The faster load time is a big plus for me since the Disqus lag has been bugging me for a while. I'm a little bummed about not being able to upload images but I'm sure that'll resolve itself eventually. All in all, I appreciate the upgrade.
ReplyDeleteOoo it is very snazzy I like it, However, I don't seem to be getting badgeville points for commenting is it linked to the new system? Perhaps just a little bit behind?
ReplyDeleteI'm not a big fan of the up vote / down vote system either. I liked the old version where you would just "like" a comment. Plus, now you can't scroll over and see who liked it as before. It's anonymous.
ReplyDeleteImage uploading will be coming shortly. It's on their Todo list. :)
ReplyDeleteBadgeville points will hopefully be working soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kat, as mentioned to Dahne. we'll be keeping an eye on things
ReplyDeletethe new disqus commenting is great. I saw that on filmonic and then on
ReplyDeleteIGN and now on this... It works just as great. But there was some pointing system on the old type if I remember correctly...next to my name I remember a "top 100" thingy. Is that gone now?
Yep, that's in the Known Issues section of the post above :)
ReplyDeleteOk
ReplyDeleteI brought up the same thing, until they find a way i'm just going to tell the person......i "liked" u ;)
ReplyDeleteAre we going to get our TOP _____ back? I was 7th out of the top 10.
ReplyDeleteAndy says so in the post :)
ReplyDeleteD'oh! And you know i read this before.....Thanks Sandi. :) liked u
ReplyDeleteThanks Sandi
ReplyDeleteI love it, it's so slick.
ReplyDelete*nods* The voting down and the not knowing who "liked" your post are the only two things that I think I don't really like about this version....
ReplyDeleteOther than that it looks really sharp!
Yeah, that's the big drawback. I just up-voted your post but you only know it's me if I tell you. :)
ReplyDeleteCheers Nick
ReplyDeleteAs I did yours too! ;D
ReplyDeleteI also noticed you can't see who's given the whole entry a "star" whereas with the previous version you were able to see who's liked it.
When you use "like" does the person who liked you remain anonymous now?
ReplyDeleteIt does at the moment.
ReplyDeleteWill that change in future or remain as it is?
ReplyDeleteWill it remain like that in future too?
ReplyDeleteWe'll be collecting all the feedback and passing it onto Disqus. We can';t make any promises about what features will be added/removed. At the end of the day it's their product so we can only help influence them with any changes we feel would be good for our readers.
ReplyDeleteThanks.
ReplyDeleteVery cool. Looks a lot neater :)
ReplyDeleteOne way I see to help with that is the new "parent" button after the time stamp on every reply.
ReplyDelete. If you click on that it will show you the original post being replied to.
Yep, that is very true. Good point.
ReplyDeleteThanks Joshua!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
ReplyDeleteOops, I left some feedback about the comments and Badgeville once or twice. I just hadn't read this yet. Still, I'm glad you're working things out, and I'm enjoying the new look!
ReplyDeleteHa no worries :)
ReplyDeleteI was just getting used to the old one since I never used to really comment until more recently. I was surprised to see one of my comments in the examples too. Now everyone knows that I hate the pizza man scene in Caged Heat from Supernatural. :P
ReplyDeleteHa lol :)
ReplyDeleteIt does look a lot prettier and the short loading time is fantastic but I find it a little bit harder to read than the old version although maybe it just takes a little getting used to.
ReplyDeleteYup. Flickr support already works with embedded links in the meantime, too.
ReplyDeleteFor example: http://www.flickr.com/photos/35699504@N00/5554024896/

Thanks for the feedback Poppy.
ReplyDeleteHey Tyler, thanks for stopping by and thanks for the info.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update.
ReplyDeleteSo my only question is how we can post photos? Is there still an uploading option somewhere that I missed, or do we need to get an IMG link????
ReplyDeleteOh that was my question! Ok then disregard my last post. I will just hang tight.
ReplyDeleteIt just works really really really well!
ReplyDeleteYep, for now just upload any image to something like imgur or tinypic or imageshack then paste the direct link to the image into the comment and disqus will display it. Hopefully when they add image uploading it will bypass these extra steps.
ReplyDeleteHa cool, Glad you like it.
ReplyDeleteQuestion for ya Andy, why does our name at times appear with the @ symbol before it,and at other times it does not?
ReplyDeleteThat happens if you type the @ character and then type a persons name. That will send them a notification that they have been mentioned in a post.
ReplyDeleteeg type @ and then start typing darkufo you will then get a pick list of people to select.
So for you here is what it looks like laura3341

What I am not liking is when I make a comment and click on "post as rehabber" it just stays there, if I click again, it says I have already made that comment, but if I do a refresh, it does not show up. Yes it finally does, but it used to show up right then. I am using FF12.0, am going to try it on chrome and see if it works different.
ReplyDeleteOK, tried it in chrome and it worked perfectly.
ReplyDeleteHmm, that's odd. Let us know if you get the same problem with Chrome.
ReplyDeleteAh cool. Do you have any Addons in Firefox? One of those might be causing an issue.
ReplyDeleteI saw that a few weeks ago with the older version of Disqus, and i thought it was info needed on your end..cool stuff they have going on!Thanks :)
ReplyDeleteI do have some addons, the odd thing is sometimes it works correctly in FF. I will just try and remember to use chrome. I am having so much fun with the SPN polls, Dahne needs a raise. lol
ReplyDeleteHa cool. I'll pass on the Firefox feedback to Disqus.
ReplyDeleteYes, he is very underpaid !
Well its certainly faster, but its a WHOLE LOT MORE disorienting than previous one and I personally am having a very hard time noticing on where some comments begin and end.
ReplyDeleteAlso Opera seems to really not like it for some reason, making the comments section go all weird from time to time.
I noticed a glitch today. Everytime I leave and come back here on My Disqus it says I have so many new replies but it's always the same ones as before. There aren't any new messages like it says.
ReplyDeleteYep, Opera is not really supported very well currently. I've created a support Ticket with Disqus Support so hopefully it's something they will be able to fix shortly.
ReplyDeleteI suggest for now using Chrome or Firefox.
Hey Emily Thanks for that. Can you let me know what browser you are using? I'll pass it onto Disqus Support
ReplyDeleteI use Internet Explorer. Thanks DarkUFO.
ReplyDeleteThanks, one more question.
ReplyDeleteWhen you click on the "My Disqus" does the Notification Number disappear after a few seconds? or does the number remain the same?
When I click on the number it disappears but when I go to another page it reappears again.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. I prefered the old ways of "liking" instead of "voting" up and down. I also find downvoting too negative for the peacekeeping of a friendly site such as Spoilertv.
ReplyDeleteI also dislike (very much) the anonymity of the voting. It was much better when one could see who liked what.
What I also dislike is the lack of that little "description" next to the avatar. I think it said a bit about who was commenting and was important.
Also a negative point.
ReplyDeleteHaha. Nice method!
ReplyDeleteWhat is badgeville?
ReplyDeleteThanks Emily, nice one. I'll pass this on. :)
ReplyDeleteIt had been bothering me for a while (as all changes do at first), but it is much faster and efficient.
ReplyDeleteNegative aspects IMO:
- lack of the little "description" next to the avatar, which used to tell us a bit about who was commenting. Now it only shows when you either put your mouse over the avatar (with just a bit of text being shown) or click on it;
- down-voting;
- anonymity at up-voting ("liking" was better)
Yep, we've passed that onto Disqus as well ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks again DarkUFO! :)
ReplyDeleteCathy, if you "hover" your mouse over a persons icon you should see the same info as before plus a little more.
ReplyDeleteHa! I refined my method, now i wink at the end of the post, like this.... ;)
ReplyDeleteHow ya doing? I feel like i'm always missing you lately!
It seems that a few people have voiced similar concerns and I'm sure DarkUFO has passed those concerns along to the Disqus people. If we're lucky, maybe they can figure something out.
ReplyDeleteDid you ever find out what Badgeville means? Let me know i'll tell you if you didn't.
ReplyDeleteI'm generally good with the new system. I like the My Disqus feature. It took me a couple of minutes to spot the 'reply' button because the text was like but that was quick to get used to.
ReplyDeleteThe only problem I'm having is that the indentation of replies has made it difficult for me to read and follow threads.
Cathy if you hover over a persons icon you should see their profile/hover card. This has the same info as before along with some extra info.
ReplyDeleteQuestion:
ReplyDeleteAre we still accumulating Badgeville show points while the system is being integrated with the new Disqus?
Not for comments currently. There is a problem currently with Disqus. We're working with their developers on this.
ReplyDeleteAll other activities like G+, Like, Tweets, Votes etc should all still work
Follow-up: I don't know if any changes have been made but today...the layout is much much easier on my eyes.
ReplyDeleteI do have a feature request....and since we're talking about the disqus system is there someone there I should direct it to?
ReplyDeleteI notice that they've switched to the 'More Articles' button from the (for me, much more useful page buttons of the previous version.) I've checked my comment log at the disqus site and I really really dislike that button. As a new feature/option what I would love an option to set the number of articles to display by default.
I'm not sure what this "More Articles" button is? do you mean comments?
ReplyDeleteBest place to contact Disqus directly is via this form
http://disqus.com/support/
Sorry. My typos. I was referring to the "Load more Comments" button.
ReplyDeleteAh cool, yep that's a standard disqus feature. The only control we have is how many comments are displayed before the button appears
ReplyDeleteNo, but I'll be MIA for the next couple of months due to some work, so I'll leave it to september to find out, but thanks!!!
ReplyDeleteAw, that’s very
ReplyDeletesweet even though I don’t know the song :(
I won’t be
completely gone, if I find a little bit of time I’ll surely drop by, but in
case I don’t I’d like to also wish you a marvelous summer!!
Ha! Wish i could remember what group sings it,when my husband gets up i'll ask him and let you know.I believe its from the late 60's early 70's,was a great summer song, many kids in "love" would sing it to there girl/boy friends before school ended or when they were heading off to camp! You reminded me of it by saying you wouldn't be back till Sept. Its funny what pops into ones head at times! :D
ReplyDeleteThanks!
ReplyDeleteDoing fine, gonna be away for a while as you know. BTW, how's your back? Better?
ReplyDeleteCool! ;)
ReplyDeleteOh no don't sat that's so :( September! :0
ReplyDeleteSee you in September
See you when the summers through
Here we are, saying goodbye at the station
summers vacation,is taking you away
I don't know if you remember that song or even heard of it,very popular way back when..i don't think you would know way back yet,ha! Well anyway i hope you have a very good summer, and i'll see you when i see you! :)
Drop an hello if you get the time!
Agreed re: voting down! Glad to see an eye is being kept on that.
ReplyDeleteWhere dd you get that photo from? :)
ReplyDeleteThey said that it was coming THIS WEEK.
ReplyDeleteYou can also just use any link that refers to a jpg, png, etc.
ReplyDeleteAt least he is known now. You could be discovered if people are image searching :).
ReplyDeleteA look at a person's activity via the dashboard/old style profile popup is the only option for now.
ReplyDeleteYou are talking about pagination. By default in Disqus 2012 right now, it is always set in append more comments (Load More Comments) mode, instead of having actual pages right now.
ReplyDeleteCC: DarkUFO
Opera support has been improved but it is still not the best experience compared to Webkit/Gecko browsers, and even Internet Explorer.
ReplyDeleteOpera support has been improved.
ReplyDeleteThere is a display bug with Firefox/Gecko browsers. To prevent a person posting 10 + of the same comment, Disqus now has a catcher so that the same comment will not be posted within a 5 minute timeout. This is in use while the bug is being corrected (hopefully).
ReplyDeleteCC: Daniel Ha
Media upload support is supposed to be coming this week, so in the mean time if you post a link of a image, Disqus will display a thumbnail image when you refresh the embed.
ReplyDeleteHi., We are see your post.It was Nice informations to see. Thanks for sharing the awesome informations.
ReplyDelete
