Supernatural - Ultimate Episode Contest - Wildcard Poll #2 - Polls

31 May 2012

Day 1 for our wild card race ended with no surprises. The ranking episodes won each time. Heading to the contest are Everybody Loves a Clown, The Rapture, Dead in the Water, Salvation, 99 Problems, and Of Grave Importance. Everybody Loves a Clown trounced Bugs. The only one that was close was Of Grave Importance vs The Magnificent Seven. Magnificent 7 might qualify for one of the last 3 spots with 44.81% of the vote.

Today we have 12 more episodes competing for a spot in the Ultimate Episode Contest. It's the only time in the wild card race where I will have a hard time because I really like both episodes. Here's hoping voting is easier for you. As always voting lasts until 11:00 pm St. Louis (CST) time. One vote per IP address. Also don't forget to nominate your favorite quotes for Salvation and Devil's Trap.

People have been asking about how episodes were ranked. During the winter hiatus, we had a series of ranking polls for each episode. Episodes were in batches of 6 and people could vote for 3 of the 6. Then I put the percentage of votes each episode received into a spreadsheet. Below are links for the list of ranked episodes complete with what season they are from, a bracket diagram you can print out if you would like to keep track that way (it's the easiest way), and a page that shows results of the contest so far. There's also a link to all the season 1 quote nomination forms in case you missed nominating for an episode. Hopefully this will make things easy for you and still not clutter up the pages as we get going in this contest. If you have questions or suggestions, please leave them in the comments below.

  1. Metamorphsis only because I hated Real Ghostbusters, Wendigo and Roadkill I both liked, but I gave Roadkill a vote just because I had a feeling it would be less popular. No Exit definitely beats Swap Meat, Swap Meat is probably the one episode I want to erase from my mind the most. Are You There God beats Sin City-loved the ghost face off in Bobby's house and the panic room and the word idjit is used for first time! Houses Of The Holy beats The Children Are Our Future. Liked the total shock of the guy getting the pole through his chest, Sam's unicorn quote XD, and Knockin on Heaven's door song- the Priests, first mention of angels, Michael. Lastly, I liked Shut Up Doctor Phil over Time Is On My Side. TIOMS totally made me sick-only part I really liked was Rufus. SUDP had some good scenes.

  2. A few good quotes I like, which you captured here in your list! I've been slack about actually taking down quotes but now that the quotes polls are caught up to my viewing schedule (s2 e1) I can be timely.

  3. My votes:

    1.  No vote - I can't stand either of these episodes.  Both are on my worst of SPN list.
    2.  Wendigo - This is the first one I really thought about since I like both episodes.  In fact, I would pick these two over a vast majority of the other wildcard episodes.  In the end I chose Wendigo because I really loved all the fabulous snark and Hailey Collins was a great PiP.
    3.  No Exit - mostly because I LOATHE Swap Meat.  I think it's a terrible episode.  At least No Exit had an interesting case of the week and it was genuinely scary at times.
    4.  No vote yet - This is by far the hardest match up for me.  Both of these are a lot of fun.  I loved seeing Hendrickson, Ronald Resnik, and Meg 1.0 back in AYTG? IM,DW (not the freakishly long title though) but Casey is still one of my favorite demons.  I'll have to rewatch both before I vote.  I really, really hope both episodes can make it in.
    5.  Houses of the Holy - I never thought I'd vote for this utterly forgettable episode (except for the "hooker from God"  and "Christmas decorations" snark) but I think Jesse was a bigger mistake than Adam.  The I Believe.... episode is best forgotten by every writer and producer in SPN.  The last thing we need is some all-powerful kid to come back.  The angels were bad enough.
    6.  Shut Up Dr. Phil - I loved the guest stars and thought the case of the week was interesting.  The ending really sucked except that it brought Mensa Monster back with his snarky wit.  Mostly though I will not forgive TiomS for being yet another episode that wasted my time after the writer's strike.  Dean was going to hell.  Couldn't at least 2 of the 4 episodes be focused directly on that instead of creepy Dr. Frankenstein Lite and Bella's issues.  I mean I even liked Bella, but I think Dean going to hell deserved more.  The only positive was Rufus, who always rocks.

  4. Metamorphosis - I chose this over The Real Ghostbusters because even though I really hate the ruguru (sp?) as a monster, I thought the parallels with Sam's journey to be interesting. I also thought the confrontation between Sam and Dean at the beginning to be pretty damn intense. As an examination of how far apart the brothers are, this one is pretty devastating. And as much as I enjoyed The Real Ghostbusters (cause I did! Chuck!), I am more likely to watch Metamorphosis if made to choose.

Wendigo - As a wildlife biologist and a Coloradan I bristle at the grizzly bear stuff in the beginning (hey, we all have our nitpicks!) but overall I really like this episode. It's very clear Jared and Jensen are still finding Sam and Dean, but it's also pretty clear that they had a strong grasp of the characters from the start. I also find the whole episode more interesting than Roadkill - which isn't bad, just kind of dull.

No Exit - I despise almost everything about Swap Meat. It utilizes one of the tropes I hate most in this world, which is body switching of characters. Bonus! I actually like No Exit! I like that we get to know Jo as a character, and I like that the Jo and Dean "romance" never took off because I think Jo works best as a "sister-type". I also like that she's not some super-human hunting machine and actually allows herself to feel fear for a moment, while trapped. Also? Ellen at the end, in the car, is hilarious.

Are You There God? It's Me, Dean Winchester - Dean and his low self-esteem, doubt, and questioning personality. This one just barely edges out Sin City because...Henrickson! Meg! But Sin City is pretty good, too.

Houses of the Holy - The first mention of angels in the SPN-verse. This episode contains one of my favorite Dean moments, when he confesses to Sam in the church how he doesn't believe in angels because of what happened to Mary. It's very sad, and one of the few times he lets his guard down around his little bro. I like it when Dean does that.

Time is on My Side - Automatically anything is better than Shut Up, Dr. Phil which was one of the very worst episodes in season 7, and EVER. However Time is on My Side would win anyway because this is when we meet Captain Fuller! Uh...I mean Rufus! ;)

  6. I'm going to enjoy the stroll down season 2.  So many great episodes and lots of great quotes.

  7. Agreed on all of your votes except for Sin City.  I will probably vote for it for the same reason you voted for Roadkill.  I love both episodes and Sin City needs the votes.

  8. Ha!  Definitely harder than yesterday's choices.  Unfortunately I think it's going to only get harder from here on out.  The first 2 rounds of the Ultimate Episode Contest will probably be easier too but then it will be hair pulling time.

  9. I think besides the gross factor, the reason I can't vote for Metamorphosis is the focus on the rift between Dean and Sam.  The demon blood addiction plot was worse for me than the Apocalypse.  It was the beginning of the end of the brother relationship that drew me into the show from the start.

Nitpicks are fun.  For me, it's Skin when Dean and Sam pop out of a sewer grill in St, Louis with guns drawn and all the people around just keep going about their business.  I'm from St. Louis and trust me, that would cause a huge stir.

I think the farther away from No Exit I got the better I liked it.  When it first aired, they were pushing Jo as a love interest and people weren't that thrilled with the Roadhouse either.  I wasn't a fan of Ellen, Jo, or Ash myself.  However, Ellen grew on me and the Jo in my head is awesome.  One problem I had with No Exit is another nitpick.  I had just read Devil in the White City, which was phenomenal by the way, and so I spent most of the episode saying "that's not true" when they talked about Holmes.  I would highly recommend Devil in White City to everyone.  It's nonfiction so I thought it would be boring, but it did a great job of combining the pomp of the Chicago World's Fair with the shock of America's first serial killer.  There's nothing too graphic in the book either which I was concerned about.  It may become a DiCaprio movie so I hope people read it beforehand.

I'm curious about why you hated Shut Up Dr. Phil.  It's not going to be one of my favorites but I thought it was decent except the ending.

  10. Finally done with finals, so I have time to post! (at least until I get my summer job(s) at least....

I have to go with The Real Ghostbusters.... I just love the meta.... I think it's brilliantly done, managing to let the boys meet their fans without being unbelievable. On other shows meta episodes end up jarring me out of the 'world' of the show (ie Stargate), the Supernatural writers are by far the best I've seen at believable, cannon, meta.

Because this is Supernatural, I can't say I don't like any of the episodes, so it's a close call on which one I'll pick....I'm going with Wendigo (Great ep, second one I ever saw), Swap Meat (by a hair), Are You There God? It's Me, Dean Winchester, I Believe the Children are Our Future (Love Dean having fun.... ), and Shut Up, Dr. Phil (because I watched part of it get filmed... best experience ever!).

    ReplyDelete
  11. No Exit definitely had some scares and creepiness, something that's been missing since season 1. I wish the show would be a bit scarier again!

    ReplyDelete
  12. yeah...Metamorphosis was pretty gross. I wasn't a fan of the demon blood plot myself, but when Metamorphosis first aired we didn't know about the blood yet, or how far from "normal" Sam had traveled so I found the rift between the brothers compelling. Even now, after knowing what's to come I still find that initial argument in the hotel and Dean's punches (TWICE! He punches Sammy twice! :() to be really strong work by the J's, and "enjoyable", if that makes any sense.

Nitpicks! Now that'd be an interesting poll/survey. Not sure it could be done in the traditional sense, but I have at least a few that really, really bug me. They are fun, when they are few and far between and thankfully, for me in regards to this show, they are! It's also interesting to see what different people find to nitpick!

I've actually started reading Devil in the White City. It's too bad the show took some apparent liberties, but I am excited to get through the book. I hadn't heard about the possibility of a film, but if that's even being discussed I'll definitely make it a point to finish it sooner rather than later. Personally, I like nonfiction when it's written well, and that one is written well.

So...Shut Up, Dr. Phil. Another potential "unpopular opinion" coming...

I never watched Buffy. In High School my best friend was obsessed and loved the show, but I never watched (I've since tried thanks to Netflix but, meh. I don't particularly like Sarah Michelle Gellar). I have no nostalgic affection for either James Marsters or Charisma Carpenter and I've only ever seen Marsters on Torchwood (he was great, there). So, basically, I found them both to be pretty dull on SPN. Marsters can at least act, but I was thoroughly horrified by Charisma. I thought she was awful and cringe-worthy. I didn't believe anything she said, and I feel the episode relied too much on the "stunt casting", sacrificing some important story points. For example - Why did Dean let the witches live when just two episodes earlier he killed Amy for being a killer? I know it's likely because he didn't have the tools to kill the witches and they were too powerful, blah, blah, blah...but I remember this question being asked and debated by many a fan. It didn't bother me much, but still it could have been addressed since as it was written it made no sense in the timeline (talk about episodes that feel entirely self-contained, Girl Next Door, Defending Your Life and Shut Up, Dr Phil were so completely isolated from one another - aside from the contrivance of Amy - that it hurts to watch them). I also feel like of all the episodes this season, this one had Dean the most out of character and I HATED almost all the dialogue he had during the big confrontation/"Dr. Phil" scene. Also, the fake bees were silly and stupid. I could keep going but I don't want to bash it into the ground...

    Sorry you asked? :)

  13. Anything that goes against The Real Ghostbusters would win for me, even two frogs dancing the tango!.

TRG is my absolutely most hated episode.
It made me cringe everytime I watched it, (twice  I believe ). Only redeeming moment is at the end where Dean is told how lucky he is to be able to save the world every day and  has a brother who would die for  him ( or something to that effect!)
I always like to cast my vote, so I voted for Metamorphosis which I don't like particularly.
I find it too sad and depressing, but compared to the other it's a masterpiece!

No doubt here, for although I liked Roadkill well enough, I feel it just missed out on that little something that could have elevated it to an excellent episode.

I vote Wendigo all the way!
One of my very very favourite episodes. I loved the forest, the colours, the courage yet ingenuity of the young Winchesters. It's one of those episodes that I never tire of watching. :)

I liked No Exit but then I love detective stories and "victorian type" serial killers.
I have never had anything against Jo either, so I quite enjoyed a girl on the hunting trip for once, and Ellen was just hilarious at the end.
I quite liked Swap Meat also, and if one can get past the body swapping thing, there were some cute moments.
The young girl that was taken over by the demon was really great, but the line where in the Bar where Dean asks False Sam "when was the last time they had a beer together" was so bittersweet, denoting so clearly how the two brothers had grown apart.
Then I loved the scene in the motel room, where Dean looms in the darkness and tells the teen that he knows he's not Sam. He should have realised it sooner, I suppose, but maybe he was enjoying the company of this new care-free Sammy!
I'm debated but I'll give it to Swap Meat for I'm sure No Exit will win.

    I vote for Sin City.
It was well filmed and it really gave you the feeling of a decadent town. The girl demon Casey was marvellous. What a Ruby she would have made! I enjoyed the dialogue between her and Dean and I felt for Sammy, as he unknowingly poured out his worries to the priest demon.
In the other episode, although we got to see some old faces, Meg, Hendriksen and Ronald, the episode doesn't do much for me, too much talking in it. A bit boring.

No contest here either, voted Houses of The Holy.
Like Wendigo it's one of those episodes I could watch in repetition.
I just loved everything about it, especially the last scene with Sam hoping to be saved and Dean beginning to have doubts and  the backgroung music playing, all made even worse now that we know Sam didn't get saved . Maybe not everyone's cup of tea, but I loved it.

I vote for Time is on My Side.
Poor Sam thought that he had found a way to save Dean, but in vain.
The  scene between Dean and Rufus was great as was the one with Bela.
Everyone talks about the gore in some episodes, but the scene that I found most chilling was Sam tied down on that dirty table, eyes held open, with the horribly creepy doctor going to scoop his eyes out. Yuck.

  14. Not at all sorry I asked.  In fact, feel free to keep "bashing" as you call it.  I find your critique refreshing.  I come from the opposite situation.  I watched Buffy.  No, I obsessed over Buffy.  Buffy was my Supernatural back then.  I loved it right up until the 5th season and then watched it die a painful death.  However, I am in the minority of Buffy fans because I only liked Spike before he got chipped.  Afterwards, that character nosedived so I am a bit wishy washy about James Marsters.  I was glad he was playing a villain in SUDP because that's how I liked him best in Buffy.  Charisma Carpenter on the other hand was superb in both Buffy and Angel.  I will have to go back to the episode because it is possible that my adoration for her previous work colored my opinion of her on SPN.  She is not excellent in everything she does that's for sure.  I just got done watching her in Legend of the Seeker.

I agree that they milked the guest stars at the expense of the story.  I have some story issues but the witches getting away was never one of them.  It always baffled me why people got hung up on that point.  I wonder what people expected the Winchesters since Don depowered a Leviathan by snapping his fingers and Leviathans can take out angels.  They were obviously far more powerful than the Winchesters and it's not the first time they had to let the evil just walk away.  I mean that's how Crowley's still breathing.  (And thank goodness for that.)  I will have to rewatch also for Dean's dialogue, but while I liked the witch counseling in the first take it gets old fast.  I can see why you would have a problem with that one.  As far as Dean's character goes, I agreed that he should have killed Amy but not that he lied about it.  Basically Dean from the time he lied to Sam until the time the freaking mess of the Amy subplot was out in the open annoyed.  It is one of my least favorite Dean phases surpassed only by Fatalistic/Hopeless Dean in season 5.

I think a large part of the reason why I liked Shut Up Dr Phil so much is because it came right after Girl Next Door and Defending Your Life, two episodes I loathe. The sheer fact that there was humor in this episode was enough to elevate it for me.  Plus the cupcake scene made me laugh through the gross, which is very hard to do.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Some tough choices there... normally it's choosing between two episodes i liked, in this case it was choosing between 2 episodes I didn't!  Defintiely a poll of weaker episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Metamorphosis gets my vote.
Wendigo is a episode I  love more than Roadkill which isnt a bad episode.
Didnt vote for either No Exit or Swap Meat  dont know which one is worst.
Houses of the Holy by a country mile land it has a rare Sam pov scene where we got to know how he was feeling so it scores brownie points for that.
And Time on My Side  which is better IMO  than Shut Up Dr Phil.

    ReplyDelete
  17. The Real Ghostbusters, Wendigo, No Exit, Are You There God? It's Me, Dean Winchester, Houses of the Holy, Shut Up, Dr. Phil.

    Quotes:

    Salvation:
Dean:  "Call you.  Are you kidding me?  Dad, I called you from Lawrence.
Alright, Sam called you when I was dying.  I mean getting you on the
phone, I got a better chance at winning the lottery."
Sam:  "What the hell are you talking about Dean?  We've been searching
for this demon our whole lives. It's the only thing we've ever cared
about."  Dean:  "Sam, I want to waste it.  I do.  Okay.  But it's not worth dying over."  Sam:  "What?"  Dean:  "I mean it.  If hunting this
demon means you getting yourself killed, then I hope we never find the
    damn thing."

    Devil's Trap:

John:  "I'm surprised at you Sammy.  Why didn’t you kill it?  I thought
we saw eye to eye on this. Killing this demon comes first.  Before me,
before everything."  Sam:  "No sir.  Not before eveything."

Dean:  "Man, this sucks out loud."

  18. My votes:
The Real Ghostbusters - because Metamorphosis is terrible and TRG is actually funny at times.

Wendigo - both episodes are really good, but I believe I rewatched Wendigo many times more than Roadkill, so I kinda feel like it's closer to my heart. Also, it has the immortal "saving people, hunting things, the family business" line.

Swap Meat - I personally hate this episode, but I couldn't get myself to vote for a Jo-heavy one.

Are You There God? It's Me, Dean Winchester - I'm actually surprised it hasn't made it to the contest yet, it's an amazing episode. Definitely better than all of the others in these polls.

Houses of the Holy - because the other one was pointless. Even though I liked the kid.

Shut Up, Dr Phil - witty and entertaining and I really hate Time Is On My Side. Like I said yesterday, sad how season 3's ending episodes were so much weaker than the first half of the season.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Metamorphosis - I'm not crazy about this episodes, mainly because it was kind of disgusting, but pretty much everything trumps The Real Ghostbusters.

Wendigo - Both are great episodes and Roadkill has a very cool twist, but Wendigo had some great snarky dialogues, especially between Dean and Roy.

No Exit - Swap Meat fought hard to win the worst episode ever title, but lost in the details to All Dogs Go to Heaven. Also,No Exit was a pretty good episode.I loved Jo and Ellen!

Are You There God?It's me,Dean Winchester - I didn't wanna vote against Sin City, which was also a great episode and had Casey, one of my favorite demons till now,but I loved Are You The God...It had Henriksen,Ronald,Meg and the final scene between Dean and Cas,with the revelation about Lucifer,is one of my favorites.

I Believe the Children are Our Future - I know I'm in the minority, but I liked the episode. It had some funny moments and I liked Jesse as well.A lot of people complained that he was introduced and then completely forgotten, but I think it was a wise decision not to use him again.A kid strong enough to destroy the angels, the whole thing would be over in 5 minutes.Houses of the Holly was also good, but I don't think it'll need my help to win.

Time is on My Side - Both episodes were good, not great.Time is on My Side has a slight edge because it gave us Rufus!Shut Up,Dr.Phil was fun but I wasn't ecstatic because I'm not a Buffy fan.The guest stars were great, but not something I was looking forward to,like other people did.

    Quotes

    Salvation:
    - Dean: "Call you!Are you kidding me?Dad,I called you from Lawrence, alright.Sam called you when I was dying.I mean, getting you on the phone,I've got a better chance of winning the lottery."
    (The nerve on the man!God!)

    - John: "I'm going to kill you."
      Meg: "Oh,John,please.Mind your blood pressure."

    Devil's Trap:
    - Dean: "For your sake,I hope your lying.Cause if it's true,I swear to God I will march into hell myself, and I will slaughter each and every one of you evil sons of b******,so help me God."
(Hands down the best scene of season 1,one of the best of the whole series.)

    - John: "Killing this demon comes first. Before me,before everything."
      Sam: "No,sir.Not before everything."

Honorable mention: Dean:"Finish it!"  Meg: "What?I told you the truth!"  Dean: "I don't care."   Meg: "You son of a b*****,you promised."   Dean: "I LIED!"

  20. The Real Ghostbusters - because it was funny and actually had a good message.
Swap Meat - I really, really dont like No Exit.
Roadkill - tough choice, but this was more thought provoking.
Are you There God? - An awesome episode featuring some old faces.
Houses of the Holy - Great character insight epi.
Shut.up, Dr. Phil - it was a fun, gross episode. Ignoring Amy.

  21.

    Salvation Quotes:-

Sam:  "Dean, uh, I want to thank you."  Dean:  "For what?"  Sam:  "For
everything,.  You've always had my back you know.  Even when I couldn't
count on anyone, I could always count on you.  And uh I don't know, I
just wanted to let you know.  Just in case."    Dean:  "Whoa, whoa,
whoa.  Are you kidding me?"  Sam:  "What?"  Dean:  "Don't say just in
case something happens to you.  I don't want to hear that
    freaking
speech, man.  Nobody's dying tonight.  Not us.  Not that family.
Nobody.  Except that demon.  That evil SOB isn't getting any older than
    tonight.  You understand me."

    Beautiful :)

Dean:  "Call you.  Are you kidding me?  Dad, I called you from Lawrence.
Alright, Sam called you when I was dying.  I mean getting you on the
phone, I got a better chance at winning the lottery."

Savation for me was a very enjoyable episode. I loved the brothers working together and Dean letting Sam take the lead to try and shoot the YED, and then keeping Sam from running back into the fire.
I was sorry that Meg killed Pastor Jim and Caleb as I would have liked more info on their relationship with the Winchesters.
    Meg as always was awesome.
I thought her brother was a bit stupid, however as he never even got a line to speak. :)

    The Devil's Trap.
The Dean in the quote is the Dean I would like to see again; the Dean, that as he states here is willing to do anything  for his family; family which is now reduced only to Sam, a fact that should make him all the more determined to defend his brother!

The Dean in the second quote is the Dean I would love to see doing exactly what he says in it.
Badass Dean Winchester, defender of Sammy, please come back to us!

What a wonderful finale this was. John was eerily evil and I loved the brothers' protection of each other, and Sam's care and trust in Dean.

The Impala, the Winchesters, a ten-ton truck and an anonymous demon and we get one of the best SPN finales!
No angels, no Bobby, ghost or otherwise, no version of Castiel, no Meg, no Leviathans, no Crowley, just the essentials.; the Winchesters. :)

    Quotes:-
Dean: You know that guy I shot? There was a person in there.

Sam: You didn’t have a choice, Dean.
Dean: Yeah, I know, that’s not what bothers me.
    Sam: Then what does?

Dean: Killing that guy, killing Meg. I didn’t hesitate, I didn’t
even flinch. For you or Dad, the things I’m willing to do or kill, it’s
just, uh .... it scares me sometimes.

Dean: For your sake, I hope you’re lying. Cause if it’s true, I
swear to God, I will march into hell myself and I will slaughter each
and every one of you evil sons of bitches, so help me God!

  23. I just had to give The Real Ghostbuster some love here cause this episode is just special for me :) I watched it for the first time with SPN fans when I was to my very first Con in the ChicagoCon '09. Yeah I know not neutral...but I can't help it^^;

  24. So glad you are getting a breather.  Hope you enjoy it.  Glad to have you back.

  25. I think Sin City is shamefully unrecognized.  There is so much awesome in that episode.  Casey was fabulous and her talk with Dean when they were trapped was one of my favorite demon moments.  It's interesting to think of that actress playing Ruby.  The Casey character was more playful almost than Ruby so I'm not sure how much that was acting and how much was writing.  If Sin City doesn't make it into the contest, and it looks like it won't, it will be my first disappoint in this tournament.

As for Time is on my Side, I really didn't like it except for Dean and Rufus.  However, I agree that FrankenLite going for Sam's eye was thoroughly nasty and a chilling scene.  Very well done.

  26. Ha!  I totally agree.  I have use the no vote option far more in these wild cards than in any other SPN contest.

  27. I do love when Dean finally calls John about his not calling.  It was the highlight of the episode to me.  And after watching Devil's Trap, I started using "sucks out loud" in my everyday conversation.  Still do.

  29. "Swap Meat fought hard to win the worst episode ever title, but lost in the details to All Dogs Go to Heaven."  -  Bwah!  You always crack me up KatHale.  This sums up how I feel about The Third Man.  Roy has one of my favorite lines in the whole series when he says, "Inside the magic circle."  He was snarky fun.  I totally agree with you on the Meg exorcism scene.  Phenomenal acting all the way around and the most powerful scene in season 1.  Evil John scene was amazing too.  I haven't really thought of my favorite scenes in Supernatural (lots to choose from) but of the top of my head I would say that the Meg exorcism would be in my top 5, possibly number one since most of the big dramatic scenes are too sniffly for me.

  30. Everything from early-ish season 7 was better when you ignored Amy.

  31. One of my favorite parts of the Evil John scene was how the brothers, trapped and pinned to the wall, still had each other's backs.  When EJ was nailing Dean for killing his family, Sam stepped in and distracted it's attention so it would back off of Dean.  When EJ was telling Sam that Mary and Jessica did indeed die because YED wanted Sam, Dean called the attention back to himself.  It was a nice scene in how the brothers do their best to protect each other from emotional harm as well.  (Plus it kept the scene moving and not in an emotional heap for me.  Score all around!)

Also thanks.  I was getting tired of seeing the title cards so for these 4 polls we will be using a screenshot of the brothers from whatever episode gets the largest percentage of the votes.  Just trying to change it up a bit since I won't really be able to do it in the real contest since people sometimes get unhappy about playing favorites.

  32. Hey context is a valid reason for voting.  :-)  There are some episodes I like simply because they came after a string of bad episodes.  I know in my head that I wouldn't like them as much if they had been placed elsewhere but they were such a relief that I get practically giddy over them.

  33.  " It's interesting to think of that actress playing Ruby.  The Casey
character was more playful almost than Ruby so I'm not sure how much
that was acting and how much was writing."

I think that's exactly the reason that she would have made a terrific Ruby; she could do playfulness.
While she was talking with Dean, I honestly couldn't understand if she was telling the truth or not. She could really sell what she was saying. I think whatever the lines might have been she would have delivered them regardless. She was really really excellent.

As for TIOMS, we can't all like the same things, and it's a good job too. Just think how boring if everyone liked the same episode; we would get no variety!

  34.  Yeah, I agree, a great scene, just so so well acted by all three and although I'm not a great fan of John, I think he stole the scene here. He was just so evil. (shiver )

I get it, moderators have to keep an open mind, I'm glad I'm not one! :)

  35. :-)

There's nothing weirder than being in a SPN convention hotel with SPN fans for the first time while watching a SPN Con episode xD

  36. Yep,the "Inside the magic circle." is a huge favorite!
You haven't thought about favorite scenes, really?Very easy...Which scenes are you re-watching on YouTube on a somewhat regular basis?!  ; )
You are right though, there are many brilliant scenes! But it's an idea for next year's summer hallatus...!It would be pretty cool! So,that's an idea for next year,I'm sure there will be more in the next months and then if you're not sick of us by the end of season 8,you can choose!

  37. I actually don't watch any SPN clips on YouTube.  I do watch a lot of fan vids though.  I think the best scene idea is a great one to do for the hellatus between season 8 and 9.  Will have to ponder how to do the nominating though,

  38. Ha!  That really is meta.

  39. Evil John is by far my favorite.  I think he should have been possessed more often.

  40. So very true.  There would be no point in having comments if everyone felt the same way.  One of the things I like best about SPN, and sometimes a frustrating thing, is that everyone comes to the show at a different angle and is very passionate about which aspects they love the most.  It makes for interesting conversations and a lot of times, even if I don't necessarily agree, it allows me to see a scene in a different light.  Far more interesting than 100 comments of the same thing repeated with different words.

  41. Oh, yes. It may have stopped Slash Fiction from making my top 10 of all time.

  42. Other than Wendigo, same here. I can't decide between Road Kill and Wendigo.

  43. Slash Fiction, an almost perfect episode marred by the last 3 minutes.  The Amy subplot  is unforgivable for those 3 minutes alone.

  44. Out of these, only Lazarus Rising stands a chance against Are You There God... for me. The others are good, but not great.

  45. -The Real Ghostbusters: because I really didn't like Metamorphosis (except for the first ten minutes)
-Roadkill: because I'm gullible and found the twist at the end incredible!
-No Exit: because I (strangely to some) actually loved Jo and she was great in the episode. It was also very creepy, which I like!
-Sin City: because I think it was actually my favourite episode of Season Three... it had laughs, it had Sam doing his awkward investigation, it had Ruby (who actually could act and was badass), it had Bobby, it had Casey (awesome, and hot, demon) and it has HUGE significance to the plot (reveal about the name Azazel and, of course, Lucifer). overall I just loved it!
-I Believe the Children Are Our Future: because both episodes suck and I skip both when rewatching the show, but this one at least has relevance to the story and the kid was kinda cool. Although Houses of the Holy DID have some amazing lines...
-Shut Up Dr. Phil: I liked it. I laughed. I enjoyed seeing awesome guest stars. I enjoyed watching the brothers. Overall, just a fun episode. TIOMS just didn't serve as a proper lead-in into the finale, and although I like did like the MOTW and I was glad to see the cool end to Bella's storyline.

  46. Hehehe...I try to be as constructive in my "bashing" as I can, because I don't like being a "hater". There were things I liked in Shut Up, Dr. Phil, but 96% of it was no fun to watch. I think by this episode I was getting frustrated that the season wasn't progressing in a fun or enjoyable manner! It was hard to like anything about many of these early-mid season episodes.

  47. You could do a "fill in the blank" nomination process similar to the quotes, and possibly even ask people to give a timestamp (if they have one) for the scene they are nominating so if people describe them slightly differently it'd still be fairly simple to accumulate the similar/same nominations? I dunno...and limit scenes to 1-3 per episode? I love this idea though. :) I'd definitely play.
