I would be stoked if this became about Fis' past but the interview with Gabrielle Anwar basically nixed that theory. I agree that Anson doesn't gain anything by killing Fi. He's already lost for all intents and purposes. He can't get Michael to do his bidding anymore. The only reason Anson would have for bringing Fi in the mix would be to keep her from testifying about him or because he's a wacked out loony throwing a temper tantrum because he lost. Both are possible but neither are interesting.
Ha! More likely an even more focused Michael who will do absolutely anything to force the CIA to release her. They are going to need him big time and my bet is that his price is Fi's freedom.
I like her myself and I probably wouldn't mind the back story if it were better timing. It is too early in the save Fi plot to go on side tangents like a dead love of a secondary character. If this were season 5 and its relatively anemic plot line I would say sure.
I have to agree with you. They've been setting up a really strong solid pace and they have Michael going off the tracks. Knowing that Fi's life is in danger and that the con's sisters life is in trouble seems like it would set up a much more natural flow to the storyline progression so far.
Even if they couldn't figure out who wanted Fi dead Michael could get the sister somewhere safe and cause enough problems for whoever wants her dead that they'd decide that killing the sister isn't worth it. They could then use the con as a friend to Fi inside and the fact that Michael doesn't know who might go after her next in prison as a way to drive him even more over the edge.
We've always seen Michael in control, so I think that they need to find more ways to push him over the edge (personally I've enjoyed watching it so far). Maybe they'll do that with the Pearce dead love storyline, but I think at the very least it should have been pushed to an episode later given last night's reveal with Fi.
I'm good with a Pierce centric episode. I'm feeling better about this season. In the last couple I've felt like the 'keep Michael from getting his job back' plots have been kind of stretched. I was really annoyed when whatshisface escaped on the boat. But the help Fi angle is working for me and I'd much rather get a Pierce ep than another, previously unseen, connection of Michael's at the CIA.
That's where I thought they were going to go. I don't have a problem with Fi being the B-story for a few episodes. At least it's a character we care about and a secondary plot with substance.
It's too soon for me. Last year Burn Notice stalled. Neither the action nor the plot were as intense as usual and I found my attention wavering a lot. Now we've got a Burn Notice on track and maybe better than ever. To risk that momentum on a side story worries me. It's all about timing. For me this has the potential of becoming like Supernatural. The first two episodes of the season rocked and everyone was really excited. Then they derailed with the Amy subplot in the third and it took awhile to get the momentum back. Why mess with the pace when you've got a good thing going?
Intense Michael is turning out to be my favorite and the pace of the show is phenomenal right now as you said. I would hate to see them sidetrack when everything is going so well this season. I can't imagine Michael will take the news that someone has targeted Fi very well, especially when she's somewhere he can't protect her. (Not that Fi is some damsel in distress that needs looking after.) I'd think getting more details from the inmate and protecting her sister would be a huge priority. Not just for Michael but for the story itself.
I'm looking forward to this episode and I don't think they will get side-tracked if they do a Pearce episode. Frankly I like her much better than the Tom Card character. I think Tom could be up to something as far as getting Fiona killed. (He did say as Michael said, "You said she would ruin my life." This episode will be really good I think and I really think we're in a for a great season this year. Give it a chance. I want to see it renewed for another season or two.
Agree with you completely about last season. It took me about 6 months to get around to watching the last 4 eps.
I hope that Fi isn't going to be in prison for the entire season, but from a practical stand point they have to give her the screen time. She's a regular top tier character. They have to give her the screen time. I knew that coming into the season and was worried she'd be wandering around pining. I think giving her a mystery to solve on her own is much better than restricting her to Michael's visiting day scenes.
I had some lag time in between watching episodes too. My biggest worry was that they were going to sideline Fi this season since she's my favorite character. Having someone trying to kill her makes for a much better plot than she has to fight the prison clique. According to spoilers, Fi's only going to be in prison for a few more episodes so I think this subplot will remain interesting that long.
Lol I think that Fi would knock Michael (or anyone else for that matter, but especially Michael) upside the head hard if he ever called her a damsel in distress.
I'd say if they keep up the momentum that they've had so far and keep Michael as intense as he's been, this will probably shape up to be favorite season thus far. It's actually interesting because I've been going back and re-watching Burn Notice from the beginning (I have a lot of time on my hands right now due to health issues and Burn Notice has been a perfect time filler/distraction). Anyway it's interesting because I really think that it took 5+ seasons to get to this point with Michael.
I don't think that Michael would have been this intense about Fi at an earlier point in the series. I think that he really had to stay home and deal with the burn notice (and thus realize throughout the events of getting unburned that there were more important things than being a spy). If she had been incarcerated earlier I think that we would have seen him try to get her free, but I doubt that we would see him losing control like he is (flipping over tables, shooting at civilians, etc).
So I really hope that they keep pushing him over the edge. I actually want to see how far they're willing to take it and how much control he loses over himself because it makes sense at this point in the series and it's fun to watch such a stark contrast in Michael's personality.
I completely agree. At the beginning I was afraid Michael would trade Fi for getting his job back. Well maybe not quite that far. Michael and Fiona may be the most complicated TV couple not on a daytime soap. Without getting what he wanted, Michael wouldn't have known what he needed. There were shades of this Michael before - screaming for her season 1 when he thought she was in the fire, killing Tom Strickler. However those were when she was in danger of dying. Now he knows how much her every day presence means to him and I too love how we are seeing his most desperate side. I'm more excited about Burn Notice right now than I have been in years.
I don't know how to post, but this scene is a major spoiler for Thursday's ep. Do not watch if you want to be surprised. http://insidetv.ew.com/2012/06/26/burn-notice-michael-fiona-reunite-in-prison-exclusive-video/

Not a huge fan of Pearce, but it still looks like it will be a good episode.
ReplyDeleteI don't care one jot about Pearce's dead love. I want to know who is after Fi. Surely Michael needs to help the other con's sister.
ReplyDeleteif michael finds out that fi is in danger we may have a prison break situation, lol
ReplyDeleteI like Pierce myself and look forward for a little background on her. I do like that Fi's situation isn't going to be an easy discovery...
ReplyDeleteWhat if its Fi's Irish family that wanted to take her back but she kicked their ass back to Ireland lol.
ReplyDeleteI doubt Ansan wants Fi dead what possible gain he get if he killed her?
