There are so many period shows right now. I really don't recall this ever being so common.
I can list off the top of my head: GoT (not exactly "period", but the same style); Spartacus; Copper; Hell on Wheels;Downton Abbey; Boardwalk Empire; The Borgias...Am I mistaken or this seems to be a tendency?
It was a Canadian/ German co-production between STARZ and one of the Canadian production companies.... I forget. Maybe The Movie Network? It aired on Starz in the US and whatever Canadian network co-produced it in Canada.
I'm not sure who produces or co-produces World Without End though... I think it was a different group.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

Well, World Without End is a follow-up to Pillars of the Earth...
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to this and hope it can match the brilliance of Pillars of the Earth (even if it paled compared to the books). XD
ReplyDeleteAgreed. The show had nothing on the book, but the casting and the production...it was all incredible. :)
ReplyDeletewasn't pillars of the earth produced by STARZ?

Thanks for explaining!
ReplyDeleteYour point still stands. There is quite a lot of large scale period shows going on. :) I just wanted to point that out.
ReplyDeleteIt was Ridley Scott for both POTE and WWE, but I think Showcase picked up the project while Starz decided not to, I suppose.
ReplyDeleteoh ok. If it's the same guys behind both projects then good.
