Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries and 90210 all Renewed

3 May 2012

Excellent news for fans of those hot bloodsuckers on the CW: The network has picked up a fourth season of The Vampire Diaries.

The CW also gave a thumbs-up to an eighth season of Supernatural and a fifth year of 90210. The network has already picked up another installment of America’s Next Top Model.

No word yet on the future of some of CW’s other shows, like Gossip Girl, Ringer, or Nikita. The CW will present its fall lineup to advertisers later this month in New York.

  1.  That 90210 renewal is one less spot for the other bubble shows like Nikita, TSC, and Hart of Dixie.  HoD has the best chance of the three though.

  2. Cool for TVD, don't give a single damn about 90210. I'm waiting on The Secret Circle and Nikita. More Nikita than TSC, but I don't want either canceled.

  3. Yay for tvd,i'm hoping for good news about nikita.

  4. Whats the betting everything else is left up in the air till up-fronts?

No surprises SPN, TVD and 90210 were renewed.

Still going with Ringer, Nikita cancelled. TSC and HOD could go either way depends on how many new shows are picked up. GG? No clue.

It's a safe bet these will be the only CW renewals announced until the upfronts.  My gut tells me that GG will get its 13 episode swan song and Hart of Dixie will get a second chance while everything else will be thrown on the scrap heap.

  6. Why 90210?! RENEW TSC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great for VD!!

  7. Can't believe they renewed 90210, guess Ringer is a goner... Hope HoD gets renewed, it reminds me of Gilmore Girls (not because it is the same set), that small town feeling of everyone knowing everyone.. Tom Long being Kirk.. and Lavon Hayes being a lot less annoying Taylor Doose (yep still miss that show after 5 years!!)

  8. Can't say I'm surprised but I'm excited for next season already ^___^

  9. Not invested in either of these, but neither comes as a surprise.
However I am a little sad over what the 90210 renewal means for the bubble shows....

    PRESS RELEASE

  11. 90210's renewal makes complete sense ratings-wise, whether you might like it or not... it performed much better than Nikita or Ringer ever did.

  12. Great for VD. Don't care about 90210
But I really need Nikita renewal now!

  13. I don't think cancellations will be officially announced. Either the left over shows will be on the fall schedule come May 18th or they wont be. GG I think will be back. Nikita, Ringer cancelled. TSC and HOD could go either way. If Deadline and other speculators are right then its going to be a bloodbath and none of the freshman shows or Nikita will be back. I wouldn't be surprised given how much enthusiasm there has been for the pilots this season. CW need to do something drastic and smart to turn the net around fast.

  14. I wonder if the 90210 renewal is the death bell for Hart of Dixie....
I always assumed Ringer was dead with Nikita and HoD having outside shots at best to get renewed. Although I do not not pretend to comprehend the CW renewal logic....

  15. YAY SUPERNATURAL!!! Now all I need is NIKITA to get a 3rd and then that's three of my shows renwed!

  17. My thinking was that GG will get its own press release because it'll be announced as the last season and/or they'll be announcing the new showrunner.

HOD seems like the safest bet at this point. Everything I just cant see them renewing.

  18. I guess it makes a small amount of sense to renew 90210. Syndication purposes, perhaps? I imagine it'd be worth more than a new bubble show.

    ReplyDelete
  19. 90210? really? i haven't watched that show since october, did it get better or something?
Really hope they renew Nikita & Secret Circle

    ReplyDelete
  20. Not surprised about Supernatural and Vampire Diaries getting renewed. those are the only two CW shows i actually watch.

    ReplyDelete
  21. If you guys really want Nikita renewed, than watch it live, and get as many people as possible to watch it

    ReplyDelete
  22. yes and its also one of the cheapest shows in terms of production costs, makes the network more money in DVD sales, Netflix deals etc. The more episodes they produce the more money they make from syndication. TSC, Nikita, HOD, Ringer are all extremely unlikely to make it anywhere close to syndication.

Besides 90210 actually has pretty steady ratings.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Stupid 90210. I don't think it should've gotten renewed. I want Secret Circle and Nikita to get renewed

    ReplyDelete
  24. Nikita is lower rated than 90210 so no way does it deserve a renewal over 90210. TSC is fading fast so who knows what will happen there. It'll have a btter chance if the ratings actually go back up for these last two episodes, then it just comes down how much space there is left on the schedule.

  25. YAY for SPN and TVD! I really need them to renew NIKITA now!

    ReplyDelete
  26. not much. 90210 hasn't been considered competition for the bubble shows for a while now. Its always been just ahead of the pack. It was going to be renewed regardless of how the bubble shows rated.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Eww 90210. Used to watch that and so glad I stopped, why renew that?? Very happy for SPN and TVD of course but Nikita needs to be on that list!

    ReplyDelete
  28. not counting GG it is unlikely there will be any more official renewals until May 18th.

    ReplyDelete
  29. What's surprising Is no early renewal for Gossip Girl here.

Like I have siad the CW will not premiere a new show on firday so Nikita has chances of coming back.

90210 onlly does better than Nikita In the demo.Among total viewers nikita has been doing better recently.

    ReplyDelete
  30. 90210 0.6's to Nikita's 0.4's. 90210 has been doing better than Nikita all season long. % wise 90210 is quite a bit ahead of Nikita in the all important demos.

    TOTAL VIEWERS DONT MEAN ANYTHING

  31. Not a surprise, but such a relief to have it officially confirmed!! So happy the Winchesters will grace my TV screen for another season!! Now I can watch the last 3 episodes of season 7 without worry -- well, I always worry... those poor boys never get a break. :)

Oh my god, please renew Ringer. It is one of my favorite new shows. Absolutely amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I was expecting that along with the announce of renovation for supernatural they would announce too that it would the show's final season, the show is totally over, there's nothing else to say, they can cut 10 more producers' heads, and yet, the show wont get better numbers.

  35. That's great Supernatural and TVD will be back next year

    ReplyDelete
  36. Wonderful news for Supernatural. They deserve it. Now on to 10 seasons!

    ReplyDelete
  37. No surprise with this announcement.  These are the three shows that were shoe-ins.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Im so happy your expectations were wrong, stop watching if you don't like it anymore.

  41. REPLYING TO MYSELF TO ADD
Since the entry was edited let me rephrase: As a loyal-long term fan, I'm very happy SPN got a renewal, yet I'm not invested in either TVD or 90210.
However NONE come as a surprise. ;D
However I am a little sad over what the 90210 renewal means for the bubble shows....

    ReplyDelete
  42. IMO it hasn't gotten better, but for some reason I personally can't understand it really holds up in the ratings...

    ReplyDelete
  43. Well a little cause it's the same set....

    ReplyDelete
  44.  Not suprised. I'm more interested in the other shows...

    YAY TVD!!!! =D

    ReplyDelete
  46. Don't worry, I and around 1.5 million people already did that.

    ReplyDelete
  47. YES YES YES! I'm celebrating!
8th season of Supernatural - who would have thought? Starting with season 5 I always think: "This is probably the last season of Supernatural, but who knows... Maybe it'll be renewed for a 6/7/8 season..." And it is renewed!
Also glad the Vampire Diaries are renewed, I saw it coming, but it's still nice to know for sure.

  48. Very Happy for 90210 !! YAYY
