That's Interesting. Especially how many downloads of game of thrones there were compared to us viewers. I wonder how they know how many have been downloaded.
And good on supernatural for making it into the top ten. Part of that is me! If ony Australian tv wasn't so far behind

  2. Well they ONLY count TORRENT, there are many filehosting service sites that offer the shows, so you should change the title

  3. A lot of countries are at least two years behind on Supernatural.  I have a story I am doing on Fanfiction.net in which Castiel has always been with Dean as his guardian, but Dean didn't know.  A large number of my followers are either one or two years behind.   It's difficult but I can't blame anyone for it.

  4. I am excited that Supernatural made it to top ten.  It shows the fandom is more widespread then those who don't watch or even try to watch the show would even guess.

  5. I am surprised to see Revenge and Family Guy make the list.

  6. That's interesting that HOUSE didn't make it up to number one. You'd think everyone would be watching since it was announced the show has been canceled

  7. If you consider that Game of Thrones only has 10 episodes that account for that 3.9 million downloads it is even more impressive. Every other series above 2 million has 20+ episodes contributing to total number of downloads.

HBO should find a way to make HBO Go an option for non-subscribers. I bet they would clean up.

  8. They really would but apparently they dismissed the idea again last week, they are convinced their way works and well I guess they must be making enough money to continue doing it like that.

  9. GOT is no surprise I don't think the long wait for the DVD boxsets help either if they could get them out quicker then people might wait but of course it takes time to put together all the great extras and commentaries.

  10. Wow!  Supernatural almost doubles itself.  I know I spent many a Friday chatting with people around the world who were waiting for the episode to download or watching it on live stream.

  12. I was in Australia a few years ago and managed to catch Supernatural on TV.  I thought they were in re-runs at first.  It would be very frustrating to me to have to wait for years for a country to air my favorite show, especially if I knew other episodes had already aired elsewhere.  I'm not that patient.  They really do need to come up with a way to show things somewhat simultaneously.  At least within a few days of each other.

  13. I hope that the networks decide to do simultaneous or close to simultaneous distribution across the world.  I know it doesn't fit with their "model" right now but they are missing out on revenue from other sources.  Like it or not, the World Wide Web is world wide and people don't want to wait for shows they care about.  BBCA figured this out with Doctor Who.  Other networks need to start thinking this way.

  14. GoT, HIMYM, TBBT is not surprise for me............Family Guy is a surprise (I love this comedy)......DH is because of the final season.

  15. Yes, I admit it, I've downloaded Supernatural. But here in France we only have the five first seasons on Friday, at 1:00am (T.T) so what did you expect? XD I need more! (O.O)

It's been a lot better recently, for season seven but there was a time where it was just taken off tv altogether. Around te time of season four or half way through five. I think that was the point where I moved to downloading, I just couldn't beat to know an episode was out and to not have watched it. I'm in Israel now though and surprisingly they are only a few episodes behind.

  17. I'm not surprised by GOT,but i am about some of the others.

  18. I thought that only in my country (Lithuania) television decide that best time for  Supernatural is at ~1.00 am, wednesday ( thursday, depends what hour for you is when thursday replace wenesday), when most of people on thursday has to wake up 7 - 8 am. Not enough that show airing that late, we only have first 4 season and voice who is speaking in my language is awful. But when television decides do re-runs i always watching ( airing in better time and usually airing all season they have showed ).

  19. I have only watched pirated versions of Supernatural episodes so far. All the 149 episodes were downloaded illegally via torrents by me. And on the top of it, I remember giving the copies of episodes to more than 10 friends of mine, and can't really imagine, how many more people, my friends would have given to. It's like 2-3 persons download and copies are circulated among our college mates. This happens for almost every show not just Supernatural. Supernatural is a very popular show as far as this illegal circulation is concerned.

The main reason, as you mentioned above, we have to download the episodes illegally is, it is aired here years after its first airing.

I don't really understand, why can't these networks air the episodes simultaneously in other countries and get the benefit out of it, in stead of losing the money to torrents. They can air in European countries and Australia, where spending capacities of people are high and the operators are also ready to buy the show, unlike in a country like ours, where interest in English language shows is relatively less and spending capacities are not that great.

Also, glad that Supernatural is in top ten. Would like to know if the data is from entire globe or just U.S.A.?

  20. Here in Greece too they have scheduled  SPN at 1 in the morning so no you are not alone! They have only shown the first five seasons so far. At least they usually air the episodes every night during the summer!

  21. pirate happens because not eveyone have money to pay a cable tv and be updated of its beloved shows. =)

    ReplyDelete
  22. That's one of the reasons.

I work and I would gladly pay for a legal download but it isn't available in my country.

My reason is that I prefer my shows with the originals actors voice and no advertising cut. In my country, everything is dubbed in french :-/

Also, I like to watch a show as soon as it is broadcast because spoilers, promos, online exchanges and general squeeing with others fans are part of the fun :-)

Worldwild simultaneous diffusion is the future. The sooner TPTB understand that, the better

    ReplyDelete
  23. So, when will TPTB decide to use those ratings to measure the success of a show  instead of the prehistorical Nielsen ones?  :-D

  24. Crazy! And wow, I watch 7 of the 10.

    ReplyDelete
  25.  That and DVD's are just not really applicable. Digital files on a external hard drive is much more suitable...but not for $49.99. If they cut it down to like 20$ or less for relatively small digital files, I would certainly by them!

Yeah, here in Belgium they did the same thing, airing it at 1 in the morning. And then they switched it to another network without warning. And they stopped at season four. So yeah, I started downloading.

  27. i´m suprised TVD is not in it .. i know a lot of people who prefer to watch it in english because german dubbing sucks

Oh completely agree. I have to admit that at least with Supernatural they are pretty consistent here. A couple of seasons I think S1, S6, and S7  started airing in January of the same season so it wasn't so bad especially with all the haituses in the actual US season. The rest started airing in July-August of the same season so it wasn't a very long wait.

Although it just kills me when I have a favorite show online but I don't get it on my TV (i.e. Community which does air here but a different TV company has the rights to air it and sadly I'm not a client of that company...)

Not really surprised by the shows on the list but I am surprised by the number of people downloading GOT, than again I really should not be as I almost everyone I know torrent it....

    ReplyDelete
  30. Most of those people don't live in the USA, Canada, but really want to watch the show and not wait a year or two!

    ReplyDelete
  31. No, they have showed all seven seasons. But after a point it wasn't at 1:00 a.m., it was at 1:30... Such a shame... showing the very last season thta had just ended in the U.S. that late...
And... guilty of downloading too. If I waited for a Greek network to show it...
